    Colette is a young, pregnant widow living in New Jersey. The day she finds out about her beloved husbands' death was also the day she realized she was with child. When the sheriff comes to her that night with the news, her crazed, violent brother-in-law, Jason, "claims her". She flees to the church where the pastor and his wife offer to send her on a train to their cousin in Virginia. Jason threatens that he will follow her and find her.

    At a rest stop, she finds an ad in the Matrimonial Times and acts on it. Transferring her train ticket, she heads for Colorado, hoping to elude Jason.

    Maxwell, hoping to become sheriff in his Colorado town needs to be married to be truly considered for the position, so his step-mother places an ad in the Times without him knowing. How will he react when he finds out and then finds a young woman in his house waiting for him?

    Sweet Romance

    I enjoyed the characters in this story. Colette was a believable widow terrified with the option she faced. Maxwell had an interesting personality. I especially enjoyed his brother full of the impatience of youth. The romance was delightful, but the story was worth reading just for the insight into how to relate to and train a horse. A good read.

    Good story

    A multi author series with each novel having the ability to stand alone. A group of my favorite historic romance authors are writing the novels. Colette had few choices. She was devastated by the he death of her husband. Women in that time had very few rights. She was fortunate to find an advertisement for a bride accepting a widow just in time.

    I enjoyed reading this captivating story that is well written with charismatic characters. Their story has a satisfying HEA!.
