10 Minutes in the Word: Psalms Reviews

After reviewing the Proverbs 10 Minutes in the Word, I knew I wanted to get my hands on the Psalms version. This one is formatted slightly differently, because there are so many Psalms. Most of the time, you have to read 3-4 Psalms per devotional. Because of this, I realize that it is harder to get a specific theme from the Psalms than it is from the Proverbs. Perhaps it’s because I’m not as emotional a person, but I found the devotionals to be more along the lines of, “Life is terrible, but God is good; rest in God.” There is nothing wrong with this message, but I would finish reading the assigned Psalms, be reflecting on the mighty power of God displayed in those Psalms, then read the devotional, where it put the focus on daily struggles and trouble. Because I know that many people read the Psalms this way, I’m not faulting the devotional. It just wasn’t quite the same outlook I take on the Psalms. At the same time, I cannot say that the studies are unbiblical at all. They go through the history of the writers of the Psalms, which I found was interesting.
Like I said with the Proverbs study booklet, I love the actual book. The book is a perfect size, of good quality, and the prayers and thought-notes are very helpful. So, while I liked the Proverbs book more, I definitely recommend this book as well.

If you had 10 minutes of free time, what would you do with it? There is a book called “10 Minutes in the Psalms” that is published by Zondervan. . It is a devotional that takes the book of Psalms and breaks it down into 46 days of reading. During this time, you will read about one to four chapters of Psalms each day. There is an overview of each day that ends in questions to ask yourself and think about as you go on about your day.
Reading the Psalms can be so calming. This devotional is meant to accompany reading the Psalms. So, if you have a goal of reading all of the Psalms in a short amount of time, then you should get this book. When broken down into sections, it is easy to sit back, relax and dig into the meaning of God’s Word. That is what you will accomplish when you are reading 10 Minutes in the Psalms. It is very thought-provoking and brilliant. So open the Bible, grab this book and dig in. This is definitely one devotional that you will want to read over and over again. I think you’ll be glad you did.

I’m always curious about devotionals with time promises. I remember when I first became a Christian almost 20 years ago, my first devotional was called 15 MInutes With God and greatly impacted my faith and developing a devotional time. (Sidenote: I wonder what my thoughts would be on that devotional now. I don’t recall anything too controversial, but two decades is plenty of time to change thoughts and views on theology. I’ll keep y’all posted if I do :)).
This pocket-ish size devotional takes a look through Psalms and the devotionals are encouraging. Going through the themes the author of the Psalm wrestled with in a short devo, including a prayer for the reader and ending with questions for the reader to think on in their personal life, this makes for an engaging devotional. One minor thing I wish would have been done differently is to include the full scripture reading along with the devotional. It’s not a major thing (since Bible apps and access to Bibles are in abundance), but more of a preference.
Overall, if you’re looking for a gift book or a devotional for yourself, this one is worth checking out.

This is the type of devotional I savored and plan to reread. Ten Minutes in the Word: Psalms by Zondervan packs a lot of truths to think about and meditate on in the relatively short devotions. You need to read the Psalm (or sometimes several short Psalms) from a Bible since only a few verses are highlighted in the book. There’s also a short prayer for the reader each day and questions to ponder. Highly recommend!
