What a wonderful surprise LFL find. I love stories about wishes & consequences, and this is one of the best for modern children who are casual readers. I particularly liked the two bits of special kindness at the end.
Y'know what, I'm going to start a Listopia on the theme of Wishes and Consequences. Join me there if you know any other titles... I'm sure there are ones that I've forgotten, and perhaps ones that I've missed altogether. -
Hidup bersamamu. Menua, disisimu.
Iya. Mungkin itu yang akan aku minta.
Tapi bagaimana jika suatu hari mantranya memudar?

As You Turn Away berulang-ulang. -
I'll give this a 3.5 as a combo rating - 3 for me and 4 for my kids. They thought it was fun. We read it together over about a week's time. They enjoyed it. I thought it was cute. There was a good message in it and some fun antics, plus now my kids want a liophant. LOL Anyway, fun fast read as an easy chapter book for mid elementary age readers or as a family read-together book.

This was just an ok book for me, but my son loved the idea of a genie granting wishes. I liked how it explained that sometimes wishes backfire and the book requires children to think about the downfalls of a particular wish like being the strongest man alive, famous, etc.

This is the second book in the
Flat Stanley series by
Jeff Brown. We've heard a lot about Flat Stanley and have participated in a few school projects for both our girls and our niece, taking a "Flat Stanley" to places and photographing him against popular landmarks. So we thought we should check out the books in this series and so far we've liked the stories.
This was an interesting look at what would happen if our wishes came true. It's also a good story to explain why you should be careful what you wish for. The narrative is entertaining and the illustrations are interesting, even if the characters don't match the image we have for Stanley. Our girls really loved the liophant and we enjoyed reading this story together. -
Stanley discovers a genie in a lamp, with delightfully whimsical results: he gets a half-lion half-elephant pet called a Liophant; he flies, and Arthur gets super strength, and they foil a robbery; his mother becomes famous and his father magically good at tennis. Of course, it all gets too much for the Lambchops, especially Stanley’s mother, and everything is reversed in the end. It’s another fun story; I think some of Brown’s constructions and word choices are too complicated for kindergarteners to follow, but my class liked it even better than Flat Stanley.

Decent series, probably best for advanced younger students who need something a little more challenging but still age appropriate.

Really enjoyed this one! Even if Stanley isn't flat anymore. :)

I loved the idea of an "askit basket." Kind of like a portable, magical librarian.

Stanley returns but this time while on a day out Stanley comes a cross a lamp buried in the sand. When he finds it he decides to take it home as a present for his mother. When Stanley goes to clean it out comes a genie. At first Stanley uses it for simple things like for help with his homework. But when everyone's begins wishing for everything they want or what they want to change in their lives they realise everything they wanted doesn't turn out to be so great after all. This is a great book for children as it shows them they don't need everything in life to be happy. As they say "be careful what you wish for". Again the writing was simple and easy to understand. The story flowed along nicely. Overall I loved it and will be moving onto the next book very soon.

Looks like there are quite a few books in the series, this was the first one that I picked up randomly at the library. There's plenty in it for kids to enjoy from wishing for a Leophant (lion-elephant), to a magical solution to homework, to being flying superheroes and foiling robbers. Miss 3 listened to all of it but wasn't too fussed so we probably won't look for the others in the series.
-
The story is truly adventurous and humorous. I love the simplicity of the wording used. It's easy to read for anyone whose mother tongue isn't English. But most of all, I love how the author emphasized the importance of family and that it's ok for one to just be ordinary. Being famous has its own ups and downs.
-
A cute adventure for Flat Stanley and his family when he accidentally plans to give his mother a magic lamp for her birthday but decides to try and shine it first. Pretty predictable ending, and I'll never get over how much their parents don't listen or take anything seriously, but I think kids in the target age range will have a good time with this one.
-
I think this would be a fun series for kids to read! Lots of action and adventure and the characters are very silly and unique and interesting. Some black and white illustrations sprinkled throughout.
-
My son and I enjoyed reading this book! We always love books about Stanley. It was cute and had some good messages. It was interesting to me that Stanley is continuing to be normal. I thought he might be going back to being flat in this book.
-
Stanley finds a “teapot” that he plans to give to his mother, but when he begins to polish it up, a genie appears! It wasn’t a teapot, but a magic lamp!
Stanley makes some fun wishes for he and his family. But are wishes coming true always what we want? Sometimes they have consequences! -
The same awkward dialogue as the first, another adorkable plot.

Fun book to read with the kids!

Genie books are always fun. The chapters are kind of long in these books, so we have to break them up sometimes.

I loved this book because I love Stanley books. The author put a lot of time and effort into writing this book and the genie was so cool
