Snitch is a fascinating story that offers a unique lens to view the #MeToo movement, inhabiting the mind of a female lawyer specializing in cases of sexual misconduct, by acclaimed feminist poet Olivia Gatwood.

Gianna Costa is an infamous attorney who has made a name for herself defending high profile celebrities from sexual assault allegations. But what occurs in the private life of a woman who is known by some as a traitor to her own gender, and others as a fast-pass to absolution? When a man from Gianna's past walks into her office looking for support, she is forced to reconcile with a memory she thought she'd left behind.

Electric and captivating, Snitch is a story of ambition, connection, and gender dynamics in our cultural moment.

Snitch Reviews

  • Tonya

Very well written but I really wanted to read more! This is why short stories drive me nuts.

  • Barbara Williford

Pros: the story was well written and intriguing. Audible well narrated.

Cons: it was like a sample story without the option to purchase the rest of the book. Aloof female attorney meets up with old classmate being charged with rape...she was witness to rape so declined to defend....she gets a dog...dog bites girl...the end. That’s it in a nutshell. Save yourself time and money.

Wow this was such an interesting angle to tell thjs story from. Some of the details in this are so unique and precise, however there are a few that also stick out as nearly cliche. Additionally, despite having such a complex protagonist, there were some interactions with other characters that felt a tiny bit comical and inauthentic. Really, a fantastic short story though. I loved how the ending balanced ambiguity.

  • Hali Davidson

I agree with the other reviews that this felt unfinished. Short stories can have that vibe and it work, but it doesn't work here. There's too much left for the reader to wonder about for it to have been an enjoyable kind of mystifying. Also the protagonist is definitely the muse for Cake's, "Short Skirt/ Long Jacket."

  • Tova

Definitely wanted a little more, but it was a nuanced and unfortunately realistic story that brought me in from the first sentence. Will be reading more from Olivia Gatwood in the future.

  • Veronica Foley

This was interesting. I'm not sure I would recommend it. I think the ending needed to be drastically different for a higher rating.

  • Stephanie Bortmas

This short story started off great but ended abruptly leaving me wondering why it ended and if there was another part I missed. I wanted to hear and learn more but it just stopped. I was totally engaged and wanted resolution

  • Amy

This is the story of a high-powered lawyer who has made her name defending powerful men accused of sexual harrassment/sexual assault. When faced with a new client — a washed-up actor she went to high school with years ago — she has to face uncomfortable memories and aspects of herself.

The ending was odd. I'm sure it was written and designed to send a message, but whatever that message was, it didn't seem to gel with the character or her choices.

The writing itself is strong and powerful, with each sentence crafted with care. The characters are well-developed and their struggles feel authentic and relatable. However, I found myself struggling to fully connect with the story and the characters. One issue I had with the book was the pacing. While there were moments of tension and emotional depth, there were also long stretches where not much seemed to be happening. This made it difficult for me to fully engage with the story and left me feeling a bit bored at times. Another issue I had was the lack of resolution. While I appreciate that not all stories need a neat and tidy ending, I found myself feeling unsatisfied with the way things wrapped up. It felt as though there were loose ends that were never fully tied up, which left me feeling a bit frustrated.

The narrator for the story was very engaging. Overall the character is extremely apathetic and has very few redeeming qualities. She simply does not care what happens to other people.

I would’ve liked the story more had there been a solid ending: that the character decided to tell the truth, that she realized she should’ve stood up for someone who was in a predicament beyond their control, or that the dog biting the little girl at the end would stir up some sort of compassion in her.

But nope! She is just a coldhearted bitch.

This was an amazing listen. I’ve often wondered about this POV.. it’s an epic movement that is happening everywhere. How do you reconcile something like that? What are you supposed to do? The author told this beautifully, considering it’s a hard subject. It does have trigger moments that can be hard for some, but other then that, it’s a well written book.

  • Ursula Johnson

This was supposed to be the story of a heartless lawyer who has a therapist. It’s a long rambling story about her history, a case she turns down and a dog she got that bit a child. Pointless. Narrated by the author, it’s monotonous, dull and boring. Don’t waste time on it.

  • Michelle Boyea

There aren’t many positive things to say about this book beyond that it was short.

I did not like the narrator, I did not like the storyline, it did not hold my attention, and it felt like it was an excerpt from a story rather than the full story.

  • Julie

This is the story of a female attorney and a case that she is asked to take and her backstory.

  • Cecilia Gigliotti

An eerie diagnosis of our era and what it means to be involved.

  • Sam Bronstein

Gatwood once again takes her powerful skills of words and creates a world of a story highlighting many issues in society while creating a character you can't help but connect to. A must-read.

  • Adrianna

Talk about a character to hate...

  • Cole Rodriguez

Olivia Gatwood is one of my favorite authors. Short, intense, detailed, and really well read. I wish there was more of a resolution, but it leaves it up to the reader to speculate.

  • Julia

This needs to be a full novel STAT.

  • Katie Chun

    This one is too short!

  • Meg GlitteryOtters

    2.5 stars

  • Art

A story of conscience. I enjoyed it.

  • tblr

Really good story, characters, and pace. Should be a full book!

  • Lau

Quick and very interesting. Certainly what I needed in my profession: the advice and the expectations for female lawyers. It was insightful and I would love to read/hear more of this. Overall, this was great if not for the cliffhanger of an ending. I feel like there should be more.

The story started at a good pace. I loved the setup, the delivery, then BOOM! It just ended. Nothing more and nothing less. Why would anyone tell the complete story of their life from the present to the past, then leave it as is? What happened to her classmate? What happened with the little girl that her dog bit? So many unanswered questions.
