First of all, here's my real life Hyesung and Dojin:

Okay, enough with the unnecessary cb feels.

I adore Fargo's art style. I'm no art expert but I think it's beautiful. She is such a talented piece of cinnamon roll and for that reason I'm giving this a 3-star rating.

However, my appreciation thread isn't that long enough to reach beyond the art department. I notice that ABO culture in most manga/manhwa is sexually-harassing omegas and looking down on them because they're 'weak' and considered at the bottom of the social pyramid. Omegas tend to be discriminated and abused in this story (the usual abo stuff) Dojin's action is totally revolting, unforgivable. It is also a crime if Dojin wants to eat some fact.

With regards to the characters, I find Hyesung the most annoying one. Yes, he's sassy. Yes, he's the type who doesn't give a fck. Yes, he has a strong personality for an omega. However, he has no common sense. He is selfish. He is a coward (his solution to everything is by running away). He is taking advantage of poor Dojin (although I believe the latter deserves it). The lowkey discrimination, midkey unfairness and highkey sexual abuse seem to be normalized in the story, which in no way I can appreciate and tolerate.

Still, I enjoyed this one. Dojin, despite hating him for what he did to Hyesung, still the most tolerable character. I like it that the gentle dude apologized to Hyesung and felt an intense regret for what he did. I also appreciate how he genuinely cares for Hyesung and how he makes up to his mistake (I sort of warm up to Dojin tbh) despite the small guy being a bitch about every singe thing Dojin does for him. Another A-hole, lel. And yes, the smut, bish, lots of smut.

4 stars for the first couple(Hye-sung and the Alpha Dojin), bcs their relationship started with a pretty huge non-con, while I really loved the second couple and I wished there were more chapters about them, bcs Heesoo and the master were just too cute, and I also hoped that the author would tell us that our sweet beta could have kids, but it seems that in this world only omega can give birth. This didn't stop the author from posting many cute art of them with their kid, only wish that there was a chapter about it and that it was "canon", and not fanservice.

  • Delirious Disquisitions

I don't like coercive relationships and impregnating someone to make sure they never leave you when they already come from a lower social class and are beholden to you in many ways from the beginning is just the absolute worst. It's not romantic no matter how much you cuddle and coo over them later on.

    first read

I could read a few more seasons of that😖. The art was just awesome. I loved a certain tsundere very very much, I might even call him my most favorite manhwa character. And his husband, for putting up with his bitchy ass, I loved him too. I liked Chowon too as weird as that is. And his and Kyungsoo's would be the first ever side relationship I've ever whole heartedly shipped in the history of my reading no cap. And baby Byul omfg so cute. I repeat, SO FREAKING CUTE.

I think this is the only mpreg book I've ever rated 5 stars.

    second read

    as adorable as ever🥰🥰

  • Neolavender123

If telenovela was a manhwa, it'd be Love is an Illusion lmao.

    Plot

I can't spoil too much but the conflicts are too telenovela-like. You have NO idea how much I eye-rolled and face-palmed at some of the things I read here. The situations that Hye-sung suddenly finds himself in always baffled me. The only good thing I like about the plot is that they use the omega-verse setting not only as a reason for sex but as some plot-devices. Otherwise, I found most of the things happening in this manhwa downright stupid. The time-skip after *that situation* also threw me off guard.

    Characters

The characters are one of my biggest issues I have with this story. There is no reason for the author to make Dojin an alpha who hated omegas. What does that fact have to do with the story if he just ended up falling head over heels with Hye-sung? Is it just to make readers feel like Hye-sung is an only exception? But if so, why not establish WHY he is an exception? Maybe Dojin ignored Hye-sung's omega-ness because he fell for his kindness? Humor? Sensitivity?

The main problem here is Hye-sung himself is not likable at all! LMAO. It's VERY hard to sympathize with both characters because even if I want to believe Dojin's love for Hye-sung, Hye-sung himself was an asshole. From my point of view, there is zero reason for any connection to develop between them except out of pity (Dojin) and out of necessity (Hye-sung).

    Artwork

The artwork is actually quite good. Character designs are pretty. The colors are nice. The author said she enjoys drawing sex scenes and it shows because the scenes are actually hot and I can feel the emotions oozing from the characters. To be honest, that's the only thing I find very okay with this manhwa.

    Overall Review

1 star or 2 stars; that is the question. I finished this manhwa feeling more frustrated than I am delighted. 1 star means I didn't like it. But strangely, I liked it enough to read all the available chapters in two days. I guess this means I'm a bit of a masochist? The story and the characters are stupid. But I won't lie that the author is THAT good at conveying emotions.

    So... 2 stars, I guess?

NO.

    Paso, paso, y paso.

DNF the entire series, finished season 1.
trigger warnings for: non-consensual sex, dubious consensual sex, knotting, male pregnancy, omegaverse, abusive relationships
    spoilers below, it's a review

Omegaverse isn't a dealbreaker for me. I knew what this was going in -- I've written kind of extensively, academically and online about omegaverse, so it's fair to say I know what it is that I'm getting into so when I saw that Lezhin was advertising an "omegaverse" webtoon I was interested to see what it was going to be. When I saw it was by an author that I only knew had done a comic that was pretty much just noncon, I was a bit less thrilled. Still, I figured I would give it a try. For the uninitiated, omegaverse is a fanfiction created trope wherein some (usually) men have fantasy reproductive traits related to a misunderstanding of the reproductive cycles of wolves. Some men are omegas (this translates well to the BL equivalent of bottoms/ukes) and some men are alphas (tops/semes). Omegas have effectively vaginas, alphas have knots. Omegas have heat cycles -- and this lends itself to the tropes longstanding issue with dubious consent.

The first sex scene in "Love is an Illusion" is dubious consent and it's not really a surprise that it honestly gets worse after that. I didn't make it past the Season 1 finale but every sex scene is made under some form of duress, either dubious or explicitly non consensual. That one of the partners (the omega) is financially dependent on the alpha and unable to leave his circle of protection only makes the matter actually worse. Add in a non-consensual pregnancy (because yes, omegas in this universe can get pregnant) and you get the trifecta of abusive relationships. I don't actually mind mpreg -- gender is a construct, whatever -- but it's usage here is weird and it's clear that for our main character the pregnancy is a foreign body in a literal and figurative sense. That he is effectively financially manipulated into keeping it is gross.

Which may make you think I care about him as a character. I don't. Hye-sung might be the single most annoying character I've ever encountered in any webtoon ever. He's vapid, deeply whiny and while his dysphoria could have been an entirely engaging plot point it was mishandled so egregiously I didn't care enough to engage with this past Season 1. The only reason I stuck through as long as I did was honestly the art, which while black and white was pretty solidly done. The main characters were well drawn and distinctive -- I never had an issue telling them apart, which can often be an issue in lesser BL comics, and I had a really good idea of space and style. The occasional breaks into color were welcome and well done. If Fargo ever dips into something more consensual, I might even read it.

Ohhhh!!!! Don't even get me started on this one... I SERIOUSLY hated Hye-sung's materialistic personality... heck, I seriously hated him period. I even nearly dropped this coz I was having serious anger issues towards him... Not mentioning when the drama started. Gods, I threw a chair at the wall just so I won't throw my phone... But then... Well, even though I effing hated Hye-sung, I still liked him. It was a very tenous like, but I held on to that small thread. And it paid off... in the side stories. xD

This is the only webtoon I read that felt like a roller coaster. xD

Before anything else, AAAAA I FUCKING LOVED THE ART!!! And the colored sex scenes are the shit ugh so hot! Thank you, author-nim.

I never thought I’d enjoy omegaverse this much... Hyesung— that gold digger little shit is getting on my last fucking nerve but I still love him, he’s so cute!!!

And Dojin— fuck me, daddy. That’s all I’m sayin’.

Ugh can’t wait for little bitch Hyesung to suffer. Come through, season two!

  • Neko

Once again, I really wish Dojin had found someone really worthy of his love and devotion. Hye-sung is too selfish and petty... ugh... but well... Dojin loves him sadly...
Kyahh~ Byul is just too cute! I loved that. Still, Hye-sung is still unworthy. lol...
Loved it but I'm really only rating this as I have because Dojin, Byul and Heesoo x Dojun. lol... still liked the story in the end. What a fun ride!

  • the bookish nook

I freaking loved this one!!! Byul is the cutest thing ever😭😭 I need one where he grows up👉👈

  • Xavier Reads

    3.5
One Extra star for the world's cutest baby Byul! 😍

Though I cried out of frustration at some almost non consensual sex scenes. (At this point I can't even rant anymore since it's so common in every freaking manga I've found, especially Manhwas)

I finished it for Byul. The ending left me curious about a lot of things.

  • ❇️Bora❇️

I love everything about this webtoon.......... except Hye-Sung.

He is so annoying. My like/dislike ratio for him is 20%/80%

I feel so bad for Do-jin sometimes like he deserves to be appreciated and loved. Like really loved. I'm sure Hyesung at least likes the guy but his whole 'I'm not gonna show you my true feelings' is so repetitive and I'm over it.

The baby is so cute, Do-jin's family are so sweet, his manager/band mate is great too. Majority of everything has been great so overall I've really enjoyed the webtoon. I've also had some laugh-out-loud moments here and there (and Hye-sung has been responsible for quite a few of them).

Definitely will be keeping watch for updates.

This freaking manga had me shook. The first volume left me with a cliffhanger that I was on the verge of killing the freaking Omega, but in the overall point of view is that the story was great, with great characters and A LOT OF EROTIC SCENES.

The second volume of the book was even better than the first one, very cute, sexy and well written.

In omegaverse's defense, instinct dominates over reason so I'll ignore the questionable parts for now... Although I will still not get used to omegaverse's animalistic side I tell you. But the alpha guy still raped the poor lost omega that time when he was not in heat, okay? I can't overlook that part. Seriously, this could have been wholesome. O, and the punishment sex, come on? Red flags all-over the place, and Ares cabin would rejoice.

I like the build-up of the story in the latter part of this series and it just pains me that it has to start that way. Such a shame, this would have been perfect. So, overall, I'll give it 3 stars.

By the way, I love all of the side stories! The author found comfort in poor and rich couple trope, huh. And they couldn't let go of the age-gap trope either. It wasn't so bad (they aren't minors anymore) albeit too clichéd.

Also, I love the physical representations of omegaverse in this series. I never took notes on that before and it's refreshing actually and all new information. I've only read a few omegaverse; some kind of detailed, some so and so, but this one brought home the bacon. I like the author's take on omegaverse here.

  • danerys

everyone acted like a bitch at some point but the character development was pretty good & i liked how there were multiple different couples. it’s no BJ Alex though

  • lin (hazard's version)

    2.5⭐

this is so toxic!! this book has too many red flags!! 🚩The reason why I gave it this score and not a worse one is because some scenes make me smile like an idiot hahaha, such as Byul's scenes (I think that's how it is written)...the relationship between the protagonists is very toxic and I also wanted to slap Heeso(queso<3) for the things he did hahahahaha.
    Pdt: sorry for my english...❣️

  • pipes ♡

my cousin forced me to read it but i don't feel regretful at all, it's so sweet tho.

  • Tamara

The main couple is super toxic. They literally had a baby because the alpha wanted something to retain the omega by his side...

  • Vincent Rey

    1 out of 10.

    What a shitshow.

  • | Shakshi |

The only good thing that came out of this relationship was the baby Byul 👶and nothing else.

Hye-sung was dillusional about him being an Alpha and went to a a party to work part time where there was Park Dojin, a well known personality and someone who clearly despises Omegas. There occurred Hye-sung' s first ever heat and to take care of his "needs" during that, Dojin helped him out. Hye-sung taken this in a wrong way and left after saying bad words to him. But destiny falls upon and they met each other again and due to certain circumstances, Hye-sung was pregnant with Dojin's child.

Plot wise this webtoon is sometimes pale and sometimes just *bleh* , a cliché romance story that is certainly based upon the couple's insecurities and indifferences.

Hye-sung was really the most trashy character I ever saw in a webtoon. He was just an insecure, selfish, greedy and undecisive piece of trash. Yup, although he do have a past that leads a personality like this to him.... but why can't he just stop looking everyone in the same light and be more judgemental. *Yeah, I know he was an academic genius but he is so young and now is with a baby... but it's not like anyone is expecting anything out of him.... they do know he can even flee away leaving behind a new born child*, *Is he crazy or looking for attention when Dojin proposes him and he kicked him down infront of the whole family knowing that they have a baby together and they are bonded.... so there's no other way out😤😤😤.

And here's this other character of the story, Park Dojin. Actually, I do feel bad for him because he devoted not just his first successful song, but his whole life and heart to an ungrateful brat who never seems to care about him🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. Although, Dojin do hates Omegas but after meeting Hye-sung, his opinion changed about them and is now head over heels for him *and I am thinking here how?? For him?? Like really..... 🤔🤔* I just think if he would have bit of self respect and didn't bend this much... the plot would be bit better.😓😓

Moreover, It took almost 99 chapters for Hye-sung how much Dojin cares about hima and his family ( Park Family) loves him😌😌

Other than Byul ( who is definitely the only rational and mature one in their family and bcoz of whom I tolerate this upto chap 99) the side couple is damn hot in the story. They comprise of Heesoo ( in exact words, Dojin's shadow) and Dojun ( Dojin's elder brother), a daddy-like Seme and an adorable Uke, a couple who not just love each other unconditionally but also support and can take any risks in their life to ensure other's safety😍😍. In short, a better mature version of Hye-sung and Dojin as an Alpha-Beta relationship.

With almost 72 chapters with so many side stories... this story was so hectic for me whenever there was nothing in story about Heesoo and Dojun..... I can read their story for N number of times, really..💜💜💘💘

    Happy Reading 📚😊
