    I liked this book, because it gives you a lot of information in a very succinct manner. The point is to show how Japan was seen in foreign press in the times from opening untill the Russo-Japanese war. There are copius amounts of quotation, which makes the book a bit heavy from time to time, but they are essential for a study of Western perception of Japan.
