To Mr. Charles Paterson for his excellent work as director of band and orchestra, we, the class of 1940, dedicate this book. Through his abil ity and hearty cooperation, he has helped to make this year a success for us.
Since his appointment two years ago he has made a class A band - one of the best-bands in Southern Illinois. No person in the history of Uni versity High has contributed so much to the development of the band.
He is well known on the campus as a band director, violinist, and song writer. As a violinist he has won many honors. He has written many songs. The past year he wrote two songs which are played at all athletic events and sung by all the students.
