Oh, better and better! Sasara, disguised as Tatara, redisguised as Sasara (lol) strikes out on her own in classic martyrdom fashion so as not to endanger her surviving loved ones. Ageha is apparently famous as a dancing girl - I do love a man who knows how to make himself pretty. I was surprised to learn he was a slave, since he was called 'The Blue Noble', but that just adds so much more depth and mystery to his character - he's fast becoming my favorite! I don't know what to make of Shuri, when he's acting as the Red King, he seems like a ruthless tyrant, but whenever he meets with Sasara, maybe its just because they're both usually naked, but he seems like a decent guy, even if he's a little spoiled. The same with Shido, he's ruthless as a military man (and he whipped Ageha - unforgivable!) but with is new wife, he is kind and gentle. This is something I love about this manga, the characters are so multifaceted. The tunnel to Kyushu was an exciting journey, but I wonder what will happen now that Suzuka has sunk into the sea - where could the sword have gone? So excited to find out what Sasara's next move will be, she is one amazingly strong woman!

I read this in Swedish, but that edition doesn't exist on Goodreads yet and I haven't the time to fix it right now.
I really like this story. It's obvious that the Basara story is written towards a much younger audience but it works for adults as well. I really do not like the Swedish summary of book #1 in the beginning. It's extremely gender stereotypical even though the story in itself isn't. I don't like Sarasa/Tatara getting sexual abused either or the fact that the abusing makes her curious and attracted to the abuser either.
Basara is originally written in 1991 which might excuse those not so nice parts. The Swedish edition wasn't published until 2006 though and I really think that the translator and publisher could have chosen different words in the summary to make it less stereotypical.
All in all I definitely think it's readable and I will encourage my manga reading 12 years old to read it. -

My Thoughts:
In this volume, Sarasa travels by land and sea to seek freedom for her village and revenge for her murdered family. Captured in battle after witnessing the terrifying spectacle of a massacred village, Sarasa learns that violence, intrigue, and even romance rule this postapocalyptic fantasy world.
My Thoughts:
Sarasa is on her own when this volume starts out. After failing to kill the Red King in the last volume, she decides that she must continue on alone because she doesn't want to lose anymore people that are important to her. Nagi does recommend that she go to Suzaku Village in Kyushu next so that she can gather the first of her allies around her. Tatara wields the Byakko sword, but apparently, there are three others out there and one of them is the Suzaku sword.
On her way to Kyushu, Sarasa meets Ageha again and discovers that people aren't being allowed to go to Kyushu by boat because the search for Tatara is on. Here, we meet Shido, Shuri's cousin and loyal confidant/general. We also discover that Shido has a fiancee that he loves and she loves him just as much. Senju seems really worried about Shido fighting Tatara. She's a sweet girl and outside of his ruthless side while working for Shuri, Shido probably isn't a bad guy. It's just hard to root for someone that's out to kill the main character when I like Sarasa so much. We do find out why Shido is willing to die for Shuri, though. We get a glimpse into what Shuri's childhood was like and it's no wonder he doesn't care for his father and brothers. Shuri does become more intrigued by Sarasa when they unexpectedly meet again at yet another hot spring. It seems they're destined to meet like this. He really seems to want her by his side and even gives her a bird to use so that they can send letters back and forth. They're adorable together, but I'm still worried about what might happen between them when they discover they're enemies.
Sarasa does find her first ally, though. Hayato is the great-grandson of the previous wielder of the Suzaku sword who was betrayed by one of his fellow villagers. Originally, he doesn't want to follow Tatara, but changes his mind after being double-crossed by Shido who asked him to pretend to be Tatara so that rebels could be ferreted out. Sarasa was right to smell a trap in that so-called meeting. After losing his mother, Hayato and Sarasa set off towards Sakurajima to see if they can find the Suzaku sword, but find a big surprise when they get there...
What will happen next? How are they supposed to find the sword in that place? Will Shido show up? What about Ageha? He's in trouble for aiding Tatara, but he isn't talking. I was surprised to learn about his history and ties to Shido as well. There are some messy connections here, but I didn't get the feeling that Ageha harbors any love for Shido. I hope they all continue to survive, at least for now. -

Перед входом в город она встречает нашего старого знакомого – Агеху, переодетого в знаменитую танцовщицу.
Перед нами наконец-то приспускают занавесу тайну касательно его личности. Но все равно Агеха остается темной лошадкой. Он достаточно умный, умелый, можно даже сказать влиятельный, но вместе с тем очень несообразительный. Похоже, он так и не понял, что Сараса – действительно Сараса, а не прикидывающийся девушкой Татара. Не заботясь о предосторожности, он называет ее Татарой, что в итоге приводит к печальному исходу. Получается такое вот противоречие его личности: он вроде как и мастер конспирации, спасает Сарасу из сложных ситуаций (что тоже требует хитрости), а в следующий момент он просто отключает мозг и совершает промахи.
Приключения Сарасы в туннеле вообще отдельная история. Она карабкается по камням и падает с выступов, но ее конь Ято каким-то образом проходит с ней весь путь и умудряется не покалечиться. Седзе, что тут сказать. Но эта часть ее путешествия действительно жуткая. Даже меня пробрало до дрожи, чего обычно не случается. Кстати, из этой главы появляются вопросы об обучении Сарасы. Я могу понять ее осведомленность о травах и общую эрудированность – она проводила много времени с предсказателем, который сам говорил, что он ей как мать; но где она научилась сражаться на мечах? Сомневаюсь, что у них в деревне учили такому, к тому же девочек. А ведь у нее получается даже блокировать атаки стражников (это ж силу в руках иметь нужно и меч нормально держать).
В этом томе вводят новых персонажей, один – двоюродный брат Красного короля, кратенько поведает нам историю Сюри, Красного короля, второй – новый спутник путешествия Сарасы. Из рассказов о прошлом Сюри некоторые могут изменить свое отношение к нему – но нет большего или меньшего зла (привет фанатам ведьмака). Цели у него благородные, только вот методы их достижения жестоки и кровавы. Да и сам Сюри отнюдь не булочка с корицей внутри, и даже мангака в начале тома пишет, что не нужно считать его хорошим человеком.
А еще нас опять ждет встреча Сарасы и Сюри, угадайте где? Конечно же на горячих источниках! Чую в следующий раз они опять умудрятся встретиться при таких же обстоятельствах.
В целом могу сказать, что интерес к сюжету у меня заметно возрос. Сараса все же действует по большей части обдуманно (по крайней мере, пока что), мангака применила троп развития сильного женского персонажа еще до того, как это стало мейнстримом. -
I just really liked when Sarasa was in the tunnel and she calmed down enough to remember something Nagi taught her when she was a child, showing how she's starting to better handle herself under pressure. In later chapter, Sarasa mentions that she hasn't yet done anything while she's been on her own, but the reader can see the things she's learning during her journey to Suzaka village.
Also, I loved the scene between Sarasa and the old man in the tunnel.
Sarasa telling Shuri she's not a trophy is A+.
I enjoyed the bit of backstory we got about Shuri in this one.
Suffice to say that this was a good volume and I can't wait to read more. -
Un deuxième tome très intéressant. Le personnage de Sarasa commence son évolution et apprend les sacrifices qu'elle doit faire en tant qu'élue. On découvre à travers son voyage les inégalités qui règnent dans ce Japon. J'ai bien aimé en apprendre plus sur le passé de Shuri. Je me demande comment va continuer l'histoire.

Das ist besser als Band 1 und ich möchte die Serie weiterlesen.
Sarasa muss sich als ihren Zwillingsbruder verkleiden und ein Schwert aus der Insel Sakurajima abholen. Sie trifft einen Jungen, der sich als Tatara vorstellt, und sie trifft Shiro wieder. Der Rote König hat eine traurige Geschichte hinter sich.
Die Szene im Tunnel war so guuuut! -
Ceritanya sebenarnya menarik Sarasa yang meyamar menjadi Tatara sedang dalam perjalanan yang menegangkan ke sebuah kota tempat pedang Suzaku berada.
Ini soal balas dendam dan misi revolusi menggulingkan kerajaan yang menghancurkan kehidupan rakyatnya.
Sayang banget gambarnya saya tidak suka. Ceritanya Bagus padahal tapi terkadang ada percakapan yang alay. Druh ga tau vol berikutnya gmn -
Ugh I’m so sorry but the art is atrocious and the panels so messy I have to backtrack at times. I can’t get used to it.
Plot is still intriguing, though. Even the romance hasn’t thrown me off yet, although it is insta-lovey and cliché. -
This is a really intriguing story, with Sarasa growing into her role as "The Chosen One", not really because of destiny, but because of her own strength. The love story between her and Shuri is intriguing.

There is so much gay subtext in this novel it's hilarious. However, I'm enjoying learning more about Shuri's character as the story progresses.

Nah inilah jadinya kalau seseorang seperti saya mementingkan cover diatas segalanya. Saya jadi nggak jeli dengan isi dari komik yang panjangnya ada 27 volume ini.
Setelah mencicipi volume 1, bisa dibayangkan betapa besarnya penyesalan sekarang karena baru aja tau kalo komik ini SANGAT BAGUS.
Sasara yang berubah dengan kesadaran sendiri menjadi Tatara, seorang perempuan berumur 16 tahun yang menguatkan diri dengan tujuan membalaskan dendam desanya yang hancur dan kakak serta ayahnya yang mati diakibatkan serangan dari Raja Merah. Sasara hanya bisa menjadi dirinya sendiri saat ia berada di Onsen yang kemudia benar benar tertarik dengan seorang pemuda humoris tapi juga kharismatik dan seenaknya sendiri bernama Shuri. Tipikal kan? Nggak ada yang aneh dari jalan cerita ini. kecuali kalau Shuri ini adalah sang Raja Merah.
Hebatnya lagi yang membuatku sangat sangat kagum, Yumi Tamura menguatkan ikatan mereka tanpa terburu-buru dan alur yang keren, bisa dibuktikan dengan terbongkarnya identitas Shuri sang Raja Merah di buku ke-5.
Tidak perlu ragu lagi, inilah lambang dari cover not worth anything. :D -
So, the story continues as Sarasa leaves home to seek the bearers of the other three swords. I enjoyed seeing how Sarasa handled the tunnel, because it showed that she was able to keep calm under pressure and use some smarts. I approve of that in a character.
For that matter, the villains also seem to be smart about dealing with a 'Boy of Destiny'. In the first volume, we had some traps, many of which Sarasa only partially escaped. Here, she manages to only escape with the help of Ageha, and the second half of the story is a bit of a Pyrrhic victory for her.
I also like the parallels between Sarasa and the Red King.
Now, to get a female character on Sarasa's side. (One strong woman is nice, but more would be nicer.) Currently, the only other living female characters are Sarasa's captured mother, and Senju, Shido's fiance. -
I'm much less hopeful about this manga's potential after reading the second volume and significantly less eager to read the next 25 volumes. I'm pretty sure I can see where the course is set and how everything will work out in the end, but I hope to be surprised. I'm a little irked that the Red King is being made out to be a misunderstood victim, as if his actions can be justified or forgiven. I like him ruthless, it's more interesting. Volume two revealed that there is going to be quite a bit of adventuring and artifact gathering in following volumes. In addition, we are introduced to a lot of new characters. I have my fingers crossed that plot and character development won't t be thrown out in order to lengthen the storyline beyond reason. On the positive, Sarasa continues to kick butt, she succeeds in her endeavors by sheer determination.

A great installment as Tatara/Sarasa learns more and decides her place in the rebellion. (well, that's a continual effort). The new characters are nice to have. Sarasa and Shuri are cute once again, making it the more happy yet tragic part of the entire story.

I cannot get enough of the way Tamura draws necks and chins, it's endearingly bizarre. This series feels very nostalgic to me even though it's my first time reading. Vol. 2 shows Sasara starting to grow in confidence - love it.

今回の後話は面白くなかった。。。っていうか分からなかった。半分は別の漫画の話と半分はうらない事ばっかり。
話は楽しかった。全然覚えないから朱里と更紗の関係はどうなるの！！！？楽しみ！もっと一緒にの話見たい～～
