“Let me,” he says, voice low, his hand running up my thigh.
“You hate me,” I whisper, knees trembling.
He smiles against my throat. “I don’t need to love you for this, Riley. Let me.”

Love and hate are merely two sides of the same coin. And I hate Riley Larson.
She's responsible for my little brother's death. She played us both, all those years ago. And she drove him to the edge.
I've spent all this time avoiding her, loathing her, wishing to get her back for what she did.

And now, she's back in my city.
And finally, I can get vengeance for my brother.

She did always like to be scared.

No cliffhanger, can be read as a stand-alone. Dark romance, only suitable for those 18+.

I have read like 50 pages or so and then from a review I read, I learnt that there is going to be an MFM scene and I lost my enthusiasm to continue the book. A man who shares his woman is no man for me; I cannot see him as my hero in a romance novel.

Okayyyy so basically this was good for a quick and short read. I liked it initially, but then it just got so repetitive like babes YOU FALL FOR THE SAME SHIT AGAIN AND AGAIN

It was way too dramatic. Idk how I survived but i didn’t hate it at the same time? Okay, maybe I did hate it…

But the smut was good. It was slightly deranged but it was good 🤷🏻‍♀️

There were so many points where I was like girl 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐔𝐏 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐖 𝐀 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐉𝐄𝐄𝐙

So much stupid shit could’ve been avoided if she acted like a sane person. Don’t get me started on the flashbacks. Someone give me a paracetamol 💆🏻‍♀️

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘
There was not one point I thought okay he’s actually a semi decent guy yk?

I completely get that it’s a bully romance but then there has to be 𝙎𝙊𝙈𝙀 𝙆𝙄𝙉𝘿 𝙊𝙁 𝙍𝙊𝙈𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀 𝙍𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏?!
And then he had the audacity to not even grovel??! SHE DID NOT MAKE HIM GROVEL! What kind of-

𝐈𝐟 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞, 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞.

I hated him and I hated her so… 𝙏𝙒𝙊 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍𝙎.

  • Jeeves Reads Romance

Well that was quite possibly the darkest and dirtiest book I’ve ever read. I know this is billed as a dark romance, but there’s dark and then there’s DARK. The writing itself is actually great, so it jumped from one to five stars repeatedly throughout the story for me, but ultimately it was just not what I was hoping for. For one thing, there’s no actual “romance.” This is a guy, Caden, who fell in love with his brother’s girlfriend and can’t seem to stay away from her even though he now hates and blames her for his brother’s death. Neither Riley nor Caden are anything resembling an angel (and if you throw in Benji, because yes, this is actually a MFM story), neither one has much lightness to them. Caden is set on hurting Riley the way that she’s hurt him, but he doesn’t have the full story. The reader knows there’s more to what happened, but Caden doesn’t so some of his actions are super dark. It’s suspenseful, dirty and keeps you on the edge of your seat... but I also found parts of the story straight up disgusting.

I won’t spoil anything about the actual mystery here, but when reading a dark romance, I really don’t want my “heroine” to be someone who has previously been sexually assaulted, and that’s the case here. Caden’s actions are dark and despicable, but when you factor in that Riley is actually a victim... it made things a little nauseating. I also would’ve loved a heads-up that a second guy plays a major role in the story, because that’s not my genre. I wouldn’t say that it’s straight up MFM, but let’s just say that this story doesn’t end with a man and a woman driving off into the sunset together. The story is MUCH more about the revenge and suspenseful aspects (with some sex thrown in), and there is no hate-to-love wooing action going on. It’s all dark, it’s all a bit depraved. Things do not get lighter as the story goes on. If that’s what you’re looking for, this is actually really well written. I’d be interested in seeing what else the author writes, because while this crossed too many lines for me to like it, I can still appreciate the quality in the writing.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I hated this, the story is told in annoying flashbacks that are constant and don't stop until the very end of the book. It's fucking irrating because it takes you out of the story. The book didn't have much character development and I felt disconnected from the MCs because of it. This is suppose to be a love story, what love? That's a joke.
    Below will have SPOILERS.

There is only 1 sex scene in this book (80%) and it's a MFM scene.
The hero fucks her in the ass and his bestfriend has her front hole, how romantic. The scene is not hot, its gross. The book finishes with her saying they might continue having 3somes with other men, lovely.

The book is extremely repetitive and nothing happens at all until we find out who the guy in the sex tape is at 85% into the book. The ENTIRE book is her saying "he hates me" and him saying, I hate her...thats it, now you dont have to suffer through this.

the h is a TSTL doormat who's beautiful with no boobs or butt. She allows strange men to finger her in a nightclub, the H - the rich manwhore - gets turned on by seeing her getting fingered and starts sucking on another girls nipples.

The entire book is the H reacting sexually to other women. He's sexing, getting aroused, etc. Thus for our safty gang readers, this book is not for you. He messes around with other women and its kinda detailed.

I was hoping to read an emotional love story with some angst, this book just ended up being garbage.

There is no love in this book. If a man truly loves a woman, he wouldn't share her with another. There are parts where he's feeling possessive and jealous that felt fucking fake to me. Oh please, you're getting horny watching the h getting fingered on the dance floor by a stranger, you allow your bestfriend to feel her up and fuck her but she's "mine." *eye roll*

    - at the end, I also felt like the H would end up cheating on the h because of his history. He didnt believe in monogamy.

If a female has only male friends=red flag. I’m so over authors creating female characters who have every Tom,Dick and Harry ‘falling for them’ when said female characters are shitty. I’m sick of shit for brains male characters. He seems so juvenile. It’s so dramatic. There’s no real feelings so the notion that the author is trying to push the idea of ‘betrayal’ and angst falls flat. This is soooo long winded with no substance. Why did they feel like they ‘connected?’ What entwines them? Literally nothing. Oh and morals? What are thooooooose?!! The plot line though not the nicest or original had potential, but no substance hence shitty. DNF

    Had to read it!

I am a huge fan of K.V. Rose's Unsainted series, so I had to read this! I am also a huge fan of dark romance and RH, so since I heard this has MFM, well more reasons.

The story drew me in and I wanted to understand the characters motivations. I am not sure what actually happened to Rolland. Did I skip something somehow? I even went back and re-read the last 10% but can't figure it out. So, I guess the story continues in the next book?

I am really excited for the next book in this series, and am looking forward to continuing the Unsainted series even more. I love this author. I hope she continues writing for a very long time.

    anybody else get total
Corrupt vibes? there were way too many similarities between the books to not question it.
i actually liked the book a lot in the beginning and was intrigued, but slowly liked it less and less the more i read it. it was the same thing over and over again throughout the book.
caden blamed riley for her brother's death. he claims its her fault that he killed himself because she cheated according to a video. first of all, she was drugged and sexually assaulted in that video. and second of all, when she did get together with someone else, they were broken up, and the someone else she got with... was caden! he blamed her for "cheating" but she was doing it with him! yes, getting with your ex's brother is messed up, but he got together with his brother's ex a week after they broke up and that is SO much worse. so he blamed her for something he was just as, if not more, guilty for. but the whole book he goes back and forth with planning revenge on her and wanting to be with her and getting jealous when she was with other men. he could not make up his mind. and the whole time he was being awful to riley (which she also could have easily made him stop by finally telling the truth about what happened), all she could think about how bad she wanted to be with and fuck him. they drove me insane with their back and forth and miscommunication, and i didn’t feel any actual chemistry.

Caden blames Riley for his brother's death. Caden's dad has leverage on Riley, which he uses to keep her quiet about what really happened. Caden and his friend Benji want to get revenge. Their reasons for wanting revenge are dumb. They act like she was actively involved in Jack's death when in reality she was loosely involved.

Riley let Caden treat her like shit, so his dad wouldn't expose the info he had. The dad was creepy. Based on how she acted, I figured he had something good on her, but I was really let down in the end. Things I assumed happened to her just a few chapters in was all that happened to her. Riley made her life miserable to keep a secret that was only partially a secret to begin with. There was a twist at the end, but I was so disappointed in other events that I didn't care.

It's hard to buy into the romance. The intense connection between Caden and Riley doesn't make sense. They barely spent time together before Jack died. The romance is between Caden and Riley, but the sex is MFM. I don't feel like it worked out. What was Benji's interest in Riley? Caden is a possessive asshole. It's damn hard to believe he'd let another man touch his woman.

Caden and I…we were made to burn together.

KV wrote this. Is it any wonder I liked it?
Just like other books by K(which I always highly recommend btw), this one is also fucked up, twisted and toxic.
I absolutely loved Riley. She was badass in her own way and was unapologetic for the darkness inside of her. She owned each fucked up part of her and that's everything!.

On the other hand, I didn't like Caden. Thus the 3.5 rating. He was.....idk, an idiot? I really don't know how to explain it better. I can understand that it was easy, almost too easy for him to put the blame of his brother, Jack's death on Riley. But his reaction to the whole video drama and other things....well, that just seemed immature and surface level. Easy for me to say that he should have dug deeper into the matter......but yeah...he should've dug deeper into the matter.

I feel like my grasp on everything right now is falling apart. It isn’t healthy, but neither is how I feel about Riley Larson.

Benji, however, stole the show for me. Goddamnit, why are guys like this not real?! He was devil personified. He was hot, perceptive, lived in the shadows and had a big conscience. And he had that look in his eyes which says "I have the ability to torture you your whole life if you mess with me" 🔥🔪
This book's story was a bit all over the place but I still cannot wait to read the next book cuz.....Benji🖤

  • Mojo_Mama

3.5 stars...takes place over the space of a week. A bit bully, a bit more just rough sex in a threesome with the H’s BBF...you know the H of the next book. (*eye-roll*). I don’t care about angsty shit. I. LOVE. IT. I’m just not a fan of MFM if one of the M’s is gonna be the H in another book. It squicks me. Sorry, #HardLimit

ESPECIALLY, if I have to hear about it ad nauseam in his book :/

This felt like a fast read. It’s good, not as good as Ecstasy by same author. Check that one out for sure.

On to his next book. Fingers crossed it’s skimmed over.

    Solid 4 stars.

I liked it and it was addictive. I didn’t love it as much as Ecstasy but still couldn’t put it down for long. Caden was a good tormented character but I liked Alex in Ecstasy more. Alex was crazier but also more likeable and really really “bad” in all the best ways. Some people also seem to love Benji, with all his dark ways, but I found him a bit one dimensional and radioopaque - probably cause we didn’t get his POV in this one. Eli in Ecstasy was much darker and much more appealing.

So…there were flaws in the story. For example - the whole premise of blackmail by Rolland. How in the world did she allow him to use that to blackmail her? Why didn’t R give into his desires after having her at his beck and call for multiple years. He didn’t care about her relationship when he first hurt her but somehow, her having a boyfriend held him off afterwards? Why couldn’t Caden and Benji figure out who sent the videos either time, thinking it was Riley the whole time? I mean - if Benji was such a genius stalker, it should have been a piece of cake. Also, their revenge plans sucked - they never seemed to make sense and really, there was at least one scene where I think she actually benefited from it. Their plans felt amateur and directionless. What were they going to do with their video anyway?

But…even recognizing all of the problems with the story - I found I just didn’t care. I wanted to know what happened. There were similarities with Ecstasy with same pet names, and wrestling and two on one action but different enough that I didn’t feel like it was a repeat. Ecstasy came after this one and I could feel KV’s evolution as a writer. It’s better in that one - tighter story- wilder ride - more appealing characters.

Being Canadian, I also have to mention that I love that it was set in Toronto. That was very cool, given I’ve been there numerous times and know the setting.

I’d recommend this one but not as interested in book 2 about Benji. More because he just doesn’t interest me. But I do plan on reading more by KV in the future. I really enjoy my time in her stories.

    3.5 Vengeful Stars

As a contender for my DE group's BOTM, I knew from the blurb I had to read this one. The author is new to me (and I believe a new dark author altogether), but she managed to tell a story that was equal parts heartbreaking and delicious. There were a few issues (I will get into later), but altogether it was a book that kept my attention and kept me up way past bedtime.

"She’s always been wild. It’s what I loved about her."

Told in dual POV, the first installment of the Vengeful series is both a second chance romance and enemies to lovers story as well as a tale of revenge and secrets that hold enough weight to change everything. It does end with a HFN ending with no cliffy, but I am positive the overall story will continue from Benji's POV in book 2. Its considered "dark", but I would put it on the lighter side of the genre. It does contain some triggers including suicide, forced sexual situations (past), emotional abuse, fear erotica, threesomes, etc.

"I’m going to make Riley Larson suffer for everything she ever did to my brother. To me. My family. And I don’t give a damn if I’ve got to shatter more glass to do it. She’s going to get what she deserves."

Caden hasn't seen Riley in three years, not since her actions resulted in his younger brother's suicide. She played them both, and he couldn't resist. Its her fault and he intends to make her pay. He will get his revenge......no matter if he still wants her after all this time.

"This is her fault. My brother is dead because of her. But it’s my fault, too. Because I couldn’t resist her. I can’t now, and I couldn’t then, either."

Riley has made some mistakes in her past. She loved Jack and mourned his death. No one knows what really happened and how even three years later, she is simply a puppet on strings controlled by someone who holds all the power. She can't tell Caden, it will only break him further. But when he begins to play games she knows are dangerous for her, she can't help but play along.....she has always had a magnetic pull to that man.

“Quiet, baby girl.” I drag my hand over her mouth and down her throat. “There are worse monsters than me in this forest.”

With the help of his best friend Benji, he makes his plans to make her pay.....only they realize that the truth behind that painful night 3 years ago is far more valuable. Will they be able to get Riley to give them secrets shes been holding onto? Can Caden handle the truth even if it means hes spent all this time hating the wrong person?

They have always been drawn together, pulled by an invisible force.....can they overcome everything and live HEA?

"Riley and her stupid fking games. They were always the most dangerous kind."

    What I didn't like:
There were a few editing errors BUT not nearly as many as I would have expected from a newer author. Instead, my problem was with the way she formed her dialogue. The use of "and" way too many times in one sentence, or used over and over again (back to back) in one paragraph. There were minor issues that made reading certain parts hard.
But probably my biggest problem overall was both the ending (it didn't feel wrapped up) and some of the events being a little improbable and far fetched. I won't go into detail to not spoil it, but the "blackmail" truly didn't make a ton of sense from the heroine's POV.

"I swear to God I’m going to give her a weight of suffering so immense she’ll be begging for an early death."

Overall, I did enjoy the story. Its not oversexed, making those we did get in the plot feel more important to the story.......not to mention give it a more authentic feel considering how the antihero felt about the heroine. Its was paced well, giving us just enough of their past to make sense of the present. And the twist? It was something that I kinda assumed (in part) but still gave me the "shock" it intended.

If you are on the fence about this, take a shot on it. Its worth the download!

"It might send me straight to hell. But I don’t care. Caden and I…we were made to burn together."

  • Deb

The author clearly protrayed the hateful nature of some of the characters in this book. The anger, hate and jealousy jumped off the pages as each scene was read. The mystery surrounding the events that led to their strained interactions is revealed slowly over most of the book. The author kept the suspense going while creating a longing for them to be free of the evil in their lives and possibly for them to be together but only if they can let go of the past. Great storytelling

    Whattttt

On this green earth did I just read? Holy twists and turns, Batman!
The backstory behind Caden and Riley, the addition of Benji, her background with the family.
So many bumps on their rollercoaster ride, and I am here for it!
I cannot wait to read Benji’s story.
This is a new author for me, but I think she’ll be a favorite in no time at all!

I liked the premise of this story but struggled with parts of the motivations. I was lost at the characters and the back and forth but was intrigued enough to want to figure out what was happenings he blackmail seemed a bit extreme and easily explained so I'm lost as to why it had the power that it did.

    Let me (Vengeful #1) 4✨

Caden hates Riley because of what she did to his brother and can’t wait to get revenge on her.
Riley has secrets that run deep into her core but can she stay the villain in Caden’s story to save him from the truth?

This was was such an intriguing read i loved everything about Riley and her selfness and her sacrifice. everything she was going through and her pain was so well portrayed but also was her courage.
Caden is an asshole but you can’t help but love him and feel for him for all his pain and his confusion with Riley and the love and the hate he has for her.
Benji was my favorite thing about this book and i can’t wait to get into his book because i think he’s my new favorite book boyfriend.

This books was not as dark as i expected it was actually pretty damn good there’s is a MFM scene if that’s what dark is for you so be warned i personally loved it and loved their dynamic.

The ending was a little cliffy since we don’t really get to know much about what happened to the villain of the story and he doesn’t at all get what’s coming to him but we get to know more about it in the second book. Overall loved it.

The problem I had with this book was not the sexual acts... Okay, I lied. At some point, it did disturb me a bit. My reading experience in dark romance genre is still diminutive, but I try to keep a broad understanding and minimize my judgment. Otherwise, I won't be able to widen my bookish world and my enjoyment in reading.

Anyway, as I have mentioned, the main problem(s) I had with this book were Caden and Riley. I didn't understand Caden's hatred towards Riley. I mean, sure, everyone initially thought that Jack committed suicide due to heartbreak, and that this became the root of Caden's predicament. Suicide is a difficult tragedy to deal with, I totally understand that. But my point was, Riley didn't murder Jack. At first, I actually thought she did, which might be the reason why Caden hated her so much. But, she was innocent, and Caden knew that. He constantly witnessed how his brother treated her poorly over the course of the couple's relationship. How he himself had wanted her to stand up or leave Jack because of that reason.

    "She played us both".
Oh please! She had a crush on Caden, sure, but Riley didn't even make a move on him when she was still dating Jack, or even after they broke up(unless, ofc, I missed reading that part). Caden, however, seduced her and didn't even hesitate to jump aboard when the two had broken up. So why punish the girl to that extent, I couldn't make sense of it.

Riley, on the other hand, thought she's 'protecting' Caden from his father by allowing harrassment, emotional, and sexual abuse run her life. Really? What's that made you? *sigh* Even before Jack's death, she didn't even have a single pivotal interaction with the guy that could convince me her relationship with him in the past was deep enough to make that 'sacrifice' for him.

    Ugh, this was exhausting.

Honestly, I was kind of liking the first several chapters of the book, because the plot was really interesting. The writing was also good, I liked it. But, overtime, it became apparent to me that the crux of the matter, which was the hatred, was based on the two main characters' groundless accusations, unspoken feelings, and unnecessary cover ups. Nothing more.

    Okay, that's that.

I just cannot express how much love I have for KV and her books.. each one just comes alive and takes you on a journey you didn't even realise you needed to go on

This books is full of secrets so I spent 50% of this books figuring out what was going on, because true to KV style she likes to keep us in the dark (see what I did there 🤣)

Then I spent the next 30% going 'okay yeah I know what's going on, I know what's going to happen, I'll bet my life on my theory..'

Then I spent the last 20% going 'thank god I didn't bet my life because I was so far off the mark I don't even know where the mark is anymore and what just happened?!'

As usual all I'm going to say is "Get on the KV Train ASAP you will not be disappointed!"

  • Lorrie

Interesting and extremely addictive; however, I'm having trouble connecting with Riley. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality and I don't understand why she kept the secret. It just doesn't make sense to me. Can't say I care for Caden or Benii either, yet here I am, eager to read book 2. Go figure.

I forgot how much I love revenge romance. So much angst. So much emotion. Blurred lines, crossed boundaries, & the hate sex??? Now throw in the fact that KV is writing it & I’m officially in heaven.

Three years ago Riley Larson & the Virani’s became more entangled than they could have ever imagined but after Jack, Riley’s ex-boyfriend & Caden’s little brother, commits suicide, Riley runs far away from Toronto & the men that took over her life.
    Except for one.
When she returns to the Virani mansion after all this time, Caden’s determined to make her pay for what she did to his brother. To him.
    Does she deserve it?
They say love & hate are just two sides of the same coin but who knows where it’s going to land.

K just has that magic touch when it comes to fleshing out her heroines. She’s got that knack for making these raw, real, tough ass women. They’re emotional & different & imperfect without giving a single fuck. I truly loved Riley & honestly my heart was breaking for her. She was living the nightmare that so many girls, women, boys, and men live with. Being sexually assaulted at a young age. Being taken advantage of because they don’t have the resources or the confidence or the knowledge to speak, to even recognize that they DIDN’T DESERVE IT. To see her character transformation was awesome. & Caden was so damaged & punishing himself for something he had no control over, which forced him to put the blame on someone else. You know what they say, hurt people hurt people & K just always puts those motherfuckers together & WE’RE left in the middle of all the broken pieces & chaos.
    We love it, though.
I could have read another 100+ pages of this story. I immediately downloaded book 2 after finishing because I was not done with Riley, Caden, or Benji. If you haven’t read this crazy shit yet, I highly suggest you do.

  • Valentina

Interesting story, lots of sexual tension with the promise of being dark but never truly being meted out by the hero, always too remorseful to follow through. In some ways the book, at least the underlying problem the heroine was punishing herself for was unnecessarily drawn out, unrealistic and in the end, childish, silly reasoning. As a matter of fact, the hero was portrayed younger than his true years. The character’s development lacked age and experience maturity for the lifestyle he maintained, attitudes and activities of a person who owns, for example, a large business as the author described them.

The author did a great job of rendering the tension between the characters but left the actual sexual relations too late in the book, like not until 80%, and described nothing about the heroine’s former sexual encounters as if to leave her coming across as virginal though she’s described as liking darkness, and we know she has been with at least two men.

Overall good storyline but slow to deliver, lost opportunities on sexual encounters that would have strengthened the relationship between the main characters or which could have been used to forge a power exchange. I saw the hero as frustrated and guilt-ridden rather than a strong, vengeful alpha. Benji was depicted as more intriguing and dark than Caden, the hero of the tale. I wouldn’t characterize this story as overly dark. Some situations with the father, sure; some intimidation by the hero but really nothing characteristic of a dark tale. It was barely vengeful.

Finally, a peeve of mine: It’s highly unlikely a man of Caden’s resources / wealth, circumstance drives an Infinity. That was just jarringly odd.

    2 Stars! ★★
I really wanted to love it but it took way to long to get to any answers. I think the mention of a “video” that caused the downfall of Riley, Jack and Caden was told too quickly in the story and nothing really moved beyond it.

Lots of “talking” about the video Jack received that caused him to kill himself. Lots. Repeatedly.

“I met Jack, and I fell for him, and when his control felt like love, I stayed.
I never realized his father was the exact same way. Just more vile. Never realized it until it was too fucking late”

This was just too much. I don’t understand what hold Jack’s father could have with this video in the future, after it’s been released already. I got up to 50% before stopping. I lost my investment in Riley and her romance with Caden.
