GREY ROOTS
1938 - On the way from the Highlands of Scotland to London, Gideon Grey and Elouise Bawtry stop off in the West Riding of Yorkshire for him to reacquaint himself with his family, and for her to see where he grew up. Among others, there is an aged great aunt, two cousins with their own business and an eccentric uncle with money problems.
However, tragedy is never very far away, and it is not long before Grey is knee-deep in trouble, with a local folk demon apparently come to life, a Peeping Tom nobody sees, vague tales about a witch in the woods and, worst of all, a murder that is too close to home for comfort.
Unfortunately, as he begins to investigate, Grey is not as welcome as he would have hoped, especially with a pig-headed local policeman to contend with and old family wounds to heal. But it is not long before he is called upon to solve more than just one crime. Which means that Grey and Elouise will be staying in the north much longer than they had planned.
For once, Grey starts to doubt his chances of finding the guilty, as well as his ability to remain objective, as he cannot seem to think straight and it looks not only as though he may have bitten off more than he can chew, but also like the killer might just get away.
