Sawyer

From the first moment I sit next to the sexy suit on the plane, the butterflies in my stomach have nothing to do with turbulence and everything to do with the way he’s looking at me.

When we land, he gives me his number, and I promise to call. Before I get the chance, we meet again.

It turns out he’s my new boss and nothing like the gentle stranger from the plane.

The longer I’m with Royce, the more I realize he has many layers, and I want to uncover them all one by one.

If only he would let me in.

Royce

Being CEO requires all of my focus, but I can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous woman from the plane with the gorgeous blonde hair and striking green eyes.

Sawyer Gibson is beautiful, intelligent, and very much off-limits. A line I shouldn’t cross.

Until I do... and there’s no going back.

I want all of her, but she deserves more than my hardened heart can give.

No matter how hard I try, I can't escape her.

OH MY MAGICAL STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! This book is everything I did not know I needed!! It is the first book in the Riggins brothers series and I can already tell it will be one of my favorites! Seriously, all the happy feels and I read it in one day. The Riggins brothers have stolen my ❤️!!

This book is Royce and Sawyer’s journey. Royce is the oldest brother and the CEO of his family’s business. After being hurt in his last relationship, he has chosen to focus only on work and his family. Sawyer quit her job due to her boss being unprofessional and decides to move across the country to start over at a new job. They have a “meet cute” on a plane and connect right away. What Sawyer does not realize is that Royce is her new boss! Both are surprised and know this could complicate matters. That makes her off limits, right? Can he stay away from her? Their journey was fun, sweet, and swoon worthy!! The chemistry and connection between them was perfect.

I absolutely loved the relationship between the brothers and even the parents. Their a family that love each other and are the perfect example of what a family is all about. The banter between the brothers was hilarious. I am so excited to read the next book in the series!

This is my first read by Ryan and it will not be my last! I am a huge fan already. I loved everything about this book! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loved this office romance. The bond that the Riggins' brothers share was amazing. It was great to see the chemistry between Royce and Sawyer!

    Royce and Sawyer

Sawyer was harassed at her job so she quit. Now she's on a plane sitting next to a very sexy guy. Sawyer is afraid of flying . Royce is sitting next to her and helps her through her panic attack. He thinks she's beautiful. She gets his number at baggage claim. He forgot to get hers. Well Sawyer starts her new job. Guess what Royce is her new boss.

Having read the prequel to this series and jumping straight into this one I really felt so well set up on who the Riggins brothers were. So when I started reading this book I already felt like I knew a little bit of Royce’s story and I was so ready to hear more of it. Because what the previous book had set up was one hell of a teaser as to the details of what had happened and they hadn’t been told in Royce’s POV so I was dying to see what had happened through his eyes.

From the first page I was a massive fan of Sawyer. She was a genuine person with no pretense and I really appreciated her for it. I loved that she wasn’t intimidated by the brothers once she got over their initial hotness. And I really loved that she didn’t play any games with Royce. She knew she wanted to explore their chemistry but she didn’t want to do it rashly and I appreciated that she thought out the consequences without just being swept along in the chemistry and strength of character that Royce possessed.

Because let me tell you the chemistry was strong with this one. I could feel it crackling from the first meeting, right along with the curiosity they each had with each other. I felt their connection aside from just the chemistry as well and I was really invested in their relationship.

I also love that we got a fair bit of all the brothers and their parents and that the family was so close and solidly there for each other. Not only do I feel like the next books are already really set up and I am dying to read them but I also am madly in love with their friends who have played a major part in the story.

I am so excited to see this new series develop and I can’t wait to get my grabby hands on the next one.

3 stars. This book is the definition of just ok. It’s very low angst, and not a whole lot actually happens. The hero does a lot of pushing away at the beginning but then it’s like a switch flips and he is all in - 100%. It was a little sudden imo, and there was also a ton of repetition with his feelings/ mental thoughts. I think this book could have easily been shorter and more concise.

Safety is good, neither virgins, but heroine’s past isn’t mentioned at all, hero was married and divorced. His wife left him for a woman and cheated on him. The wife causes a bit of drama, but it‘s minimal, and it’s clear that the hero never felt anything similar for her to what he feels for the heroine. The hero then only did one night hook-ups, but says it has been a while for him since the last one. No OM drama, no cheating, no scenes with om/ow, no lengthy separations.

Kaylee Ryan is one of these authors I can’t get enough of her words. She always achieves to captivate me with her heartwarming romances! Layer by Layer was another highly enticing story that filled my heart with happy feelings. This office romance combines all my favorite things: charming protagonists with powerful chemistry, humor and feels! I was riveted to my e-reader and didn’t want this novel to end.

I had previously met the Riggins brothers in the prequel novella, Play by Play, and already fell under their alluring personalities. This first novel in the series is about Royce, the CEO of Riggins Enterprises, and his new assistant, Sawyer. I just loved the way they meet by chance on a plane and connect right away. When they realize they work with each other, it complicates things and they try to stay away, but the attraction is undeniable.

Royce has been burned by love and he’s broody and taciturn. Trying to distance himself from Sawyer proves to be more difficult, when his four younger brothers become friendly with the young woman. It only brings out jealousy and possessiveness over her. I so enjoyed how it just pushes him to make his moves and leave behind his fears of commitment. After that he’s just absolutely charming and sweet. A truly dreamy hero!

Sawyer is the kind of heroine I appreciate a lot. She has fire and doesn’t shy away from putting Royce in his place when he’s too much. She’s really easy to connect with. Seriously, the banter between them is so entertaining and had me delighted. Their relationship builds so beautifully with emotional scenes as well as passionate ones.

One facet of this book I absolutely adored is the relationship between all the brothers. They like to tease each other like the loving siblings they are, but also know when to be supportive. They’re similar in some ways and different in others, but there’s something interesting about each one of them.

Layer by Layer had me laughing one instant and swooning the next one! The charismatic Riggins brothers had me compelled and I’m so giddy for the next few books in the series.

    3.5 ⭐️ rounded to 4 ⭐️

Layer by Layer is a new series which introduces us to the Riggins brothers who all work together in the family business. We were given a sneak peak in the prequel which introduces us to Royce (H) as the grumpy CEO carrying a lot of emotional baggage from his divorce and the company's weight on his shoulders. Grumpy Royce = Layer 1

The story starts off with a meet cute scene where Sawyer (h) is Royce's seat partner on the plane. (Corporate jet was going through maintenance so he had to slum it in first-class). Sawyer is terrified of flying and Royce is instantly attracted to his beautiful seatmate and consoles her during the flight. Sweet Royce = Layer 2

Later Royce finds out she is his (and his brothers)'s new assistant. Cue broody Royce, jealous Royce, at the lake Royce, carefree Royce...you get the idea.

My main issue is everyone says Royce is soooo guarded after his divorce that his sudden relationship with Sawyer felt contradicting to his persona. I feel like it lacked some character development to explain how he got over his trepidation of relationships.

Sawyer felt a bit one dimensional. She has some family baggage that is lightly touched upon but I never felt strongly about her character. I just felt like she was a really good assistant who is really helpful and pretty? And Royce is just like ❤️ you are the one! Also the conflict at the end felt very out of character for her.

Overall, it was a decent read and it spends a good amount of time introducing us to the rest of the brothers which makes sense since it's the first in the series. I am still intrigued about Owen (second brother) and will plan to read his book when it comes out.

I’m sorry to say I thought this was tedious; repetitive, lacking in plot, chemistry and tension, I was bored to tears.

They meet on a plane. Inexplicably, despite the fact she’s just landed a job as an Executive Assistant to a CEO for a private company she doesn’t know the name or indeed anything about her new boss. And despite the fact that he’s a control freak who needs to be able to work closely with his new EA, he had no part in recruiting to the position and has no idea of her name either. Right. Tbf, I think even the author struggled with the improbability of this set up, offering some convoluted explanations which were quite eye rolling.

There was no chemistry between them but he’d never felt like that before about anyone. We know this because he tells us every couple of pages. And if we haven’t got it from him telling us then his four brothers - all good looking, successful, rich, friendly and (improbably) single - also told us they’ve never seen their eldest brother look/behave/talk to anyone like he looks/behaves/talks to her every time they were in the company of one of both of them as well. Actually that was pretty much the extent of their interactions. Jeez I get it.

As the final insult, I bought the audiobook which had a gratingly awful male voice that veered from throat inflamed husky (forced) for him to papa smurf for his brothers. Truly awful.

I can see others have enjoyed this and good luck to them but I thought it was dire I’m afraid.

This story was cute, fun, swoony and all-around easy read. I loved how Royce and Sawyer meet. It was fresh and unique, and it went along with the stories easy aspect. I don’t want to give away too much of the story, but the match between Royce and Sawyer was on-point and made me swoon all on its own. Royce’s family, and Royce himself of course, were exactly what Sawyer needed in her life and vice versa. I’m smiling even now as I type this review thinking back on the story! It made the story more realistic and relatable for me and I just loved it!

So far this year I have read five books, including this one, by
Kaylee Ryan and I gotta tell you guys, she is super good with the words. Every book I’ve read has been very good with realistic characters and situations and the plots have unfolded naturally and with depth. I highly recommend to anyone any book by this author!

I know I'm in the minority but I really found this book's plot so hard to swallow. A group of 5 sibling billionaires all working together in harmony and their parents are both so sweet and welcoming to a woman they don't know from a bar of soap. Nah. And I really couldn't relate to the heroine Sawyer at all. Getting involved with the boss is a trope that has to be very carefully handled to make a good book. Bosses becoming involved with their young chicky secretaries who speak to them as if they're already a couple when they've just started on the job? Nah. Speaking to her boss as if she pulls all the strings? This young 20 something little chicky. Nah.

    5 Stars!

Kaylee Ryan has always been a favorite of mine to read. I absolutely adore the way she writes and the characters she brings to life. Y'all, this book was different... the first in the brand spanking new steamy, fun, swoony Riggins Brothers series was EVERYTHING in the very best ways and I couldn't get enough or read fast enough, the entire journey.

Her best book she's written to date and my favorite by her to date, Layer by Layer is an office romance that was unforgettable in every single moment and unputdownable, cover to cover. I devoured every word on every page and dang, I wanted to do it all over again by the time I finished.

Royce and Sawyer, whew boy these two. All the blistering heat. All the underlying tension. All those boiling points they faced. All that undeniable chemistry. It was explosive and so addicting. I craved that push and pull they had and ate up all that fun back and forth banter. Plus those secondary ones? I can't wait to meet them more and dive so much deeper.

I loved this book. I loved both main characters. I loved their romance. Their journey was fun, steamy, sweet, angsty, fresh, slightly complicated, a wee bit frustrating at times but oh so good and yummy and so very worth it.

Run don't walk to grab this beautiful romance. Totally a top read for me this year because of my new favorite broody book boyfriend Royce. 😍

Oh and grab the free prequel, Play by Play. It's a nice intro to this series and helps further the reading experience that. much. more.

    I highly recommend this book.

This was a really cute, sweet romantic book.

However it didn’t really have much angst to it! They met, hit it off, had an obstacle, got over it, things were going great, another small obstacle, then happy ever after.

I’ve just read some heartbreaking, gut wrenching, antsy books, so this was a lovely change with a sweet family feel.

However I kept getting sidetracked and reading other books while reading this, which shows that it didn’t capture my attention enough or else I wouldn’t have been able to put it down.

Kaylee Ryan is the queen of feel-good, swoon worthy romance. Her stories always leave my heart full because she crafts these love stories that are endearing, sweet, and uncomplicated but also oh so sexy. Her books are always so charming and they always leaves me satisfied and reminds me how good romance can feel. And Layer by Layer is one of her best. I adored this story. I was smiling throughout, and had all the swoony, feel good goodness I have come to expect from a Kaylee Ryan story.

Royce and Sawyer's story was nothing short of beautiful. Royce opening himself to love was such a joy to read. I felt their connection chemistry and I was really invested in their relationship. Chocked full of love, passion, and sweetness, this story will no doubt have you swooning from the start.

This was the perfect start to a new series by one of my favorite authors and I’m so excited to get to know the rest of the Riggins brothers and see where life takes each of the couples. This is a must-read, swoony and sweet story.

Layer by Layer was such a great read. Royce Riggins was a sexy, broody and swoony alpha male. Sawyer Gibson was sassy and sweet! The chemistry between these two was amazing and pretty sizzling! I also really loved they way all the other Riggins Brothers treated Sawyer like a sister from the beginning! This might be my new favorite family! Can't wait for the next book!!

  • Cindy

    So sweet💕

Just a little predictable but I chalk that up to being low angst. I love this particular trope. There were sexy times and a little on the tame side but there needs to be books like this for everyone. All in all it was a very good read!

This book has so much going for it, I'm not even sure where to start! Strangers on a plane? Forbidden romance? Let's just say it was a fabulous story, and go from there! This is the beginning of a brand new series, by an author that has proven time and again, love conquers all!

Royce is the serious (and seriously HOT!) CEO of his family's business. The only things he makes time for in his busy life is his family. But a chance meeting with a stranger on a plane, begins to thaw his iced over heart!

Sawyer is on her way to a new beginning, a new life. Boy, was she in for a surprise when her sweet stranger from the plane, turns out to be her new boss, and he acts nothing like what she remembers! She has to decide who the real Royce is, and what that means for her new beginning!

Royce and Sawyer's story starts with a chance meeting, and progresses with them both discovering who they are and what they want from life. They both learn a lot about themselves in the process, which is rewarding to read. I enjoyed "meeting" Royce and his family, and am looking forward to the other brothers' stories! This is definitely a wonderful start to this series!

Layer by Layer by Kaylee Ryan introduces us to The Riggins Brothers who we originally met in the Play by Play novella. This is Royce’s story and it’s an office romance. He is a CEO and is serious and all business. Being hurt by love before, he has no interest in falling again. Then he meets Sawyer on a flight and is drawn to her. Then they discover they will be working together. That makes her off limits, right?

Royce is a bit broody but is caring and loyal to those who matter to him. Can he learn to let someone in again? Sawyer is looking forward to new beginnings. When they discover they will be working together, they try and keep it professional, but their attraction is undeniable. I loved their journey. It was emotional and sweet and I was captivated from start to finish.

What an entertaining beginning to a new series, full of heart and funny moments. Layer by Layer was everything you've come to expect from a
Kaylee Ryan book. A new set of characters that you can't help but let into your heart.

I loved Sawyer's sassiness, Royce's broodiness and the rest of the brothers' banter was simply epic and I can't wait for their stories.

Royce has been burnt before and as the older brother in the Riggins family and CEO of their company, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and an iced over heart. But all that changes when a freaked out woman sits next to him on the flight back home. Sawyer is afraid of heights and plane rides, but a new job and a new life has her jumping on the first flight out of Seattle. There's an instant connection and they part ways with plans for Sawyer to call him.

Imagine Royce's surprise 3 days later when he arrives at his office only to find out that Sawyer is his new assistant. Cue the passive aggressive dialogue, ample denial, sparks flying, meddlesome friends and family and you have a funny and sweet story, full of swoon worthy moments, even better scorching hot sexy times and a main hero that starts off as a broody a**hole and turns into this sweet, romantic and oftentimes cheesy guy.

Can't wait fro Owen's story and the rest of the brothers'. This is going to be an amazing series!!!

Layer by Layer is the first full-length novel in The Riggins Brothers series by Kaylee Ryan. There is a short story called "Play by play" that's kind of a prequel and it's free so don't hesitate to one-click it! It's about Royce's best friend, Jase, and Samantha, Royce's friend and secretary. You will be seeing them a lot in this book and their story is very cute. It sets up some of the things that will happen in this book which was cool.

The blurb describes very well what is going to happen in the book so you can get the idea of what is happening just by reading it. Layer by layer is what I have started to think of as a typical Kaylee Ryan romance and I mean it in the most positive way. The book was sweet, the secondary characters were very engaging and entertaining, there wasn't drama just for the shake of adding drama and I finished the book believing that the couple belonged together.

I couldn't help but love all the Riggins' brothers. When Owen started telling a story (you will get what I mean when you read the book) I fell for him hard and I cannot wait to get my hands on his book. Each brother is unique and just as lovable as the rest.

There was just one little thing that bothered me and it was Royce's behavior from the time he found out that Sawyer was going to be working for him until they got together. He was a little douche-y and Sawyer kept worrying whether or not she was going to lose her job which was not nice to read about. He still managed to have some good moments in that period which is why this is a 4.5 star review instead of a 2.5. Once they got together he was very charming and loving and I enjoyed finding out his layers.

Sawyer is a very good heroine and I really liked her. She was my second- favorite character in the book (Jase still holds the #1 spot) and I liked how she started finding her footing and became more confident as the story went on. Overall, I had a blast reading the book and I would recommend it!

  • Athena

This one started off good, but then it got boring and repetitive. Round and round we went with every brother telling her she is so good for Royce. Then the, I can’t be without you every second of the day. I felt like that went back and forth chapter after chapter. I felt like the angst with the ex was out of nowhere and it felt forced in order to add that breakup to get back element. This one was just okay for me. The brothers were funny and they all seem to have a great relationship with each other. But the relationship between Sawyer and Royce just didn’t hit it out of the park for me.

  • A.BookNerd.Bookseller&Bibliophile.Blog

This book starts the series of the Riggins brothers, starting with the oldest brother, Royce. Royce meets Sawyer and so begins their story! I love the Riggins family, all five brothers and their parents. I enjoyed how this book introduced all the brothers and their personalities! We know Royce is the broody brother. He was burned in the past by a woman. He thinks his future will consist of one night stands and nothing more. And Sawyer is starting over in a new city. She isn’t going to take any crap from anyone, even her boss Royce Riggins! She knows there is something there between them but he fights it for a bit. Until he just can’t anymore. Then they both have to deal with a person from Royce’s past. This was mostly a heartwarming book with not a whole lot of conflict but some did arise towards the end. It was a great quick read to get lost in for a day!

OH MY STARS! This book is just everything and the title is beyond apt for this story! I fell in love with Royce because of all the little things. His care and consideration. His thoughtfulness. GAH! He is just absolutely major swoon level! Who knew a chance meeting on a plane could turn into being your new boss and fighting that attraction to each other? Their wit and banter through this story is absolutely perfect. What I really adored is watching Royce open up after being burned so so bad. How he evolved in this book from being jaded to falling in love. I adore Sawyer and her sass. Especially when it comes to handling the five brothers. She is one of those girls that you want to be your best friend because she is just that amazing.
With this story, you get some ups and downs with some unique moments but this is very much a feel good story and I lived for the banter between the brothers. They added that much depth to the story and kept things light! I cannot wait to see what more is to come with this series because they are beyond worth the read!

This was better than the first novella but still way too sickly and cheesy for me. The instalove was ridiculous and although I enjoyed the family aspect, I can see that this author loves to write really over the top lovey dovey romance that is so cheesy I struggled to read it at times. So although I really liked the individual brothers and would like to get to know more about them, I don't think I will be continuing this series.

What a sweet romance. It all starts out when our heroine meets a cocky but charming man on a plane while freaking out because she hates to fly only to find out that he is her new boss only days later after sparks fly. Yes, Layer by Layer is nothing short of a predictable ending/romance but exactly what I was looking to read.... your girl is a sucker for a sweet charming predictable romance. This book made me smile. Especially during all the family chapters because just like the novel says and I find this statement to be incredibly true is that "blood does not make a family". The relationships were heartwarming in all the right places. I really enjoyed this short but sweet fast read regardless of it being predictable. The main character Royce loved Sawyer beyond belief and I enjoyed seeing their story unfold. Can't wait to dive into the other brothers and their love stories now that I grew to love them too.

From the first meeting Sawyer and Royce got my attention. While she was intriguing in the beginning, he continued to surprise me throughout. Can't believe that ex-wife but the whole Riggins crew is something to look forward to.
