When Jack’s car breaks down in the middle of a cross-country road trip, the mysterious house at the top of the hill is a beacon of hope. If he can borrow a phone to call for help, he’ll be on his way in no time. But someone - or something - has other plans. Soon, Jack finds himself trapped in a nightmare that defies logic, where a depraved killer on the loose is the least of his problems. Will Jack escape before it’s too late?
A house full of strangers.
An unsolvable mystery.
A night that won’t end.
Welcome to Bedside Manor.
Bedside Manor Reviews
-
Bedside Manor is a novella featuring Jack and Jerry from the darkly hilarious Tales from the Gas Station series.
We find Jack and Jerry on vacation away from the Gas Station, but it doesn't take long before an unknown and deeply evil presence drags them into yet another f***ed up adventure.
It was so much fun having a little side story with the dual while waiting for the forth Gas Station book. Bedside Manor is fast-paced, over-the-top, and hysterical. Loved every minute! -

Not your average Murder-Mystery
Of course, with Jack and Jerry a fun, relaxing roadtrip vacation wouldn't be complete without some murder, castles, zombies, and even.... vampires.
This little novella is just as fun, weird, gruesome and witty as the Tale From The Gas Station series. If you haven't read them yet, you are absolutely missing out. -
This was a cheesy but super-fun romp! We must all work together to solve this ghastly affair!
-
Some parts were witty and comical. It was spooky but then took on a science fiction feel. Which I have never loved.
Lots of F words. Quick listen with a good narrator. -
“Ah goodie; it seems the detective has arrived!”
I absolutely adore Jack and Jerry from Tales from the Gas Station so when I found out there was a novella I basically had to drop everything and read it. Once again, the story is over the top, darkly hilarious, and the friendship between Jack and Jerry never fails to warm my heart. If your a fan, you’ll love it, and if you haven’t read this series it’s time to pick it up! -
In Bedside Manor, Townsend delivers another oblique, surprising and utterly entertaining tale. The closed room detective genre is full of predictable and forgettable fare and it has been decades since anyone has done anything creative with these types of plots (I'm thinking of the terrible recent attempts with 'Glass Onion' and 'Knives Out'). Townsend turns it on its head and just when you are getting your bearings, he does it again, over and over. Bedside Manor is like a 'whodunnit' on a tilt a whirl. This needs to be made into a movie. Crazy, wild, funny and intriguing. We are left, even at the very end, wondering if the final resolution actually happened or if we are just grabbing at another thread of reality for another turn in the barrel. Read this, but read the 'Tales from the Gas Station' series first or you will have no idea what you are getting into.

Loved this! A perfect little “side quest” from the Tales From The Gas Station series. A creepy murder mystery that gets more and more weird in classic gas station style, with Jack and Jerry comically trying to figure it all out.
-
Fast paced and fun! I would love more jack and jerry adventure novellas!
-
Not as enjoyable as the rest of the series but still good. Left me feeling confused. I'll probably have to listen to it again.

A fun little novella in the world of Tales from the Gas Station that takes place some time after the events of Volume 3. Protagonist Jack and his buddy Jerry go on a roadtrip, but when their car breaks down they are forced to stop at a strange Bed and Breakfast hotel in the middle of nowhere.
Jack, who has (justifiably) developed a sizable amount of paranoia, is instantly suspicious, but there seems to be no other way than to stay overnight and naturally, the two friends instantly get drawn into another weird adventure. What starts out as a classic whodunnit (Gas Station style of course) soon turns into an insane romp that emulates elements from Groundhog Day, The Matrix and all kinds of Lovecraftian horror scenarios.
Despite all the crazyness, the condensed cast of characters and the somewhat standalone plot make this a slightly more focussed experience in comparison to the sometimes a bit too convoluted plot of Tales from the Gas Station: Volume 3. That doesn't change the fact that Bedside Manor is still full of utterly bonkers moments and even during such a relatively short tale, you keep questioning whether what is happening is just a result of Jack's frail grasp on reality or whether everything around him is actually that insane. -
Can't get enough of Jack and Jerry
I had this story from Mr.Creepypasta on YouTube and loved. I then decided to read the actual book so I could get the full story. I was not disappointed. I loved every moment of this book, especially any time Jerry was in the scene. I'm not sure if it's because of the way Mr. Creepypasta reads it or just the vibe I get but I picture Jerry as Patrick Warburton's Krunk (sp?) from the Emperor's New Groove. If your a fan of Tales from the Gas Station, you'll definitely need to add this book to your library. -
This was utterly glorious!
All the nutty, ridiculous weirdness I expect from The Gas Station, mixed in with a hellish Scooby Doo romp.
The moment I realised Jerry was involved I purchased.
This was on audiobook and I love MrCreepyPasta's narration. I know he's not everyone's cuppa and some comment that his narration is a little off. Actually, I agree with that, but for me this is part of what makes it so enjoyable.
Probably my favourite Gas Station tale so far. -
Man this was a great short story and narration with a twist.....I hope that tales vol4 becomes an audio book. This really helped me with the commute to and from the hospital. I'll miss Jack Jerry and all the freaks at the gas station.....

Oh, Jack!
Well, I've been here before. Lighthearted, nonsensical, silly fun. I think I'm back with friends who grew some really good funny stuff. Not serious. -

In this fantastic read, we get a very action/thriller/horror/comedy that we all know and love from the amazing author, Jack Townsend.
Our beloved insomniac main character, Jack, has been forced to take a road trip with his best friend, Jerry (ex-cult follower). The two have mostly enjoyed themselves for most of their travels until the car suddenly dies near a cliched, old-looking house on a hill. Now from here on out, horror, dark secrets, and lots of laugh-out-loud moments ensue as Jack tries to fight his way out of this diabolically crazy tale--that is not from the Gas Station.
Jack Townsend has delivered an incredible story that once again, provokes all the emotions in just 12 chapters. The characters were creative, well written, and kept me engaged throughout the entire novella (even the despicably evil characters). Usage of descriptive words and witty dialogue helped move the story smoothly from scene to scene, making the story easy to consume even on audible. I had the best time listening to this novel as a drove to and from work, it kept me hanging on until the last word.
Overall, if you're looking for a book to help put some horror and laughs into the beginning of the October season, look no further than Bedside Manor by Jack Townsend. (Is there anyway to give this book 10 stars and not five???? -
I was hoping it would be similar to
Tales from the Gas Station, turned out it is set in that universe. A fun short, hopefully the author is hard at work on Gas Station Vol 4.
I've said it before, but the author owes royalties to David Wong for the Jerry/John character. Jerry had a couple one-liners that got me laughing aloud.
Great narration, but for the love of God stop with sound effects. Your crackling fire just sounds like I've got bad audio. -
A tales from the gas station side quest
Jack and Jerry are on a side quest in this story and I’m totally here for it. It was hard to put down, pretty hilarious. It’s a wild ride though, which I feel is a stable for this universe.
Although, I think people who haven’t read the tales from the gas station might need a note that it belongs in a larger universe in order for this book and the characters to make sense.
For me, the story made total sense with in the frame of the universe. From the characters, the story lines, the twists and turns. Much appreciated. -
If you’ve read any of the Tales from the Gas Station books, you will want to read Bedside Manor. Jack and Jerry go on a vacation and end up at Bedside Manor. The events that unfold are characteristic of the TFTGS series, but different enough to keep you engaged.
And if you haven’t read the Gas Station books, this is a stand alone so you can still enjoy it. But, I highly suggest reading them because they are so much fun. -
What the fuck just happened 😭 That ending is so ?? Its very sci-fi which is definitely not my favourite. But I did very much like the first 80% of the book. It felt like it dragged on a bit when Jack was trying to break out of the simulation or whatever. But it was still pretty entertaining. I for sure enjoyed Tales From The Gas Station more, but I love Jack and Jerry so any story/book with them as main characters, I will like.
-
The two main characters from the Gas Station books go on a road trip and end up in a murder mystery game at a haunted manor. A little more complicated and confusing than that but it didn’t matter, I still loved it.
-
I love this author and this book! The characters are so quirky, relatable and memorable. The narration on the audio version is excellent. I do not ever want to miss a Jack Townsend book.
***** FIVE STARS ***** -
One of my favorite series and group of characters ever. One of the few authors who makes me laugh out loud as I read. Some great Jerry one liners in this one. I will buy as many books as Jack Townsend can out out. Absolutely loved it and a great way to start off the new reading year!

I love all the tales from the gas station books so this side story was a great quick read. New surroundings outside the familiar has station but with my favorite characters. I nice little appetizer before vol 4 comes out.
