  The Great Wall of China was very important for the city. The walls started to be built in the 4000 B.C. .People used the walls to protect their harverst and themselves. The emperor Wu Di extended the Great Wall to protect trade along the Silk Road. During the construction of the Great Wall, "At each signal station let the towers be built higher and stronger; within must be laid up food, fuel, medicine, and weapons for four moons" (Dutemple 57). After the battles the great wall is rebuilt by the ming dynasty. When the emperor Wanli rules is used as a defensive border against other empires. Parts of the Great Wall are destroyed but in 1984 Deng orders restoration of it.
  
    The Great Wall brought many contributions to China. The Great Wall protected the citizens as well as it lands. Also the trade increased and people protected their crops. Also emperors use the wall in battles which made their oponents more difficult to conquer them. The Great wall lead them to many achievements. One of the achievements was that it helped them wining battles. In battles they prepared the wall with food, medicine and weapons to fight. Many emperors conquered the city and it's great walls. Emerors rebuilt the walls after battles because they new they will need them to protect the city and citizens.
  
    The Great Wall of China by Lesley A. Dutemple is a very interesting book. Lesley teaches the readers about the construction of the Great Walls. Also about the battles that happen between the walls and who conquered the city with time periods. This book will be perfect for someone that wants to learn about their culture. Also if a student has a project about China, the student could use the book for more information. The Great Wall of China would be recomended to middle school students and high school students as well. Lesley made a book that does not have  complicated words. The book would not be recomended to lower schoolers because students would get bored reading the story. Also if the student looks for a challenge to read or looking for new vocabulary words, this book would not be recomended.

  This is a terrific history book for grade school kids, and it's not just about the Great Wall.
  
  There's a fair amount of history wrapped up in the construction, abandonment, deconstruction, and reconstruction of China's Great Wall, and this author does a really good job pulling in the necessary elements without overburdening it with general history. Even unpleasant historical events are related without judgement or cultural bias. In addition to the history of the wall and Chinese culture during the various periods of wall construction, this also includes engineering information on wall construction. The writing does a pretty good job engaging readers and maintaining interest. The photos and illustrations are helpful and add substantively.
  
  While definitely a higher reading level than
  Ancient China: Beyond the Great Wall by Kathleen W. Deady, this is, by far, the superior book. For younger kids, or more basic introduction to Chinese history, I'd recommend starting with
  DK Eyewitness Books: Ancient China.

  Another good one Barnes & Noble won't carry. Good reference source for self-starting researchers in middle school or high school.
