World's Greatest Cartoonists Free Comic Book Day 2018 Reviews

  • John “Hoss”

A great sampling of Fantagraphic's current alternative comic writers and artists. If you're not familiar with some of the current alternative comic guys and gals, this comic does a great job of providing a variety of different pieces. Worth the read!

  • Kest Schwartzman

I generally prefer the books that are one whole (short) story to the ones, like this, that are samplers of an entire publishing house's artists, but... There's several in here that I'm interested to check out.

When you have a title like "World's Greatest Cartoonists" you're going to be held to a high standard and better deliver.

    This does not.

I'm all for different/weird/out of the box but most of this just doesn't appeal to me. In short:

Von Krantz: odd and not too bad
Poochytown: way weird but I'd read more
Fruit of knowledge: ummmm ok, whatever
Xmas 2019: so out of context
    Goldfinga: just nonsense
Bottomless belly button: ugh, so millenial
    Indigo Fables: completely wanky nonsense
Living without a voice: actually could be good!
Excerpt from some bipolar thingy: whatever

When I went to FCBD and had to choose out of the 50, I grabbed this one, thinking it might have some actual greats like Eisner, McCloud, etc. Sorely disappointed.
