You know that feeling when you read something so good that you can't find the words to describe it? Well, I just found out that it's the same thing when you read something awful.
Good part? Why 1.5 and not 1 star? The idea was pretty good, I loved the fact that there's a supernatural who, if killing someone, can steal their powers. It could have been soo so interesting! But yeah... At least the book was pretty short.
There are some minor mistakes (like, at one point, they started their lives 14 years ago, then they say 15, at one point something like 12). But I won't even judge those.
Gah, I felt that the author wrote this for 7-year-olds! And they might be too old already... I mean, it's not only that the book had no depth, but the characters were so flat! And all of them were exactly the same! No personality, no change, no chemistry, nothing!
And again, this wasn't the biggest problem. The worst part of this book was that it didn't make sense so many times! For example... There's a teleportation thingie, just makes you go puff and you appear wherever you want to. But see, it's very expensive. But again, one of the characters is really really rich (private plane, helicopter, yacht kind of rich). Yet he doesn't buy the teleport thingies, something that could save their lives. Oh, and the main character can make them as well! But why bother learning how to do that, right? It's not like they could help or anything...
I won't even talk about the lack of world builder.
All in all, it was a read that made no sense and left me feeling nothing more than annoyed.

I've been a fan of this authors Mythean Arcana series so spotting this new urban fantasy departure had me sitting up and taking notice. It's fair to say it's not as romance based as previous books by the author but actually that makes no difference at all because it's all about the storytelling and the characters that are introduced.
Three young girls wake up alone and with no memory of how they came to the place they find themselves . A strong feeling of impending danger has them fuelled by the need to run but these girls are not ordinary by any means and they quickly realise they have powers that they really need to hide from others. Fast forward ten years or so and Cass, Nix and Del run a store that deals in finding and selling magical artefacts . They live hidden from humans but they also pretend to be what they are not ( well not exactly ) as the three are rare FireSouls with the ability to steal powers and if discovered they would be imprisoned. Now Cass might pretend to be a Mirror Mage but when the most powerful of all shifters approaches her to help him trace a stroll detailing all magical creatures she quickly realises that it will out her and her 'sisters'! Aiden is confused by Cass and senses she possesses strong magic but why does she refuse to use it? What follows is a hunt that takes Cass and Aiden on a perilous expedition but can Cass truly hide what she is from such a powerful magic user as Aiden? Plus it's soon clear that Aiden is not the only one after the fabled scroll and their adversary will stop at nothing!
What can I say about this book? I loved the world building but was left with questions which hopefully will be answered as more books are added to the series. Cass is a tough nut to crack with dragon blood and yet not perfect which made her feel more likeable. Her greatest weakness of course is her unfailing loyalty to Nix and Del but her abhorrence and fear of her own abilities is something she needs to tackle. Aiden is the possible love interest but thankfully it's not instant, job done, we are a couple and it feels more realistic as this pair still have a long way to go before they fully trust each other. I really enjoyed the plot and the action scenes felt spooky to me ( phantoms anyone?) and although the three 'sisters' do rally around each other I would have preferred to see more interaction between them. No this book focuses primarily on Cass and her adventures with Aiden who at times seemed too good to be true but it's certainly wetted my appetite for more!
I love the cover and feel this book would suit those looking for urban fantasy without too much heat. All in all a very good start to what could surely be another fabulous series.

Ancient Magic is book one in the Dragon's Gift: The Huntress series by Linsey Hall. This is my first taste of Ms. Hall and I enjoyed! Ancient Magic was a good introduction to the world and characters.
We are treated to a lot of different magic, shifters, creatures, and mixes. Cass, Nix and Del are rare FireSouls with the ability to steal powers and if discovered they would be imprisoned. They have been hiding from something or someone and the world for 10 years now, but that’s about to change.
Cass is our lead in Ancient Magic. She’s been pretending to be a Mirror Mage, but hiding is about to get even more difficult when Aiden the most powerful shifter approachers her and ask her to find a scroll that details all magical creatures. She doesn’t want to do it, but this scroll is a danger to her and her sisters. Cass is tough, but she fears her powers. She is going to need to learn about her magic and fight to protect those she cares about.
Aiden is powerful, more powerful then we are let to believe. Cass intrigues him. He can senses she posses magic, but doesn’t understand why she doesn’t use it.
The author takes use on an adventure that puts Cass and Aiden in precious situations. We travel all over on this hunt and learn that Aiden isn’t the only one searching for the scroll, something evil and from the sisters past is after it too.
The world building was nice, but I had questions and hopeful they will be answered as the series progress. The plot and action kept me intrigued and I’m curious as to what happens and how Cass will fair. As for the sisters; Nix and Del, we don’t get to see or interact a lot with them so, I’m not sure what their roles will be.
Ancient Magic was a delight to read. Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy. I’m looking forward to continuing.

The magical system is the only cool thing about this book (and I suspect of the whole series).
The writing is monotone, the characters are a caricature of the main stereotypes of the genre, the plot is borderline boring, the world building is too shallow to be engaging, the romance is too insta-lusty and angsty.
My major complain has to do with how much the author drops the word deirfiúr throughout the book (because the three chicks woke up in a meadow in Ireland so of course they must be Irish! But please, let’s never address their accents or make them speak actual Irish! Or how about spending a few minutes to do some googling and learn that “deirfiúr” means “sister” and “deirfiúracha” is the appropriate term for “sisters” so insults like this don’t happen?

Linsey Hall’s The Mythean Arcana is one of my favorite paranormal romance series out there. The characters and world she has created always send me down the rabbit hole for some much needed time away from real life issues. So, when she announced that she was starting up a new urban fantasy series I knew I had to get my greedy little hands on it and after finishing it I can tell you that she has what promises to be another great series on her hands!
Cass is the narrator of this adventure and is a likeable heroine. We only get to know so much about her because her memories only go back so far, but know that she’s dedicated to keeping herself and her sisters safe and despite her occupation has a solid moral code when dealing with how she procures the objects she hunts. She isn’t prone to hysterics, at least not outwardly, and has a good head on her shoulders. Aiden I liked because while he has an immense amount of power at his disposal he doesn’t abuse it. He pushes, but isn’t a bully about it. Instead he tends to use logic to get his way and seems to have an unending reserve of patience. There is an attraction between Cass and Aiden and though it’s only in it’s early infancy in the book, it could turn into a fun journey to watch.
The one issue I did have was with Cass and her sisters, Nix and Del, and the fact that I wished we’d gotten more time with them. We get enough to know why they trust each other and would do anything to keep the other safe, but I wish we’d gone deeper and gotten a glimpse of them hanging out and really seeing their personalities and quirks. So, I’m crossing my toes that as the series progresses we’ll get more time with the sisters.
From the first page you are thrust unapologetically into this new world and then you’re off and running and the pacing doesn’t let up much until the very end. The world is immense and filled with interesting characters. The various plot twists and turns for both the overall series storyline and the storyline that is the focus of this book were well thought out and executed. The conclusion of the book is best described as ‘winning the battle, but not the war’ meaning it was satisfying while making me want more at the same time, and I definitely want more!

Cass and her sisters, Nix and Del, were firesouls. What they were had to remain a secret or they’d be thrown in jail because they had the ability to steal other people’s magic if they killed them. They didn’t want to hurt anybody. They just wanted to live their lives in peace. Aiden, the most powerful shifter alive, asked Cass for her help to find an object that could put her life in danger if in the wrong hands, so she couldn’t refuse the job.
I didn’t get attached to the characters. I liked them, but they just didn’t stand out. I wish Cass had more page time with her sisters to really get a feel of how they interacted. Their relationship was mostly explained rather than being shown what it was like. Nix and Del didn’t get enough page to to gauge what their personalities were like. Cass was loyal and tough. She did unnecessarily put herself in danger often. It was understandable that she didn’t want to use her magic, but it wasn’t smart to avoid using it when it could be used to protect her.
Aiden was the potential love interest. He was powerful, rich, good looking, and caring. He was a nice guy. There wasn’t anything to dislike about him, but I didn’t understand why almost everyone him liked him a lot. People were instantly drawn to him although they barely knew him. He just wasn’t charming or witty enough to garner that kind of attention. At least the romance wasn’t instalove.

I was surprised at how action-packed the book was. There was a lot going on in this new adult/ urban fantasy novel. I am most definitely goint to read the next book when it comes out. I also liked the characters a lot, especially the main protagonists. However, I hope that the writing style will improve as the series goes on. Because - even though it is fast-paced and descriptive - it felt flat sometimes. The world building could get better too and I hope that the characters will get through a big character development and that lots of unexpected things will happen in the continuation.
But all in all, I give the book - more or less genuine - 4 stars! -
Ummm... I liked it a good bit. Where's the next book? I need it, my curiosity is a ringing. It was great for a quick fun read.
It started off fantastic, full of mystery. Three girls wake up in the middle of nowhere with no memories except 'Run' 'Hide' 'Firesouls' a supernatural badass that can steal others powers if they kill them ... how can that not pull you in?
It skips to 10 or so years later and how they've built their lives. Little awkward here because there were discrepancies with the timeline, throughout the book. Sometimes 10 years or 15 years. Might want to edit that.
But it still had it awesome points. They know Firesouls are hunted and imprisoned, so they keep their powers and whatnot under wraps, always living careful. Then our main girl Cass meets Aidan... and um, yum. Super powerful and handsome. Always the way, ain't it? Still - I can dig it. And Aidan brings with him the news that there's a ancient mythical scroll out there that has a list of the most powerful supernaturals and their strengths and weakness, along with their names and descriptions. So of course the three girls make hunting this scroll down priority number one.
Overall I enjoyed this book. Yes there were mistakes, but it had its merits. Especially since I just finished a heart heavy, depressing book. This was just the quick fun read I needed.

Siiiiggghhhh...duck. (don't get that reference we obvs didn't grow up on the same cartoons).
Anyhow.
I was moderately interested in the premise of this book. Definitely more interested then not at least. That interest began taking a downward turn barely 5% in because the author is REALLY FOND of having the characters repeat information. Vocal confirmations they were all suffering the same symptoms. Internal dialogue confirmation. External "bad guy" dialogue confirming what was JUST CONFIRMED several pages ago.
This persists throughout though the worst offenses are at the start.
Insta-interest just add magic for the romance. I wouldn't say insta-love, but definitely insta-lust.
The world building isn't anything revolutionary (big magic keeps mortals from finding out the truth) and while I found myself interested in Del's powers, Cass annoyed me to no end.
Also any story where I accidentally skip 60% but the plot has barely inched forward, isn't a good sign (I'm on my Kindle and somehow I went from 15% to 74% between one chapter & another, but literally the only problem I had was I thought I missed Claire & Connor's help in the previous fight. I read on for another 15% before I realized wait I wasn't this far a long. Wasn't lost at all. Because NOTHING USEFUL seemed to have happened).
So this is a no rec for me. -
3.5 A decent start stars... but a little boring.
I wanted to start a new paranormal series and I saw this author trending on Amazon for some time now so why not. There are some hits and misses to this book.
First all, I think the book is a touch boring. I feel like there really wasn’t a plot or anything to grab me to anything really.
You don’t have to read the prequel to the series, it didn’t add any value to the book and I kind of regret reading it.
The book so far is cute and is 100% a YA now… I can’t say for sure as I go down the series. I’m okay with the innocent storyline and I was okay with the Cass and Aidan’s relationship. It was slow, but it matched to the beat of the book.
Overall, it was just a blah read. I can’t really tell you anything that stuck out as something worth mentioning. I will continue with the series, but I will take a book or two break. It took me about a week to read this one and that is 6 days too many for me to finish a book. -
Ancient Magic is a fun read. Lots of action -- I like action.
It's not too intense -- there is more emphasis on the sexual tension than on any other moral, ethical, philosophical, political, or religious issue...
There is, of course, a mystery -- but that is not in the foreground.
There are three strong, young women. (I’d like to learn more about their relationship in the future).
And there’s a hot guy.
The guy is gorgeous. He's more than gorgeous. He's Hollywood, supermodel gorgeous... but twice as powerful. He's dripping power. Got it.
But for those who didn’t get it the first 17 times Cass says it: This guy is hot. He's mega-hot. And he seems to be nice. And Cass’s friends like him. And he's interested in Cass... But she can't let him near because if finds out her secret, she and her sisters could wind up dead. Or worse. We get it.
But for those who didn’t get it, we get it hammered into our brains for 265 pages.
My thoughts on Aidan
Aidan's a nice guy... apart from the over-the-top sexual innuendos, which are actually quite endearing, I think he's a good guy. He’s a great guy. Almost perfect. Almost too perfect. His character is flat and doesn't show any nuances. The actor playing him in the movie will not need any real acting skills -- he just needs to be super-mega-hot and physically fit.
Problem: Information Dumping
I didn't much care for the beginning of this story. An information overload is dumped on the reader, while at the same time the story tries (too hard) to be mysterious. The narrator keeps asking a bunch of questions -- to point out how mysterious the whole situation is -- instead of dropping clues and letting the reader ask the questions. Then the three girls just start dumping out information.
The second chapter, however, is much better. I wish Ms. Hall had left the first chapter out entirely and had given us the information from the first chapter gradually, intermixed with the action of the 2nd (and perhaps consecutive) chapter(s).
The flashback in Chapter 10 is great. Cass seems to get pieces of her memory back. This is how Chapter 1 should have been dealt with. Instead of information dumping and leading the reader with Cass's questioning, the past could have been dealt with little by little in the form of memory recall -- like here. That would have made the story more mysterious and engaged the reader better.
I think the last two lines in which Cass explains her dream to the reader in the form of questions could (should!) be left out:
"Was that my past? Had Del and Nix and I been locked up somewhere?"
While that's pretty obvious, the author should give the reader a little credit -- and leave a little mystery. Let the reader ask these questions. Let the reader do a little puzzle solving.
I suggest the author instead drop a few hints, enough that the reader can start to ask questions herself/himself, enough that the reader can start speculating as to what might have happened, but not so many that the mystery is gone.
The structure of this story doesn't give the reader much credit. It does all the work for the reader.
Unless... the narrator is mistaken in the information she provides her readers and leads the reader astray with her questions. I would be impressed if that were the case.
Unanswered Questions
The questions I asked throughout the first half of the book are ALL still unanswered:
What happened to Cass, Nix, and Del when they were 16? Who were they before? Where did they come from? Who tampered with their memories and made remembering so painful for them? Who is after the scroll now? And why?
Further unanswered questions: Why is Aidan after the scroll? Why doesn't Cass look to see what the scroll says about Aidan?
So this is just part of a story...
Conclusion
It was a fast, exciting, and amusing read. I guess I will have to read the next installment to learn the answers to the mystery presented in the very first chapter... which is frustrating.
Oh, ya, and the guy is hot.

I was not sure if I was going to like this or not from the synopsis, it sounded like another YA novel that seems to be where many authors are going these days.
The truth is that is IS pretty much a YA type novel but the story is addicting and the lack of sex/profanity was a welcome change from a majority of what I have to review in the paranormal genre.
The opening scene starts out with three 15ish year old girls which made me think "I might not even finish this" but it was just a setup/background for the rest of the book and is only about 1 short chapter, but is crucial to setup the trio of women this book is about (10 years later) while concentrating on Cass (not sure if that is going to be the way the series stays or not since there are actually 3 heroines here) but I sat down and read it for 3-4 hours , went to bed, got up the next morning and finished it off in one sitting, it was THAT good :)
The action is heavy, the romance very light, the sex nonexistent, the story totally addicting. If I had any complaints it would have to be I want the whole series now, it looks to be a real keeper. 4 Stars -
A great new series from Linsey Hall in the making. As with the Mythean Arcana series, Dragon's Gift: The Huntress series promises an array of supernatural beings, danger, thrill action and romance. It is of course engineered to a younger audience but nothing is lacking in the story or how enjoyable the book is. I for one could not put it down in spite of life getting in the way. I know I'm going to be making my teenaged daughter read it.

A good start, but I was expecting less talk about how hot the hero is.
Lots of action and really it is a good start as it sets up a lot of different aspects of this world and there are different branches of magic. It is a little confusing, although I understand it better than when I read the prequel. On the prequel though... some of the things --timeline-- stated here don't really mesh with the prequel.
But, I'll be continuing on with this series. There is a lot of promise. -
Editor Needed
The plot and characters of this book were okay. They were all very Mary Sue, but likable. The world was interesting and I liked the idea of Fire Souls. The biggest thing needed was an editor to smooth the edges of the story and make it not seem so step by step. My biggest complaint was that colors kept changing. One sentence had Nix with green eyes, then a couple paragraphs later they were brown. One sentence said Nix’s hair was a crimson wave, then it was black. It really jerked you out of the story. So annoying! I probably won’t go on to the next one. It was way to G-rated for me. -

I'm excited to have gotten a chance to read Ancient Magic because it was just what I needed. A fast-paced, exciting magical romp with kick-ass female characters, and a hot Scot to boot!
Cassie and her friends don't have memories of their youth but know that someone is out for them and that they are a forbidden entity. Oops. But they're not horrible people, really! So they're in hiding, hiding their true nature, just trying to get by without drawing attention their magical abilities too much. Cassie can't use her powers at all because she is too powerful and things just blow up. But she's also a super talented seeker of treasures and procures goods for sale in their magical shop. I do love a good magical shop and a fun tomb raiding. And yes, there were plenty of references to Lara Croft in this book.
Then sexy Aidan comes along. I mean, a powerful shifter and a Scottish accent? Sign me up! He hires Cassie to find a scroll, and as it turns out this scroll will out Cassie and her friends for what they are. Uh-oh. So now it's personal, and she's out to find it at all costs. But someone else is stealing magical artifacts too, and at every turn, more kicking butt happens and battles ensue. No worries, though, our shifter friend can heal people! Can he get even hotter?
Eventually, Cassie has to start using her magic to save herself or her friends, and we get to see her vulnerable side. The final battle with the lanky of the Monster who seeks them is quite epic and got me curious to see what happens next. Is Cassie going to work on her skills and go after the Monster herself one day? Are they going to keep being in hiding? Only future books will tell.
I'm also very curious to see the relationship develop between Cassie and Aidan. They would be awesome together, and there's enough tension there to start a fire any day now. Cassie just needs to trust more, which is hard to do when you've been running and hiding your entire life.
I also enjoyed the audio of this book. The narration was fun to listen to, and the narrator had a good voice, especially with Aidan's accent ;)
The first four books of the series are already out, though I don't know how many are planned. They are pretty short so are a fun taste of paranormal goodness without dragging on. Which, as I said, was exactly what I needed right now. -

Cass and her sisters Nix and Del don’t know anything about their past. But they do know they have a big secret to keep – they’re FireSouls – and this secret could send them to Magic Prison if anyone finds out. Being a FireSoul gives them the covetousness of a dragon, and they can collect other beings' magical powers by killing them. (Reminded me of Highlander, “THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!”)
But these are nice girls. They don’t want to horde powers, they’d rather horde things an adventuring girl loves – clothes, shoes, and weapons. And to pay for this treasure trove, they hunt magical objects and sell them at their store, Ancient Magic.
In walks Aiden, who is both supremely hot, and a supremely bad ass Shifter/Magika. (He turns into a griffon, yo.) And he just happens to need some help hunting a magical scroll that reveals all of the most magical beings. Which, oh crap, probably has Cass & Co. listed as FireSouls. Cass decides to take the job, so she can destroy the scroll and save the girls from Magic Prison.
This was a quick little read. The writing was pretty good, but I did feel there were a lot of thoughts that were repeated seven or eight too many times. (I know you think Aiden is hot, and that you don’t want to think about it…) And maybe it was a little cheesy, but I enjoyed the cheese. Ancient Magic is definitely YA, with hints of urban fantasy. I hear Hall’s other series is full of steamy stuff, but don’t look for that here. We’ve got a few kisses on a boat. This will be a series, so they’ve set up some ideas for the future, but the ending wraps up enough that you don’t feel cheated.

I really actually did not like this book at all and would give it no stars if possible. First of all, the way the sentences are written are very concise and they don't flow, but I moved past that because the first chapter was somewhat interesting.
Three girls woke up somewhere and know they have to run away from some scary big bad thing. They decide to name themselves and declare each other sisters. <- This is something that seriously makes me irritated. Like the author states everything that the reader is supposed to just figure out themselves in the pages to come. There is nothing left up to our imagination. It's a problem the whole book. The only thing that the girls decided was that they are magic users of some type called Fire Souls, which is dangerous in itself to know.
10 years later. They hold a successful business, where you find out that the girls are about 25 years old. Cas hunts for magical items. Nix replicates them to return for said items back in its spot sans magic. Delphi...I forgot what she does.
Cas is also all powerful Mary Sue who meets a hot billionaire and they go searching for a scroll that could mean that all three sisters will be doomed by a Magicka council.

All in all, I feel like this is a really boring rough draft of a book. We are told everything that is going on and it's so predictable and bland. The characters have no depth to them. Like Cas could actually be the same person Nix or Delphi is and the story wouldn't really change much.
I got it as a listening book, but had no patience to really listen to it.

This is the very first book I have read by Linsey Hall, and let me just say that it is definitely not a disappointment. As a matter of fact, I really really enjoyed it. I have always liked the idea of finding treasures in tomes and old places, and the adventures that comes with it. So when I saw that this book includes finding treasures in tomes, I was instantly hooked. Plus, magic is included too. How cool is that? Will definitely read the sequel.

This is my first book from Linsey Hall. And I am so glad that I picked this one for an eARC from Netgalley. The story is so engaging. And I really did not want to put it down but I have a lot of things to finish at work and I can't seem to find time to read. But Yey! I finally got 3 hours of free time and I was able to finish it in record time.
This book is definitely a go, go for those who are into a teens/YA than romance and sci-fi fans. The story line and how Linsey writes is so easy to catch up you won't have a hard time picturing the details of the story. I instantly fell in love with the 3 girls: Cassiopeia, Phoenix and Delphinus. I just love their friendship despite of the mystery that surrounds their past. So the story began when all three of them woke up in America with no memory of who they are, where they come from, and what the caused their memory to be wiped/blocked out. What only remains in their memory is that they are a FireSouls. A kind of power wherein they inherit a piece of the dragon’s soul. It gives them the the power to steal the powers of other supernaturals but then they have to kill. I just love how the romance tend to flow at this book, there was good chemistry between the two and I was really hoping for that kiss to happen. And when they finally did? Men! I can't stop giggling and I don't know why. I guess their chemistry hit me so hard!:)
Well moving on, I just love the world building of the book. It has an interesting plot and
a very unique magic. A dragon magic to be specific. Not a lot of book has a Dragon theme and it is kind of refreshing to finally have a book without confusing it to other books (which happens to me like.. ALL THE TIME). So yeah another reason why YA out there should grab this book and read them.
The book has an open ending but not a cliffhanger. And I'm already looking forward for the next sequel. I was already thinking how Cass and Aidan will be able to surpass the palpable chemistry between them after knowing that Aidan will be training Cass to be able to control her Firesoul power. Yey! I'm giggling again. Hahahhaha. I just can't really contain my feeling.
After this book. I am hoping to have my hands full with Linsey Hall's other books. I would really love to drown myself with more books from her. Definitely a must read.

If I could only describe this book in one word it would be “Sensational!” its well told, well written, and just enough mystery to keep you guessing now we get to wait for the next one. If you love the Urban Fantasy genre and books like Ilona Andrews's Burn for Me then you will love this one.

Ancient Magic begins when Cass gets offered a job by the most powerful shifter in the world, Aiden. Not only does he want a job, but he also wants a date with her. However, she is hiding a huge secret that could not only put herself, but her two best friends in grave danger, and hanging around Aiden could be dangerous for several reasons.
But, she must find this item and destroy it before it is used against her and her friends, that's a lot easier than it sounds. Cass and Aiden set off to find the item, but trouble finds them along the way.
This book was okay. I liked the overall story line of it, but I was annoyed by the heroine. She wasn't really as strong as I imagined she should have been, and she seemed more afraid of things than normal. It bugged me. But, other than that I liked the story and the side characters as well.
I don't see myself reading more in this series, but this was a nice way to pass the time into an interesting story. -
This book was a fun surprise - I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I thought I'd be getting your typical UF full of all the usual characters and elements, but it played in a much more fun way.
Part of it was the cool Indiana Jones / Tomb Raider vibe, because the heroine Cass hunts ancient magical objects. But I also enjoyed the sibling dynamic with her "sisters" - so many UFs have the heroine as the lone strong female, with no other strong female relationships, so this was a refreshing change.
I thought the insta-love going on with Aiden was a little fast and undeveloped, and that is my primary point of criticism. But I'm eager to get more details on the backstory for not just Cass and her sisters, but also Aiden (what was that "traitor" about, from the Phantoms, hm??).

I was provided with a copy of this book by its publisher Bonnie Doon Press via NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Doesn't the description of this novel sound perfect? Amazing? Captivating? It certainly does.
But when I started reading the book, I was in for a surprise.
After reading the prologue of this novel, I couldn't wait to read more, but a few pages into the first chapter and I could already feel the change. It's as if the prologue and the rest of the novel were written by two different persons.

Waking up in the middle of no where with no memories except a few words among two other girls that you have no memory of would be horrifying in itself. Then to figure out you have powers that are forbidden would definitely make me want to run and hide. Cass, Nix, and Del become very strong women/sisters in a world that is strange and confusing to them in the beginning then when things start to take a turn and Aidan (The Origin himself) shows up things get even rockier. Cass and Aidan make a team to be reckoned with once Cass finally lets go even for a small amount of time. Linsey Hall grabbed me with The Mythean Arcana series and holds on tight with this one. I can't wait to read more of this series.

I gave this book one star and normally for a one star I'd expect to feel some sort of strong emotion to rate it so low. Unfortunately, I feel nothing, just like the characters in this book. Cardboard cutouts would have more personality. The world building was sketchy, confusing and incomplete. There are plot holes and contradicting actions and it was just a mess.
I am hoping that since this is the first book in the series the next book will be better. -
Read is in a few hours but I really enjoyed these sassy sisters. This story is in Cass' perspective. She is very strong yet at times unconfident. It's an interesting dichotomy. I really enjoyed how she practically runs from Aiden's pull. She has a stronger will than I would. There is lots of action and much more mysteries than the book can solve.
