The Next Common Sense: The e-Manager's Guide to Mastering Complexity Reviews
-
Lissack and Roos provide a thoughtful look at management in a sea of change. The basic gist of the book is that the new holistic systems view is more useful than the old reductionistic view. Okay, got it. So what should we do once we accept this gem that holistic management rocks? That's a good question: I can't say that the book answered the question except by offering some general advice to think and act more holistically.
The book's subtitle promised a "guide to mastering complexity." I would challenge the authors to show how the material in this book would lead anyone to mastery.
Who could benefit by reading this book? An experienced manager would probably not see much here but fluff. A new manager would not see much here with practical application. However, the book would probably be useful to someone working in the area of philosophy of management.
