A tough read that took me longer than I could have imagined. After a more character-centred beginning, the memoirs soon devolve into a series of disjointed anecdotes and Rochefort recedes into the role of a storyteller. What's worse, the stories he tells are rather uninteresting (border disputes, fishing right disputes, marriage troubles).
