Almost every character irritates me and yet I can’t seem to stop reading these. Carlotta can’t seem to make up her mind about anything. Just when you think she’s going to work some things out her identity is stolen. And for some unknown reason this woman thinks Carlotta’s life is worth taking over. Its no wonder she jumped off a bridge.
And the men in this book? So many idiots! There’s Jack who does the worst ‘next morning’ mistake speech ever. He tried to convince her the romance was a bad idea? Yeah, right! That’s why he fought Carlotta off while rolling around on the floor? *sarcasm*
Such a huge jerk, and yet she still seems to like him. Idiot girl! Then there is the ex. He dumped her years ago when she needed him, but suddenly -poof- he wants her back? And, Ladies and Gentlemen. Drum roll please 🥁 She is still interested in him and almost considers marrying him. 🤦‍♀️
Then there is her brother! He needs to wake up desperately! He’s messing his life up and taking her along for the ride.
As for Cooper? He’s a good guy, but he lays so much guilt on her. She may never be together enough to appreciate him.
Then there’s the women. Geesh! Hannah, who usually only sleeps with married men, but is willing to make an exception for Cooper. Liz the lawyer who gives lawyers a bad name. And most of the rest of the female population in this book, who are all generally back stabbers.
But, like I said, I can’t seem to stop reading these books! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not sure why. Maybe I’m invested in finding out how far Carlotta will go before she self destructs, or relocates to an insane asylum.

2.25 Stars for 2 Bodies for the Price of 1: Body Movers, Book 2 (audiobook) by Stephanie Bond read by Maureen Jones.

I kind of liked the first book in the series but this one just didn’t work for me. Everything about the book seemed a little off. Including the narration, where the narrator repeatedly mispronounced a word. I think I’m done with the series.

This is a series I still haven't determined if I like or not. It's definitely a light fluffy read, and somewhat along the lines of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. However, I don't think it's quite as entertaining. In fact I spent at least 80% of this book waiting for the action. Sure things happen, but nothing seems to really come of it, it's mostly story setup. And when it takes that long to build up a story my hopes for a good ending just aren't there. The first story I could really see potential for the series. However after this second installment, my hopes are a bit dashed. The characters were very flat, and didn't seem all that bright. But the fact that the first book really gave them their dimension helped keep me reading through this one.

I suppose I will likely continue on, with the hopes that the third book is an improvement. Now that Carlotta's actually a body mover (you would think that if it's The Body Mover's series, she would have been one from book one, or at least by the beginning of book 2). I'm fairly certain I'll be taking a break from the series for a bit however.

    DNF 1/2 way through.

I liked this book better than the first, but am still annoyed by some things. First off, Wesley, he just keeps making one stupid move after another. I realize he is a kid, but he is supposed to have a genius IQ, too bad he doesn’t use it. The second thing that bothers me is the way that Carlotta changes her mind about all the men flitting about her. It seems like if she is with one of them, that is the one that she has decided is right for her, but changes her mind once another enters her presence.

As for the mystery, I was mad to find out who the bad guy was, just one more betrayal in a long line of them.

I do look forward to reading more in this series. I want to find out more about E and her boyfriend, the Wesley’s lawyer, I have a bad feeling there, and finally who will win out in the man department for Carlotta.

    3 Stars

I enjoyed the first book and looked forward to continuing the series. This one followed a similar path in regards to the MC's predicaments and mystery, but where I was intrigued by the romantic angles and character escapades in the first book, I started to get frustrated in this one. If book after book continues with the same romance quadrangle, poor decisions, and weird plot situations, they'll get old quickly. I'm hoping for some variety in those areas and an uptick in humor. I'll try one more and see how it goes.

This book starts exactly at the moment the first, Body Movers, leaves off with a phone call from her errant, bail-jumping father. Carlotta drops the phone and through a series of unfortunate incidents is unable to take the call. Her life becomes more complicated as her identity is stolen and her double winds up dead.

Her brother is still in a lot of trouble with loan sharks and his probation. Three men are pursuing Carlotta for romance but with her identity stolen, her parents on the lam, her disingenous brother constantly making mistakes, she barely has time to think let alone fall in love.

This series is light, clever, witty, and engaging with likeable fun and funny characters and interesting story lines. The endings are not predictable. I look forward to reading the others in the series. I like Carlotta and her brother and no wonder she has trouble choosing among the men, though I do have my favorite.

Wise cracking chick lit meets light hearted mystery!

The main character Carlotta Wren has a lot going on with fugitive parents who having been missing for 8 years. She has a brother who is always getting in trouble and believes his parents are innocent. Three sexy men that want to be part of her life and a lady that looks like her who stole her identity. Fun and sassy book to read.

Even better than the first. Loved it!

So I was super negative about the last book and I still stand by that but I’m running out of books in the romance Package so I moved to the second book.... it was better.. still not good but better

Second in the Body Movers series, this is a speed read for a time when there's absolutely nothing else to read.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3, and I'll only touch book 3 if I'm desperate.

I'm still trying to decide if I love this series or not. There are things about the books I don't like but so far, the positives have out-weighed the negatives. I've ordered the next four in the series so I should have an answer to that question soon enough.

In this the second in the series, Carlotta is the victim of identity theft, but after the person who stole her identity winds up dead she finds herself living in a very cramped townhouse with the Detective she hates when she isn't lusting after him.

The other men in her life are none too happy about her sleeping arrangements, and she is none too happy about the Detectives wandering ways.

I think the main problem I have with this book is the sexual relationships are just a little sick. Without giving any of the names...Male1 sleeps with Female1 and also Female2. Male2 sleeps with Female2 while pretending Female2 is Female3. Female2 has also slept with Male3 who happens to be Male2's father. I'm as open minded as the next person but to me it was getting just a little odd.

I have this as a cozy mystery, but since the "cozy" means no sex, that label does not really apply. Romantic Suspense is too heavy for this series. So, I guess this is a cozy mystery w/sex. If you have not read book 1, stop and do so before you continue. These books build on each other, when one ends the other picks up only days later. In fact, it would probably be best read as a continuous read, if possible.

Brother and sister, Carlotta and Wesley were abandoned 10 years ago by parents on the run from the law. In this 2nd book of the series, their dad makes contact, Carlotta's identity is stolen, she has two near death experiences, Wesley's gambling problems continue, and Carlotta finally gets laid. I did not see the ending coming in this one. Bond has a way of making the bad guy not obvious at all. The series is good, not as good as Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, but passable.

This series is starting to get good. One woman and 3 men trying to get her attention and someone is trying to kill someone. . . stolen Identities, very crazy interesting read.

Fast read. Cant wait to get started on book 3.

Another book sale find meaning starting in the middle of a series again. That being said, I feel like I didn't miss anything at all the number of times past events were brought up in this novel. In fact, that is the reason it got such a low rating. It felt as if half of the novel was taken up with Carlotta complaining about how awful her life was. Now I'm not saying she wasn't dealt a horrible deck of cards with her parents running off, her nineteen year old brother constantly doing things that were not legal, and her debt through the roof, but I did not need to reminded every other paragraph, especially since this was written in third person. The actual mystery didn't really show up until about halfway through the novel and the conclusion was rather anticlimactic. This novel was more of a romance with a mystery thrown in than a mystery with romantic elements. Now don't get me wrong, I love romance in my mysteries, as my reading list can attest to, but I honestly couldn't figure out why these three men were so into Carlotta and not at all upset that the other two had obvious intentions. I can see an argument for Detective Terry as he was stuck with her 24/7 most of this novel, and her and Peter Ashford had been engaged previously, but Coop really made no sense even though he was probably my favorite. Just because you find a woman attractive doesn't mean that you would put up with two other men and all the craziness of her life. Maybe it is just because I didn't read the first novel, but it was hard for me to suspend my disbelief for a lot of this novel.

Don't even get my started on the Wesley sections. While nineteen year olds are not known for making the best decisions, especially nineteen year old males, most of the novel I just wanted to smack him. I did not find anything likable or endearing about his behavior.

This is not a series I will probably search out in the future.

This is the 2nd of a mystery series about Carlotta Wren. The story picks up from the end of the first book. The story is cute & light.

At 18 years old, Carlotta had to raise her younger brother (Wesley) after their parents (Randolph & Valerie Wren) skipped town to avoid investment fraud charged. Carlotta is still working at Neiman’s, and she experiences identity theft. Out of the blue she gets a call from her father after not hearing from him except for a postcard in the 10 years it’s been. Atlanta DA (Kelvin Lucas) is still hunting their parents and pressures Carlotta to attempt to lure her parents back with a fake funeral when a woman with Carlotta’s car & ID apparently kills herself. Carlotta also gets suspended from her job at Neiman’s and continues to have financial problems.

3 men are interested in getting involved with Carlotta. There's Detective Jack Terry who also wants info that Carlotta's afraid to divulge. Then there's ex-fiancé Peter Ashford whose wife was killed in the 1st book, and who also gets a call from her father. Peter Ashford now is sorry that he gave into pressure from his parents when Carlotta's parents disappeared, and broke off the engagement. Wesley’s boss (Cooper) who has a business moving bodies to the morgue and works for his uncle’s funeral home also wants to get involved with Carlotta. Carlotta’s best friend Hannah appears in this story as well, and she’s still Goth.

It’s incredible that Carlotta and Wesley can make so many bad decisions. This story is not quite as entertaining as the Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich) series, but the incredibility of the plot lines reminded me of that series, as well as the roller coaster pacing. Absurd, but enjoyable, I’m going to continue with this series.

Body Movers #2. Read By Cassandra Campbell. 2007. Carlotta Wren, hoping to keep the lives of her brother and herself afloat, works at an Upscale clothing merchandiser. Her parents took off, without them, when her father was indicted for fraudulent activities. She became "mom" to her younger brother; he hasn't made that task easy. He's been gambling and owes the loan sharks. Carlotta finds her life is further complicated because her identity has been stolen and now that lady is dead!. Further, the detective on the case, has been trying to snag her parents for the D.A. and this gives him a chance to set a trap for them. Or, does he really want to be close to Carlotta? Plus, she has an ex-fiance and another man, the ex coroner, hoping for her affections. As she says, I'm having a bad decade.

  • Helene Price

I admit it. I only picked this up because I was waiting for a book on my wait list at the library to be returned. I did not read Ms. Bond's first of the Body Mover series, but after reading this one, it is highly doubtful I ever will.

If you aren't looking to think, then this would be okay to read, but it honestly makes zero sense.

Parents have abandoned their children a decade earlier, and yet they are still hopeful for their return? A stolen identity ring? A brother, only 19, who is up to his neck with loan sharks? Two young people who can afford to live in a townhouse in Atlanta on a salary from Neiman Marcus? So she can conveniently figure out clues better than professional investigators? While juggling three men who adore her? Absolutely ridiculous all around.

Spend your time reading something more interesting.

Cute book. Takes place immediately following the first book in the series. The intrepid Carlotta once again finds herself the focal point of murder, mystery and intrigue! She is being threatened by a killer, someone is impersonating her and ruining her already bad credit, and there are now three men in her life that she can't make up her mind about. Yet she still finds time to hang out at her favorite cigar bar, work at her retail job at Neiman Marcus and occasionally help pick up bodies for her friends mortuary company that her troublesome 19 year old brother works at as well. It's a fun series. Light-hearted yet still full of suspense and murder. I recommend it for fans of Hiaasen, Dorsey, Corcoran & Cornwell.

  • Dekaydreader

Series is growing on me and gaining momentum - although I continually want to roll my eyes at the wide-eyed witlessness of both Wrens, I'll admit that if they didn't show the self-preservation abilities of a possum in the middle of the highway along with the bumbling luck of Inspector Clouseau, the story would be over already. I now remember why I was so incensed when Stephanie Bond took an indefinite hiatus after book 6. She hooks you into the suspense and turmoil - not to mention the romantic heat - to the point where you just can't wait to see what comes next. Fun.

  • Yvonne Fortin

This series is fun and easy to read. Carlotta still makes ridiculous choices, sometimes, that really dont make sense, but I still cant put the book down.
The love connection Carlotta has between Coop, Jack and Peter is delicious.
Wesley, however, is a despicable waste of human skin. 90% of Carlottas troubles can be laid at his feet. He is so overly selfish, irresponsible and outrageously delusional that I really marvel how she can have any loyalty to her brother at all. I desperately want her to lock him up and force a coming to Jesus intervention.

  • Ciara Adams

So, the main reason for the low rating is I hate when authors reiterate everything from the first book. I didn’t even need to read the first book because she re tells it in the second. Not a lot of faith in the reader to remember what happened. I’m about to start the third book so we shall see if the writing is better. I also was not a fan of how long she dragged out the boring personal life and the actually interesting part of plot she blows through in 10 pages… so there is a massive in-balance of plot priority.

  • Siobhan (tigress5cubs)

The jury is still out on the series. It's cute, but some of the story just doesn't lineup. The timing is off in parts of it. I like Carlotta, and I sort of like Wesley. Hannah is Okay. I don't like Peter, I can't stand Jack, and I really want to see Carlotta with Coop. Oh and I really hate to the core of my soul the parents. There is no excuse for what they did, and I swear if in the next installment they are excused/forgiven by Carlotta and Wesley, I'm out.

  • Dawn Gee

    Hooked on this series

Carlotta has three men vying for her attention and I think she's made a huge mistake with whom she decided to get intimate with. I'm a big Coop fan myself. He's awesome to me. Jack is a manwhore and is using Carlotta. Peter has his moments. Wesley has so much bad deal swirling in his life. He makes some of the poorest choices. Carlotta and Wesley have got to learn to open their eyes to what's really going on around them.

  • Miriam

While the book does feature "moving bodies" for mortuary and funeral home, this installment is really about the search for Carlotta and Wesley's missing, fugitive parents. There's little humor or comedy this time. But have faith, Stephanie Bond filled "2 Bodies..." with identity theft, loan sharks, and three men who have their eyes and hearts set on Carlotta.

It's worth a read if only to get to #3 in the series. I'll give this one a 3-1/2.
