The Deadlands:
A wasteland of burning sun and shifting sands that stretches for more than a thousand miles from the foot of the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi River. The once vibrant Great Plains of the central United States is a bleak and barren desert, a blasted landscape filled with sad reminders of what has been lost.
Rayn and Luk must brave the perils of this arid land of fierce beasts, savage sandstorms, and hidden dangers if they're going to reach the Beastlands beyond. They will encounter new enemies, and discover precious new allies.
Rayn's suspicions about the results of Luk's Sojourn Lottery continues to grow, but she must put those doubts aside if they have any chance of surviving what's coming. The Deadlands will push them to their breaking points while testing the strength of their bond.
Their only goal: Survival.

I thought nothing could top the first book...I was wrong. This book is amazingly written. This is the 2nd book in the series, and within the first few pages, the Author already has you pretty much begging for what is written to be unwritten because it's just too sad. You want to scream, cry, and a myriad of other emotional responses. You hope that that is the worst experience Rayn and Luk will have to go through that you will read in the book, alas, that will not be so. So much more happens that you have to wonder how they're not sitting in a dark corner somewhere rocking back and forth begging for death to take them swiftly, but they forge on because they must. So much more sadness, so profoundly written that you FEEL it along with the characters in the story. So much anger that you can feel the hot embers of wrath burning within you just as it burns within Rayn and Luk. And the hollow emptiness that sometimes threatens to overtake them, yet they cling to the remnants of hope of reaching some semblance of civilization and safety. I cannot begin to describe in the right words how amazingly written this series is, but I am about to start the 3rd in the series, and I STRONGLY recommend that any and all get your hands on this series and give it a try. You will NOT be disappointed!!

Even though I have not read the first book in the series I was able to jump right into the story and enjoy it.While I did enjoy this book, the romance between the main characters was overdone for my tastes. It was an interesting book and I would reccomend it to anyone who enjoys the YA post apocalyptic genre.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Such a good book, no, series. Such a good series.
I read the first of these books and thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm glad to note that the standard hasn't fallen any with book two.
Now, there were a few glaring mistakes which I'd like to address. Firstly is the use of the phrase, 'All of the sudden...[sic]'. Now the common use of that phrase is 'all of a sudden', you'd have to go back to the 16th century for 'all of the sudden' to be correct. But that's not the only thing that bothers me about this phrase, I was once told if you're writing something happening quickly 'all of a sudden' takes too long, just replace it with 'suddenly' to keep the plot moving quicker.
Next would be on page 87 where there's a moment of repetition that really breaks the moment, and finally - and perhaps the worst mistake - is on page 283, where out heroine gets confused about how someone found out her name when they use it in conversation. The problem is, nobody actually says her name at all. There's a whole conversation about something that didn't happen. Weird.
There are a couple more spelling/grammar mistakes throughout, but nothing that most books don't have anyway.
I know I've said some bad points, but honestly the story makes up for all of that. On the whole the book is well written, with great characters, fantastic action scenes, and a wonderful sense of drive. I loved it all so much!
If you've enjoyed books like 'The Hunger Games', or 'Divergent', then this series is for you. It has a strong female lead that's so popular these days, and manages to do it without her being impossibly annoying. The romance element is worked in beautifully, and I found the desert trek to be highly believable in its difficulty.
There are several elements in the book that are clearly well researched - mainly the 'car' - and although this helped to set the scene, I did find it a little tech heavy in places. Still, it all works well.
I loved this book. I think you will too, the only thing I'd recommend is that you read the first in the series before embarking on this one.
I can't wait for the third installment of this adventure! -
First, I have to state that I read an unedited version of this book months and months ago, so it's not fresh in my mind.
I. Loved. This. Book!
I really enjoyed the first book, Sojourn: The Wildlands, but in book 2 things get REAL. While Rayn and Luk had obstacles in Wildlands, they're nothing compared to Deadlands. There are multiple brushes with death and hardships, but working together they fight to keep going.
I expected the ending to be similar to the first book in that they make it to the end of this stretch of their journey, but oh man, I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the ending, and it was so much better!
This book is definitely grittier than The Wildlands in my opinion, the hardships a little more harsh.
I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy adventure, dystopian, and post-apocolyptic with light romance.

This is the second book in the Sojourn series. It's a dystopian series and I think that the author has a real gem here. It's very well written and sometimes difficult to put down. There are 4 books in the Sojourn series. They deal with Rayn Mirago and her boyfriend Luk and their trek from the Vegas Enclave to the Atlanta Enclave. The world, as we know it, has ended with war and disaster caused by global warming and the people left alive live in one of only a few cities in the USA. In order to keep fresh blood flowing in the veins of future citizens, children on their 17th birthday must sojourn, or travel, to another Enclave. I wondered why they traveled from Vegas northward to Denver, when the Denver Enclave no longer even exists, to go east to Atlanta. Well, the answer was that the southern part of the country was destroyed by earthquakes and floods. The Deadlands in this book was a barren land of hot sun and shifting sands in a desert that swallowed up any remaining civilization. Along the way they meet a good friend and then lose her. They are captured by a wild group who has a terrible purpose for them, and then later rescued by a great group of people. I loved the wind car they find and fix so that they can skim across the sands for many miles before the car is destroyed.
This is a great series! I will be ordering book #3!
