My Fiance's Dad (Forbidden Fantasies, #1) Reviews

  • Lynsey A

Well, let's see. This had semi-poor writing. The blurb was completely misleading. She wasn't "raging" over her cancelled wedding and the pregnancy was at the very end. Nor would I exactly call things forbidden. She wasn't engaged anymore when she hooked up with the dad and her fiance broke up with her because So, no, I didn't see anything forbidden.

Also big huge RED FLAG ALERT!

☠ The hero completely and in all ways touched the heroine without her consent. One: he hadn't said a word to her how he felt about her and he had no idea how she felt about him and Two: SHE WAS ASLEEP!!! Licking her nipple, putting his fingers inside her (even if she did orgasm in her sleep) is absolutely wrong. No, just no.

☠ Plus, he never told her he did it. Never apologized. I can't recall if he even said it was wrong of him to do it.

    Other things to bothered me:

✘ The writing went from sexy to just bland in the book.

✘ The first sex scene was descriptive and sexy then every other one after that was closed door.

✘ The author actually used "twat" to describe the vagina. Come on, that is not sexy at all.

✘ The "extra epilogue" on her website went totally 180 and had anal happening.

✘ It was like two different authors wrote this book.

✘ The characters felt immature. The hero was 45 and the heroine 25.

✘ No clear indication if the h slept with the fiance. Kinda hinted but then kinda said they didn't. It was never clear.

✘ Characters were one dimensional and pretty boring

✘ Plus hero looked like a tool wanting to get the engagement ring back. I get that it was a family heirloom but it just came across as douchey.

The whole story was eye roll worthy, the internal dialog cringe worthy, the hero's actions were this side of illegal and the writing was bland with no heart. Pass on this author.

  • Brittanica Bold

There are many ways to describe the female anatomy. Sweetly creaming hole should never be one of them.

  • Antonella

with this kind of premise, I expected steaminess up the roof...
instead, we have this dry AF storyline and bland characters with lots of stereotypes
not impressed at all, and I wouldn't recommend
don't plan to continue the series... even though it was short, I could have skipped it
at least I used it for a reading challenge...

  • Crystal (Crystalreads2)

I thought the story was slow and all over the place. I couldn't connect with the main characters.

  • Roz

    DNF.@ 50 ish %

what the actual f*ck was this?! I should’ve read the reviews first :’( wasted like two hours on this.

besides the bland character, the writing was so bad I don’t think I could’ve continued reading even if the characters were okayish. one of their interactions she called him a “meanie” and that was the cringiest thing ever. I’m sorry I just can’t read about adult/ older characters acting like children.

    *spoilers*

The part that made me DNF this is the fact that he sexually touched her (fingered her) while she was asleep. No consent. He didn’t even know if she was attracted to him. And he decided not to tell her the next day. wtf. He was very creepy and his POV was just red flags left and right. Her pov was boring asf and she’s a little too naive.

this book made me uncomfortable. these are just all my personal opinions/ how I felt about this.

  • Thirstygirl *semi-hiatus*

Too many things about this didn’t work for me.

    ***Mild Spoiler Alerts***

Cora’s fiancé is acting strangely the day of their engagement party. Afterward he confesses he’s gay and in love with his bf, and they ride off into the sunset (with Cora’s blessing, basically).

I found Cora a bit too understanding about the whole thing. I mean, he couldn’t help being gay but he COULD help having lied to her (for who knows how long bc we didn’t get the details on the length or their relationship) and proposing when he knew his heart wasn’t in it. She wasn’t happy about it, but she wasn’t all that angry, either. I guess the author wanted us to feel that she was really okay about it so she could move on to his dad.

When Cora goes off to her family cabin to lick her wounds, her almost-FIL comes to retrieve the priceless heirloom engagement ring (and also because he has feelings toward Cora). Basically, what we get is a forced proximity romance where they’re trapped together due to a storm. That part of things was… fine. I wasn’t feeling much heat honestly. There was still a bit of that almost-DIL/FIL dynamic going on between them—not sure if that was a conscious effort on the part of the author to make it feel more taboo? And while we’re talking taboo, the author decided to sneak some unexpected somnophilic play in there where the hero violates her while sleeping—well before they’ve established a physical relationship with one another. Take that as you will.

    Other criticisms:

I don't love when authors lean into gay stereotypes, and I don’t like it when they beat me over the head with descriptions of the main characters. How many times did I have to read about how handsome he was, with his blue eyes and black hair. Or worse, how Cora is just full of curvy curves with an ample ass and bosom. Every time the hero looks at her, he’s admiring her “full, womanly figure” or “full breasts” or “full hips.” Did the author think I was going to forget she was a curvy girl?

It’s just so unnecessary. I don’t need constant reminders of what the characters look like. I think a lot of readers would agree that after some initial description, less is more! We will fill in our own stuff and don’t need the repetition of words like slim, toned, muscular, curvy, full, ample, huge, tiny, voluptuous, whatever thrown in there all the time.

Overall, it was a quick, somewhat predictable read. I’d maybe try this author again if it was free but I wouldn’t go out of my way to look for it.

The blub of his one was super misleading not what I was expecting at all.

Clear issue around consent in this as well which had me frowning.

    Slow and rather bland.

    Freebie on amazon.

I know this book is supposed to be just fairly lighthearted fun, but I spent most of my time shaking my head. First, the beginning was borderline offensive with the stereotypes. The fiancee, Mary (Marky? Really? How old is this guy?) comes out to her and she should have known because he is specific in his compliments on her outfits but not her. And because he buys high end facial products.

“Honestly Marky? I’m not saying any of this to hurt you – I’m upset with myself maybe more than you. I should have asked you about why you’re so physically distant or how in the world you came to care so much about face creams and under-eye serums.

As much I admire Marky’s gorgeous looks and perfect skin, the man has a more complicated beauty regimen than most women. I’ve seen him drop hundreds of dollars on creams, masks, colognes, and hair products. His wardrobe is meticulous and full of perfectly cut blazers, bright polos, and Italian loafers. He loves fashion magazines and is always suggesting different outfit ideas for me. I’d always assumed his interest was just because he likes looking good, and that’s a positive, right? I could be dating a guy who wears sweats everyday and smells like a locker room.

So she goes to stay at her family cabin that she has been to many times before in her youth, but never learned how to start a fire. Storm rolls in and she starts a fire. With lighter fluid. And old newspaper. And, surprise! the fire gets out of control. So she goes to get a pot of water, not a fire extinguisher, to pour on the fire. But now the fire is so big that she is hot. So she takes off all her clothes and is down to her underwear, trying to put out the fire.

Our heroine is sleepy because fighting fires in your underwear and being slightly shocky are tiring, so the hero leads her upstairs where he then molests her in her sleep.

I'm going to stop here, but you get the idea.

  • A.B. Shepherd

It's one thing to have the age difference and taboo aspects of the relationship between an older man and his son's ex-fiance. It's another thing for the H to sexually molest the h when she is sleeping, even if her body did respond. Her unconscious response does not equal consent and I lost all respect for the H when he could not control his desires in that moment.

Oh and for God's sake the woman deserved a new ring!

Otherwise this book is ok, and likely would have received three stars from me.

    Forbidden

Wow I can't say about this author! I have read many books by S.E Law and can they don't disappoint! So if you love forbidden romance with just the right amount of angst this book is it. A must read! I can't read them fast enough so I end up re-reading them and they are still just as good if not better. You can easily fall in love with the charters.

    Having enjoyed
Blackmailing My Dad's Best Friend by the same author, I decided to read this one next but unfortunately it missed the mark for me.

    - Dubious consent
    - The leads had no chemistry
    - Angry Alpha Male trope ugh
    - Overly far-fetched and contrived plot (not buying the whole ring thing)

Overall, the story felt dull and listless while also bordering on creepy. It's very different from Blackmailing My Dad's Best Friend, which I couldn't put down.

Also, does every book really have to end in pregnancy and babies to be considered a happy ever after? Nope.

  • Raine

    A little slow

Not bad, a little bit slow in some places, but still a decent read. A girl and her future father-in-law lusting after each other. The end seems a bit rushed and the awkwardness of telling their families were glossed over.

  • haniyah

    “i can’t really explain it I haven’t got the words…..”- tom holland

No because what was this storyline . No words. the characters were bland. i found the dialogue weird or maybe im just weird but no.

    Will Cora get her HEA?

Cora gets some shocking news the night of her engagement party, to who she thought was her perfect man. After the shocking revelation she decides to takes a little time to herself at her family's cabin, but ends up getting an unexpected visitor. Can Cora get her HEA with a different man? This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

  • angie

First and foremost, I read this because I'm looking for something different to read. The premise of this one is a bit on the unusual side but I still decided to jump into it.

This is actually not taboo, on my opinion. It reads as a whirlwind romance with an age gap trope/theme thrown into it.

I love the chemistry between Matt and Cora. It was really great.❤

Some too convenient things happened along the way. The major conflict was brushed off at the end but I still enjoyed reading this.😅

If you're looking for a fun quick read with not that much conflict and an age gap, whirlwind romance, this one's for you.👍

  • Jessica Mitchell

A quick short story, but all the sweeter in the end. Couldn't ask for a better story with a couple twists. This was I was happy with it all. It doesn't seem like anything is missing in this story. I'm a bit behind in placing this review due to family things going on. But regardless I'm doing it now that I'm quickly catching up.
Cora is just a sweet girl with a great boyfriend who proposed to her. Only everything isn't as it seems in her world. And with the shi.. hits the fan, it's a roller coaster ride that Cora never wants to get off of. She'd prefer to stay on it in the very end if it can be so.

I don’t know where to start but this book using womanhood on repeat of every sex scene that’s just should give me enough reason to give a zero rating

  • B00kFair¥

This might be the shortest story i read but it was exciting

  • K_IndieWoods

3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ For the most part this is a sweet and steamy romance. There was a sex scene involving a sleeping woman who had not give consent before hand. I found that to be disturbing and triggering.

  • ria 💜 (forbiddenxfroggie)

it was good untill it wasn’t

sorry but unconscious fingering the girl that almost died and you having fun with her because you can’t resist her body? no.

  • Mandy Reads Indie

This was such a fun and flirty read. The romance between both Matt and Cora was fiery and sweet. A perfect balance. I thought Cora handled the whole Marky thing with a little too much calm. I on the other hand wouldn’t have been as restrained. To each their own. But the story was great and I adored the characters. 5 Stars!

As much as I love the book. There was one scene that almost made me put the book down. But I'm glad I didn't. If your looking for smutt with a good story line. Give this a try!

    DNF at 79%

Honestly, I'm so disappointed with this book, that I can't even express it with words.

As a person who loves Taboo books, this was looking really exciting, but with every page, my frustration grew up.

There were so many wrong things with this book. Like how can a person not know his SO is homosexual, even if they lived together so many years?

The characters were one of the most boring ones, I've ever read, and the writing was just as lame.

Cora was dumb. And that's it. That was her main quality. You are in your mid 20's how you can not know how to start a fire? In a freaking fireplace!!!

And Matt what were you thinking? . So Matt you were a prick, I don't love you, honestly, I don't even like you. You were rude and shallow, pretty egotistical as well.

The writing itself wasn't that bad, but it made me doze off, so I can say it was amazing as well.

Probably gonna give this author another chance in the future, but not anytime soon.

*Also this title is pretty dull

    Heroine - 2/6
    Hero - 1/6
    Plot Twist - -/6
    Ending - -/6
    Storyline - 2/6

  • Elizabeth Sellers

If you’ve read any story by this author, it’s always the same thing: lower to middle class 18-25 year old heroine complaining that she’s unattractive because she’s a “curvy brown eyed brunette and not a size four blonde” while the hero is always an “alpha male” in his early to mid forties with black hair and blue eyes who happens to be very rich. They have sex, she gets pregnant, and she always ghosts him but it turns out he’s always wanted to be a father and they get a very stereotypical happy ending with him asking her to marry him and she always says yes. Let’s not forget that we have to be reminded constantly that she’s curvy and he’s rich because God forbid the reader is a goldfish who can’t remember.

That being said, this was awful from the start. Cora’s disposable fiancé Marky comes out as gay during the tail end of their engagement party. And apparently she knew about it not because of the gay porn she found on his computer but because he takes care of his hygiene and wears nice clothing and compliments her clothing but not her. What a stereotype. Also he gets no consequences for breaking the engagement and even gets rewarded for it with Cora’s blessing to run off in the sunset with the boyfriend he cheated on her with in a halfhearted attempt to make Cora sound saintly and to not be (any more) homophobic than the author already is.

But it’s par for the course with this family.

After Marky’s father Matt, who has a massive crush on his former future daughter in law, heads to the cabin where Cora has run away to because he wanted the ring he insured back, he finds the cabin on fire and Cora in her underwear and a coat trying poorly to put it out. What caused the fire? In a “genius” move, Cora tried to start a fire in the cabin’s fireplace by dousing the logs in lighter fluid and using old newspaper as kindling. This is excused as her being distraught by the broken engagement despite her having given Marky her blessing.

It only gets worse from here. After putting the now helpless child woman Cora to bed, Matt suddenly turned from 45 to a horny teenage boy who claims he can’t help himself from molesting Cora in her sleep. He feels very little guilt about his actions and just like his son, he gets rewarded for his terrible behavior by getting a full week of sex with Cora while they’re stranded in the cabin due to thunderstorms. And they use no protection and they ghost each other afterwards until she confronts him that she’s pregnant and he’s so happy and all three of these adult children live happily ever after with no consequences for their actions.

Also the title is incredibly misleading since the engagement was broken before anything happened between these two.

Nope nope nope. Also holes. Holes. Holes. Holes. Creaming holes. Steaming lips. Holes everywhere.

One for you, two for her!

Here's what happened in a nutshell:

    Older Male/ Younger Woman - I'm in
    Almost Father-in-Law/Jilted Bride - I'm in
Break up where no one is really the victim - ok cool
Forbidden - well, not really, but I'll allow it for now
poor use of wording- yes, this is becoming an issue now. *please see holes
    THAT SCENE - HELL NO

    What happened?

    I'll tell you:

    TW (Possible Trigger warning):

    Holes

Her little hole winks at me even as her bud stands up at attention, waving with arousal

First, I didn't know that the clitoris was mobile enough to wave. Good to know I guess. Maybe mine will start helping out with the grocery shopping.

If I ever had a sexual partner constantly refer to my vaginal canal as a hole, a creaming hole, a wet hole, or any type of reference that refers to a vaginal canal as a cylindrical hole - I'm out. Call it pussy, call it (incorrectly but I'll still allow it) vagina, call it ladybits, hell, call it a cunt, but whatever you want to call it, please don't call it the least sexy word you can find. Hole. It's a deeply unsexy word. But also, please don't use the backup Twat, which was done.

Oh and my favorite: the reference to the labia as steamy pink lips -- which sounds disgusting and this is either a haunted vagina or the heroine has a tiny volcano in her canal and only the steam is escaping her 'hole'.

    TL:DR?
TW: Nonconsensual sexual activity with an unconscious woman
    Skip it.
