It's a really cute story about little Mulan and a useful one to get a glimpse at Chinese Lunar New Year's preparations and celebrations.
Really recommended for little boys and girls.

This book had beautiful art and friendly family vibes. It was really fun to learn about the Lunar New Year with Mulan's family. I read a few books about the Lunar New Year at the beginning of this year, and this was definitely one of the best.

I bought this for work without actually reading it first (maybe not the best idea, but you can't read everything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), but it turned out to be a winner, so yay! Love the art!! It's a bit text-heavy, but that works ok here.

The illustrations alone are breathtaking, brimming with life and affection, excellent use of shape and color, and varied, exciting compositions. The story is sweet and full of sensory details, which I think was a nice touch. And words and pictures work together marvelously.

As a big fan of Mulan, I had to have this book, It contained adorable illustrations by Sophie Li and some sweet tidbits regarding Chinese culture during this holiday. Love it!!

Gorgeously painted children's book about the Chinese lunar new year festival with Disney's Mulan. 7 year old Mulan is very clumsy but her caring family always support and guide her. Every activity is about promoting good luck, happiness and prosperity. Even the noise of the parade is to drive away evil spirits and the Nian monster.

Mulan’s Lunar New Year by Natasha Yim, illustrated by Sophie Li. PICTURE BOOK. Disney Press, 2018. $18. 9781368023269

Mulan is getting nervous that she won’t be able to enjoy the new year because she has made so many mistakes that feel unlucky, like dropping a glass and putting on her robes backward. Her parents teach her more about what luck and the new year really means.
I learned so much from this story. All the details about the Chinese New Year were slipped into the story of a little girl feeling like she couldn’t stop making mistakes. Great layers. I only struggled with the age of Mulan - she seems so much younger than the Mulan of the movies and it felt confusing.

Cute story book of child Mulan getting ready for the Chinese New Year. She wore red for good luck and picked out lanterns for her family and herself, the dragon lantern signifying good luck. She learns her Chinese tradition of steaming fluffy white buns for happiness and reunion and then makes dumplings for prosperity and cooks noodles for a long life. Afterwards, she brings some of the food to her ancestors at the family temple. She is taught that she cannot sweep after the new years for a few days or she'll sweep away the good luck. She does activities with her family like calligraphy and flies kites before the night festival parade.

The Fa household is busy preparing for Lunar New Year!
Mulan is 7 and is excited to help out, but she’s not having a lucky start to the New Year.
Grandmother Fa gave her a little red flower sprig for extra good luck.
But bad luck continues to follow Mulan throughout the day. Mulan can’t seem to do anything right, from decorating the house, writing calligraphy, and giving food offerings to their Ancestors.
But every step along the way, Grandmother, Father, and Mother are there to guide Mulan throughout the day.
“I think,” Mulan says, “good luck is having my family to share Lunar New Year with.” -
There are so many things that children want to participate in but they are too small. Once they become big enough they help and many time it turns out to be a hot mess. The same could be said for Mulan and her celebration. In the end everything turned out well, and her mistakes turned out to not be such a big deal the point was the participation and the inclusion. This could be a good teaching moment for children to know that their involvement is important and special.

I read this book for a book review program for my School Library System. It was a cute read based on a well know Disney character. It gives info about the Chinese New Year in a fun story. Any child who like Mulan or other Disney princesses should enjoy this.

Loved it! Beautiful book with such lovely illustrations. It was a bit of a humorous story, but I loved it. In this story you get to see Mulan as a young child getting ready for the Lunar New Year and it was really cool! I love seeing Disney characters in their younger self than what we're used to.
-
A picture book introduction to Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) featuring Mulan that makes the customs and culture accessible to young readers. Bonus: at the heart of it all is the love of the family who Mulan shares her New Year with.
-
Super cute story that shares some traditions of the Lunar New Year while also explaining how Mulan may have always been unique and perhaps a little clumsy. Overall enjoyed it a lot, the art was very pretty.
-
I wanted to love this, but it just seemed a bit drab for me. Illustrations were lovely and I loved the overall story, but it somehow managed to be too much and not enough at the same time.
-
It's a long picture book, but it does igve some great information about the Chinese/Lunar New Year.

Through Mulan, we learn many of the elements and traditions of the Chinese New Year.
