This is theme first time I have reviewed a book that I did not finish but I feel so strongly t h at if you are going to have a cancer survivor, someone who has had a double mastectomy as your heroine at least do some research. I chose the book as I am such a survivor but thought it would be empowering to read about how someone coped with the loss of confidence caused by the surgery as well as the loss of libido. What a huge disappointment this was.
If this woman had a double mastectomy but has had reconstructive surgery she would not engage in BDSM without fully informing her partner of her operative procedures- not to do so would be reckless and stupid. If she's had implants just how does she have any sensation in the breast she let's him pinch. -
Enjoyable read.

Awaken by Ozlo and Priya Grey
Designation: Standalone.
Lacey Winters has just survived a life altering cancer diagnosis and she is focused on living life to the fullest. She has recently moved to New York and is working to become a professional photographer.
Along the way a friend invites her to go to a club….not just any club but a sex club. Once the shock wears off, she decides to go just to look around. Eventually she finds herself under the care of the ‘Master’ of the club. At the same time she is hired to take some head shots of the executives of The West Group and meets 35 year old, billionaire, Cooper West. He is quite the jerk, but once she puts him in his place he realizes that she is right and a breath of fresh air. As they begin to get closer, he shuts down her advances saying that things with him are complicated and that they shouldn’t see each other.
Will Lacey find out why Cooper pushed her away? Will she be able to accept all of him?
Wow, this was a hidden gem for sure. The cover really didn’t catch my eye, but the story inside was perfect. So this book is written in two parts. Part one is mostly Lacey’s diary so it is all from her perspective…then part two alternates between the two main characters. It actually worked very well. I thought the characters were well developed. I enjoyed reading their inner thoughts and thought it flowed very well. It was an easy read with a bit of suspense, but not so much that you were struggling to figure out what was truly going on. I never suspected what Mimi would do. A solid 4.5 stars…I actually would have enjoyed the missing scene at the end of chapter 26….it was the one spot in the book where instead of telling the events, there was a gap alluding to the events of a few hours.
My favorite quote: “Stay true to yourself. In everything you do. In your career, your family, your love. Stay true. In every step you take, make sure it’s the right step for you.” – Joanna Hunt

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. -
I received this for a honest review from Hidden Gems. This was such an awesome book. I have never read a book from these authors before. Let me say that this was such an enjoyable read. I am truly glad to be introduced to a couple of more new authors.
Lacey Winters was this strong woman. She had been through so much. She had battled with cancer. If you know anyone that has survived this awful disease then you know how much their life and views can change and that is what happen to Lacey. After beating breast cancer and having a double mastectomy she discovered that she wanted to truly live. She did not want to waste her time in a meatless job. She no longer wanted to let life pass her by. Lacey was a fighter and was going to live her dream which was a photographer.
I just loved the character Lacey and I think one of the reasons was because of her strength. I also loved her friend Penelope. Penelope was this free spirit. She knew Lacey had some problems in the sexual department. Lacey had lost her sexual desire and Penelope was going to help Lacey truly find herself by taking her to a sex club. This was a life changer for Lacey.
Cooper West was this sexy handsome billionaire who was CEO of West Group. Cooper was damaged. He had this wall built up due to a painful pass. He wanted nothing or no one to get close to him. Things changed when he met Lacey. Lacey was this whirl wind that came in and turned his life upside down.
I think that is all I am going to give you on the story. I can tell you that Cooper and Lacey have a very complicated relationship. Both have a lesson to learn in this book. This book does have some light BDSM but not enough to make one uncomfortable that is not into that sort of read. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and will have to check out more books from these two authors. -
It was wonderful to read about a remarkable and courageous woman who battled breast cancer and made it her b*tch. That's exactly what we got with Lacey. She went through a double mastectomy and cancer treatment and still came out swinging. I LOVED that after her fight she reaffirmed her dedication and appreciation for the one life we have to live. She took chances when before she was too afraid of the risks. After 3 years of dealing with an invisible libido, Cooper awakens her body's sexuality and things got pretty hot. Cooper's dealing with his grief over his girlfriend's passing and so has made himself emotionally unavailable. I really liked that when enough was enough, Lacey decided to let him go, especially when she realized what she wants most out of life. A family.
I'm stunned by the fact that when Coop was finally ready for a relationship with Lacey, the book ended abruptly. What the heck happened before that epilogue (which was only half a page long)??? She tells him he can have a second chance, jokes that it's conditional on having sex on his jet, then thats it. No relationship. No more story. Just a cheap rendition of an epilogue. This caused a huge disconnect for me, which is a shame because up until then, I liked the story. Unfortunately, the great love that was being marketed to me was not believable and soured my feelings on the entire book.
Side note: when Coop goes to Julia's grave we find out she died March 6, 2005. However, there's a big deal about it being a beautiful FALL day and that her parents must have been by earlier and he was glad he missed them. However, the significance of this FALL day was never explained. Everyone in his life knew what this FALL day signified, but it wasn't the date of her birth (which was February 9, 1983) or the date of her death. So I'm confused. Would love for someone to please enlighten me. Thanks! -
Lacey is a Cancer survivor, she has beat the odds, and now she wants to follow her dream to herself after she got the news of her Cancer and that was if she recovered she wanted to follow her dreams and do what made her happy in her life, that being photography. Cooper is the owner of the first job she gets as a professional photographer, yet he isnt very nice and is a jerk to Lacey. Cooper isnt used to people standing up to him and telling him like it is.
What I enjoyed most about Awaken is watching Lacey go from this shy woman who doesnt know what she wants at first to her opening up to new ideas and things. Going after what she really wants even if she might get fired from her job to go for what she is good at and the possibility of upping her photography career. Cooper helped her to open up to see she can do so much in her life, she just has to put herself out there and do it.
This book is fantastic, an easy fast read. This book had me hooked from page one. If you enjoy books that have light BDSM and a woman who is so new at it all at first that she hangs back to just watch, to then join in, sexual chemistry is great between Cooper and Lacey that turns into more, A love story, with some sad moments mixed in, A woman who goes after her dreams cause she knows how precious and short life can be. If you enjoy stories like this, then Awaken is a must! -
Wow! My first book by Ozla & Priya Grey and this husband and wife duo definitely didn't disappoint! Awaken was a sensual story that appealed to all the senses. Disclaimer though, it's a story that you have to go into with an open mind being that it involves slight BDSM. Lacey went for what she wanted and didn't settle for anything less than she deserved and I loved that about her character! She was strong and resilient! Cooper was a hot alpha male who was letting his past hold him back. However, one night with Lacey changed everything he thought he knew and wanted. Awaken was a read that truly captured my attention and didn't let go until the last page. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Gifted an ARC for an honest review……….
What a sweet, uplifting story of the power of living life to the fullest every single day. Lacey overcame, and is still fighting for her life everyday. Living her dreams because she understands she may not get a second chance. Cooper is afraid to let himself live a full life and hides from it. When they come together, they breakdown each other barriers. I loved the pace of the story, the characters were well developed, and very relatable. Looking forward to reading more from this dynamic duo!! -
Awaken she did!
Very captivating storyline kept me engaged and wanting more. Every woman should break free and be who she wants- follow those dreams and live life to the fullest and that exactly what she did! -
