The gripping, steamy follow up to the bestselling forbidden romance, Wanting Mr. Cane...

KANDY
I was left broken, my heart beating a little bit harder in order to survive. I'd tried picking up the pieces, but when it came to Cane, it was hard to let go.
The way we touched was special and we promised to never forget one another. I had him right in the palm of my hand--thought everything was perfect--but in the blink of an eye, he was gone, leaving me with no choice but to pretend that what we had never existed.

CANE
She was off-limits to me, but I pushed the boundaries anyway. Now, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place, my career slowly but surely slipping out of my grasp, and ghosts from my past returning to make things much more complicated.
My love life had never meant so much to me until I met Kandy.
After being knocked down and left stranded, any sane man would have stayed far away, but I wasn't sane--not by a long shot.
I knew reality was harsh, and the universe had all the odds stacked against us. Despite it all, nothing was going stop me from making her mine again.
And if someone tried, they were going to have to go over my dead body first.

    ➳When forbidden strikes again,
Shanora Williams knows how to expertly write it in an enticing romance novel filled with lots of drama making you crave more...

➳I have encountered yet again another author that has slowly captivated and SLAYED my heart with their writing.
Shanora Williams somehow, in some wicked way
has put herself in a special place in my heart for making me love her writing more and more every time she releases something new. I am not the biggest fan of stories with cliffhangers, but Shanora seriously knows how to write them and make me want more no matter the cost...

➳Sometimes, when reading forbidden romances that revolve themselves around the age gap of the main characters bring out the kinkiest side of me. And hey! I embrace it. Cane and Kandy have made me such a lunatic with their love and passion towards each other. One can truly detect how strong they both are as individuals who have pasts of their own, but join hands in an intimate way that cannot separate them forever. Their powerful chemistry is one that seriously had me swooning from one page to the next, a non-stop reminder that Cane and Kandy are the ideal couple in a forbidden romance.

➳When heading off to college, after a rough patch of her parents finding out the truth, Kandy struggles with trying to start her new life at college. Making new friends has been easy, trying to let her guard down and meet someone knew as a lover has been hard since her heart will forever be engraved with the name of Cane. Her heart does not let her forget the love she has towards Cane. I honestly cannot blame her, my hands would never get tired of running around the hotness that is Quintin Cane.

➳Overall, my time being spent reading Cane and Kandy's story has been worth it because no matter how their story ends or continues **wink wink** I will forever want more of their banter and romance. Characters that pop out of the page and make you crazy for more, are the ideal characters that deserve your full attention and Shanora has conquered that in this masterpiece of a novel. Thank you so much to Shanora for letting me read her novel, my hands are now itching for her next release!

    So good!!

I love Cane and Kandy together. In this book you can see how much Kandy has matured. She’s 19 now, but has a good head on her shoulders. They still have to fight for people to accept their love but in the end they know that what matters is that they are happy.

We get to meet some people in this book that either you love or hate. Kelly is still crazy and that cliffhanger ending stole my breath! I can’t wait for part 3 in September.

I can’t get enough of Cane and Kandy. I hope they get their happily ever after soon cause I am rooting for them!

I just love this seres so much. This book wasn't as good as book one since Kandy and Cane are apart for a lot of the book, but there was so much drama in this book and I ate up every second of it. There is another cliffhanger in this book, so I'm dying to pick up the final book in this series. Lots of forbidden goodness and consequences for Kandy and Cane not being able to stay away from each other. And, of course, lots of heat brewing between the two!

Ok. wow. This book picks up directly from where Wanting Mr Cane left off so if you haven't read that yet and this series appeals to you then step away from the review because this review is spoiler central about book 1 in the Cane series.

This book is a lot darker than Wanting Mr Cane and it deals with some intense subjects such as child and spousal abuse (which was briefly covered in Wanting Mr Cane but becomes more relevant in Breaking Mr Cane), drug and alcohol abuse and mental health issues.

This book begins with Kandy and Cane's forbidden romance out in the open after the evil Kelly sent a pen drive containing a recording of them in a compromising position to her parents (and had many other copies made.) She had kept her crazy under a bushel for most of Wanting Mr Cane but throughout this book Cane is under no illusion of the type of person that she is.

Kandy goes off to college knowing that her father is devastated, he mother isn't much better and Cane is hospital after her father attacked him. She tries to throw herself into college life, meeting new people and going through the motions of having fun but inside it is a different story.

I don't want to go any further into book details because this really is a corker of a novel and it deserves to be read and enjoyed.

This series has taken a different course to the one that I anticipated when I picked up Wanting Mr Cane but it is different in a good way. More intense, more intricate and more than a 'taboo romance' I didn't see coming most of what happens in this impressive roller-coaster. (well roller-coaster if they could also go sideways. It's really more of a spin cycle and you never know what direction the story is going to take!)

One word of warning: Shanora Williams does like to leave you hanging and desperate to get your hands on the next instalment. I consider this both a good and bad thing. I am inpatient by nature but if the next instalment is as amazing as the first two then it will be worth the wait!

Thanks to Shanora Williams and Social Butterfly PR for granting me an ARC copy of Breaking Mr Cane. This is my honest review.

Age Gap | Forbidden Romance | Must be read in Order.

Shanora Williams is breaking out some serious twists with this series and I cannot help but devour these books in one sitting. The way they end make me want to immediately start the next one. Good thing this series is already completed. I don't know how readers were able to patiently wait for the next one!

That being said. Breaking Mr. Cane is the second book in the Cane series and must be read in order. These books follow the deliciously forbidden romance between an older man and his best friends daughter. I think it's also safe to say that this series is not only forbidden, but suspenseful as well. At the end of this one, we are left with tidbits of information about something bad that is about to go on. Trust me, I was literally hanging by the edge of my seat wondering what the hell was happening! I didn't expect the book to take the direction it did, but I am very much looking forward to finally getting my answers in the final novel.

If you aren't familiar with this series (and/or haven't read book 1:
Wanting Mr. Cane) then stop reading here. You are about to be in spoiler territory.

When the first book ends we find out that Cane and Kandy's secret relationship has been found out. A very evil woman named Kelly (an ex girlfriend of sorts) has sent Kandy's parents a video of them having sex in his office. Things really start to get bad when Cane is injured when her father makes an appearance to have it out with him. This is how book 1 ends. So what happens next?

Well, the story progresses here in book 2 and things just get darker. Kandy is finally in college and has little to no contact with Cane after everything went down. But because she's a spark to his flame they can't completely let go of each other. So they end up meeting (coincidentally) while she's at a college seminar and things begin to pick up between them again. Unfortunately, there are villains still out to get them and the assault on Cane at the end of book 1 looks like horseplay compared to what happens to Kandy at the end of this one. I was speechless! If it wasn't 1:30 in the morning here I would be starting on the 3rd book now. Unfortunately, my eyes are sleepy and I must get to bed (after leaving this review) but I will be devouring it tomorrow.

If you are a fan of this series I can't imagine you NOT wanting to binge it out and I def. recommend it if you've already read book 1. This is an awesome series filled with action, suspense, and a whole lot of amazing forbiddenness. I can't wait to see how Cane and Kandy's story ends!

    5 + Stars!!

I am absolutely loving this series!! It is actually becoming a top favorite. As much as I loved the first book I might just love this one a little more. This book was actually a pretty emotional read for me and I cried several times. There’s still that forbidden aspect I love so much as well as some angst mixed with some heavy scenes that truly make you feel for them and their situation.
You really see Kandy mature and grow in this book after what she’s had to deal with and go through. I just love Quinton Cane so much. I love who he is and how he is with Kandy and the sacrifices they make for each other and their love. Their love is real and they fight hard for one another.
There are a few things I did not see coming and now here I am again pining away for the next book!! This author tortures me so good!!! And I keep coming back for more every time. I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! You will not be disappointed with this one just be warned you will be counting down the days for book 3 but I know it will definitely be worth the wait.

Another cliffhanger? No thanks. This was slow enough for me and has turned out into a soap opera. And there will be 4 books? I hoped it was a duet.

  • Candace Tidwell

So I am going to sum up books 2-3.5 in this review since I just read them back to back. It's been awhile since I had finished book 1 but I knew I needed to finish the series after I was left reeling from the the first books ending.
I have always been a fan of Shanora Williams and love her style of writing. This series was a little different from what I normally read but I was intrigued after the first book. The storyline is unique and my curiosity had me glued but I dont think its William's best work. You may read it and it will become your favorite series but it was lacking for me. The romance was lovely although at times a bit childish and repetitive. There was drama and sometimes it flowed easily with the dialogue and others it felt forced. Even though this may not be her best work, in my opinion, the storyline is still good. I look forward to what William's releases in the future. Till then, buy the series and enjoy.

When love hits you , it doesn’t care about age or color or even if it’ll hurt.

    description

And it hits hard!! Kandy Jennings is infected with love, the same ailment is eating up Quentin Cane alive. They're so far apart, yet just a memory away in their souls. The story is is flowing way past the tragic mark almost into ugly-cry territory. Shanora has dipped her pen in pain & tears, impregnated it with misery and angst. I felt sorry, oh so hurtfully sorry for them. Why couldn't the world leave them alone!!
My life was unusual. I only prayed my abnormal life would make me resilient one day.

    description

They're just loving for God's sake, not hurting anybody!!. Though I did understand Derek, I wanted to plead to his fatherly heart, have mercy you world!!
To say that I was teary eyed most of the time, is an understatement. I had in my prejudiced mind, assumed that Kandy was too young, what does she know about love, but as they say about people who assume........
The book moved me so much, just spoke to my optimistic heart. I hope they get peace & happiness in their ever after and forever after. The utter pain that Kandy goes through, being judged and ridiculed, thrown out and alienated, it was heartbreaking
Only a slut would be okay with sneaking around with a man who was nearly twice her age. Only a slut would fuck her father’s best friend, ruin everything, and still choose him afterward.

    description

One noteworthy thing here, shanora took a path less traveled and made Cane pretty strong. I mean he's panty melting sexy and all, but he's the calmness centers him, which in turn tethers Kandy and they don't waste time in denial for long.
As shanora shows they have an uphill battle, actually more like Everest-mine trek!!
But we're all in it together. We are right besides Kandy-cane, every step of the way, rooting for them and praying for them, and as long as they hold hands and eyes on each other, destinies should combine
when we’re together, it’s like nothing else matters. But when we’re apart, all of the demons start to pop up and reality is shoved into our faces and it’s harder to breathe— harder to think clearly.”

    description

"Should" being the operative word because as depicted in the end, shanora has a sinister twist planned and WTF is going on here ?!!😮

First and foremost, cliffhangers and I are not friends! I don't know what Shanora is thinking. Honestly, I think she thrives in having her readers be in pain. Shaking my head so damn hard at you Shanora. I can't handle this! I'm raging right now and need a round with a punching bag because I need to let this aggression out. I'm huffing and puffing over here wanting to blow a damn house down and let all this steam out. I'm seriously becoming the Hulk, and oh it's scary.

It goes without saying that Quinton mothereffing Cane just gets better and better. I don't know how he could possibly become even more irresistible, but he is. That man has so many layers that when they're peeled back, oomph, just give me more and keep them coming. Cane and all his sinful glory own me. And to be owned by a man like that? Well, I don't think it's gets better than that.

Kandy and Cane didn't have it easy. There were obstacles, obviously. Secrets to be kept. Revelations that needing to be handled. People in the way and not understanding the magnitude that were Cane and his Kandy. Is it worth it though? Is it worth loving someone with all your heart and soul knowing that because of that love, comes pain? That's what Kandy and Cane must figure out. Is their love worth it?

Breaking Mr. Cane gave me all the same feelings the first book gave me, though more rage this time around. There were a couple of characters I had death eyes for. Seriously I was channeling my inner Britney Spears, circa shaved head era. Hold my earrings because things are about to get real. The distaste I had for those three individuals was unhealthy. I wanted a round or two with each and by the time I was done with them you best believe I'd come out on top. No joke, these books are taking years off my life. And knowing there's still two more books left in this series, I only hope I survive.

*breathe in, breathe out* has definitely become my mantra when it comes to these books. I know for a fact I'll need to brush up on every breathing exercise there is, because lord knows I'm going to need them when reading the rest of this series.

  • Elle Samuels

Man, this book was another wild ride, and it just keeps getting crazier. Literally!!! Kelly is so freaking unhinged, it’s actually wildly entertaining but my GOD I cannot wait until she gets hers.

I loved Cane and Kandy even more in this book, their sweetness to each other is so lovely. Hated Brody and Sophie, and the entire situation at the school pissed me off so much. And seems highly unlikely, but hey…who knows.

Now I’m staying up way past my bedtime to try and dig in to book three because I CANNOT STOP READING THIS SERIES! And can Kandy’s dad get over himself already?! For the love!

  • Elsa Gomes (BookishAurora)

    Rate: 5 / 5 stars

Breaking Mr. Cane almost broke me. This book was better than the first and I honestly didn't think Quinton Cane could get better but he sure fucking did! I fell more in love with him and with Kane (should this be their ship name or is there a better one? possibly.).

So so much happened! The book was jam packed with action, twists and turns, betrayals, new characters and so much depth. You get to know so much more about Quinton but still not enough, there will be much more to know about Quinton's past in the next two installments in the series, and I cannot wait to know everything about the man! I want to know every single thing and also see where his relationship with Kandy goes next.
Their relationship in this book was honestly the best thing ever! I loved them together! There was SO much love between them, still the same kink and sexy times and those only seem to get hotter every damn time too! But there was so much more love in this book and I loved that. I adored watching their relationship grow, watching them stick together and come out to the world as a strong couple.

There was also a lot more drama and fights and ah so much of what happened had me shook! I wasn't expecting it and I wasn't ready, and despite not being happy with what happened because I love these characters and I hurt with them, I loved everything in this book! It was just blow after blow and twist and turns and just so many damn emotions, I was living. Breaking Mr. Cane had me on the edge waiting to see what would happen next, I couldn't put this book down, I just had to know what came next and boy I wasn't ready for that either. That freaking ending. Another cliffy. Worst then the first one. I wasn't ready at all. And now I'm gonna die waiting until September to find out what was left hanging in the balance. It's gonna be hard let me tell you that.

I wanted to keep on reading these two's story so damn bad. I wish the books were all out so I could binge them right now. Shanora Williams really pulled me into this world and made me fall madly for these characters and I am beyond excited (and honestly a bit scared) for what will happen next. Meanwhile I'll just go read The Venom Trilogy because Shanora said the series will tie in with the Cane series and also I honestly just need more of Shanora's words in my life. She is a master at forbidden romance and her words are pure sex and I am so glad I found her.

I don’t know how she does it, but Shanora Williams has given us yet again what she does best in Breaking Mr. Canean excellent and epic sequel to a forbidden romance that could easily be described as even better than the first book; characters we both love and hate; twists and turns that will make your head spin, your gut churn and your blood boil; and a massive cliffhanger that will make you want to pull all your hair out and leave your jaw hanging. It was just one crazy, hot, or intensely nerve-wracking scene after the other... and I freaking LOVED it! Your heart, your brain, and hell, your ovaries won’t rest until you’re done with this book.

“You are mine. Always will be. No matter the situation, no matter how fucked up life gets. Mine.”

If you thought you’ve already fallen—hard enough—in love with Quinton Cane after reading
    Wanting Mr. Cane,
better think again. When you see the version of him in this book and the side of him that’s jealous and more alpha and possessive than he was in the first book, you’ll be a complete goner. Reduced to a blubbering, idiotic mess who just wants to find her own version of this man.

”When you’re with someone you love, they are your escape from the madness of the real world.”

And now that Kandy Jennings is finally in college, she has a little more freedom to move around and do things. But it always seems like life has other plans for her—for them. And they’ll need to stay strong, stick together, and fight against all the odds to survive anything and everything that comes their way. This book? It’s just half the battle. There’s going to be so much more to come—numerous bumps on the road to tackle and curveballs to dodge. It won’t be easy. It might even get uglier and messier than it already is... and we all know it.

When love hits you, it doesn’t care about age or color or even if it’ll hurt. Love is fucked up, man. But it’s real.

Breaking Mr. Cane is a forbidden romance packed with all the heart-pounding angst, juicy drama, and mind-reeling twists and turns that will keep you craving, yearning and longing for so much more when it comes to Kandy and Mr. Cane. And with the kind of ending this has, I bet you’re just as tortured as I’m feeling now that we’re back to playing the waiting game. I need the next book, stat!

Getting this book on audiobook provided a different layer for the storyline. Having narrators did make it difficult to age up and down the characters appropriately not to feel groom-like. This section of the series had a lot of twists and turns. Kandy and Cane deal with many issues, and I was not too fond of the constant to fall back to the grooming feel of the storyline.

This book captivated me from the very beginning!! I was really looking forward to this book after finishing book 1 and I definitely wasn't disappointed. This book picks up right where the first left off so I didn't feel like i missed out on anything. It was a very intense story and so many things are finally revealed. I couldn't put it down once I began.

This book was given to me at my request and I provided this review voluntarily.

Well hot damn, Kane and Candy still got that fire 🔥 They definitely like to tempt fate. This book kept me on edge through the whole thing with so many secrets, ticking time bombs just waiting to explode. And when it exploded, man was it bad! Can't wait for the next book in this series to see how things play out!

Wow. Wow. Wow! What a wild freaking ride!!! I didn’t think I could hate Kelly anymore than I do and I didn’t think I could love Cane and Kandy anymore either! My emotions were all over the place while reading. I needed to know what happened, constantly being at the edge of my seat. I think my blood pressure sky rocketed! This is one intense read.

Shanora Williams sure knows how to throw a wicked curve ball! The inner turmoil that has separated both Kandy and Cane has reached an all time high. When secrets come to the light, you won't know what hit you!

I absolutely loved the first book, but Breaking Mr. Cane has bewitched me. I have no words to describe how heartbreaking this book was for me to read. This book is so intense and powerful... You could feel the tension rising by the end of the book.

I can't wait for what is in store for us with book 3.
    The ending left me REELING!

I’ve read quiet a few age gap/forbidden romances similar to this and I have to say...this one is the most realistic.

All the drama with parents not being accepting, people being uncomfortable with the older man, younger woman couple, etc is what makes this story different. Most other stories I have read in this genre so far have more fluff to them 😆

What else does this book have??

    ****Interesting secondary characters? ✔️
    ****Hot forbidden romance? ✔️
****Hero with a troubled past and family drama? ✔️
    ****Heartbreak and hardships?✔️
    ****Cliffhanger? ✔️

Im glad I persisted and stuck with this story. I wasn’t in love with book 1 like I was in book 2. I also love how grown up Kandy is in this book. She really found her voice and was not afraid to use it. Breaking Mr Cane did not disappoint.

So, here I am, at the end of the 2nd book. And if I said I loved the first book, well then, I don't know what to say now.
This series is getting better and better. I almost hyperventilated t the end. I can't even think straight.

This book, peeps, this book! I have no words, just exclamation marks. I've told you again and again just how GOOD Shanora Williams is as a writer, and the Cane series is her strongest stuff so far.

It's powerful, it's explosive, violent, intense and very emotional.

I CAN'T get enough of it and CAN'T get over it.

First of all I need to rant to Shanora Williams for that cliffhanger for Breaking Mr. Cane. I am a huge mess over it. I want to punch something or someone. I want to kill someone. The urge is real. I was left in a pit with my emotions because of Breaking Mr. Cane. I was left with tears flowing and my stomach up in knots. Gosh, this book ANNIHILATED me. This book mentally destroyed me. Breaking Mr. Cane absolutely laid everything bare. I felt the deep emotions. I felt the love seeping from the pages. I felt the angst till it choked me. I felt the conflict. I felt the doubts. Breaking Mr. Cane spoke a strong message through my heart and soul. Wow, Shanora Williams delivered. I might be a bit angry with her for screwing with my heart but she gave me an extraordinary book.

Breaking Mr Cane took me on a ride. A ride with obstacles. A ride filled with heartache. A ride filled with choices. A ride filled with so many uphill battles. My soul was ripped apart. My heart wrenched open. Breaking Mr Cane deeply settled inside me. The breathtaking story. The dazzling characters. Breaking Mr. Cane was a forbidden romance with so much angst and heartfelt moments that crushed my heart. Shanora Williams has a sinister mind. She will twist your heart, She will cut you with her words till you bleed. But her writing is beautiful. Her writing grips till it moves you. Her writing tethers you. Soulful. Spellbinding. Heart Crashing. Intense. Magnifying. Breaking Mr Cane is a tug you heart journey filled with sinful desires, gut wrenching moments, deep love, inner turmoil that will touch you. Breaking Mr Cane definitely rocked my universe.

Kandy and Cane bring so much fire and emotion to Breaking Mr. Cane. Theri relationship is raw, electrifying, haunting and quite possibly the best I have ever read. I am rooting for them. I am cheering them on because I adore them together, They might be some trials but it is their love that will push them on and fight every battle. Do not judge Kandy by her age, She may be young but she is mature. She is headstrong. You feel her struggles. Over her guilt. Over her forbidden for Cane. Definitely makes her a very likable character. Cane is still sexy as ever. He still makes me swoon. In Breaking Mr Cane, you find what make him tick. You find out he has vulnerabilities. You find out he has a past that absolutely will shock you. I am looking forward to book 3’s journey for Kandy and Cane.

If you have not started this series, you need to start it now. Right now

Feeling like the world is against her, Kandy only has one soft place to land with a person that's NOT going to interrogate her. Cane! He's her knight and her salvation, and together they determine that nothing is going to tear them apart. If only life were so simple. It's the adversity in life that molds us into the people we need to be in order to deal with life's curve balls. Make no mistake, they keep coming fast, hard and furious -- at them both.

Realizing that there is no magic pill or wand to make things better, Kandy makes a decision that we all saw coming from the beginning. It's one of her many life lessons learned and those lessons yet to follow. Her ultimate decision is necessary and gut-wrenching, and you will feel every bit of the pain in that room. No one is spared and the damage is earth shattering and perhaps even irreparable.

If that wasn't bad enough, the past comes back in a very painful way and the people in Kandy's life will have to decide if they want to remain enemies or if they want to combat the enemies that seeks to destroy them all. WARNING: Ends on a cliffhanger! Highly Recommended: Read It!

    4.5 Stars

Picking right up where we left with Wanting Mr. Cane (Cane #1), All heck has broken out and everyone is involved! There’s Blood, there’s a concussion, there’s someone in jail… I don’t know which way to turn!!!

How could love between two be so hard?

Kandy is now at the University of Notre Dame (Go IRISH!!) getting into the grove of living on her own, going to classes, and being a part of the baseball team. The only thing missing is Cane. He is in her head 24/7.

Cane is trying to smooth out so many fires going on in his life. I’m willing to call him up and let him take care of me too…. Just saying 😉 I have fallen for Mr. Cane, he is everything and more.

Just when we think all the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed…

There’s so many people out to get these two.

The ending…OMG never in a zillion years would I have expected this one!!! Pick up that flip phone hidden in your dresser behind toys and undies…Because that text… I NEED BOOK 3 NOW!!!!

The first 40% hurt my soul. They were apart and it just hurt that they were both suffering without each other. BUT then when Cane reappears it’s the best thing ever. First, it’s hot because he gets jealous and second, I love how their love was enough for each other. To keep fighting with one another.

I love jealousy in books especially from hot alphas like Cane, so when Kandy went off to collage and met this boy Brody I wasn’t totally against it. The aftermath with Brody was so freakin sad and frustrating. But I love how Cane steps in never leaving her side.

Canes darker side starts to reveal itself and too much for Kandy that she chooses to stay away from him. Went through so many emotions towards the end.
