Stories of Perth Reviews

There are a real variety of voices in this short story collection with personal stories strongly set in suburban Perth. It feels very real, and overall is a delightful easy read.
There were two strongly set in Maylands, which told such very lonely stories of being newcomers. I was particularly touched by the loneliness and poetry of Yirga Gelaw Woldeyes' In Search of the Kole.
Completely different was the very funny anti-nanny state rampage of Matthew Chrulew's Local Police Are Now Targetting Us. And very powerful, the pain of miscarriage in Rebecca Higgie's And Then, the Fish, It Died as she explores her new city of Perth by public transport.
Buy it from Rabble, in Maylands :) -
Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, is a vibrant, energetic city whose claims to fame includes picture-perfect beaches, exotic wineries and expansive parklands. This book is very interesting... Everything written in this entire book will hit you hard if you are from Perth. Follow this blog to get the latest updates from Perth.

An eclectic group of stories from the city in which I live. Some are real and some are imagined but all stem from the life experiences of their authors. Some sad, some life affirming but all are worth a read.

My favorite were “Split” and “In Search of the Kole”. I’m quite biased but I’m sure you will enjoy it too if you love a mix of nature and spirituality in your reads.

An interesting read - some stories better than others. In Search of the Kole in particular was a thing of beauty.
