On April 20, 1888, the introduction of the sound to the depth of two inches was followed by excessive haemorrhage, which was not controlled by the positive pole in utero, the dose of 80° being given for five min utes. Patient remained in bed at the hospital for two days, then went home. She died of pneumonia May 20, 1888. There is no reason to suppose that the treatment was the cause of her death.
