A new story from the author of Sensation Machines . Philip and his girlfriend Beth were seniors in high school when they chose adoption for their son. Now, years later, Beth has moved to Palo Alto - and on with her life - but Philip still lives in town. He works a job he hates so he can be near Olaf, who knows him as “uncle”. On the morning of Olaf's 14th birthday party, Philip hears his neighbor Zali's dog, Sinai, barking on the other side of the fence. Philip scales the fence and finds the dog tied to a tree with a belt, hungry and scared. Not knowing what else to do - and not wanting to miss his son's party - Philip stages Sinai's escape and drops him off at a local shelter. At the party, a gift that Philip gives Olaf exacerbates tensions between him and the boy's parents, leaving Philip feeling unmoored. And when Zali abruptly returns from his mysterious absence to find Sinai missing, Philip must try to retrieve the dog before it's too late. From Adam Wilson, author of the acclaimed novel Sensation Machines , Zali's Dog is a darkly funny and oddly affecting story about the lengths we'll go to protect our hearts.

Zali’s Dog Reviews

  • Jo - •.★Reading Is My Bliss★.•

Short audio story about a man who seems to be a bit stuck in a rut. He became a father when he was young and at the time they decided to give their son up for adoption. He is now 14 years old and his father is only known to him as an Uncle.

Zali is his neighbour and after finding his dog looking neglected he decides to take it from their yard and to a shelter.

This story is only a 30 minutes snapshot into Philip's life but an interesting example of what how we all have different things going on in our lives on any given day :)

  • Julie

A fun story and it has a dog.

  • Adriane

    Not great but ok.

  • Nancie Lafferty

A too short story with promising characters. More like a Chapter One.

  • JT

Not for me. It did not feel like a complete story. It felt like being on the phone with a monotone relative.

  • Michelle Nash

Such an abrupt ending that was a non-ending.

  • sliceofmini

    Nothing happened
    Something happened
Something else happened I guess ?
    The end

  • Mahoghani 23

Didn’t catch the significance of this story. The focus started out on the dog but veered everywhere else. Short uninteresting read.

  • Nicole Sanborn

This is fine, but there's no real ending. It feels like a small snippet of a larger work. It started out strong, but left me disappointed and wanting more.

  • Robert

This was a short story and a weird read but it was pretty good for the most part it abruptly ended while I was just getting into it

  • Kate Wood

I don’t get the point of this story.

  • Anne Danieletto

This was a funny short story but I feel bad for Phil that didn’t have the chance to have a proper father and son relationship
