Three nice stories about magnificent Mabel.

    Rabbit Riot

It's not fair. Mabel really, really wants a pet. A girl at school has lots of pets including chickens, dogs, cats and hamsters, and Mabel doesn't even have one. To make things worse, Mabel's older sister Meg gets a rabbit for her birthday.

Totally unfair! Everyone knows that Mabel likes pets more than anyone. When the new rabbit is left alone for a while, Mabel decides she knows what's best for him, resulting in an afternoon of imagination and near disaster!

    The Burglar Tooth Fairy

Children in Mabel's class are losing their teeth and are excited about the Tooth Fairy coming to visit. Mabel can't understand why someone coming into their room at night to steal a tooth is a good idea, let alone be happy about. The unthinkable happens - Mabel's front tooth is suddenly wiggly. How will she make sure it stays in? Soft food, spit glue, tape?

The thought of money left by the Tooth Fairy is tempting, but no. A Burglar Tooth Fairy in her room is unthinkable. Mabel's sister Meg comes to her rescue.

    The Pixie Play Date

Mabel would love to play under a sprinkler. Their paddling pool isn't fun anymore, but a sprinkler would be perfect. But Mum and Dad tell her their garden is too small. They don't want to sprinkle the neighbours. Mabel knows someone at school with a big garden, and a sprinkler. She puts her plan to play in a sprinkler to work.

This plan requires patience, time and self control, but she's sure it will work...

Mabel is imaginative, funny and authentic in these three short stories. Themes of siblings, play dates, animals and life being 'so unfair!' are all completely relatable to junior readers.

This book didn’t live up to my high expectations based on the positive reviews. Although it was somewhat entertaining, I prefer the protagonist in books I read to provide a good example of how to be a friend. Mable is dishonest and doesn’t own up to or apologise for her mistakes. This being left unresolved, I’d rather choose a more positive character model for my child. Although we had a good conversation about Mabel’s behaviour.
