Rookie cop Kelly Jenkins thought that saving a terrified little boy from his abductors was the end of the story. It wasn’t. With the kidnappers on the loose and the child clinging to her as his “mommy,” Kelly is pulled into a world of wealth and privilege.
Arrogant, handsome billionaire Trey Wentworth is the boy’s father, and a pain in her working-class butt. Yet even as the threats against Trey and Kelly mount, attraction blazes between them. Leaving now would place them all in peril. But the longer she stays, the more Kelly risks losing herself—and her heart—in a world where she doesn’t belong.
The Bilionaires Son (The Rookie Files #1) Reviews

Kelley is a rookie cop who had a bad childhood with an alcoholic mother and a scumbag of stepfather who tried to rape her when she was young. She is also a very strong and kick-ass heroine who upon jogging one day, came across two men who had kidnapped & were chasing a 4 yr old child. The child (Jason), ran to her for help and called her "mommy". So the story begins with the h holding very tight to the child while using black belt kicks to disable the bad guys of the gun and thereby saves the child. She then later in the story catches that bad guys so hurray for having a strong h for once that I could respect.
Trey is a windowed (& divorced) billionaire with a child who is grieving for his dead mother and now after being kidnapped, his mind is "confused" as he thinks Kelly is his mommy because she looks exactly like his dead wife. He is also a billionaire who has no job other then to attend parties so that he is the "face" for his family business. It is never mentioned that he ever held any job either. That there turned me off immediately as I couldn't understand how he was a "billionaire" yet when he didn't have a job or any say how the family business was run.
So after Kelly saves his son's life and seeing how attached his son is to the woman who saved him, he asks her to move in temporarily to give his beloved child time to recover & remember because he is too traumatized between the kidnapping and his mother's death.
As the story progresses, H & h start to get close, but up until the last page, there is a reservedness of getting attached to one another and I felt that Kelley's "bond" with Jason was more out of duty then true love. Also, there was a mention by the media and h herself that she was the "replacement wife & mother" and that is how I felt throughout the book. I didn't buy into the romance or "love" as there were too many mentions on how much she looked like his dead wife and how different they were in terms of "class" (he rich, she not so much). So all in all, I did not really enjoy this book but maybe others will. -
First of the Rookie Files series, in which we meet rookie cop Kelly Jenkins who's minding her own business while jogging when a terrified little boy knocks her down, declaring she's his Mommy. What an introduction! Turns out the little boy was kidnapped and Kelly kicks the gun out of the hands of one of the perpetrators and threatens to arrest both men, but they race off.
The father of the child is the billionaire, Trey Wentworth, currently living on a private island. He has his hands full. Not only is his father starting to lose it, but the board of the Wentworth company wants Trey to be more than handsome window dressing for the company. However, to keep his father from terrorizing his mother, Trey has agreed to keep his hands off. Then his wife dies in an accident that might have killed his little boy, too. With the child now declaring that Kelly is his mother, Trey insists that Kelly move in to keep the child from becoming hysterical whenever she disappears.
But she has a career to think of and is convinced at first glance that she doesn't belong in the estate Trey maintains on the island. Furthermore, she's convinced that the kidnapping had inside help. How else could the child have been secreted off the island when a security firm checks everyone who comes onto the island?
As Kelly acts to calm the child, Trey becomes more and more attracted to Kelly, who initially refuses to accept his advances, but each step forward romantically is counterposed against threats to Kelly's life, to her career as a cop, and to Trey's relationship with his father. How it all works out places Kelly directly in the cross hairs of the kidnappers' attempt to take her down. -
I received this book in a giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. Trey Wentworth is billionaire single father to a four year old son, Jason. Jason is kidnapped. He forms an attachment to rookie cop, Kelly Jenkins. Due to a previous trauma and the kidnapping, Jason has convinced himself that Kelly is mother. Kelly reluctantly agrees to stay with Trey to help Jason, and catch the kidnappers. While staying with him, she finds herself falling for them. They both have to overcome their baggage to be together. This book has it all. It's filled with mystery, crime, betrayal, and love.

Sharon Hartley somehow finds the perfect balance between romance and suspense in this story. Kelly is thrust into a billionaires life after saving his son from kidnappers and together they slowly fall in love while figuring out who is behind the crime. I enjoyed that the romance progression remained realistic and kept the story intriguing. Bringing these two characters together by the end is wonderfully satisfying and I would definitely recommend this read.
