That Terrible Halloween Night Reviews

Grandpa tells Louie and Mary Ann a story about a terrible Halloween night from when he was their age. This one had a fun ending that made me chuckle.

James Stevenson has a great sense of humor. This a really cute story and one that kids would like to read out loud to a grandparent. It's witty and clever and it even has monsters, pumpkins and some frogs. Yuck! The kids in this story try their very best to scare Grandpa, but they don't have much luck.

The illustrations are pretty basic and seem to be water colors. I recommend this story, especially if your child is an early reader

yes a 5 stars because I remember this book getting read to me during the month of oct(just one night because it isn't long) but i enjoyed it then. I enjoyed it now but this time it made me smile not scared me when I was a kid.

Jan 1,2024 a friend wanted me to read this book because he couldn't wait for Halloween. Here I am reading a Halloween book for New Years. What a year this will be. =)

This is a great children’s story with some funny parts and creepy twist ending. It stuck with me for a long time.

This was a cute tale about two children who are desperately trying to to scare their old grandpa on Halloween, but can't because the grandpa said he doesn't scare easily anymore ever since that terrible Halloween night. What happened on that night? Well, it's too horrible to mention in this review. I heard about this book from a child at the library I work at who said it was his favorite Halloween book. I thanked him for the terrific book recommendation. My rating - 4/5

Two children try to scare their grandfather on Halloween. He tells them about the scariest Halloween he experienced. Surprise funny ending.

Lots of fun to read aloud. Perfect for Halloween. Amusing.

A favorite of mine from childhood. I think it still holds up. It has all the elements of a great Halloween story: creepiness, a bizarre twist, and mustachioed children.

  • Peacegal

A grandpa tells his two grandkids about the scariest Halloween night he ever experienced. This is a clever, funny, and unique spooky story.

I used this in a Reader's Theater format I created a few years ago with 4th grade students. This year's group really got into creating character voices and did quite well when they had to do choral reading in some parts.

  • Sarah

I actually laughed out loud at this book. And I didn't just LOL. I mean I actually laughed. Out loud. It seems to suit my sense of humor perfectly.

  • Aaron

Read this as a kid. Still gives me chills.
