An Amish Christmas Love: Four Novellas Reviews

  • Deanne Patterson

A fun collection of 4 Amish Christmas novellas by some of today's top Amish writing authors. I really enjoyed these stories and they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face while reading them.
    Pub Date 12 Sep 2017
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson--FICTION for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Four heart warming novellas that are just right for a one sitting quick read, of course, you won’t be able to stop at just one.
Four different authors and four different stories all set in Amish country, all taking place at Christmas time, and all contain a form of “love”, whether human or animal, they all make real the meaning of my favorite holiday.
Each story is set in a different part of the US, but all are connected by being set with Plain people, and feature a bit of romance, all set in the winter.
This book has a bit for everyone and four of my favorite authors, when I seen their names I know I’m in for a treat.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

Novella collections are the perfect read when I need a break during busy times, which happens more often than I’d like! And since I love Amish fiction, An Amish Christmas Love by four authors that I always enjoy was so very satisfying. Each story is centered around the Christmas season and includes some romance.

Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman is a little unconventional, and I loved that about it. With three generations of unmarried women living under one roof, and three eligible bachelors staying in their guest house, what could possibly go wrong? The grandmother, Ruth, simply stole the show with her outspokenness and unconventional ways. Just a fun story in every way, but with that touch of seriousness that Wiseman is known for.

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston … Now anyone who knows of my love for cats suspects that I would gravitate to this story, and they would be right. I don’t know if cats can really respond to a human’s emotions, but I’ve had a few unexplainable experiences with these precious felines over the years. Little Hank stole my heart, of course, but there’s much more than that involved with this well-crafted story. Clipston has an ability to draw from the ordinariness of life and create a narrative that not only inspires, but connects you emotionally from the first page. What would normally be a depressing theme is offset by sweet memories as Emma reminisces, four thoughtful young adults who are snowbound at Emma’s, and a cat that adopts her … all resulting in a joyful and hope-filled story, reflected in this prayer from Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him …”

Sometimes a novella will continue with secondary characters from the author’s other books – and while I don’t know for sure, I suspect that might be the case with Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin. I enjoyed this sweet story, especially its spiritual themes of forgiveness and transformation, but I felt like there was a lot of backstory that I didn’t know. Still a good read and I’m glad it was included in this collection.

Ruth Reid is an outstanding writer and Home for Christmas is a wonderful conclusion to this collection. However, I need to finish reading this story before sharing my thoughts in order to do it justice. I’ll update this review very soon.

I was provided a free e-copy of this book through the author and NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I have read a few books about the Amish or Plain people, but most have been mysteries. This book is made up of four heart warming novellas. They all take place at Christmas time and have various themes such as Lost Love, Grief and love remembered, forgiveness, friendship etc. Each story can be read in one sitting. I am not going to go into detail about each story, you can read that in the book description, but suffice it to say that they are heart warming stories that show us God's grace and love. There is love in all four stories and show what the meaning of Christmas really is. I have not read any books by these authors, but suspect that some of the characters and their back stories may be told in their other books. Because these are novella, there is not a detailed plot in the stories, but they are a refreshing read for this time of the year. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet, romantic, clean story. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

I always enjoy reading Amish Christmas books. This one is now my favorite this year. Four amazing stories wrapped into one great book. Each story will warm your heart and have you feeling like you are there with them. I really like the fact that the authors took time to allow you to get to know each Character. Sometimes novellas are rushed. Not these in this book. Even though I didn't want the stories to end, each one was detailed and well written. I never read books a second time but this one will be the first. I plan to read it again in December.

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman
Three generations of Stoltzfus women are all living under the same roof. At twenty-five, Naomi has never been married, and both her mother, Barbara, and her grandmother, Ruth, have recently been widowed. Each nursing broken or lonely hearts, they also each have potential suitors. When a storm on Christmas Eve forces the three couples to take shelter in the basement of the Stotlzfus homestead, secrets are revealed, hearts are opened, and all three potential grooms drop to their knees for very different reasons—a proposal, a prayer, and an epiphany.

My thoughts: WINTER KISSES has a charming title - and a unique theme. Three single women. Three single men all together at the women's bed and breakfast for the month of December. I wasn't sure what to think of Ruth. She added a bit of comic relief to the story, but wow was she forward. Eli was a sweetheart and reminds me of someone I know. A very sweet, unconventional romance by Beth Wiseman. Fans of Amish fiction and Ms. Wiseman's usual women's fiction will love this.
The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston
Emma Bontrager is spending her first Christmas alone after her husband of 45 years, Henry, passed away in July. Although the Amish don’t normally allow animals in their homes, a big, fat, orange barn cat keeps coming into Emma’s house. She shoos the cat away, but it continues to appear in her house, settling on Henry’s favorite wingchair. But the cat isn’t the only Christmas visitor: a group of young people help bring the Christmas spirit to Emma, reminding her that love and hope abide.

My thoughts: THE CHRISTMAS CAT is kind a sad story, but it's also sweet. Emma is spending her first Christmas without her husband and as expected is awash in a sea of memories. The story sways from present to past as she relives her courtship with Henry and their years together. A cat decides to spend Christmas with her, and some young adults stop by to share a meal and fellowship and end up snowed in. A sweet story, even if I did read it with a tear in my eye.
    Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin
As a young man enjoying his rumspringa, David Byler gave his heart to an Englisch girl, but he eventually realized he couldn’t give up his Plain faith and family for her, so he let her go. He’s found a new love in his Bee County Plain community, Molly Shrock. Molly has been patient, waiting for the man she loves to love her back. Just as he is ready to propose, David makes a startling discovery: Bobbie McGregor, his Englisch love, is back. Will Molly’s prayers for a Christmas love be answered?

My thoughts: SNOW ANGELS is a sweet and sour romance. David can't quite make up his mind. The sweet, quiet Amish girl -- Molly -- with whom there is no sparks, but part of the life he wants, or the wild, exciting Englisch girl -- Bobbie -- who fills his every thought and dream. I felt kind of sorry for Molly. She had so much to deal with, with her beau having feelings for another woman, the bold Englisch woman talking with her, rumors, and of course, two young Mexican children who just lost their sole relative. Set in Ms. Irvin's popular Bee County, Texas, it plays in with that series.

Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid
When a misdirected GPS sends Ellie Whetstone to the wrong address, she inadvertently finds herself breaking into the home of Amish man, Ezra Mast. Ellie hopes to fix up the house left by her aenti and sell it quickly, but a series of run-ins with Ezra and his young daughter have her questioning whether a hasty sale is the right move. Could this new place with its slower pace be the right home for Ellie?

My thoughts: Ruth Reid's HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is a story with a bit more substance than the previous three. Ellie is Englisch and very heavily involved in the show dog business with a poodle named Lulu. Ezra Mast is a widower with a young daughter with a disease that causes seizures. Ellie's aunt and Dad were Amish, but Ellie is not. She is kind of a misfit in this community with people questioning her and suspecting her, and she herself is not sure of her future. I did enjoy this story very much, though thought Ezra was a bit harsh at times.

Overall thoughts: A very nice collection. I requested it due to Kate Lloyd and Ruth Reid's stories as I love their Amish books. They are different than the average, cookie-cutter Amish fiction. However, both Beth's and Amy's in this collection, were different, too, and quite good.

Recommended for fans of Amish fiction or of any of these four authors.

I received a copy free. All opinions are my own.

This is a sweet collection of Amish Christmas novellas by a group of great authors. Each story is about situations revolving around the holidays and how the characters cope with memories and life decisions at this special time of year.

Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman is the story of three women in a family living together on their farm and working in a family florist. Ruth is the mother in law of Barbara and grandmother of Naomi. Ruth and Barbara are widows and Naomi has never been married and has never allowed anyone close enough to date her. She has seen the sorrow from the death of her father and grandfather and doesn't want to go through it herself. But the truth is that all three women are lonely for the love of a man in their life. When they rent out the daadi haus on their property to three Amish men from another area for a month while they work a job, there might be a change in the air.

In the Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston, Emma Bontrager is experiencing her first Christmas since her husband's death. She and her husband never had children so it is set to be a lonely time. Just as it start snowing on Christmas Eve, a stray cat refuses to leave her porch so she lets him inside to get away from the weather. She was supposed to eat with another family but decided the weather wasn't good to venture out in the icy conditions. Her only phone is in the barn so she doesn't go use it to let them know that she won't make it. The teenage children of the family and a couple of friends go check on her and wound up getting snowed it with her for the night. This is the sweet story of a group of caring kids spending their time with a widow as she remembers and shares the memories of her forty five years of marriage with her husband. This was probably my favorite of the novellas and is a story of love and hope for the future.

Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin is another great story of faith in God's will and discerning what that will is in their life. David Byler fell for Bobbie McGregor, an Englisch woman, during his rumspringa but she didn't want him to leave his faith and broke it off. She went off to college and tried to forget David. For a year David has been spending time with Molly Shrock from his church. Molly's family was not living in the community when David and Bobbie knew each other. Now, Bobbie is back working on her family ranch after her father had a heart attack. Bobbie is still in love with David. This is time of struggle in David's life where he has some decisions to make. He loved Bobbie when she broke it off. But, is he willing to leave the Amish community for Bobbie? Or does he love Molly?

In Home For Christmas by Ruth Reid, Ellie Whitstone drives to Michigan to see a home that she inherited from her Amish aunt Bonnie Whitstone. Ellie's parents were both Amish but when her father died, her mother left the faith and moved away with Ellie when she was very young. Her mother has told her that no one in the Amish community would welcome her. So she goes back to put the house on the market. When she accidentally mistakes a neighbor's house for her aunt's, she thinks her mom must be right. Ezra Mast and his daughter, Allison, live in the neighboring house and he doesn't seem to like Ellie at first. But Allison loves Ellie's dog, Lulu; they bond immediately. Ellie has a strong faith and as she reads her aunt's journal, she revisits her family roots and her history. Will she and Ezra become friends? Ellie lives in an RV and really has no home other than her aunt's house. What is in her future?

This are all good reads for the Christmas season. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.

This is a sweet collection of novellas that will help readers usher in the Christmas season. The stories were short enough to make for a quick read, but long enough to help me connect to the characters.

Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman – I enjoyed the humor of this lighthearted story. The grandmother provided quite a few fun moments and the romances were sweet, too. This was an uplifting story.

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston – Although I really enjoy this author’s writing, I was afraid that I might not like this story simply because I knew that the main character was freshly grieving. But, the author pulled off a beautiful and heartfelt story. I loved the flashbacks!

Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin – This novella is set in Bee County, Texas and can stand alone even though it is part of a series. Since I have read the series, I was thrilled to return to this community. I thought the author did an excellent job of conveying David’s confusion and Molly’s heartache, making for an extremely interesting story.

Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid – I enjoyed the interactions between Ellie and Ezra in this fish out of water story. These two people from different worlds seemingly shouldn’t find themselves drawn together, or should they? I liked how this novella highlighted the power of prayer.

I am always in the mood for a good Christmas story, and it's always a bonus when I get to sit down and read more than one in one book! So, it never fails when I get a new book with Christmas themes, that I fall in love with them. This is no exception!

This anthology contains four heart warming stories centered around the Amish. Each story pulled me in, hooked me and took me on a wonderful sleigh ride through God's amazing graces. These four authors know exactly what their readers like and how to keep them engrossed. Their characters are finely chiseled and real to life and their messages from God are beautifully woven into each story.

I can't pick just one favorite though! All four stories held me captive equally, all four stories ones that I would recommend to all. But, Ruth Reid's and Amy Clipston's stories never fail to bring me so many emotions, from happiness to love. They take me on ups and downs, and ins and outs with their moving stories, and I love their writing styles. Ms. Wiseman and Ms. Irving have beautiful styles too, and their stories are vivid and tender.

If you love Christmas, beautiful characters and wonderful writing, then this book is the one you want to read this holiday season. These authors will hook you! I highly recommend this book with the highest of 5 stars! Hats off to some very talented ladies.

    Boring.

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman

I feel like no matter how I chose to review novella’s the first story always bears the brunt. Not necessarily about the story or even in my feelings about the story or the rating of the book. Novella’s are hard for me to love. I have a ‘thing’ about the whole falling in love so fast and jumping both feet in. I’ve talked about that before a few times. Novella’s also have a hard time truly building an integrated story that doesn’t feel rushed or lacking or having massive time jumps to attempt to resolve a story line. Wiseman hit this one out of the park! Yes they fell in love entirely too fast for my liking. Oh the abundance of love stories in this concise little novella. A love for three generations, at the same time! The author even managed to seamless integrate the ‘grit’ (for lack of a better word), that I love about her books, seamlessly. It added to the depth of the characters without detracting from the story of love. This is what novella’s need to be, for me. There was no need to figure out where they ended up and jumping time for a tidy bow. It was exactly what it needed to be in the moment. No need to borrow from the future. No need to dwell on the past. I’m almost speechlessly blown away.

The Christmas CatThe Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston

Let’s keep the awesome rolling shall we? Another perfectly woven novella that developed endearing characters with a strong story line that was just comfortable in it’s own skin. One cozy snowbound night with a grieving widow, a stray cat, and a group of teenagers that may or may not have courting in their future. Memories shared, memories made, a love for the ages. The first two novellas in this collection are everything I didn’t know I wanted in a novella. A snapshot of a moment in time without the overarching need to make it more. Though to be fair, I was skeptical how this story fit with the title. I mean a story about a cat and some kids? But it does. It embraces the title like a favorite old comfy sweater on a cold winter night. Throw in some hot cocoa and I’m hooked.

Snow AngelsSnow Angels by Kelly Irvin

This story had a few very sweet moments that I fell in love with. The story itself as one of redemption and forgiveness and love was spot on. However, I didn’t feel like I had a good grasp of the characters and the larger picture at play. There were moments of the snapshot of time that I loved in the previous stories but there was so much backstory that I didn’t get a good grasp on that made these characters harder to get a good grasp on and to truly care about. They lacked a depth in this story that I suspect has been developed somewhere else that I’ve not read. This story still has a gentle sweetness that I adored and which redeemed what I lacked in character understanding and story flow.

Home for ChristmasHome for Christmas by Ruth Reid

Oh for the love of gravy! Reid’s story wrapped up this collection so perfectly that I have a slight book hangover. More than a snapshot but less than the need for a complete novel, this book hit each and every little tiny Christmas nail on the head. Bringing it all home with characters to love and cherish and a story that was just so fitting and filled with love. It’s hard to embrace the idea that Ellie would give up everything she knows for something that she has so few memories of. However, at the end of the day faith in God, openness to humanity, and a bit of ‘neighborliness’ makes it all just so embracing and honest and ultimately believable.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Ruth Reid and NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Genre: Holiday > Christmas; Christian Fiction > Amish Fiction; Romance

    🌨👼-⭐️⭐️
    🏡🎄-⭐️⭐️

My thoughts: 📖 Page 25 of 377 Winter Kisses Ch. 4 - This isn't exactly what I was expecting. This must be Contemporary Amish or something; if you take away the German, you wouldn't know it was Amish Fiction.

❄️💋- This story was fun but didn't really feel Amish; if you take away the language, it could easily be a clean romance.

📖112 The Christmas Cat Ch. 3 - This story is kind of bland.

🎄🐈- I didn't like this one. I didn't see the purpose of the cat, I didn't like the format of the story, and the characters were lacking.

📖183 Snow Angels Ch. 2 - Another slow start.

🌨👼- I just didn't get into the story at all. Once I put it together, it was over, so I wasn't a fan.

🏡🎄- This story was interesting but rushed doesn't even define what they did with the ending it was lightning speed and unresolved.

So this is my second collection, An Amish Gift was my first, by this group of authors and it will likely be my last. There are 2 versions of this book, one with 3 stories [without Ruth Reid] and one with 4, I have the version with 4 stories. I didn't love any of the stories. It's probably just me, I'm familiar with short stories but these didn't feel developed enough. The first story was the best one and for me, it wasn't great. It could be me dealing with different styles of writing, but I read other books and only read the last two stories back-to-back. All four stories are available as novellas. I've read them before, so I know they can do better. Amy Clipston shined with Naomi's Gift, and I enjoy A July Bride by Beth Wiseman. I think Ruth Reid and Kelly Irvin just aren't for me but I enjoy their stories from An Amish Christmas Gift more than the ones here, but still not 3 stars.

Recommend to others?: Maybe. I didn't find any gems here, but you might. I recommend this collection for someone who enjoys Amish Fiction and is looking for new authors.

An Amish Christmas Love ~ Four Novellas by Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin, and Ruth Reid, © 2017

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman
    ~*~
You are going to love these characters! Feisty mammi who goes to the library to check out people on the Internet; her widowed daughter-in-law who finds love again; and her granddaughter who discovers first love. All wrapped up in Christmas and our Love born among men. How grateful I am.

Wayne was easily my favorite character. He went beyond himself to care for another and have Truth exposed. And this is only Novella number one! A treasure to behold. This story alone shouts, "Christmas gift."

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston
    ~*~
Come and meet a golden-orange cat with a golden heart. Nudged anew, Emma finds love in an unsuspected place with a Christmas Eve visit.

I especially like her "now and then" inspired memories refreshed by the gathering of young friends; so important to mingle together to restore life and hope. Each generation is warmed by the value of each other in experiencing and remembrance!

Katie Ann became my favorite character with her gentle caring ways and regard for her brother.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
    --Romans 15:13

A Christmastime to remember of new beginnings.

    Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin
    ~*~
    Bee County, South Texas

    Forget the former things;
Do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
    --Isaiah 43:18-19

Back to Bee County! Have you met these families from Kelly's previous writings? I have enJ*O*Yed "watching" the children grow up.

My husband talks to the TV quiet and low on football play determinations, whether it was in or out; I am talking out loud to a character warning him. Referee decision? lol

A beautiful story of redemption and being rescued by Truth. My favorite character was Molly, determining to be still and leave the decision with the Lord to lead. Releasing another to Him became more important than words that muddle and confuse with no substance. I hope there is a continuance to this story in the future.

Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid
    ~*~
An unfamiliar area, walking into the wrong house, Ellie and her prized dog, Lulu, are met by the neighbor and his young daughter ~ with awe, at least by Allison, and uncertainty in the eye of her father, Ezra. Directed to her original destination, Ellie has a few mishaps that eventually get straightened out. She finds that she isn't as self-reliant as she would like to think. While Ellie has labeled Ezra as decidedly a "cat person," Lulu has chosen Allison as the perfect playmate.

A beautiful story of coming home; home to family values, and a love left to find exactly where you left it. Over the years that Ellie and her mom had been gone, her Aenti Bonnie kept a Prayer Journal that included Ellie; a heritage left just for her.

The warmth of love brings more than security, but a lifetime to discover. I really enjoyed this story and it rounds up these Novellas very satisfactory! I liked the communication and openness exposing the heart's intent. To be known as you are. So in this Novella ~ I would point to all of the characters. Favorites each one!

***Thank you to author Kelly Irvin for sending me a copy of this wonderful selection of novellas! This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.***

Four authors came together to write sweet, romantic stories that were set during the Christmas holidays and featured Amish characters. Each story is separate and is tied with the others by the theme. The novellas will give new readers a taste of the author's writing style and a glimpse into what Amish fiction is like. Readers who have already enjoyed these authors will love the short, but good stories that are written by authors they love.

There were three stories that I really enjoyed and one that was just okay. I'll admit, I'm not a fan of full length bonnet fiction. But I can take it in small doses and I LOVE novellas, which is why I wanted to try this book out. Three of the stories felt well done for the short amount of space a novella gives. The other one needed a bit more fleshing out. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and am glad that I chose to read it. These stories are clean, sweet, romantic, and heartwarming. The authors did a great job of including the various aspects of faith and the Amish traditions.

I received a copy of this book from BookLook Bloggers. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Winter Kisses (Beth Wiseman) - 2 stars

Instalove x 2 + an annoying grandmother + didn’t seem authentically Amish (using a cell phone and modern slang) = not my favorite in the collection.

The Christmas Cat (Amy Clipston) - 4 stars

I read this one last year and I thought it was really sweet and cute. I also enjoyed it as a reread. I felt bad for Emma, but I loved how good her neighbors were to her, and I loved her kitty.

Snow Angels (Kelly Irvin) - 2 stars

I haven’t read the connecting series, but I didn’t care for this story. I didn’t like how wishywashy David was about his feelings, and he seemed to lead both girls on at times. Molly had a lot of jealousy and she and David didn’t seem compatible to me.

Home for Christmas (Ruth Reid) - 3.5 stars

Definitely my second favorite after the Amy Clipston story. I enjoyed this one a lot. The romance was really sweet and I loved the dog Lulu (such a cute name!).

All in all, a very heartwarming collection of novellas that are perfect for the Christmas season.

  • Vicky Sluiter

A great collection of enjoyable Christmas stories that enthusiasts of Amish fiction will thoroughly love!

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman
Such a sweet, fun story of romance for three generations of women! With some cute comedy thrown in for enjoyment, this entertaining Christmas story about healing and love after heart break is worth the read. As always, Beth Wiseman does a great job writing wonderful characters that you’ll love!

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston
Amy Clipston can always be depended on to give us a great story, and this one is no different. The endearing characters in this book will give you that warm Christmas feeling, as Emma deals with her loss and discovers that friendship comes in all shapes and forms.

    Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin
We can’t always run from our past, and author Kelly Irvin does a wonderful job of showing us that, as well as showing us that the past can be forgiven and we can move on. You’ll find yourself rooting for Molly and shaking your head at David. But hang in there. The ending is worth it!

Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid
This incredible story has a lot of substance and includes the tough subject of a child prone to seizures. Author Ruth Reid doesn’t try to “hide” that subject but faces it squarely. A series of mix ups as well as twists and turns gives this story a “what next” quality that made it hard to put down.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Winter Kisses: This was a cute story. I liked the characters and the story. The ending was sweet.

The Christmas Cat: This was a nice story. I liked the past story more than the present story. The past was bittersweet, and the present was sweet.

Home for Christmas: I went back and forth with this one, but the ending won me over.

    2 stars:
Snow Angels: I liked that this revisited the setting and characters of The Amish of Bee County series. I didn't like this story, though. It was the ending that wrecked it.

An Amish Christmas Love is another anthology of novellas from publisher Thomas Nelson & Zondervan Fiction. Like the other Amish collections, this one compiles four stories from four different authors. If you're a fan of Amish fiction, authors Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin and Ruth Reid are familiar names. With the theme of Christmas in the background, we can expect the warmth that is simultaneous with the season.

In Beth Wiseman's Winter Kisses, it is so endearing to see how three generations of the Stolfuz women live together under one roof, and find love with the help of each other. Ruth is just hilarious. I don't know what to expect from this grandma figure who also happens to be quite forward in her romantic ways, but her story was the one I was most keenly interested in because of it. LOL.

Amy Clipston's stories have always captured my heart with its emotional connection with life's mundane. And in The Christmas Cat, a connection with a feline friend led to happy memories. It was just so heartwarming to see Hank the Cat soothe Emma's heart during her first Christmas without her husband of 45 years. How the youngsters in the community took time to be with Emma so she won't be alone was also sweet. There's something special about reminiscing the moments in your love story.

"May you discover a wealth of faith and the power of God. . . . Prayer is a powerful too. Not everything you ask will be answered immediately, but know God is listening. His Word is without void." (Home for Christmas)

Next we have Kelly Irvin's Snow Angels, which brings in the trepidation of what it means to be "equally yoke" between the Englisch and the Amish. In all honesty, I was quite annoyed with David. It's one thing to be unsure of your feelings, but to string along two girls, and let things go far, it's just not right. Despite that, Molly's character is a highlight, and it's quite nice to know her in this story.

And finally, but not least, Ruth Reid's Home for Christmas connects with me. I just love the involvement of Lulu, the dog that shone throughout the story. Her connection with Allison was endearing. Her resolve to protect her was just outright tear-worthy. As a proud pup mom myself, I just love this portrayal of a dog in a story that have quite the substance, and debunking the misunderstanding of the beautiful companionship of a canine family member.

In all, An Amish Christmas Love Novella Collection brought together family in time for the most magical season of the year. Heartwarming, sweet and definitely a time to share, it's a collection worthy to be read.

I love books that have several authors stories in them. Readers get to read stories from amazing authors all tucked into a great collection. Each story follows a theme while highlighting each authors creativity. Their writing style may be different but the stories are always a treat to read. This collection is an example of four authors that write beautifully , emotionally and loved filled stories that satisfy their fans.

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman

I loved this story because it has humor, family , faith and love sprinkled throughout. How fun it was to see three men move into the daaadi house on the land where three women live. I laughed as the women spied on their new neighbors. Barbara has gone through a hard time after losing her beloved husband . It is hard for her to even think about another man, but maybe God has other plans. My favorite character was Ruth. She is fiesty, confrontational at times but loves her family dearly. Ruth has her sights on one of the men and it is so endearing to watch their relationship grow. Naomi is the youngest and the other two women think it's time to get her married. One of the funnies things in the book is when one character says, "You aren't the boss of me." The story is funny at times, and emotional at others. The author really does a great job of developing characters that readers can invest in. Will love be in the air at Christmas for these three lovely ladies?

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston

Oh my what an emotional love story . I cried through the entire story. Emma is the sweetest person and my heart was heavy for her. She is spending Christmas all alone because the snow is so deep she is afraid to get out in it. Will her friends worry when she doesn't show up for dinner? The love of her life passed away several months ago. They had a great marriage with a few disappointments along the way. Emma is so lonely and knows it will be a hard time for her as she spends her first Christmas without her beloved. A stray cat appears on her back porch and decides to make himself at home. I loved how he strutted in like he had always lived there.

I loved when friends came over to be with Emma on Christmas. As she began to tell her story of her and Henry, I felt like we had traveled back in time. The author does an outstanding job of transforming us back to when Henry and Emma were first married. Their story is so heartwarming and a true romance. I loved how he gifted her with books because he knew how much she loved to read. This story is one that just makes you feel good inside. Hank the cat as Emma calls him, steals the show at times. He can sense when Emma is sad and goes to her side. Her guests are full of cheer and help Emma spend Christmas with happy memories.

    Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin

The story is set in Bee County, Texas which I was just talking about to my husband. I loved how the author talked about how it hardly snows there. Living in south Texas we don't really know what snow is. I thought that Molly was a great character. She is in love with David and is looking forward to being his wife. But sometimes things don't always work out like we plan. When Molly and David are at an auction, David comes face to face with his past. I can just imagine his heart racing a mile a minute when he sees Bobbie , his girlfriend that left him. She is the last person David thought he would ever see again.

David at one time was in love with Bobbie but chose not to marry her. His faith and family were to important to him. With Bobbie not being Amish, he couldn't walk away from his faith. Molly knows Bobbie has come back to help her ill father, but does she have another agenda as well? I loved how the author showed the turmoil David was going through as he decides who he wants to be with. He knows in his heart what he wants, but will temptation win out? I loved the way Molly trusted God to make all things work out. Will David find comfort in God? This is a great story about trust and listening to God.

Home For Christmas by Ruth Reid

This story grabbed my attention right away when it talked about dog competitions. I love watching the dog shows on TV and try to never miss the Westminister Competition. Lulu sounded like a beautiful dog with maybe a bit of an attitude. Lulu had just won Best of Breed as a standard poodle and was loving the attention. My what a diva she was. Ellie was having a great time at competitions showing her dog. Ellie decides to get in her RV and visit her aunts farm in Posen, Michigan.

Ellie is relying on her GPS to get her there safely. I have had a few encounters with GPS . I'm not a big fan of them and I think they intentionally get me lost. Since Ellie hasn't seen the farm since she inherited it , she wasn't to surprised that it looked a little different than she remembered. Waiting inside the house will be a big shock for Ellie. Why is there a man standing inside the door? I guess the silly GPS directed her to the wrong place. Ezra explained that she needed to travel a bit more down the road to her aunts place. Poor Ellie isn't making a great impression when she wipes out Ezra's clothesline.

Ellie and Ezra seem to clash over many things including Lulu. Ezra's daughter has taken a real liking to Lulu but Ezra is convinced that the dog should not be around his daughter. Ezra has had a hard time raising his daughter after his wife passed away. Allison has had seizures but Ezra thought they were under control with medication. When Allison starts having seizures when Lulu is around, he is convinced that Lulu is causing them. I really liked the devotion that Lulu had towards Allison. If only Ellie and Ezra could get past their differences, maybe they could have a friendship. The story is filled with emotion and I think Lulu was the star. The dog is very special as Ellie and Ezra find out.

I received a copy of this book from several of the authors. The review is my own opinion.

I couldn’t be more excited to read this collection of heart warming, holiday inspired stories. I have enjoyed reading many books by each of the authors and was pleasantly surprised how each of their novellas in this collection turned out.

Hands down my personal favorite came in the form of a story with a furry companion. A sweet little cat in need of a home. How does this animal lover and book lover not love such a combination? Amy Clipston has never failed me as an author with how her stories touch my heart and this one was by far the dearest to me. It touched a memory in me that I had forgotten but it is amazing what a shelter seeking critter can do.

If you are wanting a Holiday collection that we’ll have you ready for the real meaning of the season and ready to share your heart, this collection is just right for you.
If you need a gentle reminder about love and kindness, and are will to look in a collection that may be new to you. I highly suggest reading this collection.

I loved each of these stories, but I have a weakness for cats, so I would have to say that I was absolutely charmed by The Christmas Cat. Who knew that cats liked brownies?

    Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman
Three generations of Stoltzfus women are all living under the same roof. At twenty-five, Naomi has never been married, and both her mother, Barbara, and her grandmother, Ruth, have recently been widowed. Each nursing broken or lonely hearts, they also each have potential suitors. When a storm on Christmas Eve forces the three couples to take shelter in the basement of the Stotlzfus homestead, secrets are revealed, hearts are opened, and all three potential grooms drop to their knees for very different reasons a proposal, a prayer, and an epiphany.

My thoughts:  I liked the characters in Winter Kisses and the close-knit relationship the ladies had.   My favorite of the three is Ruth. I loved her stubbornness and her flirtatiousness.  She added some  lightness to the story. The three gentlemen that rent the  daadi haus brought added income and friendship.   Overall, I enjoyed this novella quite a lot.  If this had been a full length novel, I think I would have liked even more,  I would have liked a less hurried ending,

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston
Emma Bontrager is spending her first Christmas alone after her husband of 45 years, Henry, passed away in July. Although the Amish don t normally allow animals in their homes, a big, fat, orange barn cat keeps coming into Emma s house. She shoos the cat away, but it continues to appear in her house, settling on Henry s favorite wingchair. But the cat isn t the only Christmas visitor: a group of young people help bring the Christmas spirit to Emma, reminding her that love and hope abide.

My thoughts:  The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston is absolutely my favorite in this collection!  I think she captured the very essence of Christmas. The season is reflected perfectly by welcoming a stranger (in this case, a cat) into your home and providing warmth and comfort.  I loved Emma and I could imagine how she must feel spending her first Christmas without Henry.  It's always difficult spending time without your loved one, no matter what time of year it is.  To keep the spirit of giving and sharing, four young people surprise Emma with a much-needed visit and dinner.  I promise that if you read this novella, you will not be disappointed and you'll feel the true meaning of the holiday season.
    Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin

As a young man enjoying his rumspringa, David Byler gave his heart to an Englisch girl, but he eventually realized he couldn t give up his Plain faith and family for her, so he let her go. He s found a new love in his Bee County Plain community, Molly Shrock. Molly has been patient, waiting for the man she loves to love her back. Just as he is ready to propose, David makes a startling discover: Bobbie McGregor, his Englisch love, is back. Will Molly s prayers for a Christmas love be answered?

My thoughts: It took me awhile to get interested in Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin, but as I kept reading, I started to enjoy it more than I thought I would.  I liked Molly and of course, I liked Lupe and Diego from the other Bee County books.

My thoughts:  Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid was my second favorite in this collection. I loved the characters, although I had a special fondness for Allison.  I loved that precious little girl so much.   Ellie and Ezra were very  entertaining at times and I liked both of them equally.   I found the subject matter very interesting and I think that anyone reading this novella will agree.

This is a definitely a keeper and I will read it again during the Christmas Holidays.  I highly recommend this one to fans of Amish and Christian fiction.  It would make a great gift, too.
I received a free copy and was not required to write a positive review.  All opinions are my own.

Ever since discovering Beverly Lewis' books when I was a young teenager, I've always loved inspirational Amish fiction. The Amish culture is something I was never really familiar with before that, but I've come to really appreciate their culture through the beautiful books I've read about it. As well, anyone who knows me knows that I'm completely Christmas crazy, and I'll honestly read Christmas themed books at any time of the year, even in the crazy heat of summer like was the case with this one. So needless to say, when I found this book on Netgalley, the fact that it's a Christmas inspirational novella collection about the Amish culture, had me beyond belief excited to jump right into it, and I was pleasantly surprised by these beautiful stories about second chances, finding love, the importance of friendship, and relying on our Heavenly Father and faith through Him despite any obstacles thrown our way.

This book contains four separate novellas that don't connect to each other, and I'm going to quickly talk about each, and say which ones were my favorites.

The first story is Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman, and this one focuses on three Amish women, and the home they've made for themselves together. Ruth, who's living with her daughter in law and granddaughter after the passing of both her beloved husband and son, Barbara; who often finds her mother in law trying her patience, and has never been herself after the loss of her husband, and Naomi; who's hesitant to ever fall in love after seeing how much the loss of love has affected her mother and grandmother. Their world changes in ways they never expect when three Amish gentlemen rent the daadi haus on their property, and soon each woman is questioning which direction God is telling them to go. This was definitely one of my favorites in the collection, as I really adored Naomi's character and her hesitancy to fall in love. Plus Ruth's antics definitely had me smiling and laughing throughout the story, and the connection between these three generation of women was beautifully told.

The Christmas Cat Amy Clipston was definitely my favorite of all the stories. This one focuses on an elderly Amish woman named Emma, who's spending her first Christmas alone since the death of her husband. Her and her beloved Henry always wanted children, but they were never blessed with any, and she's left feeling like she's all alone in the world. On Christmas Eve a stray cat finds its way to her porch, and soon she finds herself appreciating the companionship that's been sent her way in this furry creature. Younger members of the community decide to stop by and pay her a visit, and between visiting with the younger generation, and reminiscing about the beautiful marriage she shared with Henry, Emma comes to realize God's abounding love for her, and I can't recommend this beautiful story enough.

Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin was definitely my least favorite of this particular collection. It focuses on a young Amish man named David, who's been courting a lovely young girl named Molly, and its obvious to everyone that she's fallen head over heels for him. However, a blast from his past sets everything spiraling out of control, when the Englisch girl he pledged his heart to during his Rumspringa reappears, and states she still has feelings for him. While I did still enjoy this story overall, I really couldn't stand the way that David treated Molly for most of it, but I did love the sweet event that inspired the name for the story, and I really admired Molly's strong character, and her devotion to her faith.

Home For Christmas by Ruth Reid tells the story of Ellie, a dog trainer who's come back to her Amish roots she doesn't remember from childhood, after her beloved aunt passes away, and deeds her property to her. Ellie soon finds herself immersed in the Amish culture, and the welcoming way they make her feel. Her handsome next door neighbor, and his delightful daughter might also have something to do with it. Ellie's finally starting to wonder if this is the place she could truly belong, but could her heart truly reside somewhere that's been so different from anything she's ever known. This was another delightful Christmas tale, and I loved the fact that it was about an Englischer returning to her roots.

All in all, I completely adored this beautiful novella collection, and the way it emphasized the true reason for the season. I hadn't personally read anything else by any of these authors, but I definitely hope to change that in the future. I gave this one four out of five stars, and I hope come this holiday season that you'll all take a chance on this endearing novella collection that reminds us all of of what's truly important: family, friendship, love, and a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father.

I rated this one four out of five stars, and I'm so thankful to Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to have read this :)

    My Review:

    Winter Kisses

I loved the dynamic between the three generations of Stoltzfus women. Especially that of Ruth, she is a spitfire and she doesn't care who knows it. I love that she gives advice and doesn't really care if her daughter in law wants any of it. This story is not your typical Amish romance but this deserves a spot on the to be read pile. I like how the author separates the women but in the end brings them together again.

    The Christmas Cat

What a sweet story of Emma and Henry. They thought nothing could separate them until Henry's death. But little does Emma know Henry may be closer than she thinks or even wants to realize. Throughout the story you get glimpses of Emma and Henry's love story and it is a way to get to know the both of them when Henry was still with Emma. Hank the cat and the other characters that play into Emma's life are a great touch to the story.

    Snow Angels

Wow, this story had me mixed up. Poor Molly, she cant catch a break. I keep hoping and praying that David will get his craziness straight and even steadily through the book it seems he doesn't. Love, true love, a tried and true love--thats the kind you can't walk away from. I'm not sure which one of these characters need to realize this first--maybe David. He is teetering in two girls' lives and I wanted to strangle him to be honest. The story was a good one because the best stories seem real and this one definitely did that for me.

    Home for Christmas

This story is like most of the author's stories. She has a down home country feel to everything she writes--similar to the feeling comfort gives you. She writes things that lead back to sweetness and simplicity. I really enjoyed the stories. A great way to start the holiday season--with my Amish fiction.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.

An Amish Christmas Love contains four novellas centered around Christmas by Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Ruth Reid and Kelly Irvin. Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman is set in December in a snowy Lancaster County. Naomi Stoltz lives with her mother, Barbara and grandmother, Ruth in the main house on their farm. They have just rented out the daadi haus to Amish construction workers who will be in the area for a month. When Ruth notices that the three gentlemen are in similar age to the three women, she is hoping cupid’s arrow will strike. Barbara has been a widow for three years and it is time for her to move on (at least in Ruth’s opinion). Ruth has been looking for the right man since she lost her husband and it is past time for Naomi to marry (according to Ruth). Will these three women get their happily ever after this Christmas?

The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston takes us to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania. Emma Bontrager is a little sad this Christmas as it is the first one she has experienced alone in forty-five years. Her husband, Henry passed away during the summer. Emma was invited to the Blank house for dinner, but, with the heavy snow, she feels it would not be safe to venture out. Emma is heading inside when she notices an orange tabby cat on her porch. She tries to shoo the fellow away, but instead he ends up inside and resting comfortably in Henry’s chair. Katie Ann Blank is worried when Emma does not arrive for dinner and did not leave a message. Ephraim, Katie Ann’s brother, and Katie Ann (along with two friends) decide to visit Emma and bring her some Christmas cheer.

Kelly Irvin’s Snow Angels returns readers to her Bee County Amish series. David Byler has been courting Molly Shrock for the last year. Molly is hoping that David will soon become baptized and then propose to her. David and Molly are at a local auction when David sees his old Englisch girlfriend, Bobbie McGregor. Bobbie’s father has become ill and she is needed to help run their ranch. David has been in love with Bobbie, but he could not leave his community and his faith. Seeing her now brings back his feeling for Bobbie. She has not stopped loving him. David needs to make a choice about his future. Will David jump the fence or become baptized and propose to Molly this Christmas?

Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid takes us to Posen, Michigan. Ellie Whetstone is a dog handler who travels the country visiting dog shows in her RV. She is visiting Posen to visit the house she inherited from her aunt, Bonnie Whetstone and get it ready to sell. Ellie follow the directions from the GPS and finds a small farmhouse. She soon discovers that she is at the wrong property when Ezra Mast returns home with his daughter, Allison. Allison instantly falls in love with Lulu, a three-year-old Standard Poodle much to her father’s consternation. A series of unfortunate events keep putting Ellie and Ezra in each other’s path. When an accident takes Ellie away, Ezra fears he has seen the last of her. Is there a chance for love between the Englischer and the Amish gentleman?

An Amish Christmas Love contains four lovely, heartwarming stories. They are about love, faith, hope, trust, power of prayer, friendship, trusting in God’s path for our lives, and the magic of Christmas. My favorite story is The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston. It is such a sweet story and I enjoyed the antics of the orange tabby that Emma names Hank. I like how the author reveals Emma’s history with her husband and how much they loved each other. Winter Kisses is humorous thanks to Ruth (she is a lively character). Snow Angels had a slower pace than the others and it ties into Kelly Irvin’s existing Bee County Amish series (can be standalone). I am rating An Amish Christmas Love 4 out of 5 stars. The four stories are well-written and enjoyable to read. I liked the life lessons presented in each story. An Amish Christmas Love is the perfect escape novel.
