RUGGERO VELA

All I’ve ever been, all I’ll ever be, is a hitman. An enforcer for the Lucchesi family. It’s what my father did before me. It’s what I’ll do until the day I die, just like my father did.

And it’s all I deserve.

I don’t deserve a wife and kids. I don’t deserve a family. Not when I destroyed my own.

And I especially don’t deserve her, the beautiful anti-Mafia judge who holds my boss’s fate in her hands. The judge who’d never look at me with anything but loathing.

Not even when I save her life.

LOREDANA MONTISI

Mafia thugs killed my father in front of me when I was a child. It’s why I followed in his footsteps. It’s why I swore to uphold the law, why I’m renowned for holding Mafiosos to account.

No matter the risks. No matter the consequences. Even if my job cost me the fiancé I’d planned to spend the rest of my life with.

And now I’ve got the chance to take down Enrico Lucchesi, a mobster who’s made himself nearly untouchable. A man who’s defied justice. A man who murdered a judge very much like my father.

Lucchesi will not escape justice this time. I will not be intimidated by Lucchesi’s enforcer, a man who stalks me like prey.

A man I don’t dare take my eyes off of.

A man who tells me I’m a pawn in a game so vast, I can hardly comprehend it.

A man I don’t believe.

Until I do.

Reckoning (Blood and Honor #4) Reviews

Loved Loved this series my only problem Cris had to die, I really enjoyed his playful character and cried when he died and Kate never had her baby I thought by the end of the story we would have shared the good news but no so I am really hoping that there is a 6th book. Would be great to see how the they are all getting on in the future and if I predict correctly I do know who Gio will end up with.

    Great Book

I love the Blood and Honor series. I can't wait to continue reading all the books Dana Delamar will write in this series. I love mafia romance, and Dana's research and knowledge of what she writes makes these stories seem so authentic. I'm glad Ruggero got his happily ever after, and I do thoroughly enjoy his character. His loyalty and dedication to guarding Don Luccesi is very admirable. He's a hard working man who loves and adores his wife, a real, genuine love. And I loved it. I can't wait to start Malavita.

This was an awesome wrap up & still left hints for possible future books. You will love this entire series.

Hallelujah!!! I got the ending I needed and bonus happiness with Ruggero’s story. With a title like Reckoning, I knew WHO I hoped was going to face their final reckoning. However, Delamar has proven time and time again, that no character within the Blood and Honor series is guaranteed a life and that its members can die at any time, much like the Mafioso as most of us understand it to be. So I didn’t rest easy until I read “The End” and knew for sure who survived.

While the main romantic focus of Reckoning is between one of Enrico’s men, Ruggero, and the judge trying Enrico’s case, the battle rages on within the ‘Ndrangheta and Ruggero’s romance plays out well within the conspiracies of that war. Yep! You read that right. My eyes actually bugged out of my head when I realized that Enrico Lucchesi was being arrested, and that only worsened once all the charges were revealed. When this occurred, I worried that Enrico was the only one who was going to face his reckoning day. I have no problem saying that I love Enrico’s character, so for me, the situation he found himself in was extremely distressing – especially what took place in the prison shower, as I found myself trying to read as fast as I could to find out how that scene was going to play out, yet trying not to because I was afraid of what the outcome would be. But that’s what makes this series so intense, the men at the top aren’t always untouchable – even if they’ve fooled themselves into believing it. As Ruggero points out, “hubris had gotten more men killed than caution ever had.” And more than one man learns that lesson in Reckoning – some more permanently than others.

As for the romance between Ruggero and Loredana, it was often beautiful in its painful moments, but always beautiful when they were able to forget who they were in each other’s worlds (the judge and the Mafia soldier) and could just be Ruggero and Loredana – a man and a woman. We do learn a lot more about Ruggero than in previous installments, and it actually made the romance more heartbreaking to me because not only were they on opposite sides of the law, but despite all his confidence in his place within the Lucchesi family, Ruggero felt he was undeserving of love. As for Loredana, her courage and conviction were awe inspiring, but it was her drive for true justice that really impressed me. I really enjoyed the connection and the resulting chemistry between them and it made for some rather hot scenes. But I really, really liked seeing how effectively Ruggero could use ice for good (steamy!) and not so good (absolutely diabolical). The final showdown – The Reckoning – was unreal and full of surprises I wasn’t expecting. I loved the ending that Delamar crafted, even if it appears to be the series end as well. While it does read as though Reckoning is the final book in the Blood and Honor series, I would not be disappointed to see additional installments written. Nope, not one bit. I have loved this series from the first novella, Malavita, to this one and I’m not ready to say goodbye.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

    Reckoning (Blood & Series #4)
    By: Dana Delamar
    5/5 stars

Ruggero Vela has been one of my absolute favorite side characters in this series since book one. He has such a dry, witty and sarcastic sense of humor. I love the insight that he’s been able to give to not only Don Lucchesi, but also Nick & Antonia and even the women. I love his loyalty to the Lucchesi family cosca and the families within it. I love his fearless protection of Enrico & Kate. Even though he knows that he will more than likely die in the line of duty, he never balks to do what is asked of him.

Judge Loredana Montisi is known to be an anti-mafia judge who is strict and deals out harsh punishments to those involved in the mafia. She has a very good reason to be incorruptible, unable to be bribed or paid off. Both of her parents were judges as well and had been attacked by mafia gunmen. Seeing Ruggero in her courtroom is more than a little disconcerting with his imposing presence, but she refuses to back down. Ruggero also likes that she is a strong woman who will not be bullied.

But there are dark and sinister forces that are driving the Enrico Lucchesi case from behind the scenes. At the end of book 3, we saw Lorenzo making the calls to get Lucchesi arrested. But now, we learn why he did what he did and made the calls that he made. It all boils down to nothing but greed, for more money and more power. He has already proved in previous books that he’s going to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals. So the judge’s life is in danger if she doesn’t fall for the frame of Enrico.

There were several heart-stopping moments and times when you just didn’t know how and if everything could work out, while having all of the favorite characters come out on top. I also loved how this book ended and would definitely be interested in reading another book (or two) from this series.

As per usual, the book was meticulously though-out, researched, planned & executed. Dana Delamar may have taken longer to release this book than she (and her fans) had expected, but she also didn’t stop until the book was flawless & perfect.

    Long awaited

Once again Dana Delamar delivers. I enjoyed this story as much as the previous and look forward to the next one. I gave 4 stars only due to the massive amount of flashbacks to the previous books for me it stole from some of the story at hand. Loving my Italian fairytales.
