It was just a harmless, little lie...

Widow Bailey Bryson writes scholarly articles under the masculine-sounding name of Dr. Perseus Stone. When handsome reporter Collin Winchester comes to Last Chance, Nebraska seeking an interview with the good doctor, a whirlwind of lies and confusion tears through the town. No one knows what to believe, especially since the truth is mingling so well with the fiction.

And Bailey is caught in the middle. She knows the truth will set her free, but then she learns Collin has come to Last Chance to smear Dr. Stone’s reputation. A man who does not exist, yet one the town is now bent on protecting.

How can she and Collin get at the truth—especially when their hearts are hiding secrets, too?

A Groom for Bailey (The Blizzard Brides, #16) Reviews

Christian Western romance author Heather Blanton presents a story where a harmless lie takes on a life of its own and untangling the lie has repercussions.

In A Groom for Bailey, Bailey Bryson uses the pen name of Dr. Perseus Stone. Her articles wouldn’t get published under her name, even though she is qualified to write them. Bailey was one of the first female students at her college in Boston.

Reporter Collin Winchester comes to Last Chance to interview Dr. Stone to uncover his background. Bailey tries to tell the truth, but no one believes her, especially when the town tries to protect Dr. Stone, a man they have never seen but only by other’s comments. Meanwhile, Bailey’s mail order groom arrives at the same time as Collin, complicating matters.

A gifted storyteller, Blanton writes stories about strong women who face challenging situations, both in life and love. Her stories include strong faith elements, adventure, clean romance, good character development, descriptive narratives, and an original twist to the mail order storyline.

Recommended for adult collections in public libraries, as well as Western fans, and fans of mail order romances.

Disclaimer: Book reviews are my honest opinion of books I either purchased or received free of cost from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I am not required to write reviews, nor to even post positive reviews.

A Groom for Bailey, by Heather Blanton, is an engaging Western romance. Having read several of this author's books, although none of the other books in The Blizzard Bride series, I kind of knew what to expect and was not disappointed. Blanton does a nice job of keeping the reader's interest with delightful characters and a plot that moves quickly and realistically. She touches on themes of prejudice against women, and second chances as she portrays the story of Bailey, a well-educated young widow who has a secret, and needs a husband if she is to stay in Last Chance, Nebraska. The historical aspects in the story (with a cameo appearance of an amazing historical figure even!) add to the interest and show the author has done her homework in getting the time and setting right. The book is an easy read (I pretty much read it in a day or two--couldn't put it down!) and all in all, is a good read. Although it is part of a series, it is easily read as a stand-alone book and readers can look forward to checking out the books that come before. I received a complimentary copy of the ebook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

    Last Chance, Nebraska

Step into Last Chance, Nebraska, where heartache and loss leave many widows due to a terrible blizzard. Bailey was one such widow, having lost her husband. She had been writing articles under a pen name and now, she was about to be found out!

Colin Winchester, a reporter, who was anything other than admirable, had come to find the famous author and get an interview. Now if he could just find the man and get the interview so he could make his money and go!

What he found beside his article was so much more! I love Heather Blanton and it is hard to get enough of her stories! Sit back and enjoy!

Wonderful characters! This story pulled me in from the beginning and had me on my seat until the end. I love all the historical characters that were mentioned. The history of what women endured because of the prejudice of men was infuriating and I loved how Heather pulled so much into this story. A sweet romance with history of how women forged a way for woman today. This story was absolutely fantastic and engaging from page one until the very last page.
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

    💞 Bailey and Collin 💞

Loved this story! Bailey was on of a handful of the first female students at Boston University. Her first day there, she literally bumped into Collin Winchester. He was a rogue, for sure but his eyes captured her. She never saw him again after that first day. Eleven years later, she’s a widow in Last Chance, Nebraska.

Collin has definitely not lived a good life. He’s pretty much sunk into the gutter. He has one Chance left to salvage his career as a reporter. Little does he know how the story will end....

    Once the gossip starts...

One slip to the wrong person and Bailey finds she has lost all control, the town think they are helping but they are just adding to the confusion. And Bailey is more confused than most, she knows what is expected of her but is overwhelmed by dread, hurt, anger, grief and frustration. Why can't they believe her? Why did Jason have to be taken from her? And why was she allowed to get a degree and a masters if she was never going to be allowed to use it?
A sweet romance full of self discovery and hope which I read on Kindle Unlimited.

    A Lie?

Heather Blanton shares the story of a writer as only a writer could. This is an emotional overcoming tale of tragedy, misunderstanding, second chances, and redemption. Bailey allows God to lead her to the best outcome for her life. You won’t regret reading this sweet love story.

    Loved it

I enjoyed the approach of this novel on the subject of women, their rights, their strength, and influence in the 1800's. Heather Blanton is an excellent author. The storyline ties every bit together from beginning to end with a great cast of small town characters. I wish I could live in Last Chance with the citizens of this Fictional small town becoming old friends.

    Great story.

This story did bring up just how women were viewed back in these times. They weren't considered academically intellectual and just a helpmate for a man. I enjoyed seeing this story bring up the beginnings of change and just how this Last Chance bride rose above that.

  • Cissie Breland

    Just wow!

I loved Bailey’s story. Even though she lost her husband in a horrific tragedy, she was willing to follow God’s plans for her life. Figuring out His plans can be tough, especially for a young widow in a time when women had few rights.
