Dan Reno has a serious dislike for violent criminals.

Though he wouldn't concede this point, Reno probably lost any chance at a normal life after his father was killed by a point-blank shotgun blast. At thirteen years old, Reno was left to draw conclusions on a world that paroled society’s worst criminals and set them free to maim and kill.

    Good

They are good enough to keep reading. Thanks, Dave. Good, fun, humorous, exciting, suspenefull, short enough, long enough, and so is this review.

    Dying for the Highlife
This is turning into a marathon read
Book 2 of the Dan Reno series finds our hero has relocated from San Jose to S. Lake Tahoe, but his penchant for finding bodies has not been lost in the move. Hired by a step mother to find her missing stepson seems like such an easy job for P.I. Reno, but little does he know there’s so much more to the story. Fast moving, hard driving, and heavy hitting, Reno doesn’t back down until he finds the truth. Friend Cody comes back to join Dan in the search for what really happened to Jimmy. Stanton’s characters Dan and Cody are fascinating and I find I am now very eager to get started on book 3, included in the box set of books 2 through 4.

    Speed Metal Blues
Book 3 is even more complex
Drug dealing, Nevada casinos and bordellos, and the local Mob who control both; throw in a couple of violent rapists and Reno has his hands full. Are Dan Reno and Cody Gibbons in over their heads in this one? The development of friendship between Reno and the local Sheriff adds an interesting twist to this fast paced mystery of murder and mayhem. And to top it off, Reno actually has a girlfriend Candi, who I do hope returns as a regular character. I’m becoming very fond of Dan Reno as each story unfolds and find myself finishing one book and immediately opening the next. I hope Stanton doesn’t run out of ideas any time soon.

    Dark Ice
Bodies and Bikers just keep piling up in the snow
I’m not a fan of cold weather, but Stanton’s details descriptions of the beautiful scenery around Lake Tahoe makes me feel as if I’m right in the middle of the story. But if I took an early morning ski run and ran over a body, I think I’d make an immediate exit. However, Reno is determined to follow his gut to find out who is responsible. Plus, he now has a girlfriend and she’s moved in. He seems to have found in Candi, a love interest who isn’t terribly intimidated by his rough guy outside, or by the criminal element that so often intrudes on their life together. And as we’ve come to expect, Cody absolutely has to join the chase which keeps things hopping. Another great plot in a fantastic series.

    Hard Prejudice
Things Not Always as they Appear
I was not expecting the twists and turns this fifth in the Dan Reno series took. The pace was such I sometimes felt I needed a spreadsheet just to keep track of who was involved in what. But when you have Dan and Cody on the chase for the truth, you never know what will fall into your lap. A plot that started in one direction then spun off into another and yet never lost momentum is what makes a good story, and Stanton never lets you down. I’ve come to the end of the series with the teaser that there’s another one in the development stage. I hope Stanton releases his next book shortly because I’m not sure how long I can stand the Dan Reno withdrawal pains.
