A Dream for Harper (Willow Wood Brides #3) Reviews

I really enjoyed Harper’s story and her strength of character in her faith and in facing the unknown. The suspense and romance blended well and took you on an enjoyable journey. I loved the surprising twist near the end and I didn’t figure it out until just before it was revealed, so kudos to this new author to me. I found myself teary eyed over the pain Ellie endured but I was encouraged over the hope that is shown. I look forward to reading more by this author. I would have given this five stars but several editing mistakes were noticeable to me and took away from the story, however it was a great descriptive work.

    Calling on Family

Harper's life changes dramatically when a cousin calls on her to move across the country to help him care for his daughter suffering from melancholy. This romance also includes mystery and suspense. Believable characters and a great plot. I enjoyed it very much.

What would you do if you were asked to give up everything and travel to a place far from home? How would you feel if you knew you were going to a relative’s house you don’t know? Could you trust God as you try to help someone who needs a friend? Harper finds herself doing just that in this adventure filled with danger, intrigue, forgiveness and trust.
It was easy to like Harper because she has such a giving heart. It was hard for her to leave her family but she went because her mother hoped she would have a better life. Willow Wood sounds like such a charming little town. It was starting to blossom and Harper was a little excited and nervous when she arrived. I liked Logan and his charm. Of course he has his doubts about Harper when he sees her. Judging her by her clothes he figured she was there to take advantage of her wealthy relatives. Their relationship was fun to read and I loved how they seemed to irritate each other.
Harper and Ellie don’t quite hit it off at first, but Harper has this way about her that draws people to her. Ellie is suffering from depression due to the love of her life disappearing on her. I wanted Ellie to realize how loved she was by others and know that God was taking care of her. He is the only one that can mend her broken heart.
Ellie’s dad is mean, judgmental and prideful. He says he has his daughters best interest at heart, but deep down his “love of money” will be his downfall. The author does an excellent job of taking us through the ups and downs Harper experiences trying to reach Ellie. The story is emotional at times and surprised me with several twists in the story. I wasn’t prepared for the ending , but it is written in a way that showed how greed can destroy a person. I have read the other books in this series and each one brings hope, forgiveness and a lesson in trust and unconditional love. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

A Dream for Harper by author Teresa Slack is Book 3 in the Willow Wood Bride Series. It can be read as a stand-alone. This is a Christian historical western romantic fiction book. That’s not all, it has mystery, intrigue, suspense, and inspiration.

This is the story of feisty Harper Dixon. She travels from Kentucky to help a family member in Idaho that she has never even met, cousin Ellie Lundy. Poor Ellie is broken hearted because the man she loves, Matthew Dunleavy, has left her and disappeared.

Harper begins an investigation on Matthew and why he might have left. She looks for help from Logan Kinski. He works for the family and does not really trust Harper.

I was invested from the moment the young lady from Kentucky journeyed miles away to Idaho. Harper is a lovely character and easy to befriend. I loved her.

The author has a very nice way of storytelling. She took me back in time to the West and I experienced it while reading. The characters are relatable and well rounded. I find myself still thinking about a few of them.

I enjoyed the life lessons and spiritual messages woven throughout the story. Many were subtle and others very plainly outspoken. The mystery has some twists and turns that make this a page turner.

I highly recommend this whether you read it as the third in this series or a stand-alone novel. There is something for most everyone to enjoy. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest opinions. I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars.

'She knew what she'd miss if she left home, while she had no idea what she'd miss if she stayed.'

With these thoughts, Harper Dixon reluctantly leaves her Kentucky home for a new life, with relatives that she's never met, in a place called Willow Wood, Idaho. She soon discovers a world of wealth and privilege that she never imagined but it is also a life where joy and happiness seem elusive. The closeness that she had always enjoyed with her own family is missing in the home of her cousin Hugh Lundy and his daughter Ellie and it appears that Harper might not be successful in helping Ellie overcome her depression. Is there more to Ellie's sadness than grief over being jilted by the man she loved?

A Dream for Harper has colorful characters and several intriguing plot twists, including a mystery concerning Ellie's former beau Matthew and the growing attraction that Harper feels for the Lundy's hired hand, Logan Kinski. There is also a shocking occurrence that I never saw coming! Will Harper remain in Willow Wood to help her cousins or will she return to Kentucky and the family that she misses so much?

Author Teresa Slack has written an enjoyable historical Christian romance and I look forward to the next book in the Willow Wood Brides series.

I received a digital copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. These are my own opinions.

“Your dreams are higher than these hills. You gotta fly, little bird”. These were the words of Harper’s mother to Harper.
That conversation prepared me for an adventure into the book settings/plot.

Harper is a strong character that I learnt many things from. I love how she prays over any situation on ground. I admire her determination and inquisitiveness.

Logan, dear Logan. You need to watch out for him while reading this book.

Ellie is another character in this book. Her story made me realise what grief and love can do to a person. I could empathise with her.

This book was full of suspense and it is a page turner. I really wanted to get to the end of the matter. I followed the adventure right from when Harper came into Willow Wood.

The Christian messages in this book got my attention. I highly recommend this book. Forgiveness and love are themes that drew my attention here.

The suspense in this book made me to flip each page because I couldn’t put the book down.

I read it within few hours in a day. I am giving it a 5 stars rating. The author did a good job with this book.

I end this review with a question. Do you have a dream?

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are mine.

I have had the pleasure of reading the first two books in this series. They're wonderful and really provide a bit of backstory for the town where it takes place. Though you could read this as a stand alone book if you wanted to.
There is another book coming in the series and I can't wait to see what it's all about.
Poor Ellie. I feel so bad for her. This definitely gives you empathy. And Harper is a hoot. She's full of fire and determination. Though at first she's not sure how she can be a help, she comes around to what her purpose can be here.
Logan is a fun character as well and I enjoyed watching how he and Harper interacted.
This is a great suspense/romance book that will keep you turning the pages and won't let you put the book down. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend you read it. Though of course, I recommend you read the entire series as well.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Ellie shows all the elements of a broken soul--grief, pain, withdrawal, weakness, sorrow. Harper is expected to bring life back into the girl's woeful existence.

Pain is a personal trial, whether physical, mental, or emotional. It is hard to let someone in when the pain is only real to the "patient." The person can be labeled insane, heartbroken, emotional wreck--any label results in a person experiencing a depth of hurt rendering the individual unstable, for a time.

Enters someone who cares to see beyond the face of pain! When I see someone in pain, how often do I l listen instead of allowing my mind to settle on my own way of fixing the situation. As I've learned in life, there is usually more to the point than what is on the surface. There is always a back story, a history. I am called to listen, to leave the healing to God and do what He asks me to do. If I set out on my own, I'm more likely to get the diagnosis and the "medicine" wrong. Patience--days, weeks, years. some pain might never cease this side of heaven.

I enjoyed Harper's journey as she tries to help another soul.

What I think you should know:
A Dream for Harper is the third book in the Willow Wood Brides series by Teresa Slack. It is Christian Historical Fiction set in 1890 in what will become Idaho. This book is set after the previous books and gives small updates about the characters in the previous books. You do not have to have read the prior books, but they do give you an understanding of the town and some of its residents.

What I think about this book:
Each of the previous books had action and adventure, but they were much more lighthearted than this story. This story contained more of a mystery element. Harper has moved west to be a companion to her cousin Ellie, but finds that not all situations are as they appear. I loved Harper and seeing her view of her new life. Logan was also an intriguing character. I appreciated his devotion to his friend and his determination to keep his promise to him. I enjoyed this story more than any that I have so far in the series and look forward to the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

I love the Willow Wood Bride Series. This is book 3 in the series, and it is the 3rd one that I have read. In this book we meet Harper. A strong and determined Christian woman. She leaves her family behind to care for a cousin she did not know existed. I do not know if I could have done the same if I were in her shoes. Ellie, the cousin and Harper do not hit it off right away - there is some tension. Ellie appears to suffer from depression. Ellie's dad - has a very judgmental side. Enter Logan - who has a very bad impression of Harper. This book shows you can't judge based off looks. Logan feels that Harper is there to take advantage of Ellie and her family. However, watching their relationship unfold is entertaining to watch. The book has some twists and turns that will leave you guessing.

This book is part of a series, but can be read as a stand a lone. This book has well written characters. It has a great story line. I can't wait to read book 4.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program. All thoughts are my own.

    Harper and Logan ❤️

Another sweet and clean romance. Harper and her large family live in near poverty in Kentucky. She receives a request from a very wealthy cousin she's never met out in Idaho asking if she would come help take care of his ailing daughter.

Once she gets to Idaho, her cousin is not the one to meet her at the train station, but a handsome and quiet cowboy named Logan. He immediately judges her as seeking to butter up the family for their wealth. Will he come to find her as a gentle and caring young lady with a heart for the Lord? Harper falls for him fairly quickly, but thinks he is in love with her cousin, Ellie.

Harper tries her best to care for Ellie, who is living in seclusion due to a broken heart. Her true love has vanished and she has been consumed with grief. But did Matthew truly just leave her, or was their foul play involved?

Lots of twists and turns and suspense. I also loved the message of how Jesus' death on the cross gave us His forgiveness for our sins. 💕🙏🏼💕

Harper leaves her family and goes to be a companion to her cousin, Ellie, in Willow Wood, who has a case of melancholy due to her fiance' leaving her. Harper finds herself in a difficult position. Ellie's father is hardly ever there and Ellie seems distant and hard to reach.

The story has a lot of mystery surrounding it, a twist I didn't see coming, and lots of suspense. It's a story of forgiveness, new relationships, new love, and accepting yourself and moving on.

The characters were well-developed. Ellie was withdrawn but still learned to reach out. Harper was a loving person dedicated to truly making a difference. Logan was strong in his faith and a strong character with lots to give. I enjoyed following their growth throughout the story.

Highly recommended. A tear-jerker at times, but very inspirational.

I received a copy of the book and voluntarily choose to review it.

  • Tabitha Bouldin

This book was quite entertaining. I loved Harper and Logan’s interactions with each other and the way they both wanted to protect Ellie. Even though their misconceptions and attitudes led them to originally be distrustful of each other, the story and relationships build in a natural way that made the resolution all the better.

The ending surprised me. Definitely didn’t see that coming, and it made me want to go back and reread the book to see if I’d missed something or if the shock value truly came through as unexpected as I originally thought.

Fun characters and a great setting with a nice pacing made this book a true escape. Historical fans, you’ll want to read this one.

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I really liked this book. It is a historical romance with some mystery and suspense thrown in. I really liked Harper. She is a great character, very strong and determined. Logan was great too. He was loyal and brave. This is the third in a series but I read it as a stand alone.
The story unfolds wonderfully. Harper is a wonderful cousin and curious. She wants so badly to help Ellie. The come from completely different backgrounds but she loves her cousin. There is romance, suspicion, suspense, and more. I will absolutely look for the other books this author has written.
It was a 5/5 for me. I truly enjoyed it.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

  • Maureen Timerman

This book begins with a mother having to make such a hard decision, one that meant she probably would never see her daughter again. She was sending her to live with a wealthy cousin in Idaho, knowing her daughter deserved more than they could ever give her.
What would it be like to have always toiled from infancy, to go to a life where her Uncle/Cousin wanted her to do nothing but be with his daughter. An active person would have a very hard time being constantly idle.
Will Harper be able to help her cousin? Will she find a love of her own? Or will the facts as they come out destroy all?
I never expected the ending in this read, wow, keep page turning!

I received this book through Celebrate Lit. and was not required to give a positive review.

It is SO frustrating when you have a review written (on a Kindle) & see one tiny error. You go to correct it. Your finger hits the screen twice and POOF! The whole review & rating disappears.

This book is GOOD! Teresa Slack is a new author for me. I discovered her in Book 1 and immediately downloaded book 2 & book 3 from KU (Kindle Unlimited). Not many authors can maintain that cutting edge needed for a five-star review.
    Teresa Slack can.

What do I like about her books? First, the characters. They are charming, cantankerous, hard-headed, kind, annoying, rugged -- in other words, you the reader find out who they are as people. The scenes are nicely done to help the reader visualize the story. And bless her! They have an ending. A real honest-to-goodness ending.

There is at least one more book in this series because the first two chapters are included at the end of this one -- it's about Felicity. And yes, I will be reading it. Highly recommend this series. While each can be standalone books, I think you will enjoy it more if you read them in order.

    A dream for Harper

Harper is sent far away from home to help out her cousin. Ellie, her cousin has emotional issues after boyfriend left. Will Harper be able to help her? It was hard for Harper to leave her family. I admired Harper on how she adjusted to her new home.

There is a mystery in the story of what happened to Ellie’s boyfriend, Matthew. Where is he? I was surprised of a things that happened. I felt bad for Ellie, she really went through a lot.

Harper and Logan meet when she arrives. They become good friends but will it be more? Read and see. I really enjoyed this book.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.

A Dream for Harper, by Teresa Slack, is book 3 in the Willow Woods Bride series. I have read the other two and most of the time , I recommend reading all the books in order, but these books can be enjoy as standalones. This is a romance but has a mystery, what happened to Matthew, did he just leave or did something happen to him.
This book has twists that I didn't see coming. This book clearly shows that money is often a person's downfall.
Harper is my favorite character because she doesn't just live for herself, she thinks and does for others.
I was given a contemporary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my own opinions.

  • Tina Yarrall

A mystery with a romance on the side.

This book does well to keep you guessing about the over riding mystery surrounding Matthew’s disappearance. This intrigued me enough to overlook the few times where small parts of character inner dialogue felt repetitive. The main character’s romance played second place in this mystery story. A nice change of pace and like the first book in the series it has an exciting section near the end with lots of action that keeps you hooked.

  • Shonda

Incredible characters that touch your heart! This was such a mesmerizing story, I was hooked from the first page. The author keeps the reader engrossed within the pages with mystery, romance and a longing for healing. This is an outstanding series that has me binge reading!

  • Margie

“If she were a single brushstroke on a canvas, she couldn’t see the whole masterpiece. But the Master saw”. Only the Master could have seen that spoiled rich Ellie needed devout quiet Harper, but she did. There are lots of unexpected twists and turns to this story and I loved it.
