How this story came to be...
I had submitted the novella 'All Things Except Blood' to the defunct Venus Press, and when it was accepted I saw that VP had a call for their authors for very short stories to be included in their new 'Confessions' line. If I remember correctly, the maximum length was to be between 4000 and 5000 words. That is *really* short, but I thought it would be an interesting challenge.
I had mentioned the club On The Edge in my first novel CheckMate and said it was a place where humans went to meet vampires, so I decided to show one such couple. The names of the characters are of course significant. Virginia is not a virgin when she first goes to the club, but her sexual experience is somewhat limited - something she wants to remedy. As for Anando, his name means 'bliss', which I thought was appropriate!
Looking back, I'm glad that I didn't choose anything too wild for their first 'game'. Anything more intense might have scared Virginia away, and she might not have returned for a second night... or more! -
This is the first of Kallysten's work that I have ever read. I took a chance on her based on my friend, Madame D's, recommendation. Let me tell you I was not disappointed!
In this novella is where we find Virginia. Virginia has decided that she was going to find out what it felt like to be up close and personal with a vampire. She had always been facinated with vampires and was surprised that she hadn't slept with one earlier in her life. She decided to go to On the Edge, a vampire-friendly club.
Here is where we meet Anando. Virginia's eyes were drawn to him the minute he stepped into her line of sight. He was surrounded by younger, prettier, and sexier females than she. She just wanted to get near him. She knew that she could never compete with the other women so she was surprised when he raised his hand towards her.
Kallysten delivers a boatload of steaminess in this novella. It's a wonderful ride into a sinfully sexual world. -

Kallysten has made a name for herself. As a writer of some hot erotica books, I knew that I would be missing out if I didn’t read any of her work. The Out of the Box series is nothing like what I’ve read before. Each chapter features a different kink that is both intensely hot and alluring. Kallysten gets points for such a creative idea! In the beginning of the book, the chapters are outlined with a chapter title and I had to stop myself from reading down the list because I didn’t want to spoil anything! I wanted to be surprised as I started a new chapter, wondering what Kallysten was going to come up with next!
Out of the Box starts off with Virginia entering, On The Edge, a nightclub and she finds herself in the arms of a sexy vampire named Anando. The books follow Virginia and Anando home where Anando proposes a game. Virginia has to pick something out of a box and that is what they use for the night. The toys in the box vary in intensity and I think Kallysten does a great job of increasing the intensity at a gradual pace.
What I loved about Virginia is that she embraces her sexuality and isn’t afraid to take Anando’s words and make them reality. Anando may be the guy, but I think Virginia has the upper hand in this relationship. I loved her strength and adored the fact that she was pretty fearless throughout this entire thing.
Anando, on the other hand....I’m not sure what to say about him. Sexy doesn’t cover it. There’s this darkly seductive thing he has going on that vampires are known for. But with his minimal words and Virginia’s descriptions of him, there’s no wonder why Virginia felt so strangely attracted to him.
To say the least, Out of the Box is a unique, hot read and fans of vampire erotica need to read about Anando! I’ve already got Will and Aria by Kallysten, so that’s my next erotica read! -
Ok this is the first in this series of short stories, and its the first of Kallys work iv read. And omg I loved it, hot and steamy I all most passed out from over heating lol.
It starts out in a club with a girl called Virginia, she has a thing for vampires and has gone to the club to meet one. and maybe be more.
When she is dancing she spots one, he isn't very tall, but he is sexy ad hell. He's Dancing with 4 girls but only has eyes for virginia, he takes her hand and starts dancing with her, and before to long they end up back at his house and in the bedroom. This is where it gets exciting, Anando (vamp) pulls out this box and its full of sex toys, he makes Virginia pick one and then they go to the bed and man it gets hot and exciting, so exciting it makes me want to change places with her.
Ok I'm stopping there, because I don't want to excite you to much. YOU MUST BUY THIS BOOK.
Kallysten goes into great detail in this book, which I really love, It makes you think about being in the room with them (I wish). This book is very hot and steamy and I will say not for the prudish but for my fellow kinkbags you will love it. This book is hot and steamy. The only problem I had was that Kally only gave me the first to review, because oh man I wanna read the rest lol.
go check out my review on my blog to see what extra points this book got.

The Out of the Box books are a series of short and steamy novellas. I only happen to own the first two, but I will definitely be continuing on with the series. I don't know why I waited so long to get to them.
Book One is where we meet Virginia. She knows that the On the Edge club is a place frequented by vampires. She was curious, and she couldn't resist the urge to see them, to enjoy their bite. It's there that she meets Anando, who though he is swarmed by eager young ladies, chooses her. Before she knows it, she's back at his place playing a whole new game...
Book one flies by. I knew it would be short (it is a novella after all). But it seemed like I was only just getting started and the first installment was over. I have to say though, it's quality not quantity. Kallysten writes in good detail and knows just how to grab my attention. From Anando's subtle teases, to the big white trunk of "fun" in his room, and even to the steamier pieces, I definitely just wanted more.
Thankfully, I had book two on hand as well.
This was a steamy, fast, and fun read. If you like a good vampire sexcapade mixed with a club scene and trunk full of adult toys, than this is a series I recommend you check out. Thanks to author Kallysten for the prize of book two. This review can also be found on my blog,

Out of the Box
by Kallysten
Wow, This was hot and steamy!
And that is for sure.
I think that Virginia curiosity was satisfy.
This was a story i couldnt stop reading intel i was done.
Then i didnt want it to be done.
Out of the Box came so much. The lust was high.
One of the line's from the story was such a breaker for me
"It’s going to sound stupid, but I was going to say, he
dances the same way he makes love."
Come on that just get's your mind doing some crazy stuff!
This was a all around good story.
Kallysten sure know how to write sexy and hot..And she is sure to make you want more:):)
Happy Reading Everyone

This is a one hot short read again.
I liked how it start that the main character Virginia is just like reminiscing all that had happened between her and Anando (weird name but suits a vampire.
Its about role playing trying to remember their first night together...
Its sweet and steamy!!! -
It's a pretty good read. I love a good vampire story. The only thing I find hard about the series is the writing in first person. But I guess that is a plus for me that it is in short doses (short story). Anando is very sexy...can't wait to read the next one.
-
A fantastic intro into the Out of the Box story. The way the story was written felt so real and kept me reading quickly to find out what was going to happen. I can't wait to find out what happens when Virginia returns to Anando. That little box of fantasies is too good to miss.
-
I love a good vampiric steamy hot read. This short little number left me wanting to read more and more. I really liked Virginia, she was bold and daring.
-
Too short, not much of a going on and very vanilla sex. Nuff said.
-
What?! Way too freakin short.
Amazon wants me to write at least 20 words for this review in order to publish it.. Smh.. Funny this first installment felt shorter than that! LOL -
A crappy vampiric cross between Twilight and Fifty Shades.
Not much happens in the book. No plot, no interesting twists. They meet, they have sex repeatedly, he runs away, she chases him. The end.
This was my first book from the author.
By all means read this, if you're a fan of this kind of stuff.
For me, it will definitely be the last. -
There is just something about this series that draws you in and hold your attention the whole time. Kallysten really has a talent for crating a beautiful tale that easily enthralls the reader.
Virginia is a great character, being curious myself I could really relate. Anando is delicious and charismatic. Loved this pairing and they make a delightful couple.
This book is beyond steamy!! Oh holy, hot and heavy!!! Seriously sit in a tub of ice while reading this!! Do not make the mistake of reading in public. You will be blushing and feeling naughty, everywhere. Loads of smexyiness throughout, each encounter hotter than the last.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollie Jackson, who does an awesome read. She has a great pace that helps draw out the heat. I love the slight rasp in her tone, it makes naughty bits really sing.
I am very happy I listened to the whole series in one book rather than reading it piece mail on my Kindle. I would have hated having to wait for the next part. This book merges the story and I really could not tell how it was broken up previously.
I am not always in love with vampires, but Kallyston really makes it HAWT!! I love her style and voice as an author, I really hope she does a smexy bear shifter series to really make me happy!
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own. -
I’m not a big vampire fan, but this had been a freebie once upon a time on Amazon, so I had downloaded it. Unfortunately, the story just didn’t do anything for me.
Virginia is curious about vampires and what it’s like to be bitten, so she decides to enter a vampire club one night. When she’s approached by Anando, she doesn’t hesitate to follow him home, where she learns whether she really enjoys being bitten, as well as what it’s like to have sex with a vamp.
Overall, if your guilty pleasure is reading about vampires, and maybe even vampires + sex, then I’d recommend picking up this short story. -
This story we good, but just too short to get into the characters...

I have never listened to any of author Kallysten's stories. I really enjoyed this set. I really enjoyed meeting Virginia and her need and boldness for wanting a vampire. Kallysten brings her work to life and I look forward to more of her stories. She's a very gifted writer and it shows in this set.
Hollie Jackson is a very gifted narrator. I've listened to many of her stories now. She never disappoints and she has this way to immerse you in every story I've ever listened to. Hollie pulled me in and kept me enthralled from start to finish. Overall, I give it a perfect 5 star rating! -
1st in the Out of The Box series. This is a short book. A human women goes into a vamp bar for the first time and meets a vamp who she ends up going home with. Will save the steamy details. She goes home the next day expecting to never go into the vamp bar again, but she ends up going back and is hoping to see the vamp she went home with from her last visit. Really quick read. Even though I want to read the next book, I will still a little upset about how quick the story went in this book.
-
A decent sex scene, but that is all it is. One scene really. I would have liked to have known more about both of them. I was intrigued enough by this very short intro to consider tracking down more parts to the story, but prefer my books come as one piece.

This was an enjoyable book. I really loved how the leading lady took charge and was...brave (wink wink) She goes into a vampire bar/club. Her goal? To take one of those deadly sexy men home and she does! My only problem was - this book was way too short.
(Shrug) It was fast, fun read. -
Short, sweet and to the point. The fact that it's a human and a vampire getting it on gives it some bonus points but to be honest it felt like just a sex scene out of a book, Small part of a bigger story. Hopefully others in this series have more content to them. -
Only complaint I have is that it was over too quickly.
-
Umm...that was interesting.
-
An ok read but nothing more.
-
I loved the book. Well written and very entertaining. Left me wanting more and that's a good thing.
-
A woman bored with her life, and a hot vampire ready to give it to her. Cue in the amount of steaminess! It’s a great introduction to Virginia’s world and I can’t wait to read more about these two!
-
So short and oh so sweet.
Love Anando...
Virginia overthinks things...
Definitely reading on...
Recommended Read! -
Short - not a lot going on. Poor characters... :(. Very disappointed!
