Thomas Nelson has again added a nice study Bible to its list of publications.

To be fair, Warren Wiersbe has long been one of my favorite speakers and writers. Shortly after beginning my journey as a believer, I began to listen to Warren Wiersbe on the radio as he taught in his “Back to the Bible” program. As I began personal Bible study, I would purchase the “BE” book that paralleled my current study. I still consult these works (albeit, electronic versions) as I do personal study, or prepare sermons or Bible studies for small groups even today.

The Wiersbe Study Bible is actually the second study Bible published with Warren Wiersbe's name attached to it. In 2009 The Transformation Study Bible was originally made available. At the time of its publication, it was said to contain the full text of Wiersbe's “Be ....” series of Bible commentaries. Though I can find no clear statement of how this new book compares to either the commentary series or the earlier study Bible, there does appear to be considerable overlap. Here are two quotes. The first is from the notes found in The Wiersbe Study Bible. The second from Wiersbe’s “Be Worshipful”s commentary on Psalm 28:

    See
    my original review for images.

This passage was selected randomly (i.e. I just opened the Bible), yet the two passages have a great many similarities. Compare the highlighted text from the “BE ...” commentary to the notes found in the Bible text above.

The notes are copious and informative - I was hard-pressed to find a page with no notes. I found one, buried deep in the pages of the book of Numbers; though the opposite page still had its own notes. Notes on most pages consist of cross-references and textual notes. The textual notes normally consist of two or three sentences with background material or application suggestions for the text. Also included are “CATALYST” notes designed to help the reader dig deeper into the text by looking at broader themes and character studies.

The other concern I have with this current study Bible is the “Index of Preaching Outlines” placed at the rear of the book. It does not seem to index anything in this Study Bible, per se. Rather it appears to be a list of chapter titles from Wiersbe's “BE ...” Bible commentaries, though no reference is made to these volumes in the current volume.

There is a lot of material in this study Bible, but much of it seems to duplicate what Wiersbe has written elsewhere. If the reader does not have access to these other resources, then this volume is of immense value; if the material is available either in paper or electronic format, this new edition of the Bible may be of lesser value.

This review is for the NKJV, Wiersbe Study Bible, Genuine Leather, Brown, Red Letter Edition, Comfort Print.

    Physical Review

The brown leather cover is quality. The gold gilting on the outer portion of the pages matches the overall aesthetic of the Bible very well. The main thing I do not like about the Bible is a bright blue ribbon bookmark, which can be replaced. There are three total ribbons, two brown and one cobalt blue, which I think might be more at home in a less neutral-toned Bible.

One thing I enjoy about the Bible is how flat it lays. It is not floppy and is pretty stiff, but that is to be expected from a cowhide Bible. The text is a good size to read, especially since I have trouble with reading smaller fonts.

    Study Notes Review

For fans of Warren Wiersbe, this Bible will be delight. For those unsure who Wiersbe is, this Study Bible will acquaint them with the wisdom this man has shared with the world since he began writing.

I am honestly uncertain what soteriology he holds, but he does seem to hold a high view of God’s sovereignty, and affirms the deadness of man in his sin before regeneration and that salvation is of the Lord.

While there are many notes on doctrine, there is also an emphasis on practical application and what certain passages mean for the individual doing the study. This is beneficial since it is not only the things you need to know about God and salvation, but also things to keep in your mind and heart as you live the Christian life.

    Features:

Thousands of verse-by-verse notes by Dr. Wiersbe
Hundreds of Catalyst notes which more deeply reveal important biblical themes and character issues to motivate transformation by the Holy Spirit through the Word
Book introductions featuring Dr. Wiersbe’s historical background, themes, and practical lessons for each book of the Bible
“Be transformed” section in each book introduction specifically pointing to the life-changing impact of that particular part of Scripture
Thousands of cross references, showing the connections throughout the Bible
Concordance with key words for deeper word study
    Full-color maps
Clear and readable 10.5-point NKJV Comfort Print®

This is such an amazing Bible! There are so many wonderful things about it and I love how it has taken my Bible reading and study to a whole new level!

I have the leather cover and it's so gorgeous and feels so very nice. It's a soft brown color and with the gold edged pages, it's so striking!

Inside is where it gets even better. Warren Wiersbe is one of my favorite Bible teachers and knowing the care and thought he puts into each and every study note assures me that I'm learning the Bible properly. He makes his study notes easy to understand yet brings such depth to my understanding of Scripture.

I really love the large "Comfort Print" as I don't have issues reading the Bible or having my eyes tire. Each and every word is the perfect size and is so easy to read. I enjoyed the book overviews before each book of the Bible as it gave me an understanding of what I'm going to read and insight before I even start. There's a wonderful and extensive concordance in the back that has every possible thing you would need to look up. Plus full color maps to get a visual of where the stories are taking place.

This Bible has every thing I've ever wanted. Study notes by a trustworthy author, easy to read print, extensive information, and more! I absolutely love this Bible and am using it with such joy. I highly recommend this Bible for the reader and/or serious Bible student. It's truly a treasure.

This Bible has a leather-soft cover with a double row of teal stitching. The page edges are silver which compliments the Bible cover. It is a stunning combination. Inside the Bible has two ribbons to mark your place. One is in black and the other is in teal.

The scripture print is mid-sized, clear and easy to read. The study notes print is smaller and a little more difficult to read, but the print is crisp and clear. When open, the Bible lies flat, making it easy to keep your place as you study.

It has a simple, but functional “presented to” page, along with the usual table of contents, concordance and gorgeously illustrated maps at the back.

I liked in particular the preface explaining the features of this Bible. I would recommend you read this first.

    Other things I liked are:
    Red Letter Edition
Outline at the beginning of each book, making it easy to find events
Catalyst Notes-These notes are the heart-beat of the “Wiersbe Study Bible”. It is to help prepare your heart and mind as you study. I have found this to be a true statement.
Sermon Outlines that I found to be helpful.

I am very impressed with this Bible and would definitely recommend it as a study Bible. It would be a great asset to any study library.

Disclaimer: I received this Bible from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, for free to read and review through the blogger review program at Book Look Bloggers. The Wiersbe Study Bible New King James Version (NKJV) is published by Thomas Nelson. I reviewed the hardback version, however, it may also be bought as a Kindle ebook. Special content includes Jesus words in red, book introductions featuring historical background, themes and practical lessons, life-changing “Be Transformed” section. There are preaching outlines, concordance with key words, clear and easy to read comfort print (10.5 size). Also, several colorful maps.

I read the book of John and discovered the print was easy on my eyes, including the print for the cross references and footnotes. The Bible appears to be durable, but it is also heavy. It would make a great tool for individual study however I would not suggest it as a regular church Bible.

The index for preaching outlines appears indepth and informative. The concordance and the maps are helpful in understanding the Bible. Overall, this Bible is easy to use and I recommend it to young Christians and also mature Christians.

A New Study Bible from a Beloved Bible Teacher

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe is one of the most respected and bestselling Bible teachers in modern history. This bestselling author of the BE series of Bible studies passed away this spring.

In THE WIERSBE STUDY BIBLE, Dr. Wiersbe’s years of scholarship and teaching is captured in this single volume. In the Foreword, Dr. Wiersbe says, “Simply reading assigned portions of the Bible each day, as helpful as that is, isn’t enough. A truly transforming experience involves meditating on what you read (Ps. 1:2), studying it carefully in light of other verses, and then obeying what God tells you to do (Josh. 1:8).”

This study Bible has several unique features including Be Transformed in the introduction which directs the reader to the life-changing impart of this portion of Scripture, Catalyst Notes where Dr. Wiersbe points out important biblical themes and character issues, approximately 10,000 expository study notes from Dr. Wiersbe, an index of preaching outlines among other features.

This study resource is combined with the New King James text to become a valuable tool for anyone who wants to grow in their faith. I highly recommend this Bible.

Wiersbe Study Bible is amazing beautiful Bible that will transform your time in the word, the way you spend time with God and you will get more from the Word. This Bible is premium cowhide in large print with red letters. It has over 7800 verse by verse study notes, which I personally love. It has these great index preaching outlines, which are helpful to me for teaching points, Bible studies or just pointing out great discussions. I also love the concordance, cross references and the important Biblical themes through the “Be Transformed” sections.

This Bible also has three beautiful ribbon markers, which is perfect to keep your spot in place for reading in the Old Testament, Psalms/ Proverbs and New Testament. The format of this Bible is very easy to read and is organized in a very thoughtful manner. This is one of those Bibles that is worth every single penny and you will have it for a lifetime. If you are looking for a choice in binding, I recommend the leather hide, but you could also get a different type of binding in order to get these great features from this study Bible. Overall, I give this Bible a 5/5 review. I can’t wait to dig deeper into to God’s word though this Bible.

This study Bible is a New King James version of the Bible with verse commentary taken from Warren W. Wiersbe's "Be ____" commentary series. I have several of the books from this commentary series, and the excerpts are word for word from the book but do not contain the complete book. Someone who has read the commentary series will have previously read the commentary that is in this Bible, but someone who has read all of the Wiersbe material in this Bible will not have read everything that is in the commentary series.

There was also Wiersbe commentary in the introductory, overview section for each book of the Bible and sidebars that contained Wiersbe commentary upon that part of the Bible. The print in the Bible is bold enough and the pages thick enough that all of the text is easy to read even though the actual size of the Bible text is not notably large (or small). This Bible has full-color maps, concordance, etc. in the back. Wiersbe is a conservative teacher and takes the entire Bible as accurate (including Genesis), so I enjoy having his commentary accessible while reading the Bible.

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through BookLook.com.

Warren Wiersbe and his “Be” series is a very popular series on Christian growth and development. It has aided many in their Christian walk and some of his book are used as readings in some of the Bible classes I have taken. Now, with the introduction of the Wiersbe Study Bible, Wiersbe’s thoughts and notes are in a Bible to aid those reading the Bible.

The articles are not lengthy and do not interfere with the reading of the Bible. The study notes are succinct and those who have read the “Be” series will appreciate having notes close to the text.

The Bible itself is well bound and I really liked the silver gilt on the paper. The Bible is a bit on the heavy side so it is most likely not ideal for a lot of carry. The font is the comfort font meaning it is easy to read but please note this does not mean large print font.

All in all this is a nice study Bible and I believe will help those in their Christian walk.

Studying in depth and finding out how another person views thoughts of the Bible is a great pass time. If you are the age where delving into the word of God is enjoyable and want to find a better way to figure your way through a book that can be otherwise super confusing, this is a nice size text and even though there is no way you can finish it in a day, you can get bits and pieces to hold onto and explore for years.
