Adorable ^_^
Love the ending esp, where you have to take out the envelope to see the surprise <3 -
I LOVED THIS BOOK! The poster at the end changes up the look at a normal book, and it is a super cute thing for kids. The pictures are cute and it would be great for little ones just learning how to count. Love it!

This is a book about a penguin, Pipkin, who goes on a journey to find how big is a million. This book aids a child's understanding of numbers and through the use of illustrations this also allows children to count the objects eg ten fish - children can visualise the number in the text.
All of the illustrations in the book fill the whole double spread making the reader feel included on this journey. The colours used are mostly cold colours which fit the theme however some warm colurs are used in Pipkins home portraying the warmth, safety and comfort of his home.
Along the way Pipkin meets a seal pup who he makes friends with. In one of the pictures you as the reader are looking down on Pipkin and the seal pup, who are both illustrated as the same size portraying equal status and power. Pipkin and the seal pup are both looking directly to the reader which is effective as continues to make the reader feel included in this journey. As well as this all over the double spread are snowflakes so you as the reader feel as if you are in the sky amongst these snowflakes which I think is a very effective feature. -

This book is a realy good visual for when you teach children the base ten syste. Ot shows kids really how big each digit is, one's, ten's, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousand's, hundred-thousand's, and million's. it also helps that it has a giant foldable poster inside. -
OMG seriously how adorable is this children’s book!!!!!!

This delightful book has it all!!
The story is adorable following the cutest penguin to finding out how big is a million. There is even a wonderful poster that can be hung above a bed so the reader can always see how big a million is!!
Perfect in every way!! -
A really sweet book asking life's big questions - How big is a million? This book is fantastic at representing the relative size of numbers. Rather than being represented in charts or numbers we go on a journey with pipkin to discover that there are ten fish and a hundred penguins all huddled together. But if that's a hundred... then how big is a million?
-
This book helps us see concepts like one, ten, a hundred, a thousand, a million.
Talking points? If you were writing your own number book that illustrated concepts of one, ten, a hundred, a thousand, a million what pictures would you include? -
Super cute book - gives a great perspective on how big that number truly is, especially when showcased against ten fish, one hundred penguins and a thousand snowflakes.
Love the giant poster. I show that off to my students and it's always met with a 'oh wow'. -

Pipkin, the penguin, is always asking big questions. He sets off on a journey to find out how big is a million. A poster in the back shows the reader just how big a million is.

I LOVED THAT BOOK, ME AND MY TWO KIDS. PIPKIN IS EXACTLY AS A LITTLE CHILD WITH GREAT QUESTIONS. AS YOU OPEN THE LAST PAGE THE SURPRISE IS MAGICAL AND SO EXCITING!
-
With a son who is a lover of numbers and math, this book was wonderful in capturing numbers and the vast expanse of what a million looks like. My son adores the pull out poster.
-
My children are four, six, seven and nine years old. They enjoyed this book. The penguins illustrated are adorable, and the poster at the end brings 1 million to life.
-
This book really helps children conceptualize the size of numbers from 10-1,000,000. It provides visuals so they can actually see what those impossibly big numbers look like.
-
Contemporary realistic; K-2; Overall this book is great for students who are just learning numbers! I read this to a Kindergartener and she loved thinking about "really big" numbers. I especially loved the poster of a million stars. Her eyes lit up to see a number bigger than she could even imagine!

Kids love to ask questions constantly. It is easy to ignore these questions but curiosity usually wins out. In this book, the little penguin is full of questions but his biggest is "how big is a million?" Which of course, leads the reader to the title of the book. His momma penguin allows him to explore the answer instead of giving him the answer. I liked that!
Along the way he discovers other things around his world and bigger numbers as he goes. He even finds an unlikely friend who is as curious as he. Eventually, he makes his way back home to discover his answer. Of course I will not divulge what that is but I found it to be simply perfect. I will say though that apparently, there are exactly 1 million but I did not count them. *wink*
This is a cute book to help children learn larger numbers and to discover things for themselves.
The Illustrators pictures were good but I felt did not necessarily add to the book. That could have been intentional though, as this was not the premise of the book to begin with.
4 stars.
This book can be found with the Scholastic books collections.

How big is a million? By Anna Milbourne and Serena Riglietti
This is a lovely book about a penguin called Pipkin who is on a mission to find out ‘how big is a million?’ He finds out how much ten is and realises it is a big number through to a thousand. He meets a seal pup along the way and finds it disappointing when he returns home to his mother to ay he could not find one million.
It starts to snow and his mother takes him outside to show him a million which is a million stars and it finishes by his mother telling him ‘you can make a wish on every single one.’
What is so endearing about this book is that it gives children a wider understanding of exactly how big one million is in the form of a star poster. It helps children to see that ten is big but nowhere near as big as one million. It aids children to realise the magnitudes involved to help children understand the concept of large numbers. The numbers are incorporated in the story with ten fish, one hundred penguins, one thousand snowflakes and one million stars. The illustrations are lovely and one of those that children will treasure purely just to see how big one million really is. -
How Big is a Million is a cute book with beautiful illustrations about a little penguin named Pipkin who likes to ask big questions. Pipkin wants to know "how big is a million?" Along his journey to find the answer he comes upon the 10 fish his mother had caught and thought that seemed like a lot but still couldn't imagine what a million would be like. He continues on and sees 100 penguins huddled in a group to stay warm. There sure are a lot of them, but still not a million. He meets a friend and they journey on to see 1,000 snowflakes which is still a lot but not a million. Sadly he trudges home thinking he will never know what a million looks like when his mother points out what was there all along- a million stars in the sky! What I really love about this book besides the adorable illustrations is that at the end of the book there is a GIANT poster you open up and it has exactly 1 million stars on it. What a great visual! Even an adult like me can appreciate how much a million is when you can see it with your very own eyes! for ages 3 and up
