Something waiting for the perfect storm to free it from its shackles.
Something that only comes out when it rains…
Rory thought losing his dream job and moving back in with his parents was bad. He thought having to face the one that got away was even worse. On his second day back home, he gets dragged into a night of camping by his best friend Woody and, of course, Rachel is there. Looking just as beautiful as the day she left him. Her new boyfriend, on the other hand, just looks plain jealous. Under a blanket of stars, quiet ghost stories around the popping fire lead to skinny-dipping in the silvery moonlight, just like old times. But when people start disappearing beneath the water, Rory will have to fight hard to save his life. He’ll have to fight harder to save hers.
The next morning, the town sheriff finds no trace of wrongdoing. No bodies. No blood. No nada. He shakes his head at their story about the things that came out of the lake – the moss-covered ones that snatched Rory’s friends like crocodiles springing from the water’s edge. It’s a morbid tale the sheriff writes off to an alcohol-infused misunderstanding. Nothing more, nothing less. That is, until more missing persons reports start coming in.
Sheriff Hooper begins to fear a serial killer is on the loose and when he uncovers the shocking truth, he’ll wish it was that easy. When it begins to rain, he’ll wish there was an escape from the evil incarnate unleashed upon his sleepy little town.
Find out why readers are calling this “Fisher’s best yet”, “a must read”, and “creepier than A Little More Dead”.
- Floodwater is a full-length standalone novel and now available on audiobook.

“Holy Shit,” he panted, hitting dry sand and picking up speed. “There’s something in the water!”
Vote: ☆☆☆ 1/2
Aquatic zombies are not so original if you watched Lucio Fulci's Zombie 2, but this was a decent indie zombie read with a nice Laymon vibe.
The ending had not much sense for me, but It was so bleak and unexpected that rised final vote half star. -
Hope?
A small town is overrun by zombies whenever it rains.
This book is filled with zombie action and suspense. Lots of action. -
Creative new take on the zombie genre for me - thrive in the rain and exist in a lake. Scary!

Audiobook Reviewer.
I wasn’t inspired by this audiobook. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t enjoy it either.
The story concept was unoriginal and had some fairly gaping plot holes, but it could have been elevated into something much better if it had been paired up with the right narrator for the job. Unfortunately, I don’t think J. Scott Bennett was the right narrator – he didn’t incorporate any emotion into the characters or add to the suspense, the audio itself was slow and wasn’t able to hold my attention or interest.
The production quality was good and I wondered if it was just me being fussy that was getting in the way of my enjoying this book but the more I think about it, the more I think that it really was the lack of any emotion and intonation that made it hard to latch on to.
Rory is back in his hometown and goes on a lakeside camping trip with his old high school buddies, and you know what that means in any zombie novel! After most of his friends have been devoured, he joins up with a ragtag bunch of survivors and tries to get out of the danger zone before it’s too late.
I never did pick up on the finer points of the whys and wherefores of this zombie outbreak, but the local undertaker has been dumping bodies in the lake which was contaminated with toxic waste a decade ago.
This can obviously mean only one thing… Waterborne zombies.
This idea was actually pretty novel and could have been fascinating, but the story focused more on the survivors rather than the cause of the outbreak.
The story plods on predictably once the zombies have taken their first lumbering steps above the water, though this could be more of a statement on how many zombie novels and films I’ve devoured.
This is one of those rare moments when I highly recommend reading the print edition of this book rather than listening to the audio, I found my attention wandering throughout the story and think that I would have got on much better by reading the book myself.

It would be more like 2 1/2 stars. I LOVE the idea! There were times that I loved the story, but my disgusted groans outnumbered my freaked out screams of oh shit and the end reeked to high heaven (at least for me).
I really didn't care for the first part of the book at all. I thought Rory was an ass and didn't give a fig about him. By the time the action started, I wasn't expecting much, but, I was pleasantly surprised. This author knows how to write action! I just wish the characters were fleshed out a little more and were a bit less flakey. -
Here's how this works. Somebody says; "How about a book with aquatic zombies?" Then someone else actually says, "Yes." By all accounts this book should be awful but it's not. It's readable and scary and fun. And fucked up too. Try it. :)

Best zombie book yet !
Let this one this book take a bite out of you ! You won't regret it ! Couldn't put it down ! -
This was a different twist on zombies, but I liked the originality. There were some horndog moments, but also lots of zombie chases and tense situations. Warning a fair amount of gore and unsettling scenes, which if we have established zombies and gore and I am using the word "unsettling" you can bet your butt it's pretty bad scenes.

This is reminiscent of a B-Rated horror flick that we all love to hate. You know the one...small town living, young people camping and partying...getting crazy...then BAM water zombies come out of the lake they are camping next to and chaos begins.
Then, of course, a couple of them become dinner, a few get away to alert the town (who initially don't believe them), and then BAM the town is overrun and converted to water zombies (after the townsfolk are bitten).
Did I mention that these water zombies become stronger in the rain and that there's a storm raging throughout the story .. but of course there is. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, this is all the classic horror that I loved to watch as a teen, all nicely gift wrapped and packaged into this book. Sometimes horror can be enjoyable and fun while at the same time have a smidge of gore and ewww really? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 -
Bodies that have been dumped in the lake instead of properly buried. A lake that was contaminated by a toxic spill years earlier.
As if we needed more reasons to stay out of the water. Flesh eating bacteria, brain eating amoeba's, and now zombies. On top of that now the rain is off limits too. Zombies with a little twist.
Starts out slow. In the beginning the dialogue seems childish at times and it reminded me of a B-movie script. As the story unfolds and the action gets started it gets much better and turns into a very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story.
Laughed at the conversation about cartoon characters. It puts an age stamp on some of us. Loved Alex's character he was my favorite.
J.Scott Bennett did a really good job with the narration as usual. He conveys all the emotions of the characters. Great character voices. Smooth even paced narration.

The beginning of this book drove me crazy. It dripped with constant adjectives and foreshadowing. Too much! I still had to keep reading. I live on the lake and am scared of fish and the possibility of dead bodies- but then add in dead bodies turning into zombies and I may never go swimming again! The book did get much better. The action was heart-racing, the characters were ok, even if the dialogue seemed choppy. This is a dark book and a pretty exciting one, and it should have 2.75 stars, but it started off so badly that i just couldn't give it three stars.

I rarely allow myself to leave book unfinished, but with this crap I can't fight anymore. After several unsuccessful attempts to read it, I gave it up and threw it away. While reading, I literally could feel starting losing a brain cells.
The story feels more suitable for a B-rated horror movie, made for some long-forgotten TV channel. The only thing I appreciate is the small dose of humor the author is using and usually that's very suitable for such stories, but even that can't save Floodwater from deep sinking. -
I would give this book 3.5 Stars. It wasn't horrible, buuuuuuttttt, it left a lot to be desired. Though the way the zombies came to be put a new spin on the whole Zombie Genre, it still seemed a bit silly and farfetched. Though not enough to deter me from reading/finishing the book. Multiple times during the story I found myself hoping for a bit more. Kinda waiting for the other shoes to drop, and for the story to be "better". Unfortunately, that didn't happened til the VERY end of the book. All in all it was a decent story, that passes the time on a lazy weekend.

Scary and fast
Kept me up all night just trying to get done so it would end. Then I had nightmares! Reads like a good Stephen King, meets the walking dead! Scary as well! Good job totally recommend, but stay away from the water and prey it doesn't rain! -
This book has such a creative, unique and fun twist on zombies. I loved it. But as for the rest of the story, it could have been so, so much better. It wasn't horrendous, but it definitely missed its potential.
-
Another winner from this author. I've loved everything I have read of his. I absolutely love the waterborn zombie idea. This book also had some truly hilarious parts. Avada kadabra!
-
I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt the appropriate way about different characters and most importantly I kept turning pages and was gripped by tense moments.
-
Interesting twist on a solid zombie story.

Zombies and they are coming from that water. Will Rory, Hooper, Rachel, woody and all the other manage to survive the days to come that are straight from a nightmare or will they end up as one of the walking dead too??
This book was quite interesting to say the least. I had personally never heard of zombies coming from the water before so this was a unique and first time thing for me. I still believe that there was more to be explained on how those zombies came to be though. It seemed just loosely described and not given much care.
The book certainly played like a horror movie to me. The describing of the characters and the details of what exactly was going down worked well for painting a vivid picture in my mind that I could clearly see playing out.
All that being said some of the deaths of characters seemed rushed and totally out of place. It seemed like they just wanted to get rid of the character and just suddenly killing them off was the best choice?? (Yes this was a hit at Doc's death). And then Grundy mourning of his private that just got pulled into the water played out so much like a poorly acted scene in a B movie. For some reason I don't feel like that would have been something that he would have done and it just left me kind of annoyed.
Lastly, the ending was something else in of its self. I knew that something had to be going down with the book seemingly wrapping up and yet having so much time left in it. I suppose it certainly isn't one of those good feeling endings I could have accepted it except for some certain things. Once again it seemed like the zombies were just brought back because it was relevant to the plot. I fail to understand how a mosquito could do such a thing. Then I wonder how the military didn't think of such a thing and get those people out of that area and figure crap out before letting people live there. I guess that really leaves the book open for sequel with one of the other main characters but all of it seems a bit far fetched to me.
Overall, this was a decent book. I did love how vivid it was and how it played out like a movie but some of the things were just to far fetched for me to really enjoy and get into the book and some things just to sudden and annoying. It seems almost like any other zombie book except for the water thing. -
Oh my god, this is bad.
It's a book full of cliches.
It's a book full of "Oh shit, zombies...but...titties."
It's a book full of "It _____ like _____"
It's just not fun to read. Sorry. -
Syfy
Reads like a syfy movie, which I was expecting, and was a decent "junk food" read to break up the heavier reading I've been doing. -
I've read some pretty mixed reviews regarding this, so didn't really expect much from it when I started, but I'm so happy to say that I really really enjoyed it.
The plot plodded along nicely. It wasn't extremely fast paced but had a steady pace the whole way through. It centered on a lake in Minot, North Dakota. A funeral parlour decided that they would start dumping bodies into the lake instead of burying them in their fine caskets! Add in a toxic spill and some lightening to hit the lake and, bam, you have you Zombies! I have to say that it was definitely a unique way for the Zombie virus to begin but in a way, I really liked this idea!! Plus after being in the lake a long time, some of the Zombies were grotesque and bloated. *Shudder* Also because the were "born" in the lake, the Zombies can't stray far from water because they can't function without it, so attacks only happen in or around the water, but when a group of friends go camping and partying near the lake, the Zombies attack. The group dwindle down to 3, who make their way for help, only to have the police think they are crazy. They go to the lake but only find the remnants of the party of the night before. While at the lake though, it starts to rain!! Not just rain, but pour! A storm is here, and along with it, the Zombies can rise!!! Who will survive the Floodwater??
As I said, I really loved the idea of how the Zombies came to be and how they can only move if there's water!! Definitely unique in a saturated genre. The characters meanwhile were all well written and developed. From the weird ass mortuary assistant (dude, he was weird with a capital W!!) to the childhood boyfriend/girlfriend reunited! Seriously, this author created a very colourful cast of characters!!!!
In all, this was a surprisingly good Zombie book. It kept my attention throughout and made me want to check out more from this author. I would definitely love to see a second book in this series!
This isn't the first book I've listened to that has been narrated by J. Scott Bennett, nor will it be my last. He has a pleasant and easy to listen to voice and reads a story well. He has a range of tones and voices and always delivers!
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.* -

Floodwater is a zombie story, that nobody wants to believe. After a group camping trip where an attack happens and some of the friends are drug into the lake to become more of the undead. Will the sheriff end up believing before it's too late? There are some twists that make this different from other zombie books. This will make you stay away from the lake, or even venture out in the rain.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. J. Scott Bennett is a pleasure to listen to, and keeps the story gripping.
