After reading The bear who loved me I was so excited to jump back into this series ,so when I got a chance to read this book early I was thrilled and I got into the story as soon as I could. I love it license the shift was absolutely amazing !
In this book we follow Mark and Julie and I love these two together from the very first scene together I was like that's it I need you two to go ahead and get married ,have babies and be together forever . Mark is going feral which to my understanding basically means that bear inside of him is dominating over the man. And Julie is here in Saginaw because her father is in the hospital at first you may think how do all of these things connect .However it all does connect and everything comes full circle in some really interesting ways . I really felt for Julie and Mark because over the course of this book we see them come closer and fall in love with each other but because of what is going on with Mark in a way it's really bittersweet. I was worried wondering how was this gonna work out but all on worryimg was in vain because everything worked out in the best possible way for them. If I had to describe the romance in three words they would be sexy, all-consuming and heart pounding, I was rooting for them to be together no matter what happens in the story and trust me lots of things happened in this story that I did not expect to happen ,it was just so good .We also got to learn more about the bad guys what they're doing and what their goal might be as well. I love that we got delve deeper into the shifter world, we learned so much about them in this book. With a sexy romance ,the fascinating paranormal creatures and the plot that will keep you turning the pages needing to know what will happen next Kathy Lyons creates a fantastic story with license to shift.
Licenses shift is a sexy , thrilling paranormal romance and after reading the ending of this book I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of the next book in the series, can I get it now ? .if you love all these things in your book I suggest you get a copy when it comes out October 4, 2016 . -
I am addicted to Kathy Lyons’ Grizzlies Gone Wild series! I read the first book, The Bear Who Loved Me and couldn’t wait to pick up and read License to Shift. This is a standalone read but continues a plot started in the first book.
License to Shift is the story of Mark Robertson. Mark is the best friend of Carl Carmen (clan leader and hero from The Bear Who Loved Me). For years, Mark has known that he’s dying. His DNA is made up of more bear than human. He isn’t sure when his next shift will be his last. For years, he’s been planning for his demise. He’s given up on finding true love and his mate because there isn’t anything he can offer her. A knock on his front door will change his life forever.
Julie Simon hates being in Gladwin, Michigan. She has since she was sixteen, when the other kids excluded her from fun summer activities and her crush ran away from her. Now, she’s back at the request of her father to pick up some of his shifter tale research. Her first problem is the only person who can help her is the man who crushed her teenage heart, Mark. Her second problem is that someone has stolen the research. She’s about to discover that what she thought was just fairy tales her father has been researching is very much real.
Going into reading License to Shift, I thought this was going to be a really sweet, endearing, second chance love story, but it's so much more! Just when you're happy and comfortable, the suspense kicks in and you’re taken on an incredible journey. As with the first book, this story grabs you and leaves you not wanting to put it down or have it end. There are definitely some surprises and unanswered questions. But the story is complete, with an “Oh my freaking God” moment at the end. November can’t get here soon enough for the third book, For the Bear’s Eyes Only!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!
The cover is awesome! Both beasts look beautiful!
This is the 2nd book in the series. It is for adults only due to the steamy scenes.
I’m glad that this is Mark’s story. I was wondering about him in the first book. Julie and Mark have a history where they both read too much into things that happened in their pasts. I love Julie’s character because I like to admire the characters rather than hate them. I don’t want to spoil anything, so all I will tell you is that there is plenty of action in this book, and I couldn’t put it down.
I highly recommend to anyone who loves bear shifters and especially if you already love Kathy Lyons, you will want to read this story! -
This is the first book of Kathy Lyon's that I am reading and though it is a part of a series, it is completely perfect to be read as a standalone.I hadn't read the first book- The Bear Who Loved Me, but this didn't affect my reading experience in any way.
I was hooked from the first chapter!I loved the descriptions, and the way the author managed to detail the shifters and the grizzly part of them was wonderful.I have read many bear shifter books and this one really stands out due to its writing, details and worldbuilding.
Julie has returned to Saginaw,Michigan to find her father's journals so that she can transcribe them. He's in the hospital due to health issues and she knows that he will get bored very soon.He has been researching folklore and tales especially those that concern shapeshifting. When she spent a few summers in Saginaw, when she used to have a crush on Mark. But he mostly ignored her and her attempts to befriend him.Until the one hot night that they spent together during which he abrupptly left.
Mark is very close to becoming feral and losing himself forever. He has been trying hard to find a cure but nothing has been able to help him.He even enlisted Julie's father's help to find something that might help. When Julie shows up at his door looking for her father's research he is in for a shock. He never expected the girl he desired from far to show up in town again and moreover be willing to give him another shot. But someone has stolen her father's research and is determined to hurt Julie too. There is something sinister going on Mark desperately wants to protect Julie from it.But with everyday bringing him closer to turning feral and the danger escalating what will the future hold for them?
The book had the perfect mix of action, suspense and romance in it.Both Mark and Julie were amazing characters and I couldn't help but root for them. The chemistry between them was also wonderful. The secondary cast of characters like Carl,Becca and Tonya were fascinating. They added depth and flavor to the story. We didn't get much more than a glimpse at the antagonists and I would love to know more about them. Its clear the author intends to take the mystery further into the next books. The ending was well done, but I would love to know more about the partial shifters and how the shifting affects them.I think we'll get more on that in the next book which features Alan and Tonya's story.
If you're looking for a shifter book with lots of action, romance and amazing characters you should give this one a chance. In the meantime,, I'll be reading Carl and Becca's story in The Bear Who Loved Me. ;) -
License to Shift is book two in the Grizzlies Gone Wild series. It’s a second chance love story, with suspense, intrigue, and so much more.
This is my first time reading this series and author. I didn’t fell like I was missing something. The author did a terrific job making this story stand-a-lone.
There where parts I liked, parts that were a little odd to me, but all in all it was a suspenseful and satisfying read.
Mark is on the verge of becoming his bear completely and you see this through the pages. Their is so much struggle and hope that he goes through. Then we have Julie who is only in town because of a family emergency. These two have a small past and now they may get a chance to work out what happened back then and in the process save Mark.
The way the story started was a bit slow, but once I got deeper in, things picked up and oh boy the suspense. Another thing that really frustrated me was the lack of communication. I felt they needed to talk more about what was bothering them from the past, but of course she’s not in on the secret until something bad happens and then she is told. I also got frustrated with the way Julie acted at times.
Their where several exciting and suspenseful moments and some unanswered questions, but the book is complete and delivers an eventful read. I’m curious enough to check out all the books in the Grizzlies Gone Wild series.

I have not enjoyed a shifter novel in a long while. License to Shift was great! The story was solid and kept me entertained while the writing was clear and descriptive. The way this author tells this story left me unable to put it down. This is book 2 and I think most would be OK reading it as a standalone. Reading book 1 would give the reader more insight into the mood and the previous problems that have occurred as well as the mental state of all the characters. Without book 1 I think it would still be a fantastic read, they would just not know what could possibly happen. Why take the chance! I highly recommend this to all who love paranormal romances. This one was excellent.

License to Shift is the second book in the Grizzlies Gone Wild series by Kathy Lyons, and just like with the first one I had a great time reading it.
As the son of two bear-shifters, Mark Robertson has more bear-gene than a normal bear-shifer, reason why he is a hair’s breadth away from going feral. Going feral for a he-bear means that there will one day when his bear will win the battle against his human-gene so he will stay bear forever. Mark has been fighting against this since he was 16 years old. He’s tired and ready to give in to the beast.
That’s until oh so sexy-curvy book nerd Julie Simon shows up at his door.
Julia Simon returns to Saginaw, Michigan to collect her father's research about shape-shifters just to find out the research has disappeared. And unlucky for her, the only person who can help her is her high school nemesis, “Mark the Fickle Bastard”.
Eight years after Mark Robertson broke her heart, Julie has to ask him for help. Of course she hasn't forget about him and the lust-crazed part of her brain can’t stop drooling all over him. I honestly can’t blame Julie. Big guy, all muscle, broody, and with a raw physical power?? I would be asking him on a date. LOL.
“This was his most dangerous time—when bear and man fought against each other for control. It made the animal unpredictable and the man insane.”
Mark has been attracted to Julie for years but his fear of going feral put a barrier between them. But now she is back, and his bear is telling him that she is his mate.
“Let’s fix what we broke years ago. Let’s do it right, okay?”
This time, Mark will be not only fighting a battle against his bear but one against his desire to claim her as his mate. Will Julie cave in? Will Mark find a magical cure against his curse? But most important, what will Julie think about the bear-shift thing?
All of that without the knowledge that there are some dangerous people lurking around them. Watch your backs Grizzlies, the fight against the evil pussy-cat is not over!!!!
I have to ramble on the fact that Ms. Lyon played with my emotions at the end of the book. She tricked me into believing I was getting an epilogue for Mark and Julie, but no. It broke my heart because just as with the first book, I wanted more!!!!! It ended too abruptly for my liking. So when I turned the page and read the word “Epilogue” I was over the moon just to be slap on the face right away. But the sting lasted just a few seconds because what she gave me was a sneak peak of whats coming next and dear lord, I can’t wait to read Alan’s story. My body is so ready, rawrrrrrrrrr.
License to Shift is the perfect blend of action-packed, heat, emotion and humor. Ms Lyons does a great job pulling you in with appealing characters and a beautiful story about the power of love. -

REVIEW
What a fun and fast paced story! I loved Julie’s inner thoughts as she found herself in a reality she didn’t believe, and it was fun to listen in on Mark’s human trying to control his grizzly. This is a shifter romance but it has little things that make it unique, and I appreciate that. The book had intense scenes mixed in well with humor and sexy romance. It checked off all my wants in a book and I can’t wait for the next one.

Bear it all
Book two is all about second chances. I enjoyed watching these two characters reconnect and accept their feelings for each other. The author did a fantastic job of displaying the scatteredness that was Mark’s mind by having his thoughts be more rambling and run together. And I enjoyed how Julie finally was able to embrace the way Mark saw her. The intensity from book one is carried over as the bag guys strike again. This book was an amazing read, and I am looking forward to reading all about Alan’s search for retribution. -
Liked it I can't wait for an awesome book in the series
-
The first I’ve read in this paranormal romance, it combines a second chance romance with some suspense, a mystery and plenty of sexy.
Julie is returning to Michigan on an errand, her father is ill and someone needs to gather his research on the shifters in the area and keep it safe. She’s not wholly buying in to the whole thing, and the only person who can help her find the information is Mark. The one who ignored her for a whole summer, leaving her with lingering doubts, desires and a bit of attitude.
Mark’s life is shifting, his bear threatens to take over and dominate the man he is, entirely. He’s decided that the fight isn’t worth it, and is ready to just give in. Until Julie appears. She’s the only person who he can’t forget, and perhaps he’s held some feelings since that summer too.
While a bit slow to start, the story quickly picks up pace and moves into so much more: Julie and Mark’s connection, his never-ending struggle with his bear, her lack of awareness of his nature and a somewhat stubborn refusal to just ask questions and share what’s on her mind. These two just don’t communicate well, until it’s apparent that Julie (and the information she was sent to collect) are in grave danger, and only Mark can save them.
Clever and fun, with enough angst from both Julie and Mark when conversation is called for. The twists with the bad guys and some serious reflection on past events that may hold the key to the battles Mark is having with his bear add up to an engaging read. While there are still unanswered questions, this story provided plenty of background, current action and hints to the future to stand on its own, while leading readers to the next in the series.

I can't tell you how much I'm really enjoying this series by Kathy Lyons. It's got a little mystery to it but the story is also filled with humor.
I just love these bears. Tough, fun and loving. What more could you want in your shifter bears?
I really enjoyed the first book in the series but I have to say that I LOVE License to Shift even more. From the first book I couldn't wait for Mark's story. There was just something about him in The Bear Who Loved Me. I just wanted, no needed, to know his story.
I would love to tell you why I wanted his story but I really think you should read it for yourself to find out. Believe me if you're a fan a paranormal's you'll really enjoy this series.
At times in the beginning the interaction between Mark and Julie is a little tough, of course most of that has to do with the fact that they are both hurt from when they were kids, plus Julie can't believe that there is any danger at her fathers place.
Of course Mark could explain it if only he'd tell her he was a bear shifter. Not a easy conversation to have.
Throughout the story I cheered for them. I thought they were the perfect miss-matched, match. Of course if they ever really talked (I'm repeating myself because it needs to be said) to each other they know they aren't miss-matched at all.
After you read License to shift you'll be dying for, For the Bear's Eyes Only which is out November 15th. I really believe that this series has to be my favorite of all the stories that Kathy Lyons/Jade Lee has ever written. I've always loved her paranormal's.
Be smart, read The Bear Who Loves Me first. You'll be glad you did so.

You guys, I almost don't have any words for how damn much I am loving this series, but especially this book! Mark stole my heart from the first page, I swear! After meeting him in book one, I knew I was going to fall hard for him, given the tragic story that was his life, and his immediate future. But, I had no idea exactly how much. He is just so great, you guys just have no clue! The fact that he has loved this one girl, his fated mate- even if he didn't know that's what she was at the time- since he was sixteen, it made me swoon!!
And I promise, Julie is just as great. Sometimes, you have a great hero, that sometimes gets stuck with a whiny, or just downright crappy woman- but not this time. He got lucky with Julie. Not only has she also loved Mark since they were teens, but she is willing to fight tooth and nail to save him when she hears his horrible story. Even as much as she never believed in the shifter lore that her father spent his life researching, once she finds out that the man she loves is a bear, and only has limited time left- she does a 180 and makes it her life's mission to help him, as well as save another shifter in the process.
There's also a very interesting twist to this story that wasn't in book one, which I think you are going to LOVE!! I don't want to say too much about that, except that it shows how everything really does come full circle, and the ultimate good vs. evil battle has yet to be fought.
So, if you're a PNR fan like me, I think you're gonna thoroughly enjoy this new series, and definitely this book for sure!! Book three is going to blow me out of the water I think, and is absolutely gearing up to be my favorite of the series, I can already tell. Kudos Kathy on some great shifters, and even better stories!!
5 stars!! -
ARC REVIEW
I knew as soon as Mark Robertson was introduced I would love him. In this book Mark is close to losing his humanity and shifting completely and fully into a grizzly. Julie was just suppose to pick up her father's research but what she finds changes her world completely. Someone sinister is after her father's research she can't imagine why it all just a bunch of fairy tales... until it isn't and she's face to face with a giant grizzly who use to be Mark. Now all the things that happened to her in those summer months she spent in Saginaw as a teenager start make sense, why she was excluded from everything even why Mark was hot and cold with her. So now she is in on the secret and the pack is trying to protect her from those things that keep attacking her father's cabin.
I really loved this one, even more so than the first book. Mark is protective and sexy, especially since he's walking around naked the first two chapters. Julie is perfectly curvy and sweet and Tonya and Becca easily open up to her and welcome her since she's in on the whole shifter secret and that Mark claimed her as a mate. Now Mark just has to stay human long enough to figure out why Evil Einstein and Crazy Cat Lady are after the research.
Overall, I loved it. Plain and simple it was such an entertaining read the characters and the story grab your attention and suck you into the world of the Gladwin Pack. So looking forward to Alan's story! -
Julie met Mark in the summers she would come to visit her father but they always left her out, she wasn't invited to hang out or go to parties nothing except one summer when she and Mark got together and after he ran away Julie never came back to visit. Years later Julie's back looking for her fathers notes that Mark was helping with but no one can find them. Julie is still hurt from years ago but Mark is beyond happy he never wanted her to find out he was a shifter but when her cabin is attacked and they threaten Julie, Mark shows his bear self. Julie is frightened but not terrified and when she calms down she has a lot of questions for Mark. She and Mark decided to see if they can find the answers to save Marks life but someone else wants those answers too. I really enjoy this shifter series and the connection that Julie and Mark share is special and it's been there for years.

Marie's Tempting Reads Netgalley ARC Review:
A book after my own heart! I freaking ADORED the fact that our heroine, Julie, is not only curvy, but a book nerd like myself. It made me absolutely giddy to read this story. Add the fact that this was a paranormal romance and I was in LOVE. Julie and Mark are phenomenal together! Their chemistry sizzled and the plot had me anxiously turning page after page. Add a bit of danger and a lot of hot romance and this story was a winner.
Kathy Lyons did an amazing job with License To Shift. I like her writing, I loved her characters, and the story..delightful! I am looking very much forward to the next one.
License To Shift gets a FEISTY FIVE SHOOTING STARS! -
I just read this book. It's the second book in this series and I can not believe that I missed the first one. I plan on getting my fingers on it fast. I have come to love shifter stories. They are unique and I feel that each author puts their own unique spin on them.
Mark and Julie's story was spectacular. I think Julie has a wonderful sense calm about her to take everything in and not freak. But in all I loved this book. Mark takes so much on his shoulders and Julie brings him peace. Plus this book is hot!! -

A fast paced, sexy fun story that moves the larger Grizzlies Gone Wild plot forward, a lot! -
Loved this one all the way through.
-
Lyons continues the shifters with Mark the about to be feral bear who will have to be killed by his best friend, Carl from book 1. In comes Julie, his high school crush. His bear calls her mate and they have amazing sex right before they're attacked. Julie freaks out and then discovers she doesn't mind he's a bear. Lyons has created a world within our world which is intriguing. This book is a slow start. There are some amazing scenes and the sex is fabulous. The story line follows the same formula as the first book to some extent as I expected certain scenes in a certain order. However, there's enough variance to keep it interesting.
-
No need to kick the emotional thermometer because it is in high gear!
I really enjoyed the first story in this series and this one hit the ball out of the park! Mark was a force to be reckoned with as his strength and intelligence was matched only by the fierce and feral existence of his bear. Yeah, shifters are real and they are among us… Little did Julie know that the boy of her dreams was going to become the man of the hour as she is attacked at her father’s cabin. Something is definitely out of sync as the creatures that went after her didn’t seem a surprise to anyone but her…
I wanted someone special for Mark, the man who was on the edge of losing his humanity, and his life. If the love of a good woman could save him than he met his match in Julie who embraced all sides of him, and even his family, as she fights for herself and the man she loves. She is smart and has to prove it over and over as they both try to solve the mystery that is threatening both their families. They have history together and they have to reconcile more than the present to get to their happily ever after.
It was fast, it was emotional and oh so sexy. This story had it all and quickly became my favourite (so far) in this series all about humanity, family and love. It’s just a bit furrier than most…. -
This is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed the story between Mark and Julie. The story was well written with good chemistry between the characters. Each author has their own rules for their shifter world and this world was easily visualized. The book has hot scenes, intrigue, love, a happily ever after and in the epilogue, a tease for the next book.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery, I voluntarily post this review, this is my honest review. -
Superb writing and an interesting storyline make this a great book. Never thought I'd be much interested in bear shifters but after reading this book, I went right away and downloaded the next. I'm hooked! The author sucks you right into the story and keeps you there until the very last word. I cannot wait to read book two in the series.

3M ebook from NYPL
Another quick read - a little bit more history this time, and and indication of the wider world of shifters that the Michigan bears inhabit. Some interesting twists on the usual lore, with the bears being drawn back to a historical residence/area of land. Bit of a cliffhanger leading into the third book. -
I really enjoyed this book. This is the second book in the series and I can't wait to read more. Once I started the book, it was hard to put down. It kept me entertained throughout. I will definitely ready more by this author.I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
