Brenda Bennett is not happy in her current relationship & has decided it is time to end it with Colton. She meets him at the dog park where she finds him arguing with another dog owner over his lack of control over his dog. When Brenda tries to sooth the situation, Colton ends up embarrassing her in front of this perfect stranger & she puts an end to everything with him right then & there. The other dog owner, Robert Mollenkmp, asks Brenda if she is ok & they begin to talk & walk their dogs. Robert has a magical connection with dogs, he is older, smart, sexy & very good looking. Brenda is immediately attracted to him & he is to her. When it is time for them to go their separate ways, Roberts tells Brenda he would like to see her again & asks for her phone number. They have an easy rapport & their affection for one another blossoms. Brenda has been saving herself for the 'right' man & her overwhelming need for Robert tells her he is the one. Just when everything is falling into place, Robert has an unexpected visit from his sheltered ex-wife. She has suffered an enormous lose & has no one to turn to but Robert. Will Brenda be willing to accept this other woman presence? How close are Robert & his ex-wife? Are what Brenda & Robert experiencing meant to be?

This short younger woman/older man romance has a lot of charm. The characters are perfect together & their love for dogs was a big plus for me. I enjoyed the writing style & especially liked that Robert wanted to take things slow but Brenda wanted to move it along already. And once things move along they get really steamy & hot. I will be looking to read more from this author soon! This book is meant for mature readers.

What a great novel to follow My Bestie's Older Brother. I loved that Brenda got her HEA. While this book kept me entertained enough, I was a bit disappointed that the characters didn't have a more thrilling conflict. Valriss wasn't threatening enough in my opinion.

All in all a great book. Especially if you are a dog lover. The dogs cracked me up.

DNF 65%. I think I've read enough of this one. It isn't terrible, just not great and I'm bored with it so moving on. . .

Light and sexy, older man/younger woman romance. Instant attraction at the dog park leads to something more for Brenda and Rob.

The relationships not only between Rob and Brenda, but between them and the dogs were so descriptive and well-written. I really liked how the dogs were their own characters.

Fun, steamy love story with a crazy ex-wife, some funny dogs and a sweet new couple finding their way together.

HEA. Standalone. No cliffhanger. No cheating.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.

I have never read any of Kate Gilead’s books and I’m sure glad I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book. You will not be disappointed and I will be reading more of her books. All the characters, from Brenda & Rob, to their ex’s, Brenda’s parents, friends and brother, even the dogs are very well described and fit well into the story.
Brenda is on her way to the dog park to break up with her boyfriend but he is being such a jerk that it happens in front of a sexy handsome stranger. A stranger she wants to know more about even tho she just got out of one relationship. Her jerk of ex-boyfriend even leaves his dog there as well, so now she has his dog to find a home for because she doesn’t think her parents will let her keep him.
Robert “Rob” thinks it’s strange that Brenda’s boyfriend would be so childish and announce that he was fine with the break up because she didn’t put you but finds out she is in fact a virgin, (but that is down the road after several dates in the dog park and one dinner date.) Brenda goes and helps Rob unpack boxes in his house that he has been living in for a few weeks and the night is perfect. The night she had been waiting for, the night that she is finally going to lose her virginity. After some hot and steamy sex, Brenda is prepared to spending the night with Rob but cockblock #1 happens. His ex-wife has been texting all night but Rob was ignoring his phone, and she is outside his door banging loudly.
Then after several weeks and with Rob’s ex-wife still at his house, yea I know that you must read to find out about, they are at Brenda’s parents’ house, yep she still living with her parents at 21 they are away in Florida. Then cock block #2 happens, yes Brenda’s parents come home early. They spend time talking with her parents and Rob decides to go back home.
Well you will just have to find out what happens with why Robs ex-wife is still at his house after two weeks, and what Brenda’s parents think of her dating a man seventeen years older than her, with an ex-wife at his house. Do Brenda and Rob get a whole night alone without any interruptions? What happens to the ex-boyfriend’s dog? All those questions and more will be answered along the way. Great book.

Brenda is at loose ends. Her best friend is now paired-up with her older brother and is now pregnant. Her parents are down in Florida. She has just realized that even though her boyfriend is gorgeous and rich, she has no desire to spend time with him any more. She goes to meet him at the dog park and he is such a big jerk and mean to his dog, she breaks up with him right there. Robert was a witness to the scene and he is happy that Brenda is now available. Robert is an older man and he makes Brenda hot just looking at him. He is also very kind and wonderful with dogs.
Robert is attracted to the young lady at the park. He sees that her boyfriend is a jerk and he is happy to step in when their relationship ends. Robert is a fireman who went to school with her much older brother and his family was close to her family in her childhood. Brenda enjoys Robert so much , she decides to give him her virginity. They have a very passionate encounter but right afterwards, her ex-wife shows up very upset.
This is a good story with plenty of steam and passion. There is lots of love and I loved the dogs. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

This is a sweet and funny romance of an older man, younger virgin relationship.

    Love at the Dog Park

This is Kate Gilead's 2nd book and it's part of a series yet completely standalone. Kate has such a talent for writing passionate, sexy romance. Her characters are wonderfully written. As an animal lover (especially dogs), I love how she includes dogs and their everyday interactions in her stories.
Brenda ends up breaking up with her boyfriend at the dog park in front of Rob, a totally hot stranger, that she is having an intense sexual attraction to. Feeling incredibly embarrassed about it, Brenda wants to leave but instead ends up not only talking to Rob but also exchanging phone numbers with him. They decide they want to get to know each other better and begin "dating". Just after the first time Rob and Brenda are intimate, Rob's past shows up at his front door, threatening to destroy their new relationship.
Can they survive an emotional intrusion of this magnitude?

This was actually a very cute and sexy story, I loved Brenda and Rob together, Brenda is 21 and a recent graduate from college, She is going to meet her soon to be ex at the dog park, she is taking princess pumpkinface and Her boyfriend Logan is already there with his dog Diesel a dog he got at the shelter just to impress her, a dog he doesnt even want, when Brenda sees him going off on another man and his dog Tiny that was just the final straw for her, After Logan storms off leaving Diesel with her Rob tells her he has a leash in his truck she can have for the dog, Brenda Rob and the dogs start walking and getting to know each other, They have an instant chemistry. I really loved this story, HOT HOT spicy scenes and I LOVED the puppies too lol

  • Viper Spaulding

    Wonderfully sexy romance!

I loved how this story was set up at the end of the previous book with Nick's sister, Brenda, adopting an adorable puppy. This story starts off with her meeting Rob at the dog park, and it was great to see that quite a bit of their romance incorporates their dogs.

These two hit it off instantly, but take their time getting to know each other. Rob is a great guy, one who's ready to settle down and knows what he wants. There's a bit of drama with a friend of his, and I loved how the author kept this drama from devolving into a clichéd misunderstanding of the situation. Theirs is a terrific love story, real and honest and heartwarming. The epilogue was fabulous with a nod to pet lovers everywhere.

This was a sweet and heartwarming romance. This is the first book that I have read from this author and it was amazing. The writing was good and the story just sucks you in. My only downfall was that Brenda did seem a bit childlike but she grew in the story. She wasn't like Val at all. Robert was such a gentleman but a freak in the sheets. If you love dogs, this story will touch you. You can tell how a person is with how they take care of their pets.

I voluntarily received a copy for my honest review.

  • Lori

These 2 characters were just an absolute hoot to me. Funny and sexy one minute, sweet and tenderly romantic in the next moment. Throw in a huge dog named Deisel and a recently trained giant of a dog along with a pampered pooch of Princess pumpkinface and you know it's a match made in Heaven. A really enjoyable read

  • Rose

Very enjoyable story with dogs! I really enjoyed this story. The Hero and Heroine meet with their dogs and she is very impressed by how good he is with the dogs. He is older than her, but that doesn't stop either of them from getting to know each other better. A bit of drama, but not too much. Great story and characters. Supporting characters are also well developed. Must read!

  • Kimkbries

When Brenda meets Rob, she is attracted to him. What will happen when he finds out she is a virgin? Throw in a crazy ex wife and you have a story I enjoyed reading. They had instant chemistry and the need to find a HEA.

  • Moriah

Robert and Brenda meet each other in the dog park and fall in love. This was such a nice, sweet story. The drama with the ex was a little weird, but who doesn't like a little drama thrown in now and again. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book

    Verdict: OK, Now What?

Robert and Brenda's story is a little ploddy, a bit...lacking, in a "big drama" sort of way. They actually read more like a couple you'd know in real life than a "romance novel couple," if that makes sense. But the biggest huh?" moment comes from realizing that some of the initial appeal of the book was the title, and it may be a letdown for some upon reading.

  • LaGina

Although this was a good read I just couldnt connect with the story or the character so it made me feel like I was missing something.

  • Lenna Wright

If you already read 'Her Bestie's Older Brother then you already know Brenda, Nick's baby sister and Amanda's BFF. Brenda always portrays as the party girl but she harbors a big secret even her bff doesn't know. I didn't have a problem with anything of the story but she didn't wait between the her ex and the new guy, nothing else was rushed by other then what a really horny 21 year old secret holder wants to do. And Robert has a conflict from his past show up unannounced with very close timing.

  • Elaine

Brenda and Robert are perfect for each other.
Even with crazy ex's and dogs that are even crazier.

  • Tracy

    DNF :(

  • Barrie Mac

This was a sweet and sometimes spicy read. Robert is an older man and has a way with all dogs. Brenda is a sweet girl who still has her V-card. She finds Robert HOT and is instantly attracted to him. She decides he's THE ONE. The drama comes in with Robert's ex-wife which was odd and could have been more exciting. This book was well-written but needed more.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Secret Virgin by Kate Gilead a not so secret five star read. It is a stand-alone sequel to Her best friends older brother, but you don’t have to read the first book to get this story. This is the first book by this author I have read, it was funny, sexy and overall a really good read. It’s doesn’t take its self too serious and just a fun story.
Brenda isn’t satisfied with life, she has a secret that she has kept for a very long time she has decided that she will finally do it… with her boyfriend Colton, but when she arrives at the dog park where they are meeting she finds him arguing with someone, and she realises that she can’t do it with him. Brenda has saved herself this long, why should she do it with someone who doesn’t deserve her.
When that someone turns out to be Rob, he’s sweet, smart and he’s got something about him, even the dogs listen to him. Brenda knows that he’s it. Rob checks on her and makes sure she is okay; they start talking, things develop and he wants to take things slowly as he comes with his own set of baggage, but slowly isn’t what Brenda wants, she has finally decided that she has waited this long, and she wants Rob and doesn’t want to wait. Who will win in the end? Or will the baggage be to much? Will they ever do it?

I really enjoyed this story. It has a light-hearted feel the whole time you read it. Brenda is 21 and she heads to the dog park where she runs into her boyfriend being a complete a**hole and so she breaks up with him. She was already planning to do so but it was just the final straw. She ends up talking to Rob, an older man, and they hit it off. (Rob was the man that her ex was being a jerk too.) Brenda ends up with her ex's dog as well, as he never really wanted it or took care of it. Rob and Brenda take their dogs for a walk and talk and start getting to know each other. They both feel the chemistry between them and Rob makes sure to get her number and ask her out on a date before they leave. I really enjoyed the banter and ease with which they handled the situation and each other. I loved their interactions and their dogs. Rob and Brenda have a hard time staying away from each other because of their feelings and how quickly they have grown. The relationship does move at a fast pace but it seemed to fit. They have to deal with a couple of things but nothing that really puts their relationship in jeopardy. The sex is explicit when it happens but their isn't very much of it in the story which makes sense was you start reading, (I don't want to spoil anything). The story kept me entertained and engaged the entire time.

This was another good story by this author. It was longer than her previous book and was about the best friend from the previous story (Older Brother’s Best Friend). I loved the main characters, Brenda and Rob, and the secondary characters of the three dogs (Princess Pumpkinface III, Diesel, and Tiny). I loved the first meeting and the development of their relationship. The writing flowed well and the dogs were a great addition to the story and provided the a little comic relief. Brenda was a strong woman and put up with a lot from a new relationship with Rob. Rob was a little soft in regards to his ex-wife, but was loving and caring with Brenda. I was a little thrown off; however, with the amount of the story that was spend on the selfish, immature, and completely irrelevant ex-wife. I felt like the story was more about the ex-wife and her drama with a little romance thrown in. Kate Gilead has become one of my go to authors (even with only two books under her belt), and I really liked this story, but I would have liked a little more depth for the main characters and less with the ex-wife. I received an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
