Ava Lewis can take care of herself. That's what she's been determined to prove to herself, and her well meaning, but sometimes overbearing family, her entire life. And now that she's been provisionally accepted into NYU's law school, she's on her way to making all of her dreams come true. But in order to afford these dreams, she has to make ends meet. And she gets an unexpected job offer in the form of Nick Jansen. When five-year-old twins are left in his care while their guardian goes off on a month-long honeymoon, he knows he can't handle the rabble-rousers on his own. And that's where Ava comes in.
After a broken engagement, and some words of dis-encouragement from his jaded mother, Nick has accepted that he's meant to be alone and the world would be better off for it. But as the kids warm to Ava, so does he, and he starts to feel some of the ice around his heart melting away.
However, when Ava's law school admission is jeopardized, Nick's need to fix things threatens her independence and her dreams of carving out the life she wanted. But if there's one thing Ava and Nick both have to learn, it's that they might not get the life they want, but they have the love they need.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I liked the first series well enough, but thought that it had finished on a good note and was not expecting any other stories. So imagine my surprise when a second set of friends got dubbed the No Brides Club and here we go again!
This story was actually interesting, as it talked about career options for those with an early childhood education background beyond the typical child care positions, and that was my chosen major in college. I liked the conflict that Ava was dealing with in caring for the children while trying to balance her career aspirations. Nick had a good heart, but I hated a lot of his heavy handed actions in trying to "control" Ava and her independence. Unfortunately, the events at the end of the book were a bit hard to follow for me. I often got confused at what happened and everything felt rather rushed and abrupt.
I found this to be a fast read, and an engaging one. The story kept me intrigued and interested and the characters were well developed. I especially appreciated that this heroine had an actual link back to the old group of members of the No Brides Club! Having read half of this "Version 2.0 No Brides Club", I'm interested to see where it goes from here! -
No Time for Detours by Jean C. Gordon is ninth tale in No Brides Club series. Ava Lewis has moved to New York to begin law school at NYU in the fall and is the newest member of the No Brides Club. She is temping at Kiddie Korner at the Jansen Athletic Club where she meets twins, Mia and Lucas. When the woman who dropped them off fails to appear, Ava takes them to the alternate contact who is Nick Jansen. Nick is surprised to see the twins who live with their guardian and his former fiancé, Constance in Philadelphia. Constance recently married and is off to enjoy a month long honeymoon cruise leaving the twins in Nick’s care without bothering to ask his permission. Nick needs Ava to help watch the twins while he gets his work accomplished. A work agreement soon turns to something much more. I enjoyed reading the latest No brides Club novel. It was fun getting to know Ava, Nick and the precocious twins. Mia and Lucas are five going on fifteen. They are clever (especially Mia) and very rambunctious. Ava has ambitions and she does not want love to get in the way. She needs to discover that she can have love and accomplish her goals. This is a sweet, clean romance (which means kissing and nothing more). No Time for Detours can be read on its own if you have not read the other books in this series. I like that the previous members of the No brides Club are included. I appreciated the epilogue which nicely concluded this uplifting story. No Time for Detours is a heartwarming and humorous story.

I really enjoyed the story of Ava, Nick, and the antics of the 5 yr-old twins. Author Jean C Gordon did a great job vividly describing everything that I could imagine all of it. Ava joins the No Brides Club at the urging of her big sister Kate (from No Time for Apologies - Book 5) to give her both friends in NYC and help her to stay on track with her journey to get a law degree. I could relate to both Ava who was so eager to show her family and friends that she was an adult and could accomplish her dreams and to over-protective Nick. This was a great story.

This book felt "real" to me - not like a fairy tale romance, although it has the HEA ending. Nick is a bachelor working temporarily in NYC helping his uncle who is preparing to sell some of his business acquisitions. Ava is a law student working odd jobs to supplement her scholarship for other expenses. She takes a temporary assignment at a daycare center where she rides herd over 2 adorable twins. When the mother fails to show up at the end of the day, Ava locates the emergency contact information and makes the decision to take her young charges to their uncle in the same building. Unbeknownst to Nick, his ex-fiancee has left him temporary custody while she is on a one-month honeymo. Thus Ava and Nick meet.
This book is well-written, concise and the plot flows seamlessly. Both Ava and Nick have to make choices and compromises as they navigate the unknown waters as guardian and new friend to 2 rambunctious and overly bright twins. Each has a commitment to work and school, respectively, just like real people, who are juggling responsibilities and family. The author takes the time to build her characters, giving them enough background that the reader feels a strong connection with them. Complications arise that must be overcome, just like the "real world". My only complaint is that the twins were TOO well behaved! LOL.
An excellent read that leaves you with all the warm fuzzies that come come from a well executed romance with the Happily Ever After ending. -
I really enjoyed this book. It touches on so many of the tricky subjects that we encounter nowadays. What’s more important, family or career? Is there a way to balance them both and be happy? How do we handle other people’s expectations when they don’t align with our own? There’re also several others, but I’d be getting dangerously close to spoiler territory if I included them here. I love how strong and determined Ava is. She’s set herself a goal and she’s focused on achieving it. Nick is a total sweetheart. He’s seen what a purely “career” life looks like and that’s not what he wants anymore. Which is a good thing when the pair of precocious twin hellions land in his lap and he’s dealing with an, albeit temporary, instant family. I loved these two together. It’s a condensed timeline, but it still feels like a slow burn, a slow build to their love story. What I appreciate the most from this story is that both Ava and Nick are capable of apologizing for their mistakes and they can recognize they both played parts in making apologies necessary.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the publisher. -
No Time for Detours by Jean C. Gordon is one of most fun books I have read in a while! It has adorable twins, a busy businessman, a future lawyer and the unpredictable in one place.
Ava is doing temp jobs while getting ready for law school and takes a job in a day care where she meets five-year old twins, Mia and Lucas. After meeting their ‘uncle’ and leaving them with him hurries to a meeting of the No Brides Club. Nick has no idea that the twins were left in his care after their aunt went on her honeymoon. But not being one to be able to leave them, he took them home. Now what to do with them while he works (well tries to work)? And that is where the fun begins…Ava becomes involved with the little family without really realizing it and especially with ‘Uncle’ Nick. But she wants to keep her eyes on being a lawyer, not a family. What happens when the aunt comes back and wants the twins back? Will this be the end of Ava and Nick? What will the twins do, and will they be happy with their aunt? All these are answered that you won’t want to miss. -
I really enjoyed this story. The twins added so much to the story. Ava is trying to start a new career and doesn't have time for any romance. Nick doesn't have time either. He is trying to get his new business off the ground. But, when Ava walks into his office with the twins, he can't help but hope for something more. Ava just wants to concentrate on her career, but the twins throw a wrench into that. Can they find their footing together?

I liked this book and thought that it was a good addition to this series. Nick and Ava's story was fun and it had a lot of heart. This romance had a real genuineness to it, which I found made it easy to connect with. You will experience plenty of feels as this couples relationship evolves and they face some emotional landmines and drama along the way to a HEA. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Everything...………
Happens for a reason, isn’t that the saying? In this down to earth clean story, Ava n Nick start as employee employer, the move to friendship, the next step more than friends, then someone thinks their helping only to have the other persons life turned upside down. Choices, we all make them, school, loved ones, work, so many choices in our lives. I fell in love with Mia n Lucas, those 5 year old twins absolutely stole my heart! -
I enjoyed reading this, the twins are so smart and entertaining. Nick and Ava really just click and mesh almost seamlessly. Of course since she is a member of the "No Brides Club," she is just as determined as Nick to not be in a relationship, they have a little apprehension and a few issues to work through. I received a free copy without obligation and am voluntarily reviewing.

Ava is set to achieve her goal. She wants to graduate from law school and have a brilliant profesional life before setting to love and family. But when she meets Nick and the twins, Mia and Luca, she knows she is a goner. Can she have both, love and a carrier, or will she renounce to happiness? Sweet story

Excellent Book
This was such a sweet book! What a man! His ex-girlfriend sends her niece and nephew to him while she goes on her honeymoon without telling him. He has such a soft heart when he sees them. He also meets his neighbor who found the kids at his apartment building. You will fall in love with the twins. -
These stories are all part of a series that I have totally enjoyed. These women have all given up on love and want to only concentrate on their careers. But what happens when love shows up and they have to decide if its work the risk or should they pass it by. Grab your copies today and enjoy each one of these stories and see what these ladies will do. You will love the outcome of each story.

This book started off with an abrupt meeting between Ava and Nick and developed at a good, gradual pace. It is a very charming story, enhanced greatly with the addition of twins Mia and Lucas. I also enjoyed the strong emphasis on family.
I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. This is a great new “No Brides Club” tale - very enjoyable. -
I received an ARC of this book and I'm leaving my honest review
Here are the things made me want to read this story:
- the cover
- is brides series
- has kids in it
3.5 stars
I like the story. I loved every scene with the kids. I got so frustrated with Nick and Ava because they communicate with each other on how they felt for most of the book. -
Ninth book in the series about a group of friends who decide to put their careers first. Since most of the original six are now married new characters are introduced. This is a fun happy book that of course includes some drama and emotional angst on the road to the HEA
-
Life and Love
This was the first book in this series but want be my last. I found the characters warm and friendly and you wanted to read more about them. As they battle detours in everyday life like jobs, kids and child care and find there happy ever after . -
Loved reading this book

NO TIME FOR DETOURS is a clean romance about a 23 year old preschool teacher who moves to NYC to attend law school. She is taking temporary jobs as a day care worker where she cares for the twins. When their mother abandons them, she takes them to their Uncle Nick.
Nick is an accountant of sorts and is not the twins real uncle. He's rather overwhelmed by two five-year-olds with above average intelligence. Desperate for help, he hires Ava to watch the twins so he can do his job.
There's no sex, no swearing, no sexual tension (he spends more time admiring his own body than hers), but there is drinking. The kisses are low-key. There is nothing Christian about this at all. I enjoyed the tour of their area of NYC and "Seeing" Ground Zero through their eyes.
I never saw the black moment coming.
A sweet romance that should appeal to anybody.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
