This story has an intriguing plotline. And my fascination in seeing how things pan out makes for an absorbing read. This is such an emotionally stirring romance with an equally moving plot which I won't talk about on purpose. You'll have to read the book to know the finer details but I will talk about the characters from a reader's perspective. We experience sibling love and the strong bond between sisters. What Kayla has done for her now dead sister is remarkable. I cheered for her, cried for her and laughed for her when things worked in her favor. Donovan on the other hand is a man who any woman would like to get to know. Even when he wants to run he stays. Even when he doesn't want to show his emotions he does something good. I loved him and loved him even more when he acknowledges his feelings for Kayla. Their coming together is beautiful and I happily cheered them on. Dreamy. Thank you Yvonne Lindsay for writing such a wonderful story!

Very good book with a somewhat unusual storyline. Van, Kayla and her sister grew up together. Van and her sister were best friends, while Kayla was a tagalong. Years later, Kayla's sister is diagnosed with cancer and asks Van to be sperm donor for her so she can have children after her treatment. But she died, leaving the eggs to Kayla, who swore she would have the babies her sister couldn't. Five years later she's already given birth to one, but there are two left. The clinic is about to close down and destroy unused embryos. Kayla isn't financially ready for another baby, but she has no choice. So she goes to Van to ask for his help.

Van is surprised to see Kayla and stunned to discover that he's a father. He'd agreed to be donor, never expecting the embryos to be used. He's not happy to discover that he's a father, and flatly refuses to help Kayla with the others. In fact, he's determined to stop her from using them at all. By the time he gets all the paperwork in order, it's too late - Kayla is pregnant again.

I really liked Kayla. She's been a bit of a dreamer, footloose and commitment free. But once she decided to have her sister's baby, she changed her entire life. I loved hearing everything she did, both before and after Sienna was born. She also has a big heart, helping people who need a second chance. Unfortunately, her most recent helpee ended up helping herself to Kayla's savings and disappearing, which forced Kayla into asking for Van's help. When he refuses she's determined to push on anyway.

Van was a bit harder for me to like, at least at the beginning. When he first appears, he's contemplating his upcoming marriage proposal. It's obvious it's more of a business merger, with no thought of love. When Kayla came to him, he was furious about the existence of the baby and pretty darn nasty to Kayla. When he went to her a few days later, he was horrified to see that they'd been the victims of an attack, and that Kayla was extremely ill. His protective instincts come out and he insists on Kayla and Sienna moving in with him. He becomes a bit of a contradiction at this point, protective and kind, but also frequently cold and aloof.

I liked seeing the relationship develop. There is an attraction between them that can't be denied. They gave into it once, after her sister's funeral, with Van disappearing without a word the next day. Now they fight its effects every day. Kayla is there under protest, only because she is so sick and needs the help. Her pride and independence have her protesting just about everything Van does. He tends to roll right over her when he decides something needs to be done, which really ticks her off. However, he is also getting closer to little Sienna. I loved seeing him slip into the daddy role, even though he is sure that he isn't fit for the job. Kayla began to fall more deeply for him, as she saw the man he could be emerge from the shell created by his past. But Van still has those fears and continues to push her away, or withdraw as far as he can. But when his former fiancee gets involved, Van has to face those fears or lose Kayla, Sienna and the new baby, and any chance of happiness. I loved his big moment at the end, seeing him admit his fears to Kayla. I also liked that it wasn't a sunshine and rainbows ending, but an admission that it would take effort to ensure their happiness.

I really liked this story about a man who didn't want a family who, through a decision made years ago, suddenly finds himself with not one, but two children.
Van starts off a bit unlikeable, proposing a workmanlike marriage to a person not the heroine. When Kayla turns up with the news that the sperm he donated years ago for her sister Sienna had been used he is less than pleased. He'd thought with Sienna's death five years ago that was the end of the story. And the end of his connection with Kayla.
Poor Van. He wants to walk away but he has this streak of responsibility that keeps dragging him back to Kayla and little Sienna and the new surrogate baby Kayla is carrying despite his demand she forget it.
This was a great story about people having to overcome the past so they can have a future.

With an intriguing story line and interesting characters made this a book that was hard to put down.
Sienna Porter and Donavan Murphy were best friends growing up, with the Porter house and family becoming somewhat of a safe haven for Van. When, as adults, Sienna was diagnosed with cancer, Van agreed to become her sperm donor, so she could still have a family after the treatments. When Sienna loses the battle, Van and Sienna's little sister, Kayla, spend a grief and alcohol-fueled night of passion, after which Van leaves Kayla behind.
Kayla Porter was the little sister/pest and free-spirit. She made her dying sister a promise she intends to keep, changing into a responsible adult fit to raise her sister's children. She intended to do it alone, but when circumstances change, she needs Van's help to finish the process.
Five years after she last saw him, she walks into Van's office with her daughter, who is obviously his daughter, asking for financial help. Van, who has become very successful, never intended to have children and refuses to help bring more into the world, but realizes that he needs to help with the daughter he does have.
With twists and turns, these two navigate emotions and expectations, fighting their baggage, with the chance that they may, possibly, become a family.
This was an interesting story with characters and a story that are well-written and believable. Lindsay continues to write stories that keep me coming back! I definitely recommend it.

A good story idea with interesting main characters. Donovan or Van as Kayla calls him may have made it big in the financial realm but he is running scared when it comes to anything emotional. Because of so much pain beginning in his childhood, he has iron control of his feelings. He can refuse to feel.

Kayla is a wide open, feeling woman. She has lived a fancy free life up until she took up her sister's dream of children. Then she got a big wake up call when it came to responsibility. She still jumps heart first with both feet but now she also is totally invested into the children.

So you can see that this is going to be an emotional story with some cruel moments from Van as he tries to deal with everything in a cold and distant manner.

I gave this a 3.5 Star rating on Amazon because it was an okay story. But I gave it the extra points for the emotional parts of the story being well done. Also because it wasn't your usual type of story.

Others reviewed this book - or just re-wrote the back cover. My feelings on the book?

    1. new-to-me author though I have a number of her books

    2. love Lindsay's writing style - smooth and seamless; one of the great author-finds of 2018

    3. this was a stand-alone book - what a rarity; what joy to read a one-off book and not worry about finding the rest of a series

    4. the story was wonderful, I thought Lindsay dealt naturally about the subject; there was the bitchy other woman that I could 'almost' understand (wouldn't it be nice if SHE could be reformed), wishful dreamer than I am: I want everyone to be happy

Thank you, Yvonne Lindsay, for a wonderful introduction to your books. I see a happy future ahead of me reding through your book list.

Gotta love a Hqn title. It’s a question!

Well dear reader, it was in fact two heirs. This is my second read from the author and though I didn’t love this one as much, I thought the drama between Kayla and Van was sexy and frustrating! They spend so much time resisting each other! I enjoyed that but it also drove me crazy lol. If you love slow burn and Desire novels in general I’d recc this one.

This was a good book. Kayla has a huge heart. Her sister died of cancer. Before she died, Kayla promised her sister, that she would have her babies. Kayla's sister had frozen her eggs, and asked Van to donate his sperm. Her sister knew time was running out, but always dreamed of being a mom. Kayla had Sienna, and named her after her beautiful sister. Kayla wanted to space out the children, so she would have money to raise them, and give the kids everything they would need. The sperm bank was closing, and was going to destroy all the eggs, and sperm. Kayla had no choice but to ask Van for his help. She had a nest egg saved, but not enough to cover everything. Kayla had let a homeless teenager move in. She had been there for months. She thought they had a friendship, and trust. One day that trust was shattered, when the girl drained her bank account, and left. Now Kayla needed Van's help more than anything.

Van was shocked to find out he was a father. He was more shocked to find out Kayla was pregnant, and he was soon to be dad to two. Van had a rough child hood. he never wanted kids. He was afraid he would pass down bad DNA, like alcoholism that ran throughout his family.

The emotions were strong. Can Van get past his emotional wall, to embrace the love that Kayla has to offer? I loved the way he bonded with Sienna. She was a adorable baby. I'm a sucker for books with babies.

This is the 2nd book I read by Yvonne Lindsay. I loved this book's story line. Some parts of this story was sad. I loved Kayla's character. I loved Van's character. I loved the scenes with Van & Sienna. I didn't like Dani. I loved the ending. Awesome job Ms. Lindsay.

There wouldn't be a book if Kayla simply switched fertility clinics and moved the remaining embryos to a new facility. It's a commoon practice, and I found it strange that no one came up with this idea. She didn't have to do the embryo transfer procedure simply because her clinic was closing.

One Heir ... Or Two is guaranteed to tear at your heartstrings a little. Donovan Murphy has built a hard shell around himself after leaving the army and building a lucrative security business. Wealthy and successful, he doesn't think he has the time or the inclination to become emotionally involved with either a woman or a child.
When his former childhood friend Kayla Porter arrives in his office carrying a child that looks remarkably like him and begging for help, the last thing he wants to do is get tangled up with either of them. He's carrying scars from a rough childhood while Kayla is trying to raise Sienna, her dead sister's daughter and prove that she is a responsible adult.
These two rub each other up the wrong way from the start and it was fun watching them sort out their trust issues while fighting their very obvious mutual attraction. Yvonne Lindsay has delivered another very satisfying read in this story.

I received this book in response for an honest review

The synopsis for this book intrigued me, while not something I'd normally go for, it had enough going for it that I wanted to read it. This book was a lot 'lighter' than some of the other Yvonne Lindsay books I have read before, so makes for an easy, if somewhat disappointing read. While I know M&B books aren't supposed to be full blown, in depth novels, I do like the books I read to have a little depths. There was so much history and back story to this book and it was simply glossed over a little. While I don't need it to be in depth, I would have liked to see a little more depth, exploration and emotion. However, that being said it is a sweet, very predictable story, despite the unusual circumstances.
