This book was received as an ARC from DK - Alpha in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have read so many self-help books and they all focus on Mindfulness and its importance but Lani Muelrath took an informative approach to this book basically Mindfulness 101. It's important to develop a regular practice in Mindfulness so you can live your best life, discover the person who you really are, accept who you really are and be the person you want to be. This book also focuses on the positive results of being more mindful and the positive impact you have on your life and for those you love and care about.
We will consider adding this title to our Self-Help collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars. -
MINDFULNESS mentions on the cover of the book “Unwind, de-stress, and focus your mind for a healthier, happier you.” One certainly will achieve that after reading this most informative work. The authors bring their best of both worlds expertise, as they navigate the subject. Muelrath is an award-winning health educator, TV host and speaker, while Burk is an ordained Zen monk who has been practicing for a quarter of a century.
Mindfulness is a most interesting concept, that may mean different things to different people. For the purposes of the book it looks at one’s life, a sort of introspective analysis of who you are and how you became who you are. The authors discuss many aspects of mindfulness, going into depth to make the reader most aware of what this concept means to their lives.
They look at it historically, and mention that Buddhists 2,500 years ago identified it as a distinct mental process. They further postulated that their way of approaching the subject was to reduce stress and increase happiness within yourself and all those around you.
The authors take note of additional components of mindfulness. They include: Awareness of your present-moment experience and a receptive attitude. They go even deeper into the subject with the twelve principles. Among these are “You and all other beings just want to be happy, the first step of learning something new is admitting you don’t know about it, and you are unlikely to see something clearly if you reject it.”
The chapters do tell the true story, with notations of changing your mind not your life, nonjudgment and acceptance, getting things done with less stress, and mindful in relationships. The book is patterned in such a way that one path of progress leads to another, and when you get the whole picture of mindfulness and fulfillment in life, it will be like unlocking the key to the puzzle.
Be quite mindful of this book. It will definitely help you with many of your ambitions and goals. -
Thank you to NetGalley and DK for providing me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
This book contains A LOT of good information. It is easily the most thorough book on mindfulness that I have read and I’ve read quite a few. I learned a lot of new terms and had a few a-ha moments; however, I really felt like this book read like a textbook in that it was rather boring and not as inspirational as may other texts on mindfulness try to be and that the author would over-explain many points making it an unnecessarily long read.
That criticism being made, I do think it’s a good book for the right audience! If you’ve been practicing for a little while and want to take your practice to the next level, check it out! However, if you’re brand new to mindfulness and looking for an inspiring introduction there are other books out there full of great information that are shorter easier reads. -
Let me say that I love that the book first starts by telling readers what mindfulness is. This is great because so many people might have their own definitions. I love to learn, so....learning the Buddhist roots was so fun! I am not a history lover but I did enjoy learning this!
We move from learning some history to learning the vast amounts of benefits of mindfulness, then into how it actually works! I truly love how in-depth and educational this book is, giving the reader a better understanding of how our minds work and why we are not naturally mindful.
This book is one that anyone that is looking to do some self-improvement should look into. These 12 principles of Mindfulness are something I think we should all learn to live by. What a wonderful book! I will be sharing this with all of my friends and likely buying a hard copy for my personal collection. -
Excellent approach to meditation.
Found this book intersting and helpful in the current situation we are living.
We can lower our stress level and feel in tune with one's self.
It has technics for handling anxiety and panic attacks.
Definitely recommend it.
Note: I received an ARC for review purposes and an honest and unbiased opinion. -
This book outlines principles of mindfulness. It is a very slow read and a little bit jargony.
