There are two things I’ll never understand: Modern art and straight jocks.
Imagine my disdain when the most Instagram-famous athlete on our university’s swim team, Evan White, shows up to my art class. Oh, and he’s not there to draw like the rest of us...
He’s there to model.
I can’t stand the guy — full of himself, arrogant, cocky, but drop dead gorgeous. We're from different walks of life: I'm a little older, he's still college-aged. I'm wealthy thanks to a business venture earlier in my life, he's still on a dirt-poor college budget. Despite all of our differences, I can create art again just from looking at this guy.
When I’m assigned a semester-long project of drawing one model a thousand times, I’m overwhelmed with temptation so I offer him the job.
I hate him, but I can’t resist him…
EVAN:
Being on the swim team was too time-consuming to get yet another job and I needed a way to make money, quick. So when my roommate suggested a nude modeling gig at the art school, I reluctantly went with it.
Little did I know that Sam Belle — the most pretentious jerk in the world— would be in the class. And I didn’t expect him to make me such an enticing offer…
The only catch is, I have to be around him and his holier-than-thou attitude for an entire semester.
However, I can already see the effect I’m having on him. It makes me feel powerful. And a little taste of power at this point in my life is too tempting to turn down.
Little did I know that it would consume me, and we end up spending Christmas with his rich family in Aspen.
At this point, I'm not sure which of my feelings are part of that power trip and which are real. It turns out that Sam Belle might be exactly what I need...
*Gay for You is a full-length MM novel with a HEA and no cliffhanger. This is an extra spicy MM romance, enough to make a ghost pepper jealous. Some readers may be offended by this content.*

Wow. I don't understand the 1 and 2 star ratings for this (it's at 2.44 stars at the time I'm writing this). It wasn't the best I've read, but I truly didn't think it was that bad (and I totally don't understand the #metoo comment).
This book was a total cliche - that's why I'm only giving it 3 stars. There was absolutely nothing new about it. The two MCs started out basically hating each other, and it rapidly turned to lust, then love (super quickly)... nothing new there. There were some seriously mushy moments. There was a teensy bit of angst. There was a petty ex. There was a judgmental parent. There was a brief foray into dom/sub behaviour (but it died a quick death and never really made a reappearance). All of this and absolutely nothing new... but it was readable. I finished it, and I'm notorious for putting down a book if it doesn't grip my interest immediately.
If you want quick, light, full of PDA fluff with a dash of angst - go for it. Just remember that it's not an epic tale of love and dashing deeds, and you'll be entertained for an hour or two. -
Don't get fooled by the innocent looking cover - this is no sweet or cute romance.
This is an intense, ever-changing roller caster of emotions.
The two go basically from a weirdly intensive stare-off to contempt to fighting to cuddle bunnies.
To be a little too honest, this was not that great a book. But the way everything changed and how intense everything was... it kept me reading. And hey, this could have turned pretty ugly with how "over-compensating" it was but it was not at all annoying.
To give the credit where it's due: the what-it's-called part where things get complicated after being great was not at all pretentious, no complicated complications, just... personal conflict.
This book is for people that like a whirlwind romance, the heroes swept each other off their feet and totally, irrevocably fell in love and there is not much happing besides the plot, the painting is almost just an excuse for him to get naked... everyone from Sam's side was SO understanding and Evan's life was basically a ball of misery before he came along and... well, as I said, it's not perfect but I am pretty demanding and this... this was interesting enough for me to finish it so it's better than some other books and is worth at least opening it and trying a chapter or two. -
~~~
Se nos prometen varios conflictos entre los protagonistas. Evan es heterosexual, pero se le olvida en cuanto conoce a Sam. Evan odia a los atletas engreídos, pero se le olvida cuando convive con Evan. Hay un capítulo de cada quien hablando pestes del otro... pero entonces se les olvida cinco minutos después y ya Sam comprende íntimamente a Evan y Evan se siente muy afortunado por encontrar finalmente a alguien que lo ve por algo más que su físico perfecto... ¿Y dónde quedó la transición entre el desprecio mutuo a la relación seria? La sinopsis promete "extra spicy" pero no lo vi. En la primera visita a casa de Sam, nos mostraron una dinámica de poder y sumisión que prometía justo eso, pero nunca más vuelven a interactuar de esa forma, y en ese aspecto, la trama es más bien descafeinada. Evan no vacila ni una vez por su repentina atracción por un hombre, cuando se nos dice que es un ligador experto entre las mujeres. Y además hay montones de errores de continuidad, desde el cambio abrupto de personalidad de los protagonistas, hasta cosas que dicen claramente al inicio y contradicen más adelante. Los conflictos con la familia de Evan prometían ya que se menciona tanto, pero no pasa de ser anécdota. Lo mismo con la familia de Sam, que supuestamente tiene un pasado tormentoso con su última relación, pero cuando aparece el exnovio, es nada más una escena y bye. También con la familia que estaba en desacuerdo con su profesión como artista, pero no pasa de un regañito de su padre y ya. Sam dice una y otra vez que no le importa el dinero, pero cuando está en amenaza de bancarrota se vuelve loco por tener que cambiar su estilo de vida y corta al novio en la ruptura más absurda del mundo, para luego arrepentirse y buscarlo unas semanas después.
En resumen, la trama prometía mucho pero la ejecución es pésima. Necesita una buena edición para eliminar personajes de relleno que no tienen ninguna trascendencia y hacer que los protagonistas se decidan si están en una relación dom/sub, de sugar daddy, de compañeros del alma que se comprenden y apoyan, o qué, porque no son ni lo uno ni lo otro y a fin de cuentas no queda claro si realmente hay algo más que pura atracción física, porque se la pasan diciéndose lo buenorros que están.
¿Qué Disfruté?
¡Es corto!
¿Qué Prefiero Olvidar?
La trama llega a aburrir de lo mal armada que está. Tenía la esperanza de que remontara, pero no sucedió. -
This was a brilliant book. Sam and Evan are definitely complicated characters but wow they sure did pack a punch together.
Sam and Evan could have not have any more different then you could try. But sometimes that is just what the doctor/universe ordered.
This is an absolute must read book, one you need to experience yourself. You won't regret it, grab it asap.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. -
This book was well-written and interesting, but I found one small problem. It started off with heavy angst from the highly snobby art guy towards the insta-popular swim jock- his disdain for the swimmer seemed to stem from a deeper place. But once they started to hook-up, the disdain and angst melted away without much explanation. Really, that's my only criticism. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this book.
This was a pretty enjoyable story overall. At times I loved it and felt so connected to the characters. At others the story felt off and I can't really explain why. The characters were both likable and seeing their chemistry and love grow was nice. Enjoy.
***I decided to review an ARC of this book.*** -
Wasn't a big fan.
I just thought that the characters weren't fleshed out really well and found it hard to connect with them. The story was all "told" and not "felt" so their chemistry was not believable. -
A #metoo waiting to happen.
Hot and easy
I loved the way the plot and characters developed so eeasily with just a hint of bdsm in it! Very good writing such that you feel the emotion coming off the page! -
Cute HEA book! No real juicy scenes though... very emotional!
Shows potential but ultimately a disconnect.
The story of Evan and Sam could've been great with a little help from an editor skilled in plot & turning point development. This is the second book I've read by this author and shows potential but ultimately falls short. -
