Can sweet and spicy make for a delicious pairing?

When barbecue food truck owner Holt Collins caters a wedding at the romantic wedding venue Falling Blossoms, he meets a woman who throws him for a loop. She may be gorgeous, but they clash immediately. He did however love the venue and makes an appointment to show it to his fiancée, only to receive a break-up text.

Devastated, Holt spends a few days trying to figure out what went wrong and what to do next. He decides to grab a bite at a local cafe, unaware that it is owned by Kayla Burton. After telling Kayla he’s no longer engaged, he later finds her kitchen in crisis and Kayla desperate for help, but unwilling to ask. He steps in and saves the day, but she hates giving up control of her kitchen, much less her heart. She’s attracted, but he’s just been jilted. Is this a rebound fling or fate working its magic?

Can a cupcake café owner find true love with Mr. Hot Holt Barbecue?

    Interesting story

Interesting premise, interesting characters, lovely community, but I struggled with the writing. Just didn't grab me and I didn't believe it.

I AM LATE WITH THIS REVIEW, BUT I ENJOYED THIS STORY AROUND FOOD. ONE PERSON OWNS A FOOD TRUCK ANOTHER A BAKERY. BOTH ARE WORKING AT THEIR SAID BUSINESSES AND HAD MEET THE PREVIOUS YEAR. HOLT IS BACK IN THE TEXAS TOWN FOR A WEDDING AND HE WAS ATTRACTED TO KAYLA THE LAST TIME BUT SHE WAS WITH SOMEONE. WHEN HE FINDS OUT THAT SHE IS SINGLE THAT IS WHEN THE STORY BEGINS TO TAKE OFF AND THE BANTER BETWEEN THE TWO CHARACTERS INCREASES.
SOME PARTS OF THIS LOVE STORY ARE LIKE OTHER BOOKS BUT THE AUTHOR DOES MIX IT UP AND WITH THE FOOD PART IT DOES ADD TO THE MIX. OVERALL A GOOD STORY. I GAVE THIS BOOK THREE STARS FOLLOW US AT

Way too G rated and simple for my tastes. The writing is stilted and lacks true character development. Kayla, the h, was boring and too doubtful. Just plain, no, for me.

A quick read about two people recovering from previous break-ups, “Cooking up Trouble”, by Lenora Worth (Tule Publishing), revolves around food, a romantic couple in the food industry, friends and family in a small-town in Texas.
The Texan hero, a hunk with the appropriate drawl, isn’t, however, the over-the-top alpha one would expect, in fact he’s a softy with the heroine and really a kind person and that was nice to read.
Both Holt and Kayla love food, enjoy spending time with each other and cooking together and much of the story revolves around these aspects. There’s also a wedding preparation taking up much of the characters’ time. With all this, I reckon I missed the chemistry between our romantic couple (ah, there are some violations of sanitary rules with all that kissing and baking).
I liked the leads’ honesty with each other. Holt’s transition from the recent break-up was too quick and their attraction in the beginning lacked substance. Kayla’s pain was more convincing and her fears seemed genuine.
I found the story enjoyable yet average, with some clichés and stereotypes (the hunks, the drawl, the happy couples), which aren’t a bad thing and we usually expect them in this genre; but since both Holt and Kayla are quite balanced people after all, the conflict and tension turns out to be exterior to them, for example Holt’s annoying ex ridiculous appearances and insistence.
And then we have a male character who often speaks in rhymes, and wording like this:
“Kaila was light and wind. Air and water. And full of fire.” (quote from ARC)

Although this book is part of a series, you can totally read it was a stand alone like i did.

Kayla looks after the local restaurant in Blossom Falls and Holt is best friends with one of her two friends fiancee. Having met once before where they traded barbs with each other, however Holt has returned a few weeks from Drake and Sarina's wedding only to find that he has been dumped by his fiancee via text and it is Kayla that. Kayla is the one who finds out first and is there when he needs her.

The romance is fairly sweet and only has light kissing, whoever the feelings run deep even though they both have to get over hurts by their exe's and it is Kayla's path that holds them back the most.

There are good supportive friends and family and Kayla and Holt are embraced by all and helped along when they have doubts, especially Kayla as she is the one holding her relationship back with Holt and her own self doubts from being in a bad relationship with another chef.

This book is a lovely read and was really good on a blustery autumn/fall day.

It was very much a g-rated story. But others have addressed this fact. Overlooking the lack of passion, I just found myself being interested by every other character but the heroine. I get that she was jilted and betrayed by someone in the food industry in the past but I found her so boring. I liked her sister and found myself wondering more about the support characters than the main couple. The food truck staff and the extended family were more interesting. To end on a positive, I think the author did a great job on a couple of exes resolving their relationship in a healthy way with the hero gently but firmly rejecting the re-entrance of his girlfriend. He was firm but didn’t take it into mean-spirited dialogue. It was healthy but I can’t say it was believable. Quick, easy read but 😑

    Beautiful Story

I love small town romances. Kayla owns a successful cafe in her hometown. She loves cooking and seeing people enjoying her food. When Holt's fiancee dumps him, he shares his hurt with Kayla, only to discover that he's not really that hurt. He came to town with plans of expanding his food truck business there, but he finds more than one reason to stay there. Beautiful story of friendships, family, and love. I loved it.

    Quick, clean romance

This story is a quick, clean romance about a successful woman who has a very low self esteem when it comes to men. She was burned once but she hasn't dated since. When a wonderful man comes into her life she pushed him away at every turn. Very frustrating and got annoyed with her for it. Ok read.

  • Jane Drager

Another good story from Ms. Worth and well worth adding to your reading list. Easy read with happily ever after ending. Strong characters. No sex or foul language. Some editing problems with missed or misspelled words but still enjoyable.

  • TeenaMarie

    I really liked it!!

  • Joyce

    Fun and enjoyable read!

  • Paige Norman

I just couldn't get into this one. They don't like each other, she's not even very nice and I just didn't have time to see if / how their relationship worked.

  • Karla Rose

    Love, food, and fun

This sweet story combined two of my favourite things food and a sweet romance set in a tight knit community, such a nice, relaxing read.

  • Angel Graham

There was no chemistry, no spark between the MC's. I was more invested in Kayla's sister Jenna, and her relationships.

  • Suzanne

Ok book. Just didn’t sound like Texas with the sweaters and fire in the summer and Labor Day. Book was clean but just wasn’t for me.

COOKING UP TROUBLE is the second story in the Brides of Blossom, Texas series. This time around we’re meeting Kayla and Holt, two business people who are tossed together (in a way) as they both are catering Sarina’s wedding (from CLOSING THE DEAL) and they didn’t exactly start off with good relations, at all.

Sparks fly between Holt and Kayla, each has a troubled past, both have been hurt badly, and they are trying to heal, to let the past go while fighting the attraction that is obvious between them. There are issues, trust to be gained, the past to be put firmly in its place, and healing to be done before this couple can find a happy future together. I liked both Holt and Kayla. There is no bad guy here, no major blowup to spoil their relationship, only two people who are at different places in recovering from being hurt before. Their story is of rebuilding trust and letting yourself love again – even if it seems too soon to Kayla for a time.

Food – there is so much food talk in COOKING UP TROUBLE and I loved it. (grin) This story is believable, even relatable as life happens then we move on sometimes to an even better future. I had fun with this small-town romance and would not hesitate to recommend it to any reader who loves good friends, likable secondary characters, and a couple who belong together – once they figure that out.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Follows are my own opinions. I have read and enjoyed several books by Lenora. This book is the second book in the series and I previously read the first book too. We return to Blossom, Texas and the 3 friends. This book is Kayla’s story. Kayla runs the Falling Waters Cafe. In the first book she meets her friend Sarina’s fiancé Drake’s friend Holt. Holt also makes his living cooking Barbecue meats and sides and owns a few food trucks. Kayla previously felt threatened by Holt and his food. She wasn’t too fond of him. Holt was engaged and had come to Blossom to look at the facilities for hosting his wedding. In this book we learned that Holt was dumped by his fiancé in a text message.

Holt is supposed to help cater Sarina’s wedding and be a groomsman for Drake. Kayla is also helping to cater the wedding and is a bridesmaid. They are determined to get along and not ruin the wedding.
Kayla and Holt start spending time together while he is in town and planning their parts in the wedding. They realize they have strong feelings for each other. Since Holt so recently broke up with his fiancé, Kayla is afraid he’s on the rebound and afraid she’ll get her heart broken again. Not too long ago she was in a relationship and the guy, her cooking mentor, insulted her and dumped her, then got back with his ex wife.

As time passes, they both decide to take the chance. There is some suspense and angst but in all it is an HEA. I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read the final book in the series.

Can a cupcake queen and a Texas bbq food truck master find a common ground?

Well, if you are a Lenora Worth fan, you know the answer to this already. They will find a common ground.

Holt Collins owns several successful BBQ trucks in San Antonio and has come to Blossom to look at Falling Blossoms as a possible wedding venue for him and his fiancé. His fiancé never shows and actually breaks up with him by text. He is devastated but he has promised to be best man to a long time friend so he stays around Blossom. He is also looking for another spot more permanent to locate another BBQ truck as well.

Kayla Burton has taken over the family business. She has not only taken it over but completely turned it around. Plus she makes the best cakes for miles around. When she meets Holt there is an instant attraction but she refuses to let herself act on them. She doesn’t want to be the rebound girlfriend. But sometimes things happen for the right reasons and both Holt and Kayla

My only compliant about this book is that the special Man Muffins recipe that Kayla creates for Holt is not including in the book. I really do want this recipe.

I did receive a copy of this book in advance from the publisher in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

Kayla and Holt are 2 peas in a pod. They just don't know it yet. Both are passionate about their work and the people they love. Kayla's hackles rise whenever he's around but he wins her over with his quiet charm and his gentlemanly cowboy ways. Giving Holt a chance with her heart is the last thing she wants to do because she doesn't want to be his rebound. But Holt is going to do his best to convince her that she is exactly who he needed in his life all along and he's ready to do whatever he needs to do to make that he is the one she ends up with. It is such a sweet and romantic tale with a lot of procrastination, soul searching and quite a few giggles in the mix.
