Silver Diamond, Volume 4: Granting Purpose Reviews
-
Our main characters transit to the other world, the wasteland that seems to lack a name as well as any resources to sustain life. Its an unkind world, not just the environment (the desertification I think is recent, due to the evil prince) but culturally. Life is cheap and extra children are abused or thrown away to die, as was hinted already.
Rakan continues to be a very kind person, but now begins to display some leadership as well. I guess he needs a new hobby now that there's nothing to stress-cook to feed others.
Musical pairing:
Kimura Takuya, Love Lives. -
JUST READ THE FIRST FOUR VOLUMES AND IT HAD BEEN SHOCKINGLY HEARTFELT AND RIVETING. I AM SO INVESTED IN THE STORY AND THE LEAD CHARACTER AND THE BUDDING BOY-LOVE STORY!! I haven't felt this utterly giddy about a manga fantasy adventure since Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden months ago. I will finish the entire series before the year ends and then come up with an official review soon enough!! ABSOLUTELY ENTHRALLING!

Mmmm a ver...

man that scene where the flowers all bloomed in the valley was so sick. i love you rakan
-
that's too deep for a comic 😭 the abandoned children you deserved better!
-
and in this volume rakan battles the philosophical evil known as nihilism! WILL HE SUCCEED???
(that's legit what's happening with slightly less punctuation and academic terminology xD)
at the end of this volume sugiura makes apologies for the dudefest this manga is going to turn into (24 guys! and a lizard)
i...foresee a lot of future headcanons revolving around characters who are clearly women crossdressing for reasons
it's going to be a regular monstrous regiment up in here

A little slower than the previous books. Still, the character interactions remain charming, even though there is not nearly enough of the talking snake. (I do love Narushige and Tohji's reactions to Rakan's reactions.) Also, I was amused to see the author apologizing in her note about the cast consisting of 24 men and one reptile.

Silver Diamond vol. 4: Granting Purpose is rather short and too much of it is taken up by repetitive conversations, but some important things happen, Chigusa still entertains, the ayame prince gets more (twisted) characterization, and Rakan continues to conquer the people around him with sympathy, hugs, and vegetation. *g*

this would be great as anime if there isnt one yet~ i can just see it so clearly in my head
