Tyler (Montana Creeds, #3) Reviews

  • Angela (Angel's Guilty Pleasures)

This is my first book by Linda Lael Miller.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I wasn’t expecting for our hero Tyler to get a free pass on what happened 13 years ago with Lily. Tyler is home to face his past and face the Creed demons that plague him.

Enough is enough! I really should have put this down, but I hit that 50% mark and was like well I’m this far, maybe, just maybe something will happen….

This was my first book by Linda Lael Miller and I'm not quite sure what I should say. I know she has written a zillion books so I'm aware she is quite popular but this one...

    Ok, here goes...

First of all, there were a dozen little plots that all centered around the hero, Tyler Creed. Tyler is on his way home to Montana after being on the rodeo circuit for about 12 years...where he became famous. We meet him in the parking lot of Walmart where he is swapping his brand new Escalade for an old man's beat-to-hell pickup truck. Why did he do that, you ask? Damned if I know. It never comes up. He DOES cuss the old truck out since it blows up about a mile away, and a few days later he stops at a dealership and buys a brand-new truck with leather upholstery, custom tires, sound system, etc. Go figure. Anyway, as he is walking down the highway with Kit Carson (a stray dog he found), his ex-girlfriend, Lily, sees Tyler & stops to pick him up. She just happens to be on her way home for the first time in 12 years also (to tend to her father who is recovering from a heart attack). Since Dad & Lily's 6yr old daughter, Tess, are also in the car, Dad, Tess & Tyler chat for the duration of the ride. End of scenario.

Next, Lily is doing some reflecting and we find out that Tyler, who she dated for several years (the love of her life) but never had sex with, was sleeping with a woman 15 years his senior the entire time he was with Lily. What a despicable cad! Tyler was only a teenager, however, so I'm willing to let him grovel his way back into Lily's heart. Never happened. What did happen was that Tyler asked Lily out to dinner...they got in the truck and as they drove away, Tyler says "let's just skip the dinner & get down to business". Umm...Lily agrees. All of a sudden they can't go a mile further...Tyler pulls over, tosses up Lily's dress and gives her about 10 orgasms. Not once is his betrayal mentioned or remembered, nor is any mention made that this is their first time having sex after all those frustrating years they refrained (ahem...)

*I'm thinking Lily should see a shrink*

The next day Lily and her father make peace - they were estranged for all the years she was away because he ignored her and never told her why. Of course she assumed he didn't love her, but he assures her it was quite the opposite -he drove her away because he didn't want her to be near Tyler. Huh? A father-daughter 5- minute chat might have been a viable alternative to 13 years of silence. But Lily understands why her dad was so mean to her because he knew she would've taken Tyler back without question.

*Where is Frasier when you need him?*

Jump to Tyler who is checking out the cabin his late father left him. Lo and behold there is a frightened teenager hiding there with a tat on his neck & several piercings. Hmm...he's got that sexy Creed smile and he is about 13. Could it possibly be...? Say it isn't so. LMAO

Tyler & Lily go on a second "date" a few nights later. Yup. Out to the cemetery to have sex. What the heck? Maybe 13 years ago that would have been acceptable, but what's wrong with a no-tell motel for the 30-something duo? At the peak of his climax, Tyler asks Lily to marry him. She agrees enthusiastically. "Uh, by the way Lily" says Tyler, "there's this kid I found and I think he's mine" He doesn't explain why he thinks that, but Lily's a smart girl and she'll catch on. Yessir! Ever the trooper, Lily has no problem there. WTF??? I have a problem there! In fact, I had one on the first "date" when he couldn't bother to take her to dinner first. I assumed they had MUCH to discuss before getting busy. Not so. Did I mention they were having unprotected sex because Tyler said he was clean (ROTFLMAO) and Lily was positive she couldn't get pregnant again because she and her ex-dead husband had tried for years after the birth of their daughter. With great reasons such as theirs, what could possibly happen? haha Lily never expected her mother-in-law to call the very next day and tearfully admit she had found some papers among her son's personal belongings that proved he had a secret vasectomy. Oops!!!

Meanwhile, Tyler is busy writing out a check for $100,000 to buy the teen from his creepy mother....

Ok, enough is enough. You might be wincing at all the spoilers but believe me I haven't even scratched the surface. This book did nothing but leave me wanting for a GREAT Western romance; and, since cowboys aren't usually my thang, I have no clue where to look next. I gave this book 3 stars mainly because it was an audio book, so I didn't waste any "valuable" time reading and I enjoy the narrator (who also read Sarah McCarty's Hells Eight series). Overall, the book wasn't awful but suspending disbelief became a serious struggle. With the hope that this was an "off" book for LLM, I'll read something else by her (provided it comes highly recommended).

Considering how many books Linda Lael Miller has written, you'd expect some books to be better than others, but wow. This one contained a magical sexual technique causing female orgasms in public by touching only a woman's hand, which is over the top for even this author. The heroine, Lily, has no problem getting back together with Tyler although he dated her while sleeping with someone else. She never asks him about this and the entire infidelity issue is never addressed between the characters. In fact, no one, including her father, sees this as a potential problem at all.

  • Anna

There is this hot guy who comes back at home with a chip in his shoulder and meets again his young love. He is hotter than hot. And he has had an alcoholic father and a suicidal mother. Girls, let’s heal him!

There are two scenes so utterly ridiculous that will stuck with me for life

    :
    1. An orgasm induced by his mere proximity in the supermarket. I think he touches her arm with his finger.
    2. Him asking her to marry during an orgasm and wondering if the yes is to I want to marry you or if it’s yes keep going.

The emotional development is non-existing. In spite of the fact that since the last time they met, both have been married and widowed, and, in theory, grown up, they act as a pair of horny teenagers.
Good for them. Boring and pointless for me.

I think of the three Montana Creed books, this one was probably my favorite. It had a little extra zing to it. Tyler, for as stand-offish as it was, came off rather endearing. And the romance between him and Lily was excellent.

Montana Creeds: Tylers is the 3rd book in Linda Lael Miller's Montana Creeds series which is about 3 brothers who have been estranged since the death of their father. It's important to note that this series should be read in order. The books are pretty connected.

Tyler is the youngest of the Creed brothers, and he's the one having the hardest time getting over what happened between him and his brothers after their father died. So he's pushed away any attempts from Logan and Dylan to reconcile. But lately, he's been feeling a need to return to his roots and to do some serious thinking. Which leads him back to Stillwater Springs. He'd hoped to sneak back into town with no one noticing, but luck isn't with him.

Before he even hits the town limits, he runs into Lily Ryder Kenyon, his teenage sweetheart and the girl whose heart he broke by having an affair with an older waitress. Then he finds a battered, rebellious teenage boy hiding out in his cabin...worse, he comes to realize that the boys mother is the waitress he slept with around just the time the boy would have been conceived. So the stealthy visit he planned to his cabin turns into something else because he can't seem to stay away from Lily and he has to know if the boy is his son.

Hmm...I took a moment just now to peruse some of the other reviews of this book. And it got me thinking. Some of the criticisms about the book are correct. Which makes it hard to decide on a rating for this book. I really enjoyed it a lot and found it to be an easy read. But there were some story aspects that were neglected. For me, they didn't ruin the story, but if they'd been addressed, I think this book (and the series as a whole) would have been 5-star reads.

On the plus side, this book us rather steamy, much more so than the first two. Lily and Tyler are hot together. I admit I was a little surprised by the sexiness of the story. Didn't put me off, of course, just surprised me.

And I enjoyed a lot of other aspects of the book - Tyler having a hard time coming to terms with what happened between him and his brothers and accepting that his dad really was a bastard. Lily working things out with her Dad and deciding where she really wanted to be. The romance between them. Tyler finding out he might have a teenage son and all the things associated with that. All those things made the story rather engaging for me.

Like I said, though, in reading some of the other reviews on this book, I agree that there were some things that could have been done better. The resolution of the problems between the brothers was done rather subtly...more along the lines of "okay, I'm over it. Let's move on" when some serious discussion would have made things more solid. And Tyler never talks to them about things he went through (like being married before and having his wife die). In all three books the brothers just never really talk that deeply and it does take something away from the renewed relationship between them.

One other thing that bothered me a little was that there was a bit too much symmetry between the three books. All three involve a single parent. All three have custody issues to a varying degree. All three have the hero proposing out of the blue for a reason other than being in love (at least they wouldn't admit that was the reason). All three had the hero taking in a stray dog.

It was just a little too much common ground. It's one thing to tie the stories together with a similar theme, but another to repeat too many main themes. But it didn't bother me all that much. I could mostly overlook it because I enjoyed the stories so much. Still, I wouldn't have minded a little more variety.

This was a still a great series, though. It's not perfect and could have used some tweaks, but I had fun reading all three books. Miller has a way of writing a story that makes me want to keep reading.

Sweet, sexy romance and nice family story. Lol at the Walmart scene.

Montana Creeds: Tyler by Linda Lael Miller is the third and final book in her Montana Creeds contemporary western romance trilogy about three brothers.

It's youngest brother Tyler Creed's turn to take center stage in this book. Tyler has finally decided to come home to the family ranch to figure out a few things, like his relationship with his older brothers Logan and Dylan. Along the way, he reconnects with Lily Kenyon, the girl whose heart he broke when they were kids. Lily is now widowed with young daughter, but she's never stopped loving Tyler. But complicating matters is a young boy who's being abused by his mom's boyfriend -- a boy who may or may not be Tyler's son ...

I like Miller's books a lot, but I definitely thought this was the weakest book not only in this trilogy but that I've read by her. I just didn't think there was very much romance in this one. Tyler asks Lily out, and before you know it, he's asked her to marry him. Their relationship happened way too fast for me.

Also, the kicker is that Tyler cheated on Lily when they were dating when they were younger -- and he might have a son with the woman he cheated with. Tyler tells Lily that the boy might be his, and she just accepts it with really no amount of fuss or even hurt. That rang a little false to me. There's also some question about whether the boy and his mom are trying to con Tyler or not, and of course, the mom's abusive boyfriend has it in for Tyler. There was a lot going on in this book, but not enough time devoted to any of the plots.

It was nice to see Tyler finally make up with his brothers, and the book ends with a sweet epilogue, but those things weren't enough to save this book for me.

  • Sandy M

This is the brother in the series who is the most hurt, both by his brothers and by his parents. The youngest of the three, Tyler refuses to come home to make up with his siblings, but when he finally gets back to the ranch, there’s more waiting for him than he could have ever guessed. Not only is Lily back in Stillwater Springs, but he happens upon a young boy who may be his son.

Lily left town years ago with a broken heart after Tyler went from her bed to another woman’s, but now a widow with a daughter in tow, she’s home taking care of her ailing veterinarian father. It takes no time at all for her to realize she’s still in love with Tyler, but with so many things working against them, including a son by the woman he chose over her years ago, will they really have a chance to make a life together?

This is my favorite of the three books, but only by a hair. There’s just more hurt to be salved in Tyler’s story, so it was much more emotional for me than the other two. As with the first two couples, Tyler and Lily have a lot to work out, but they are a great couple and end up sticking together with each other and this big new Creed family that has grown so much. And that’s what was fun about all three books, seeing a seed planted with Logan being the first to come home and then at the end of the series, this family has healed itself, has grown into a healthy and happy bunch and will leave a legacy for generations to come.

    Not my favourite

    3 stars

Not my favourite of the series.

I spent the start of the book finding myself disliking the two MCs so that made it hard to connect with them. Tyler had a chip on his shoulder a mile wide and I found Lily to be a stick in the mud. Look I eat healthy too and mainly vegetarian but I don’t force it on others and I felt like I was being preached too a little here as the meal selection was continually discussed.

By the end of the book Tyler had gotten rid of the chip and that made him more likeable and I think I just got used to Lily. I also didn’t like that they broke up originally because he was sleeping with someone else, but they never had a discussion about it and she never questioned trusting him again.

I’m glad I read the three books but I think I’m going to stop here

  • Olmar Letnahs

The ever-elusive 2 stars. You've earned it, book.

I've read worse books, but never one that annoyed me so much. First of all, this is insta-love at its worse. The two main characters meet, have a long night of (hot?) sex, then the next day are engaged to be married. And nobody has a problem with that. Her dad is overjoyed, her young daughter is excited to move into a trailer away from everything familiar, and his brothers are congratulating him at every turn. It's so ridiculously unrealistic, and it drives me nuts. And don't tell me that they loved each other in high school, because it's been a decade, a failed marriage for both of them, a career in Hollywood of all places, and a kid. People change, and these two people have no business jumping right back into things like they're still in high school.

Then there's the horribly convoluted plot. Nothing really ever happens, except for some drunk guy driving a semi truck into his cabin, which I think was supposed to serve as the climactic action? It gets a question mark, because there's not a second of worry that the characters will actually get hurt, there's no emotional turmoil, and they wanted to bulldoze the cabin anyway! Win-win! Grr.

Last but certainly not least, this is a ball of sickening fluff. It's like the author can't bear to write in any sort of struggles for her characters, and we the readers end up suffering for it. Everybody in this book is super rich, rich enough to just pack up and sell their cars, apartments, and belongings with no worry, and to bulldoze a cabin and immediately start putting in a house with absolutely no forethought. I usually don't have a problem with the rich hot guy trope, but this book really makes it sickening. And thanks author, we get that you like kids and animals, but does every woman in this book need to be barefoot and pregnant to feel happy? For god's sake, the book ends with an info dump about every single one of the Creed wives and their new babies' names and their happy children. There's nothing wrong with having kids in your epilogue, but this is a prime example of the wrong way to do it. Finally, the thing that bugs me the most - the "cowboy" culture. I'm from the high plains, I talk to real cowboys all the time and they DO NOT act like the Creed men. They don't jet off to become high-powered lawyers or movie stars and then decide that they miss the "big open Montana skies." If you want to write about cowboys, write them the right way.

This book is downright terrible, and I will absolutely never be reading anything by this author again. Now I need to go and find one of my old favorites to get this crap out of my system.

  • Stephanie Bowen

Lily's father has a heart attack. She returns home to small town Montana to take care of him bringing her 6 year old daughter, Tess. She soon runs into her high school love Tyler Creed who has also recently returned home. Lily and Tyler quickly resume their relationship and are soon engaged. Lily returns home to Chicago to sort out her affairs and get things ready to move. Tyler discovers that he fathered Davie with a waitress, Doreen, whom he had been sleeping with during high school while dating Lily. Tyler agrees to raise Davie and pays Doreen $100,000 as compensation. Lily is fine with the arrangement. Lily discovers that her previous husband, to whom she was going to divorce but who committed suicide by flying his plane into a bridge, had a vasectomy but never told Lily. He was also cheating on her with several women. Tyler resolves his issues with his mother's suicide- learning that she was cheating on Jake and Jake killed her, making it look like a suicide- and with the fact that although he is a Creed, he doesn't have to be like his father was.

A decent read. A few unnecessary cuss words in my opinion, but a good story.

    **update** 6/26/18
I'm going through my personal library, a goal/challenge I have set for myself before going to an outside source to get a book. I have a pile of L.L. Miller books, but apparently I'd already read this one a while back. Don't remember much about it, even after reading the synopsis. But I imagine it was not or is not much different than the 1st and 2nd (which I am currently reading).

She (L.L. Miller) has a way with words in all the books I've read by her, so much so that I would love to see something a little more "deep and meaningful".

  • Jenny

This is perhaps the steamiest book of the series. I was blushing while reading it. Tyler said some things that would make any woman blush. And pardon me for what I'm about to say...stop reading if you're a prude. I realize this book probably qualifies are a trashy romance novel so I should know what to expect. But I dislike the fact that the female character, Lily, repeatedly kept saying "Do me." Really...that's just tacky. I mean this particular series actually has some substance to it but by her repeatedly saying "Do me" it just cheapens the series. Does that make sense?

  • Christel

of the 3 Montana Creeds books, I believe I like this one the most. Both characters had alot to work through and come to terms with. Tyler his father's and mother's deaths and Lily the death of her Husband. Whew! and the sex was hot too. Not a typical Miller read to me though seems like she branched out and I enjoyed this book immensely, especially the eplogue at the end of the book. All 3 books are definately keepers for my bookshelves.

  • Maria

The last in the Montana Creed series, this one was not quite as good as the first but better than the second. The plot line was less rushed but still in too much of a hurry. There was no time to really get involved. During the last third of the book, Lily and Tyler weren't even in the same town much, each dealing with their individual lives. There needed to be more after Lily got back from Chicago instead of the quick wrap-up.

  • Dawn ♥ romance

Overall I enjoyed this story. The plot was good and I liked all the interactions with kids and family but I didn't care for the relationship. Believing the hero loved the heroine, after the way he behaved in high school, was a stretch and the quick restart just wasn't realistic. Lily returns to her hometown to take care of her ill father and picks up old boyfriend Tyler on the road after his car broke down.

  • Mareli

Good. I have to say I missed the feelings between Tyler and Lily because there was a lot of sex (unprotected sex but hey we're in HPland ;) ).

But I love this familiar aura in those books. Lots of children, dogs and good feelings.

I liked this author very much so I decided to delve into her books and keep reading.

  • Mitch

This was a great read, couldn't put it down. All 3 of the Montana Creed books are good but I really liked this one the most.

  • Marie

Lacked romance, actually, there was no romance. Lily needs a backbone, bad! She is a wimp that accepts anything Tyler throws at her. Not really believable.

  • Deborah Gebhardt

The last book in this series about 3 half-sibling brothers. The brothers grew up hard with an alcoholic father, each boy having a different mother. They had a knock-down drag out alcohol-fueled fight following their father's funeral, and for all intents and purposes they haven't seen each other since.
Tyler, the youngest and wildest of the 3 brothers has returned home to Montana, with a grudge against his brothers, particularly Logan, the oldest, with the stigma of his father, his mother's suicide and the guilt of his wife's fatal auto accident, Tyler is less than happy or content.
Fifteen years ago, he had a high school girlfriend who adored him, who's heart he broke when she found that he was having an affair with a waitress fifteen years his senior. Lily, is retuning home as well, to take care of her ailing father, and picks up a hitchhiking Tyler on her way into town.
Lily has never forgotten or fallen out of love with Tyler, despite having married and had a daughter, and she doesn't have any trouble taking up with him (which is pretty weird as I agree with another reviewer, it is never explained why Tyler was seeing the waitress and he never apologizes) now that they're back in the same vicinity.
But, Tyler found a thirteen year old boy living in his shack, a boy who just happens to be the son of the waitress. Could the boy be Tyler's son, and if so, could his existence threaten Tyler's relationship with Lily?

  • Teri-K

So, while clearing out the house, sorting through everything we've ever owned, and deciding what to keep, I definitely needed something to listen to. Perhaps feeling a bit drawn back to my childhood, I settled on Western romances, and this is my third Creed book in a row. (I really like the narrator. lol) I didn't like this quite as much as #2, but it's better than #1.

I really liked the MCs in this book, they were interesting and Lily was a bit different from the usual. They both made sense throughout the book, which I appreciate, as consistency helps a story to be believable to me. And the two younger kids were a nice touch. Lily has a father and mother-in-law who were added to the story, too. The only thing that bothered me was occasionally I thought the writing got a little florid/melodramatic, and suddenly one of the MCs was thinking like a romance character, not a normal person. I don't care for that, but fortunately it never lasted. Still it pulled me out of the story, so I can only give this book 3 stars. And I still skip the sex scenes, so I can't comment on those, can only say there were just a few. :)

  • Kim

It looks like there were mismatched information in between books. The most obvious one was Jim’s ex-wife, from Katherine to Caroline in Tyler’s book.

Then the number of years, Logan’s said 12 and then from Dylan to Tyler it was just 5 years. To think I completed these books in 3 days, it’s not as if I forgot the details.

    From Logan’s book:

“When the judge let me out of jail after that brawl with Tyler and Dylan, he told me not to show my face in Stillwater Springs until I’d cooled down.”

“It took you twelve years to cool down?”

    From Dylan’s book:

“Give me some credit, Dylan,” Logan rasped. “I told him because I knew he’d take off and I might not get a chance to talk to him for another five years.

“If you hadn’t broken his guitar after Dad’s funeral—”

Maybe because I bought book 1 on amazon and book 2 & 3 via Google playbooks? Uggh, so weird.

It affected the overall impact I had with the 3rd book. Also, not convinced in the romance between Lily and Tyler, they were mostly going at it and not much connection and conversation.

This might be the last book I’ll read from this author.

Tyler Creed was a great Rodeo star, but needed a break from stardom and decided to return home to his family farm. This was hard for him as he shared the farm with his two estranged brothers. They all had lots of skeletons to deal with, but he needed to work things out in his life to move forward.

At same time Lily is forced to return home to come take care of her father. She and her father also had some major family things to work thru. Lily had no idea that Tyler would be home at the same time as her. Seeing him after so many years shook her to her core. Lily was defenseless when it came to anything regarding Tyler.

After one dinner date so many years later things take off hot and heavy. Everyone wishes that some handsome cowboy would sweep them off their feet. It's a great read with some real life problems in it as well.

I like cowboy books now and again, and this was no exception. Tyler has a trailer-load of issues, but he's come home to deal with at least some of them. On the way he picks up a stray dog and a stray kid. Both make for a good share of the humor in this book. Lily has her own wars to fight as she comes home to tend her dad, but that relationship mends pretty fast, and Lily's child Tess is a winner. All in all, there's a lot of sex, a little mystery, some danger, and a lot more sweetness than I'd have expected in a cowboy story about an ex-rodeo man with an alcoholic and abusive father.

  • TinaMarie

Tyler and Lily had a thing until Lily caught Tyler cheating on her with an older woman. Fast forward she's a widow with a daughter returning to town after her father had a heart attack. Tyler has family issues but he's returned to town to get back to his roots and she finds him on the road after his truck broke down. Some of the story elements can only happen in a romance novel but it was a sweet read, with hot chemistry.
