A foreign crown bent on conquest. An escaped traitor out for vengeance. A realm caught in the middle. Sometimes it takes a queen to save a kingdom.Laurent has left to meet the Vassian Army at the border, leaving Riette in charge of Lochfeld Castle and indeed Meirdre itself. Waiting on war to come to the kingdom she loves is unthinkable, so she escapes to her home village for a visit, searching for one last bit of normalcy in a life that is no longer her own.But that normalcy is shattered when Thomas appears. Bitter over his imprisonment and bent on the revenge he’s always wanted, he’s intent on destroying Laurent and has no qualms about using Riette to do so. Worse, her power as a crownkeeper is no longer a secret, and King Damir of Vassian wants it for himself. From Lochfeld itself to a coastal town, defeat looms. For their adversary is well-prepared and powerful—a formidable enemy to her small kingdom. But the map on the floor of Lochfeld’s ballroom holds power of its own—and Riette will discover what it truly means to be a crownkeeper.

Queen's Crown (Crownkeeper Trilogy Book 3) Reviews

A great ending to a trilogy

I loved the storyline and intrigue as Riette discovers more of her powers. Laurent and Riette are wonderful characters but I really grew to love the king's mom. A few misspellings and minor errors but otherwise a great book.

It was simple, straightforward, and a quick read despite it being a trilogy.

Therefore I rate it 2.5 stars.

TW: violence (beheading, beating, stabbing, whipping, etc)

    ----------------------

Why it was okay and not SUPERB.

    - The villain(s) were underwhelming. No tragic story, no substance, and heck not even a villain speech whilst the heroine had to forcibly hear him out. And Thomas the henchman or whatever was just simply greedy, immature, and a fckin loser. His "rebel" label was interesting at first though....

    - The romance was .. slightly better than the whole plot? Low-key dunno what even is the plot. Rags to riches girl who can read colour coded maps with foresight of danger? Yeah, we'll stick with that. Even then, it was just a roller coaster of mistrust and their chemistry was just okay I guess. Low key didn't know what she saw in him and vice versa. I did have a couple of "aww" moments considering this is targeted to a christian audience and that intimacy moments are... limited.

    - The Crownkeeper role could've had SO MUCH potential. Are you telling me that she only got to use it for an earthquake, measles outbreak, not getting her MIL killed, etc??? It was a letdown to be honest. I put so much hope into the series that I even finished it in two days. Like the romance and plot, it was not fleshed out. A few of her powers only popped up at like 3/4 mark. Girl you think you were surprised? Me too :D.

    - I was led to believe that Thomas' rebellion cause (despite him betraying his country) would actually have a group that understood the assignment. But no, basically they just hated the King for burning haystacks, being cold, and the taxes (I forgot the rest). When in reality, he had a reason to do those. 1 particular reason was his mom's blackmail of a marriage proposal from this neighbouring King (and apparently King Laurent orchestrated that to protect her somehow). That did not make sense at all. Like did his mom love the dude so much for her to be fine with being a "hostage"?

I think I'm gonna bump down the rating now that I've carefully thought about the whole thing. It was a let-down (womp womp).

This is the 3rd novella in the Crownkeeper trilogy!! Start with the award-winning Treason’s Crown if you are new to this series.

Third and final books in a series can be tricky to pull off but Anne Wheeler provides a riveting and satisfying 💕 conclusion to Riette and Laurent’s story.

If you like some bad boys redeemed and some punished for their lack of loyalty (ahem!), this book is for you.

When Laurent heads off to war, Riette is left in charge of the castle. As they say, when the cat’s away, the mouse will play—that mouse being the dastardly traitor Thomas. Riette saved him once, but that doesn’t matter to such a selfish prick. This time, Riette will have to save herself—and Laurent—or kiss her happily ever after goodbye.

    After all…

Sometimes it takes a QUEEN to save a kingdom. 👸🏻

This final instalment is short and doesn't take long to read. Even though short, Wheeler packs plenty in it and we get to see a lot of good action and suspense which keeps you turning pages. Riette continues to be a strong character who I've really enjoyed meeting and she continues to discover new abilities as a result of her powers which both surprise her and we, the reader.

The story wraps up well and leaves the reader very satisfied.

Thoroughly enjoyed the ride to this conclusion! Read it in a few hours and, as usual with Anne Wheeler's books, had a hard time putting it down. I went through an array of strong emotions almost non-stop. I love the main characters for their realness and growth throughout the trilogy. Skillfully done. As always.

A good and satisfying finish to the series. The magical aspect was definitely surprising and added a unique twist. Laurent and Riette's relationship definitely is more developed throughout this book and I liked being able to see through his eyes in the beginning and end.
