Always Look Twice (Uncommon Justice, #2) Reviews

3.5 stars, personally.
After devouring the first book in this series, I’ve been eagerly awaiting to read this second book. Mainly because of Heath who we saw in “Never Let Go” and how he instantly intrigued me, but also because of Harper being a crime scene photographer.
After finishing this novel, I’ll say that I found them both to be fine characters. They didn’t capture my attention like Willow and Austin from the prior book, but I still enjoyed reading their story. I thought it was really interesting, though, that Heath felt different from the first book. I think that may because of the difference in who is viewing him (his younger brother that looks up to him vs himself). With Harper and her job, I found the crime scene photography parts fascinating. There wasn’t as many parts of that aspect like I was expecting, but that’s because she’s been on leave for a year, after a hard case. Harper was actually harder for me to connect to because of her not wanting to accept help from others and her lack of reason about a possible villain, but other than that, she was fine and I thought the ending was different and wasn’t expecting how it would all go.
I do wish there had been more faith content because there wasn’t much. My main negative, I suppose, would be that Heath and Harper both looked at themselves as “too broken” and not worthy of the other’s love, which I see so much Christian Romantic Suspense that I had to try hard not to be annoyed at them. I wanted them to get over it and lean on their faiths on those parts. Overall, this wasn’t a bad story, I was interested and stayed interested throughout the 300+ pages. I plan to continue the trilogy and read the last book, Liam’s story, soon.

This was my first book by Goddard. But not my last.
It is the second book in a series but It can be read as a stand alone. I did not feel lost at all.
I love a good romantic suspense story, and I was pleasantly surprise by this one.
You have to pick up a copy of this 4 star read, you are going to enjoy the story.

Always Look Twice
By: Elizabeth Goodard
*REVIEW* 📚📚📚📚
Always Look Twice is engrossing and thought provoking from page one. It is second in a series, but I read it as a standalone with no problem. Harper, a crime scene photographer, is taking a break from her job, photographing nature, instead. While visiting a national park near Jackson Hole, Harper inadvertently snapshots a murder and, in fleeing the scene, accidentally drops her camera. Having no evidence or proof to validate what she believes happened out there, Harper finds that no one takes her accusations about a potential murder seriously. No one, that is, until Heath, a childhood friend of Harper's, intervenes on her behalf, and together, he and Harper attempt to solve this maybe murder before Harper becomes the next victim. Both Harper and Heath suffered terrible trauma in the past, shaping who they are today. Life is a struggle, but they carry on, using the negative energy as a propelling force for good. I liked Harper and Heath together because their relationship felt authentic, time tested and true, not forced or shallow. Dialogue throughout was intelligent, sharp and witty. The element of romance, while present, did not cloak the suspense or thrill of the mystery. The author balanced all aspects very well, including vivid and detailed descriptions of the area. I never could quite pin down the bad guy, but I am actually happy about that because the story is so much better when it is truly a mystery. I was intrigued from page one and zipped through the book quickly for some much needed answers! Always Look Twice is a captivating, compelling piece of fiction, and I just know fans of the genre and/or author, Elizabeth Goodard, will delight in this story. -
Well I had wanted to read this book slowly and enjoy it. Sorta didn't turn out that way though. Oh no worries, I definitely enjoyed it but I devoured it in a page turning frenzy.
Each adrenaline soaked page read fueled me on to the climatic ending. Surely not how I would have expected it to end! The suspect was a real wack job let me tell ya and not at all who you would expect.
The female protagonist , an ex crime scene photographer is now a wildlife photographer at the advice of her doctor but keeps involved in the law enforcement community.
Law enforcement is supposed to be hardened to all situations but I do see a vulnerability in her.
There was a romance going but I enjoyed that it was secondary and didn't overwhelm the story.
Now the long wait for the next book in the series but it's so worth it!

An enjoyable read and entertaining romantic suspense. The author is creating a series with recurring characters outside Jackson Hole. In many ways this book felt like a mini-vacation, but one I'd never want to take since the heroine and hero are on the hunt for a murderer and a bomber. I very much enjoyed my time with these characters.

Always Look Twice, the second installment in author Elizabeth Goddard’s Uncommon Justice series, is an action-packed romantic suspense novel filled with unpredictable plot twists and well-written characters. Even though it is the second book in the series, Always Look Twice can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.
While photographing nature scenes in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming, Harper Reynolds unexpectedly captures a murder on camera. She finds herself the killer’s next target while false accusations threaten to derail the investigation. Her childhood friend, deputy Heath McKade, is assigned to protect her, as they frantically search for the killer before he strikes again.
All the clues dropped throughout the novel came together for a satisfying ending. I was able to determine the culprit fairly quickly after the character was introduced, although I began to doubt myself several times as the storyline progressed and various clues seemed to point to another character. I was still shocked at the plot twist toward the end of the novel. That’s what I love about Elizabeth Goddard’s writing…even when I think I have everything figured out, she still manages to surprise me with her unexpected plot twists.
Readers will enjoy the return to the Emerald M Guest Ranch and the opportunity to meet Heath and Austin’s brother Liam McKade, who will have his story told in book 3 of the Uncommon Justice series.

As I read this book I realized more and more that I should have read the first book first. Not because this book can't be read as a standalone. But because I wanted to know more about this world and the McKades.
But I did certainly enjoy Heath and Harper's story. I have to say that I very much did not expect the twist that the plot took. At the beginning it appeared to be going one way, and I will add that it also seemed like just about every suspense book that I had ever read. But then about 50 pages in BAM! It got verrry interesting. Also the villain? I have mixed feelings. He is extremely unique, and I both hate him and like him. Also I guessed wrong who it was and I am very disappointed in myself because come on I had a 50% chance.
Also the excerpt for the next book? O.o
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, all opinions, however, are my own. -
Always Look Twice
(Uncommon Justice, 2)
‘She focused her camera on the killer, taking a kill shot of her own.
This was just a really good book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Elizabeth Goddard continues her Uncommon Justice series with this second book. Harper Reynolds is on a sabbatical from her job as a crime scene photographer after the stresses of the job got to her. She finds that photographing nature brings her peace, but then she looks through her lens and sees a woman murdered. She runs but loses her camera and hurts herself in the process.
Heath McKade, volunteer deputy in the county and owner of a guest ranch house, hears the shot and rides into the area, and is surprised to see Harper, who grew up in the area, but left as a child. Together, they try to figure out what happened and maybe, just maybe can build a life together. However, there is absolutely no evidence that a crime was committed. But soon, danger finds them both, explosive danger.
Goddard hits the ground running with this one and holds the reader’s interest throughout. Her characters are particularly well fleshed out and her descriptions of the locations made me want to visit Wyoming! I was completely vested in this book. I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Romantic suspense novels must have non-stop action with death knocking on the heroine and the heroes door with a budding romance between the two. With Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard, her story does definitely that. From the first chapter, I was thrown into a hair raising situation with Harper and wanted to know how the man behind the shotgun was too. Throughout the entire novel, Goddard did a fabulous job at tightening the noose around Harper's neck. Even so far as to have the police suspect her for a moment. As for the romance, it grew from childhood friendship into something deeper, which is completely predictable for this genre. There wasn't much spiritual elements to the characters. It was a hit or miss moments. Not really that important to the characters or the plot. A little disappointing. I wanted them to have a deeper faith and transform by the end of the novel. As for character's transformation, there really wasn't any. When you meet Harper and Heath at the beginning of the novel, they stay the same by the end of the book. Overall, Elizabeth Goddard crafted a high tension, flowering romance , but the characters really didn't have that deep change moment from their dark moment. Fans of Irene Hannon, DiAnn Mills, and Colleen Coble might enjoy adding this novel to their forever shelves.

Great start to this second book of the series. The action pulled me in right away. It took me a while to figure out who the villain was.
-
Another page-turning, action packed, romantic-suspense by Elizabeth Goddard. Oh my where to start with this one. This series has only gotten better. The dynamic chemistry between Harper and Heath brings the two together in a believable way, you can help but root for them. Throw in a murder and you have a fantastic fast-paced story that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

Another Elizabeth Goddard book I could not put down! With her trademark flare for intense and fast-paced action and suspense, the author creates an intriguing tale where the past and the present coalesce when Harper, a crime scene photographer, returns to her hometown and becomes a target herself when she witnesses a murder. Heath, a guest ranch owner and volunteer deputy, is pleasantly surprised to see his childhood best friend return to their hometown but quickly gets embroiled in the trouble that follows Harper. The villain actually has a voice in the plot but the identity is cleverly concealed until the end. This easy-to-read story that combines a well-crafted plot, plenty of action and suspense, deeply layered and relatable characters, and great character development will draw you in from the first page. It’s book 2 in Uncommon Justice series but can definitely be read as a stand alone.
I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own. -
Wow! Always Look Twice was fantastic! This story quite literally started off with a bang and the danger and tension just didn’t let up. Whether I was frustrated with law enforcement for their doubts about what Harper saw, wondering exactly who was behind all of the death and destruction, or hoping that Harper and Heath could forgive themselves and make a future together, I was eagerly turning pages in this novel to find out what happened next.
The author kept me guessing until the exact moment that she revealed the villain. I am so often able to figure out who the bad guy is early on in stories, that it was refreshing to be able to read most of this book with enough doubt in my mind about who could be behind the chaos.
This is book two in the Uncommon Justice series, however, it can be easily read as a stand alone novel.

Wow, Always Look Twice was quite the thrilling read! There was plenty going on in this story and even though I was highly suspicious of a certain character being the murderer as soon as they were introduced, I can’t say I was completely sure either. I liked that there was a history between Heath and Harper but Heath had issues with self-esteem and worthiness that carried on long throughout this story and, though understandable, not something that I enjoy in a romance interest. It was hard for me to see the attraction which was bit of a turnoff for me. On the bright side, I did like the introduction of Liam, Heath’s brother, and I am hoping that his story is next. Overall, Always Look Twice was a wonderfully suspenseful thriller that kept my interest peaked with its non-stop action and high stakes!

Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series about the McKade brothers.
This story chronicles oldest brother Heath, a former Green Beret and presently owner of a guest ranch and a part-time deputy.
Harper Reynolds and sister Emily are touring National Parks in Emily’s vintage, refurbished Airstream. Harper is taking a break from her job as a crime scene photographer at the suggestion of her therapist. The last stop on their trip is a town they lived in as children, before their father was murdered. Harper, while photographing a grizzly bear, sees something horrifying through her camera lens.
Now someone is out to silence her. With the help and protection of her childhood friend, Heath McKade, she tries to put the pieces of the crime together and keep safe.
This was an extremely exciting book. The scene where the Airstream is barreling down a switchback is utterly terrifying. Ms. Goddard certainly kept me riveted to the story. The scenery is breathtaking and so is the suspense. The details of law enforcement and crime scene are well done. She has done thorough research. Get set for a wild ride. There are surprises in store and a great romance.
There is more to come in the next book about the remaining brother, Liam, just returned from several years undercover.
Highly recommended for fans of exceptional Christian Suspense.

Always Look Twice is a great new book in the Uncommon Justice series that takes place in the wilderness of Wyoming, near Jackson Hole and Grayback. Elizabeth Goddard does a wonderful bringing the setting to life with characters that are real and well developed. It's a return to the area after the prior book, Never Let Go, where we met Heath McKade, owner of Emerald M Guest Ranch, where guests can hike, camp, ride horses and many other outdoor activities. While on a camping trip with guests in the national park, he hears a gunshot and a scream that he decides to check out. He finds a young woman who had fallen on the trail, an old childhood friend, Harper, whose family moved away after the death of her father.
Harper Reynolds is taking a sabbatical from her job as a crime scene photographer with her novelist sister, Emily, traveling around in Emily's old restored Airstream trailer, visiting national parks. Harper needed a break her job, only while photographing nature shots along the river in the park, she witnesses a murder near where Heath and his group are camping. She was trying to leave the area because the killer saw her through the scope on his rifle when she fell.
This is an action packed story where it soon becomes apparent that the shooter is trying to kill Harper because she witnessed the murder. But there is not a body and any evidence was washed away after a rainstorm. There have been bombings in the area that is already taxing the local sheriff's office so this adds more tension.
I enjoyed trying to figure out who could be the culprit, who could be trusted and who couldn't. Great suspense and mystery, romantic tension, emotional healing and faith make this a great story that is a page turner to the end. I highly recommend it!

SCINTILLATING!!
Elizabeth Goddard has cemented her place among the few trusted authors that I “go-to” for Romantic Suspense. Their romances are always intense but you don’t have to worry about reading anything that will embarrass you. And the suspense - I’m not someone who EVER gets afraid of anyone or anything. However, last night as I sat intently reading ALWAYS LOOK TWICE, my dogs (all three of them) alerted to something at the front door. I almost jumped off the couch! Funny thing is they alert all the time! The joke is they alert if a leaf blows! I always feel safe because they’re big dogs (Labs). To me, that was the epitome of suspense - she made me jump!
Goddard’s plot was rock solid, perfectly blending the conclusion of Book 1 into Book 2. Her characters are complex and realistic. Her word pictures invite you into the story and make you feel as though you are an integral character in the story. Her God-gift for storytelling will draw you in from page 1 and keep you riveted to the pages until the last word. Unfortunately, reading this book is hazardous. It will keep you from wanting to anything else but read it in its entirety from start to finish!
I was provided an ARC of this book by Baker Publishing. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. -
With an intense opening chapter that immediately draws you into the story, Always Look Twice ramps up the danger and mystery from the get-go. And then we find out Harper and Heath were childhood friends (and Harper may have had a little crush on said friend when she was twelve).
Both of these characters carry guilt and blame themselves for events in their past they had no control over. Neither feels like they can commit to a relationship, yet, despite their best efforts, the pull of attraction supersedes their intentions.
Elizabeth Goddard managed to keep me changing my mind about who the guilty party was, and there were a few surprises in their too. That, in my opinion, makes a memorable read.
Plus, all of the characters (even the supporting ones like Harper’s sister, Heath’s brother, and several members of law enforcement) are well-rounded and integral to the story.
Romantic suspense fans, Always Look Twice is a must-read.

Wow! What a wild ride! This book was so good! I really didn’t want to put it down! I was hooked in chapter 1. I really enjoyed the characters and their struggle to find the killer. I was really surprised by who the killer was. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Childhood friends reconnect in “Always Look Twice”, by Elizabeth Goddard (Revell), a romantic suspense story with more action and twists and turns than romance.
Heath and Harper are great characters, who share a strong, beautiful connection dating from childhood and realize when they meet again that they’re still “kindred spirits”. They’re both been broken and damaged by traumatic events in their lives and find healing with each other; Heath’s desire to shield and please Harper, still haunted by homicide survivor’s guild, gives him an endearing Beta touch. Heath himself has to deal with his own feelings of misery.
In the beginning I was immediately drawn in by the tension -filled events but later I felt the story was a bit scattered and convoluted and could have ended earlier. Some police methods and procedures and actions by law enforcement characters seemed a bit questionable.
Unfortunately, I thought there may have been a little too much suspense and not enough romance; because the displays of affection by both Heath and Harper showed caring and kind people whose connection though always came second to the action. -
Talk about the edge of your seat, yes, this one will grab you right from the beginning, and it doesn’t let go until the last page is turned.
You won’t get to comfortable and you won’t think you know the ending, no, not possible, this one is non-stop action, and then more!
Now this is the second book in this series, and they are connected by location and brothers, but they are really stand alone, but don’t miss either of these they are excellent, and there is another brother!
Beautiful area of our country, and we experience this in a way, um, you probably wouldn’t really want to, but the author has used a great back ground for this read!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review. -
Just the first chapter grabbed me and didn’t let go…
“Harper Reynolds inched forward, hoping she hadn’t made a mistake in coming there. After she positioned her camera on the tripod, she zoomed in closer with her long telephoto lens.”
She just wanted a peaceful, serene environment to take pictures of nature and then…
“She focused her camera on the killer, taking a kill shot of her own.”
Wow… What an opening! A bear, a killer, and a witness...made for a great mystery. Returning to her hometown was never so dangerous! As Harper tries to escape from the killer she is injured. In steps her former childhood friend, Heath McKade. As a former Green Beret, now he is a volunteer deputy who tries to keep her safe and yet at arms length. They both struggle with past issues of hurt and trust. Can they overcome both before the killer finds them? Can they trust God enough to draw them together? The faith element was beautifully written into the story. As they grow in their faith, they worry what will happen next. A killer is hiding in their community and only they know the answers. As old secrets are revealed and bigger issues come out in the open, an ending with a twist will leave you stunned!
Though the characters struggles were real, I did get frustrated at times at how much they focused on the past. I loved when they finally stepped into the present and allowed healing. It reminds us of how easily we get stuck in the past instead of focusing on all God has for us.
Mystery, suspense, and fans of romantic adventure with s faith element will love this book. I can’t wait for the next release in the series.

Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is a romantic suspense book. This is book 2 in the Uncommon Justice Series, but the story stands alone.
Harper is a crime scene photographer who has taken some time off to heal at the suggestion of her therapist. I am happy to see more authors adding in that their characters are seeking help. I think it helps people/readers understand that it is okay and more common than they may realize.
Harper is healing from a current situation and from her childhood drama of being a homicide survivor. She is taking pictures of wildlife when she witnesses a murder. The police cannot find evidence that a crime has happened.
Harper is saved by a childhood best friend and hero, Heath. They both survived traumatic childhoods and have a special bond. Heath owns a ranch and volunteers with the sheriff. He had been a green beret so he was totally qualified to protect her.
The mystery was very good. We had plenty of suspects and plot twists. The secondary characters were well placed and added another layer to the story.
The romance was a little too melodramatic for me. I totally understand the guilt perspective. But do people really get out of relationships because they think they are not good enough for each other. It was too much of a yo-yo for grown-ups, in my opinion.
I assume this is a series. We have some unresolved issues. One of them is was Heath’s dad drunk during the crash or not. And if we are lucky, the next book will be Liam’s.
Sexual content - kissing
Violence - she sees someone be killed, she is a crime scene photographer so there is that violence, and someone is trying to keep her quiet, there were some bombs, nothing that was disturbing

Elizabeth Goddard has cost me sleep again with Always Look Twice, Book Two of her Uncommon Justice series. Just when I thought I could put the book down and go to sleep, Goddard threw in another twist that kept me reading. And when my power went out, I found a flashlight and kept reading.
The heroine, Harper Reynolds, is recovering from PTSD caused by all the violence she’s seen in her career as a crime scene photographer. Even though she was fragile emotionally, she was brave enough to face down a bear and save the hero in the first chapter! And when she captures the murder of a woman with her camera, she is determined to see justice done for the victim.
Heath McKade was a great hero. Strong, silent type, he risked his life more than once to protect Harper. What I like best was that he always believed her when others thought she’d made up the murder.
This is a fast-paced romantic suspense that hits all the bells. You won’t regret investing time to read it. I received a copy of this book with no promise to review it, but it was so good, I wanted everyone to know abou it. -
Always Look Twice ( Uncommon Justice Book #2 )
By: Elizabeth Goddard
Always Look Twice is book two in Uncommon Justice Series. Another page turner of action and suspense that keeps you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. The story and the characters both are well written. I was captured right at the start and did not want to put it down. You just don’t know what a day of nature and picture taking will turn into . This book is full of action, danger , murder, mystery, and suspense. This is a wonderful read and the author keeps you guessing till the end.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that i had to give a positive review. All opinions are mine. -
*received from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed*
I loved the first book in this series, so much, that I was excited to see this book on offer from Revell, and thrilled to learn I was getting a copy. And the book did not disappoint!
Once again most of the action takes place in Grayback, Wyoming, and the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Harper is a crime scene photographer who has taken a sabbatical from photographing crime scenes to photograph nature instead. But while photographing a bear, she inadvertently witnessed a murder – a man shooting a woman. That first chapter brought the action on quick, and the pace continued throughout the book. When the shooter turns his sights on Harper, Heath McKade comes to the rescue. Harper and Heath were best friends as kids, but haven't seen each other since Harper's father was murdered and her mother moved her and her sister, Emily, away.
We met Heath in the first book, which was about his brother, Austin. Austin ticked a lot of boxes for me – former FBI agent, cowboy, a secretive tortured hero – and Heath ticked those same boxes, except instead of former FBI agent he's a part-time deputy, which works just as well. He's also a cowboy, running a guest ranch, and while not particularly secretive he's still a tortured hero, with emotional wounds that run deep.
Ms. Goddard is very good at keeping tensions high! There is a harrowing ride in a camper, and every time Harper was out anywhere I was constantly on edge waiting for a rifle shot to occur. As in the first book, the characterizations are very well done, as is the narrative descriptions. Not to mention the descriptions of Harper taking photos and some of the process she uses for documenting crime scenes. We also meet Liam, another brother, partway through the book, and I'm very excited to know that his book is coming next.
I know it sounds cliché to say, but this book is truly a thrill ride from beginning to satisfying end -
Ever wonder what makes people do certain thing to people? Why the motive? I sure do!
This book was just totally awesome! I just couldn't put it down!
Y'all this book had me turning the pages quickly to see who the killer was and if Heath and Harper would reunite!
There are many twists and turns along the way and Elizabeth does a fabulous job in keeping us guessing who it is and why.
I love that her characters are flawed because along the way they learn a few things about life.
I felt bad for Harper. I can't imagine what she is going through. Heath is the same way.
I love Harper's sister Emily. I think she's a cool supporting character.
Sheriff Taggart I didn't trust him with a 10 ft pole! I couldn't at first understand what his problem was until I finished the book!
You'll be surprised when you find out who it really was! I know I was!
I have a question for y'all!
Do you tend to keep secrets until they eventually come out years later or do you just want to clear the air now?
Will Heath and Harper be able to cope once they do?
Find out in this new exciting adventure just waiting to be read! I guarantee that you won't be disappointed!
