Lena Stevens became Anker Hansen's Temporary Bride when as a widow, her house burned down and she needed shelter for her young son Charlie and herself for the winter. Anker made a promise to her dying husband to protect Lena and Charlie and he accepts the Temporary Bride idea but does not like it.
Both main characters are strong willed, honest and stubborn so conflict develops; it is dealt with in a mature manner with discussion, actions on Anker's part to prove his love and commitment to his new wife. Due to past hurts and losses in her life Lena young life she finds it difficult to accept a giving love that Anker offers. I loved the Norwegian traditions woven into the story and how it helped the romance develop in a natural manner. I look forward to reading another Christian romance by Linda Ford. -
Linda Ford pens an enjoyable western romance novel. She hooks the reader with a story of a wounded and vulnerable young woman, Lena Stevens. So as not to give away too much of the story, the reader's heart goes out to this young woman who has faced so many tragedies in her life. As in most romance novels, readers look for a "knight in shining armor to come in to rescue the beautiful damsel." Ms. Ford introduces to us to Anker Hampton, and neighbor and former friend of Lena's deceased husband. How she brings these two strong willed characters together is remarkable. She does it through a "pretend marriage." You have to read this book to find out more.
I appreciated the way Ms. Ford crafted this character-driven plot. We see our two protagonists deal with their situation. She uses a dialog to move the plot line. I particularly liked the inclusion of the protagonists' internal dialog. I also found it fascinating that she decided to use a secondary character, Mrs. Miller, as the antagonist. I found this to be a clever strategy. Fans of Christian Historical Western Romances should definitely read this book. -
This was not a typical genre that I read very often - it was purchased as a free eBook from Amazon so I thought, what the heck. I really enjoyed it - the plot was not overly involved; mostly a simple one involving just a few characters. It's a very clean book - one that I would probably consider 'G' rated.
The widow Lena is suddenly forced into an unfortunate predicament and needs a place to stay for the winter. To maintain honor and dignity, she agrees -albeit very reluctantly- to marry Anker, her deceased husband's best friend who promised to look after her and her son - so she can live with him throughout the winter season. She is absolutely intent on the marriage being temporary so that come spring, she and her son can leave and start a live on their own without being indebted to anyone else. Her biggest hurdle is learning to trust again, and Anker does everything he can to convince her life can be different from all that she has ever known. -
Christian historical Western romance with a widow marrying her husbands best-friend when she is burned out of her house in the middle of winter.
Widow and mother to a toddler, Lena Stevens doesn't trust anyone, she did trust her husband to a point, but when he died and left her alone again, she doesn't want to chance loving again, but she is forced into a marriage with her neighbor when a fire burns her home. Anker is a sweet loving man that is accepting and kind, he has many friends and is used to love because he comes from a very bug loving family in Norway. Anker already is friends with Lena when they marry, and he already loves her little half native American son so much that he calls him, 'son'. Anker is the best! He should have his own self help book within this book.
Sweet clean Christian themed romance.

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I thought it dragged on a bit and some of the story could've been skipped over to get to the more relevant parts. But my heart hurt so many times for these characters, one of whom was struggling with an inner hurt, the other who was struggling to love without being pushy. Anker's faith was inspiring and something I work toward daily in my own life so I felt I could connect with him. But I also felt able to connect with Lena since I worry and doubt far too often.
On the technical side, there were a couple of glaring typos which sort of jolted me out of the reading but by the time I reached them, I was far too invested in the story to quit.
If you enjoy historical romances which are clean reads and in which the characters face real struggles to reach a happy ending, then you'll probably enjoy this book. -
This is a sad story with a happy ending. Anker is sweet, caring and honorable. Lena is stubborn, independent and untrusting. After her house burns down Lena reluctantly marries her neighbor, who was her deceased husband's best friend, but in name only, and only for the winter. While Anker has feelings for Lena and wishes for a real marriage, Lena refuses to trust in him and God again. But she finds herself fighting herself about what she feels for him. Anker patiently and lovingly waits and hopes for the best. She doesn't make it easy on him, she fights every step of the way.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Goodreads. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it. -
Temporary Bride should be called reluctant hard head
Lena, married Johnson and had a little boy whom they named Charlie. Johnson died in an accident but before his death he asked Anker to look after his family.
Lena is found one night holding Charlie tight to her self while her home burns. The town people come to help but because Charlie is half breed people look down their nose, you se Lena is a white woman and Johnson was an Indian. But the boy is the sweetest child.
I enjoyed reading this book, there is a lot of self doubt from Lena which is my only complaint.. other wise good book -
Report Bride
Nice story written quiet well, was much to made me believe that the novel was written with not much about children as those of us that have been brought up with siblings and also have children know that a baby as this child was supposed to be does not talk in sentences at such an early age. Interesting to show how faith in God and fear was handled, good story if you can put aside naive the way the young woman was and how she comes with a brutal up bringing, the end was quiet surprising. A quick fast read. -
Christian Romance
Lena has had a difficult life and after a fire burns her home she is forced to marry to make it through the winter. She wants an annulment come Spring. Anker tries to teach her about God and his love and through the winter he comes to love her and doesn't want her to leave. Lena has to face her demons and trust God. At times I was frustrated with Lena, but overall a good story with an HEA ending. -
Temporary Bride (Book 1) By Linda Ford
Five w, a good christian novel, Lena had been misuse and carry a lot of baggage... Anker was a neighbor who made a promise.. To take care of Lena and her son.. Opportunity comes with a fire and marriage.. She wanted to hang on to what was hers, no trust not even in God.. Anker went out of his way to show her that God love her..It took her to the end of the book to realize that God did love her..And it was a good ending. -
I usually avoid "bride" books, but this one came up on my Kindle and I gave it a try. Glad I did. Well-written characters who are changing for the better, continually coming to new and healthier realizations about themselves and others. But this "bride" was a feisty one. It took her some time to see what was in front of her all the time, and how God was leading. The interest is in how she handles it and what she does about the situation she's in.

Very good book
Loved the characters and the love for God. Putting hardship in the Story is what life is all about and trusting in God to bring good out of it is also what life is about. Lena's life had more than most hardships and to trust and love again and to except love is the most wonderful gift God can give. God knows all things and if we love and trust Him he will show us the most wonderful love there is.
